  • Ford's first-ever Lightning all-electric full-size pickup has been grabbing plenty of headlines so we grabbed the keys to a loaded Lariat edition to see if it lived up to the hype.
The Lighting comes standard with two electric motors, all-wheel-drive, and 775 pound-feet of torque. Models with the base, standard-range 98 kWh battery have 452 horsepower and 230 miles of range.
The version we tested had the optional Long-Range battery (131 kWh), which offers 580 horsepower, 320 miles of range, and a 0-60 time of a scant four seconds flat! But we didn't always see that kind of range in our testing...so what can you expect in real-world driving? Check out the full video to find out.
Our tester -- which stickered for over $80,000 -- came chock full of impressive tech and luxurious goodies. These included Ford BlueCruise hands-free driving system, a 15-inch infotainment screen in portrait mode with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leather seats that were heated and cooled up front and heated in the rear, a panoramic moonroof, an eight-speaker audio system, a power-operated tailgate, and on-board generator with more than enough plugs to charge the entire campsite.
So will all of this be enough to top the Rivian R1T plus upcoming rivals like the Chevy Silverado EV, the Ram 1500 REV, and the Tesla Cybertruck? Check out our full video to find out.

I have a Lightning platinum, it's the absolute best f150 that I've ever owned. Does everything any of my previous F150's would do only a lot cheaper to operate. Tows and hauls everything I need it to do. Rides like a luxury car, drives like a regular F150 only it has the get up & go like a race car. 0 to 60 in just over 4 seconds, unbelievable for nearly a 7000 lb vehicle.

I love the way it looks. However, the cost, not so much.

Weird they put the good looking screen on cheaper models and the ugliest radio screen of alltime on the pricey ones

So if no range on Highway and no range if you are pulling 4k pounds why get this?

Drive it, press accelerator. You will know why. It's a range rover suspension. Extremely nice vehicle especially lariat ER.

I like the look and provided a dealership prices it towards the lower end, I'd be interested in one

Love my Lariat, it’s the most quiet vehicle I’ve ever owned and one of the most comfortable to drive, not to mention it’ll burn rubber at 30mph😊

I just hope that anyone who purchases this vehicle has a lithium fire extinguisher on it and or where they keep it

Gas vehicles have a higher rate of starting on fire than the Lightning. It was ONE defective unit.

So the row of Ford EVs that burned up in a Ford distribution yard was caused by what? They were all parked when one caught fire!

    • @Josh-179

@@oldguysrock2170 , Yes, ONE defective unit caught fire and burned two surrounding trucks. Ford has built around 30,000 with no battery problems.

Not a great test, drove it like a car, not for what a truck is meant for.

So Ford says the Lightning can power up your house! For how long? I live 😅n Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I have yet to see a Lightning up here. With 5-6 months of winter, I doubt EVs can be efficient for everyday use and reliability. I have seen one Tesla charging at Meijer, but that is it.

I hope it doesn’t freeze up the screen like my f150 xlt gas version, the screen gets hot, temp inside is warm, not using ac,
Ford put cooling plumbing for the screen for all f150

In terms of design the delta between the Ram and Rev is the same as that between the F-150 and the Lightning.

Though ram and Chevy will start at over 100k though lighting could be there by the time they release 😂

@@EpicConspiracy , no they will start similarly as the Lightning Pro. Original starting price for Silverado EV WT was going to be $40K before these last 2 years of inflation. GM will be forced to raise it like Ford.
