Drove F250 diesels for 10+ years, great trucks but never towed anything, just loved the reliability and torque. Electric motors beat any gas or diesel powered vehicle for instantaneous torque. Have loved every minute of driving my F150, there is no stigma of owning a Lightning,. It’s definitely not a vehicle for anybody who regularly tows more the 100 miles regularly, but that’s a very small percentage of ICE pickup truck owners. As a daily driver and a work site utility vehicle it’s first class, hands down beats any ICE pickup.
Indeed. Well said.
Could not agree more. I don't have the same experience with bigger diesels, but it beats the pants off the frontier I replaced with the extended range lightning. I tow my 25' pontoon boat about 10 miles to the lake with no issues. I've had numerous people stop and ask me about it and I tell them the same thing. It will do anything you want it to do, except tow for distance. If you do that regularly, stay away. Otherwise, it's an amazing option.
Ford’s ‘Crew Cabs’ are so popular because it’s like a SUV with a pickup bed.
True story
I thought the 2024 models were getting a heat pump to help with efficiency. Is that not the case?
Yes, that’s correct. 24’s do get a heat pump.
I own an F-150 Lightning and i love it! For my needs it’s great! My only complaint with it is I wish it was 6 inches shorter to make fitting it into my garage easier. That length is why I’m trying it in on a Ford Ranger Lightning EV as soon as Ford releases it.
Waiting for the Ford Expedition Thunder! Lol
I’d buy one! Lol
My train of thought is they brought back the lightning name for this truck, and Ford did test out an Expedition Thunder but it never came into fruition. So they have that nameplate collecting dust.
Good review 👍
Who ever brings out a midsize EV truck and has good range I'll get it.
Cheers
Thanks for watching.
The rivian is a midsize if you’ve ever seen it. Way overpriced as well
@@livingaboard
Yes, should have stated reasonably priced 🤣
Great review
Thank you
I know the pad on the door could work in some areas in Texas.....but here in Canada we get freezing rain ...... and hail.....
Hail would be a nightmare for the aluminum body work on this.
I have seen the lighting in person....slight changes from the regular truck {gasoline} to zap.....lol....
👍🏼⚡️
It’s the price of purchase if they were the same as gas powered trucks people would buy.
Ford was (and might still be) offering incentives to make them cheaper than a comparable hybrid model.
Is your cost per mileage calculation including: surge pricing at charging stations, total depreciation when the battery is toasted at 1XX,XXX miles, and rental cost for a uhaul pickup when you need to tow in the cold weather for more than 50 miles at a time? This is a great truck for soccer dad's LARPing but like all EVs once the novelty wears off it gets long in the tooth real quickly.
🙄
Clearly your mind is already made up. Do you tow with your family car? No.
I mention towing. If that’s what you want to do, don’t buy the Lightning. If you want it for a roomy family vehicle that has plenty of space for all your stuff, is fast and fun to drive, and cost less per mile to drive than most vehicles on the road, then look at the Lightning.
So many false and ignorant statements in one troll comment! Do you spend all of your time avoiding any exposure to objective information, or only slurp what the hater content providers serve up for you?
The 2024 Lightning has a heat pump.
Thanks!
I think we need to give Ford more credit because they did an incredible job yes the Cyber truck is unique but it fell short and now that you can charge at a Tesla charging station gives you more options in regards range also there are some great deals on the trucks right now because of the amount of inventory they have
It really is a good vehicle.
Not too mention Ford for their truck on the road while Tesla was still promising much more than the eventually delivered.
A truck should be a truck first and foremost. Lighting did very well in this area.
@@filoniz My sentiment exactly.
Just got my wife a 23 platinum for $22k off MSRP. Great daily commuter car for her, we have a lot of dirt roads around here that turn to mud/ice. Her old Subaru was getting a little small for a family of 4 and there just aren’t many practical large EVs right now. The concern with rivian is will they be around in a decade, and no way I’m getting caught dead in a cyber truck. Maybe this will become my daily in a few years when a decent full size SUV comes out for her and my ICE F150 can be relegated to farm/towing duty.
Sounds like the perfect vehicle for y’all.
Hello from Texas - can you share where you got that deal? That would be worth the drive. Many thanks!
Follow up - did that include $7500 EV rebate?
@@ronwinn879 mo, our income is too high for the rebate
@@christopherhughes7970 many thanks! I believe most of the Platinums are above the $80K MSRP.
I’d still be interested in the dealership. I’ll call them.
@ 29:15 4 cents a mile is equivalent to $.80 a gallon for gas for a 3.5L F-150 which gets on average 20 miles per gallon (gas at $3.35 a gallon).
Quite a savings
Thanks for the comprehensive review! $/mile is good info.
I know, right?!?
And Ford is currently offering $15,000 off through incentives, making it better priced than a gas equivalent.
Looking forward to some deprecation before I take the plunge. Certainly the larger battery would be worthwhile for the occasional Sunday drives.
Tesla haters are soooo dumb 😂
😉
I heard ford is changing the battery type sometime in 2024.
