I've been doing the YWLT for a year now and my neck no longer hurts. I do a variation: I hold each position for a count of 30, 3 times a week. After a year of doing this, my upper back and chest are much stronger and my neck pain is gone because my posture is straight and I stand up straight. It's an amazing change that makes feel much better about myself and more confident about how I look at 70. It has led to many related adjustments. When I look down, for example when cooking, I keep my cervical spine straight and bend my head. This exercise has been life-changing and for that, I am so grateful.

Okay so I found this video like 2 or so months ago. I did all this regularly plus I straightened myself up whenever I felt like I was slouching. I did this every night before sleeping(takes less than 5 minutes) and I haven't been that frequent BUT these have made a visible difference in me, especially with my shoulder shape. My shoulders look square not round and there's some collar bone visible as well. And let me tell you, I'm not a skinny girl. Seeing collar bones and being slightly on the heavy side is so amazing. For anyone just starting their journey, IT WORKS! Please don't give up. With daily effort, your posture can literally become unrecognizable. It's possible and SO worth it!
Focus on all 3; stretching, behavior, and strength (in that order). If you have more than one area of your spine to address, make sure to work your way from feet to head. And if you have forward head posture, you can't really fix it without addressing your pelvis and spine first.
    Good luck! =)

@@vishnus3099 im sorry you got bullied man, some people are human garbage.. but it seems like it hurt your confidence alot, which is normal, and your mental state effects your posture. It wont go away by doing these exercises shown. You need a balanced workout, where you train all your muscles, but first start with mobility routines, and going for a walk everday, then once your body loosens up, start building strength. Work on your confidence by having those goals everyday, and also other goals like studying, and your confidence/body will improve alot

One of the things I do for these things.
I realize like you said, subconsciously we all tend to lean forward with many, things we do. In doing so, we lean forward with our neck, instead of just tilting the head up and down from a neutral position.
The same is also true with the rest of the body, our shoulders and upper back. This can and does even carry down to our lower back, from leaning forward at the waist.
So, one simple exercise for everything in one.
Just take a moment now and then to think about if your back is up against the balc of our seat. Many times we can stop and think of this while driving. We will realize our bwck is actually moved forward from the back of our seat. Where the seat is designed for us to lean back in. Not only lean back but to also be in good neutral position.
So. Lean back as the waist. Then the upper torso, with our shoulders going back into our seat amd against your seat. And finally pur head back into the head rest.
Yiu willfind as crazy as it sounds that this position the higher we move up our body will feel very awkward. You will most likely stop and think how crazy is that? The sitting position that is supose to be the most natural and comfortable, actually feel the most unnatural and uncomfortable. The more these are difficult for you, the more common and off mutual you body has become over time. So, we all need to work on making this the most common and comfortable position by focusing on doing it first a little, from time to time while driving,,at a stop light, stop sign or when ever you can make a game of taking a moment to stop and thin about thos, amd do this little test to see how well your body is in burial position it is also an exercise each time we consciously take the time to check ourself, and our subconscious bad posture/sitting position. In a sence we are reprogramming our mind and body. The more we do so, the better we are able to created a good habit which becomes more frequent than our bad habit of posture.
What is everyone's else thoughts on this and other ways?
Also some times I will just put my back up against a wall and do the same thing. Just testing amd seeing how my posturechabits may be from time to time. I'd you are someplace other than home you may use this time to also rest up against a wall while waiting for whatever you may be there for.
Something, I may even lay on the ground, inside or outside, and see just how natural of a feel it may be to lay flat on the ground from lower belch, upper back and balc of head. Creating a strait line with my whole spine, being in a neutral position.

This is the best video addressing head, neck and shoulder posture I've come across. I've been doing this every chance I get for a week now, and no longer lean forward, but auto focus on my upper body posture.
I can hear a click in the back of my neck every time I go back into an upright position, and the same happened today when I did the 'W' for my shoulders. It almost felt like a knot and been unlocked. There's less tension, and my lymph system has improved too, so thank you for this 👍🏼

These are fantastic exercises that I’m excited to get started with. I definitely suffer from severe head forward / rounded shoulders. This was the result of being afflicted with Ankylosing Spondylitis in my early teens that went undiagnosed for almost 15 years. There weren’t many computer screens and certainly not cell phones back then so this condition (head forward) can be caused by other factors.
Thanks for this, I’m very much hoping it can help me get somewhat back to a normal posture.

So with regular practice the good posture should become more of the norm. I did find that after the exercises, doing some gentle forward bends helped so stretch out the back muscles after being worked. Thanks so much.

Oh, thank you, thank you. About 2 years ago, I was diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis, vertebral deterioration, and calcium deposits mostly centered C2 - C5. I was showing significant forward head posture and was experiencing reduced range of motion (particularly "looking over my shoulder" and looking upwards) and feeling sharp pain during head movement. My orthopedist suggested the MacKenzie Method book and recommended that I follow those exercises. I found them to be helpful but it always seemed that they weren't quite enough for my condition - like it was treating the symptoms but not the cause. I did experience an improved range of motion and reduction of pain but it never felt as if my underlying problem was getting better.
Having done these exercises a few times a day for three days my posture is much more aligned, my range of motion in my neck in all directions is improved, and both resting discomfort and pain at the limit of motion has been greatly reduced. It feels as if my head has become 8 pounds lighter!
I'm going to continue these exercises with great confidence that they will continue to make my neck, head, and spine feel better.
