    My thoughts on it is if you already own a DX09 you have an option to buy the 2.0 version.
    For someone who's an 89 Batman fan and don't own the DX09, this is a great opportunity to own one.

    The texturing doesn't really bother me that much, though I think it might be a production flaw they are just trying to push through. The 2.0 is brilliant.......but how could they screw up the likeness in the faceplate when they already had it???

    Do really prefer my DX09.
    2.0 offers really good improvements but it unfortunately doesn't look LIKE Michael KEATON's Batman as DX09 does.
    Will keep them both but 2.0 will go inside my JAZZINC BATMOBILE 😅

      Sometimes the original artists are either better at their job, or they struck gold with their first effort. Recency doesn't always guarantee superiority. While there have been advances with the paint apps, material quality, better bodies... when it comes to the portrait, it's the talent of the artist, and the time/money Hot Toys assign to the project which matters the most. The recent Batman Begins 2.0 was clearly given little priority, zero, whereas this - along with the TDKR Catwoman 2.0 - is just above midway on the scale. Bane 2.0 and the 2.0 armoured Batman are at the high-end.

    Hey, really dig your username. The direct reference to the movie Mr. Mom is a nice serendipitous thing with this being a Keaton video. I'm a dad to a daughter too. She unfortunately no longer lives here, but whenever she'd come over and see my collection, it's like seeing it all for the first time again. Like that sense of awe and wonder regarding how much crap I have.
    Been a while since she's been to the house, so I'm sure with her being 9 now, she wouldn't be as impressed lol. It's a 9 goin' on 18 kinda thing. At least she still gets excited when I pick her up actual toys. You know, something other than Roblox "Robux" (in-game currency that costs actual money).

There are no enough reasons to spend like 350-400 dollars more. New figure looks very cool with its inaccuracy also, though. I think InArt may try to make this figure also in some point. Thank you so much for putting out this top-notch video! When I got my 'about to ship' notification last week, I started watching reviews, and everyone was slamming the figure. Sent me in a tizzy with debating on canceling it. Very glad I didn't with coming across your extremely in-depth and rational viewpoints review. Even though I was gonna go with the bloody face anyways, it's nice to know it captures the likeness the best. The heavy texturing route is very bizarre, but it still captures the essence of that early design suite.
    Now I'm just debating on rather or not to order another Jaxon cape. I have the non-wired one for my Returns Bats, so perhaps I'll get the wired one. This stock one is absolutely an upgrade over the original, but it does look a little short. Maybe I'll just save some money and use the more leathery looking stock Returns cape.

    You knocked this one out of the park Ryan! So I’m going to put my conspiracy hat on for a min. I also remember Hot toys touting the shorter “more accurate “ Keaton body but I don’t think that is it at all, I think they were gonna do a 2.0 anyway might as well make it scale better with the pre-existing batmobile that they had no intentions of re-engineering. I don’t know if you were gonna put the 2.0 inside the Batmobile but I would love to know if he fits better than the DX09…

    Excellent job, and a very useful reference point. The side profile breakdown @10:15 illustrates your point to a T, both figures have clear flaws when it comes to accuracy. The aspect which captures my attention the most is the depth of the eyes. If you measure the gap from the eyes to the bridge, you can see that the 2.0's are too far forward. The real-life photo shows Keaton's eyes being seated almost 50% more further back.

  • @dispassionateobserver

    Your comparison video seems to confirm what a lot of us saw in the new official pics. But not only do we have a bad likeness and an inaccurate texture on the suit, but the figure is thicker as well. Michael Keaton is a very small guy. There is no reason to make the body thicker and wider. I love that they gave us a version 2.0 of the 1989 Batman. It has a few slight improvements over the DX09, but the new figure fails where it counts. The DX09, while not perfect, looks much more like the Michael Keaton Batman we saw on screen. I hate saying it. I hate making negative comments. I've been counting the days for like 2 years for this figure to come out. I would love to come on here and rave about how amazing this figure is. I can't do that. It simply isn't true.

    • @1515cci
      @1515cci 4 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, this figure, particularly the face, the over-textured body looks no way as close to Keaton's face and costume, respectively. DX09 is far better imho.
      I recall first seeing the 2.0 and my gaze immediately zoomed in on the body because the texture was so off from what is seen in the movie. It could be argued that the 2.0 faceplates look more like an older Keaton as opposed to his more youthful look in the 89 Batman movie and what I believe is faithfully reflected in the DX09 faceplates.

      I am fine with his likeness! Almost no toy company making any accurate figures at all....even when you go into high-class collectibles...look at prime one or other Statue companies...and why is it...because the Money flow would stop if they considering a fully accurate sculpt...so all of these So called collectible companies would go bankrupt😂😂😂 they can't affort a accurate one because everyone would buy it and would be good with it so no need to put out more! That's their game...another example is the "new Jungle Hunter Predator" he literally a shite copy of the Classic Predator...HT was so lazy...they didn't even change the Accessoires nor the sculpt or body...putting only a sign on it new Jungle Hunter and most of the fanbase is pissed about it...rightfully so...calling themselfs a highend collectible only to change minor shite...this not working in long runs! And also how many shite ironmans we got??? They literally milking us...!!!! Anyways i wish you a nice weekend! That's only My Opinion!

    After finally receiving this figure. The textured suit isnt a problem at all, looks good in person. The biggest issue are the cheeks on the cowl. They are not as pointed/sharp like the DX09 and in the movie. The 2.0 cheeks are too curved and rounded, make his face look too narrow and throws off the Keaton likeness.

    Teeny tiny critique: the prop store photo of the “screen used” belt you showed is not screen used. The suit itself is screen used, but the belt is a replica with an inaccurate color. They state themselves that it is a replica.

    • @ron5545
      @ron5545 4 месяца назад +1

      I noticed that as well in the previous video and suspected the eyes needed to be more deep set. If you look at the comparison at 9:49, you'll see how far the nose and brows jut out of the real-life cowl vs the two figures' cowls. The angle is not perfect as you can see by the ears on Keaton's cowl that he is turned slightly to the right, but you get the idea. While we're on the subject, notice Keaton's chin & jaw structure is too recessed on both figures.

    • @dangiambrone7350
      @dangiambrone7350 4 месяца назад

      The protruding eyes is my main beef with this figure. They also look too wide open, as if he's sat on something nasty. The DX09 has a heavier looking brow which makes the eyes look deeper set and more intimidating. And while the eyes look more realistic on the 2.0, Hot Toys really messed up on the colour of them, making them a brilliant blue when Keaton's eyes are a striking blue-gray.

    • @ExMachina83
      @ExMachina83 4 месяца назад

      It’s a tough call because both are slightly off. I agree with the eyes, but if you set them further in, it messes with the side profile like the 09. I’ve even seen statues for this guy that are slightly off in terms of likeness 😂 Both are really nice pieces in their own ways though.

      I just watched this movie again last night with this figure in mind. It's clearly smooth. The best scene to see it too is after the art museum scene in the alley, where he gets shot. When he gets shot and falls to the ground, the thugs inspect him and see he's wearing (smooth) armor. I mean, there are many other scenes showing it off this way. Not sure why HTs would choose a rare scene to represent the character like this 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

  • @Chalor.
    @Chalor. 4 месяца назад +1

    I can handle the belt being the wrong colour, excess suit texturing, upper lip area on the face plates are too much; but the thing that gets me the most are the pecs. They should be a lot more visible, but HT made them even less so with the emblem coming down right at the bottom of 'em. Like the new ones torso was designed to be more barrel chested, instead of the pecs resting much lower on the body.
    Such odd decisions that we'll never know exactly why they chose to not be as movie accurate as a could've. My only theory is they had a far more accurate version, but WB shot it down. It's definitely not uncommon for the license holders to opt for a more inaccurate look...for whatever illogical reasons.

    One more spam comment before I dip out: Just wanted to mention that I always thought the original '89 head had a pretty small face. Everything just looks a little too squished in...so a big forehead/cranium area, a Robin Williams amount of space between the nose and upper lip; that sort of thing.
    Definitely pros and cons to each, and since (for reasons unknown - maybe the aforementioned thought on the head 🤷🏼‍♂️) I passed on the original, I'm glad I now have an '89 Bats representation in my collection. I thought havin' the Returns version would be enough, but _naaaah._

    What's so bizarre is that with all the other reviews I've seen (like Justin's Collection), the 2.0 is taller; something I'm definitely not a fan of. But now watching your review, it's the exact opposite with the new one being a little shorter. So confused on what's going on here lol. Did they end up with taller bodied versions, or you with a shorter one? It doesn't look like it's to do with angle/perspective trickery, so I'm really bewildered with the 2.0 height variation.

Also, it would seem is not the collecting community who is trying to retain value but that the whole market is actually not retaining but increasing the value. Don't bash something cause you didn't get it. Yeah, the new one is very cool, but everyone seems to agree the dx09 looks better, even ppl who have none.

    What reveals EVERYTHING for me is your side by side comparison of all the cowls. You focus on the shape of the cowl but what stands out for me is how close the 2.0's eyes are to the nose. The DX-09 eyes are set WAY BACK from the nose as is the OFFICIAL Keaton cowl pic you used. This for me reveals why the 2.0 inaccuracy is DAMNING cos Keaton's eyes are mostly in the shadow of the cowl in the film due to their deep setting & this is not portrayed in the new 2.0. COWL CASE FINALLY CLOSED.

  • @fairamano4657
    @fairamano4657 Месяц назад

    I cancelled 2.0, and after seeing so many videos on the subject... I don't regret it one bit. I actually found a sealed DX09 for sale, and got that instead.
    The 2.0 doesn't look like Keaton to me. The figure reminds me more of a cosplayer I know who lives in town. I've seen people say, "the cowl is good, just buy this custom plate!"
    Tbh, if Im dropping 200-300 for a figure, I'd rather not feel obligated to buy custom pieces to like a figure. The DX09 looks amazing, and the only issue I have is the crappy cape. But that issue is minor, because the main attraction is the head.
    My observations:
    It's not only the mouth, but also the eyes, and eye holes on the mask. The 2.0 is much more curved, while 1.0 has a harsher curve. Not to mention 2.0 looks like he's high, O_O.
    1.0's eyes are more sunken in and dont look O_O.

  • @gorytechno

    The more I see of the details of the comparisons the more I reaffirm my thought that the DX 09 has the best mold of the face, it captured the essence of Keaton's lips and eyes better... it's a shame that the latest version instead of improving the mold makes it worse...
    I don't care about the other aspects of the body or the cape... the most important part that a figure has to have is the detail and realism of the face, it's that simple and if you don't understand it or you settle for the second version that's your business, the rest of us are more demanding.
    Anyway, the video is quite useful to see the obvious... MANY differences.

      I’d argue neither representation is 100% accurate. The DX 09 looks great from the nose down, but the face as a whole looks a bit misshapen, and the eyes a bit too much to the center. There’s enough to like about either one and if you own the original, then you don’t have to worry about the value plummeting. If you’ve never had the opportunity to own the original, well then, here’s 2.0.

While the mouth piece on the DX09 might appear be more accurate I have to wonder if it's true or because it's more of a caricature of Keaton being more pronounced. I kind of feel it might be the latter. I think the new mask looks better IMO. The DX09 look fantastic but again, it looks more pronounced like a caricature than what I think it actually looked like on screen. Just my thoughts but I would be happy to own either.

    Can some '89 Batman expert kindly explain to me how this gold or copper utility belt was screen used???
    I just simply don't believe it... Now I understand lighting & editing on film but there's no way that gold belt could look as yellow as it did on film no matter what editing was done. Ever since this 'so-called' screen used gold utility belt prop was made known, it has now infiltrated into the world of toys & statues with Prime 1 using gold as the color of their belt for the first time I can recall in toy form. The fact is, if the gold belt is in fact screen used then it looks nothing like what we saw on film & therefore does not look accurate. The gold belt stands out like a sore thumb on the Prime 1 statue & I'm sure if Hot Toys made their belt gold then the majority of fans would be very unhappy.

    • @steve-o-reno
      @steve-o-reno 4 месяца назад +2

      I'm not an expert or anything, but if I had to take a guess as to why they used that copper belt would be for when he's in the shadows. My guess is they don't want people seeing a bright yellow belt, so they used a darker color to still be able to see the belt without taking away from a dark scene 🤷‍♂️
      Edit: you can see the copper belt was used throughout the whole bell tower scene at the end of the movie 👍🏻

It's not natural position of Keaton's eye under the cowl. The likeness on both would be even better if holes for the eyes are a bit smaller. However 2.0 cowl is more movie accurate.

Front 2.0 looks like Keaton but from side not. Lips on 2.0 OK! Bat emblem 2.0 well done. The side look is so wrong on the top of the lip. You don't notice it from the front. Like to take and change belt color on both of mine to the more gold looking. The texture is too much on the 2.0. The DX is more spot on. The real cape had a more bat wing texture had like what a bat looks like. Like to have seen a seamless cape on this and the Robert Pattenson figures.
