honestly for online classes you can survive even with just a phone, lots of my schoolmates uses their phones for their projects and class (unless you will use your device for note taking you should use an ipad instead), depends on your needs really although I now use both my phone and computer
I am in university for teaching and use an iPad Air. It’s really good and I can easily annotate my notes and textbooks as you can download them as a pdf which is super helpful! Goodnotes is an app I recommend for note taking as it is super useful and if you have an open book exam it’s super easy to access your notes. I’m lucky as my program doesn’t have any heavy software that we use, so an iPad is ideal. I do know if you are going into something like computer science an iPad wouldn’t be able to replace a laptop as you won’t be able to access many softwares
It’s a no for me. I’ve lost several files last semester and multitasking sucks. It was good for a while but I ended up switching back to MacBook. I still use my iPad for note taking and easy tasks though so I would say for anyone who can get both, get them.

As a Fine Arts student who needs to type her research while doing her installations, my 12.9 bundle of a 1TB, Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard does the job. It wasn’t just easy to carry (despite being heavier than a 13 inch Mac Pro my mates have) and that I’d also do a lot of digital art, but also the lacking of very laptop stuff keeps me working day and night. Like hardcore games and several Adobe features, they are the culprit to my failed productivity. Although I am very tech nerdy than most Fine Art students, I like it more when my life is well balanced.

Please for gods sake get a laptop instead. I have both and my iPad Pro cannot do half the school tasks needed. And don’t get a Mac if you’re in college. A lot of the college programs don’t work on there ( especially if you’re online). A lot of my classmates failed because of that
Agree. I'm no longer in school but I know kids who are, and they say that their school tried the ipad route, but it didn't work and they're all back to laptops. Lots of programs (esp with online learning becoming the norm) didn't work properly. If you have the $$ to have both then yes an ipad is good for when you're mobile, but for most people a laptop will just be better.
Yes, I agree you should definitely consider what kinds of software your courses will require. For me, I've found the iPad + MacBook combo works best. The MacBook can use all the software that isn't available on the iPad and the iPad is best for notetaking and other simple assignments.

One of the main benefits (imo) are Zoom, Facetime and any type of video conferencing overall. You just can't get anything of good communication quality out of a laptop. If you're sitting on the bed, outside, at your friends etc with your Ipad. You can take a video or picture, boom just like that without having to have your phone on you. And social media on a laptop? Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter and so on, using a laptop? Get real. Also the overall ecosystem on an Ipad just blows away anything wiindows based. Everything transfers from one to another seamlessly, whether it's a macbook, phone, or even an Apple Watch (which has the most limitations) but it still great for photos, phone calls, texts and so on. You can't do any of these things with a laptop. The only thing I every use my PC's for is downloading (torrents, music) shhh, and having a decent size screen to watch movies on. That's it. Period. The webcams are (in general) awful, zoom is horrid if used on one, yes you can store all of your digital pictures, music and movies from it, but other than that. Not much else. Unless you're a hardcore PC gamer, which I'm not. I have a Series X and PS5 for that. Laptops also don't last (normally) any longer than 3 to 5 years. Mine is on it's last leg after almost 9 long years. Where as Ipads last up to 10 years, and yes I've seen many that are still going strong. Then again I have another laptop that's decent, and a gaming Desktop that I rarely use. So I have plenty of PC's. But honestly I use my Iphone more than anything. But love the Ipad as well. Sorry for the novel, but that's about all you can say about both. I would mention burning discs, but honestly, ? Well you get the picture.

@@pout4990 I was clouded by the same dilemma as you do a few weeks ago. The fact is, Ipad is great for note taking. But that's pretty much it. Even though the hardware is top notch, the IpadOS (even the upcoming version 16) sucks. You will still be using an app store to download apps which as a student is a thumbs down because if you are a student of science/engineering/business management you know you'll need software which are obviously available on MacOS and Windows but not for IpadOS. So unless you are planning to use a pc and ipad for notetaking you are stuck with a high performance touch screen good for pretty much nothing. My suggestion would be go for 2 in 1 laptops. Take hp's spectre x360. You have a full fledge laptop under 1.3kg which has a 360 foldable screen to take notes too.

Damn ur rich.. it’s actually the best option if you can afford. You can easily download books on iPad and make quick notes and so there’s no need to buy bulky textbooks that are usually required for a major like computer science. Note taking is extremely easy on an iPad. I would definitely do this if I had the money🥲🥲

Think abt the future too, if ur choosing a major which will require programming, it’s better to buy a laptop. A touchscreen laptop too. But if only for note taking, watching videos, and reading books, iPad is a great choice
I use my ipad 12 pro with a logitech case+keyboard.'I honestly type lost my stuff on it because my imac is very slow with multiple tabs. However, i dont have a laptop to compare but for 3 semesters its been more than enough. Google docs, goodnotes, canvas, kindle books, libby, quizlet, japanese learning apps, dropbox, google drive, etc. I think it depends on what major you are/what classes you are going to take. If you need programs for programming classes or other software note available on ipad- you'll of course need a laptop. Otherwise, an ipad + keyboard case attachment will suffice. For longterm- i suggest getting a lot of storage and utilizing drop box + google drive, and syncing goodnotes to icloud to save everything. My ipad had water damage and didnt work but thankfully it was within warranty and got a free replacement-- and EVERYTHING WAS SAVED/SYNCED ON IT! so definitely do NOT forget to turn on icloud saving.

I ended up going with MacBook Pro it was half off at Best Buy because it was under the open box clearance sale it apparently was missing it’s charger but when I had the worker open it so I can check it out everything was there not a scratch on it brand new so I got really lucky and got the newer generation MacBook Pro so if u ever want a new laptop I suggest checking Best Buy’s open box section!

My high school issued me a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, which is a Windows laptop. Im doing alot of research on tablets rn and so far it seems that tablets (ipads) are more of taking notes and helping you get work done with multitasking. Now there is always awesome apps on the store to help with video editing or design graphics of course paying for or free. The ipad is like a note book you bring to class you can pop out and write down or edit things quick and easy. Laptop is more like bringing your desktop with you thats a bigger somewhat heavy. But useful for typing fast. Idk say ipads are worth it for portability and getting work done. Laptops are only when you can type fast or need more power for programs or final projects. Good luck 👍🏽

Ive had an iPad for 5 years i use it to play, draw, take notes ( with hand), and online school and watch movies and Netflix, and video edit, and its still alive so yes and if ur not gonna use it much its perfect for u if mine lasted for years now, and its the iPad air 2 ,the iPad 4 is better and might last longer
Ipad air 4- convenient, handy, can multi task tabs, nice in taking notes, smooth on gaming 🤩, iphone like camera (high resolution camera) Laptop- better on typing documents, convenient in spreadsheet, makes you more productive in my opinion

It depends on what you use your laptop for exactly, but for a lot of students and professionals, we see the iPad pro as a great alternative to a laptop!
It's debatable indeed. One example that comes to mind is video editing. Although some editors have made their way to the appstore, Final Cut Pro for example hasn't yet.

If the only problem with your laptop is the camera I think you'll not regret buying an Ipad considering the quality of its camera plus the extra things you can do with an Ipad like taking digital notes:)

Even though it's 3 hours I'd still recommend a laptop, it can do more than a iPad can, and typically more cheaper. 2 in 1s can double as tablets if you want them.

Think abt the future too, if ur choosing a major which will require programming, it’s better to buy a laptop. A touchscreen laptop too. But if only for note taking, watching videos, and reading books, iPad is a great choice
I use my ipad 12 pro with a logitech case+keyboard.'I honestly type lost my stuff on it because my imac is very slow with multiple tabs. However, i dont have a laptop to compare but for 3 semesters its been more than enough. Google docs, goodnotes, canvas, kindle books, libby, quizlet, japanese learning apps, dropbox, google drive, etc. I think it depends on what major you are/what classes you are going to take. If you need programs for programming classes or other software note available on ipad- you'll of course need a laptop. Otherwise, an ipad + keyboard case attachment will suffice. For longterm- i suggest getting a lot of storage and utilizing drop box + google drive, and syncing goodnotes to icloud to save everything. My ipad had water damage and didnt work but thankfully it was within warranty and got a free replacement-- and EVERYTHING WAS SAVED/SYNCED ON IT! so definitely do NOT forget to turn on icloud saving.

I ended up going with MacBook Pro it was half off at Best Buy because it was under the open box clearance sale it apparently was missing it’s charger but when I had the worker open it so I can check it out everything was there not a scratch on it brand new so I got really lucky and got the newer generation MacBook Pro so if u ever want a new laptop I suggest checking Best Buy’s open box section!

My high school issued me a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, which is a Windows laptop. Im doing alot of research on tablets rn and so far it seems that tablets (ipads) are more of taking notes and helping you get work done with multitasking. Now there is always awesome apps on the store to help with video editing or design graphics of course paying for or free. The ipad is like a note book you bring to class you can pop out and write down or edit things quick and easy. Laptop is more like bringing your desktop with you thats a bigger somewhat heavy. But useful for typing fast. Idk say ipads are worth it for portability and getting work done. Laptops are only when you can type fast or need more power for programs or final projects. Good luck 👍🏽

5 years. Because apple support their product for 5 years so you can still receive update and makes your iPad much more optimize.

Ipad air 4- convenient, handy, can multi task tabs, nice in taking notes, smooth on gaming 🤩, iphone like camera (high resolution camera)
Laptop- better on typing documents, convenient in spreadsheet, makes you more productive in my opinion

It's debatable indeed. One example that comes to mind is video editing. Although some editors have made their way to the appstore, Final Cut Pro for example hasn't yet.

Even though it's 3 hours I'd still recommend a laptop, it can do more than a iPad can, and typically more cheaper. 2 in 1s can double as tablets if you want them.
