Hi! I’m going into my 3rd year as a bio major and I have to say that yes, we do take a ton of notes, but we also have a lot of experiments to go through for at least the first two years which only maybe decreases a little when you go into specialized research labs. For my university, a lot of our lab reports require adobe flash to run some programs and websites where we are supposed to submit our homework. I found that the iPad Pro does not allow you to download adobe, so there’s a limitation there. That’s where you’ll need a laptop. Now, the iPad is great for taking notes since we go through a ton of diagrams and (if you’re like me) you want to go paperless, draw/copy diagrams onto your notes quickly and easily, and still use a “pencil.” Basically, if you do not have a laptop at all, get the laptop first before getting a tablet. You’re really going to need it and you can probably live using paper and pen for little longer 😉 Or you could just type out your notes. If you already have a laptop, getting a tablet may enhance your note-taking experience. This is just my personal opinion 🤗
@@christy8806 Hi Christy! So I recently got a new laptop and its a Dell Latitude 5420. Previously I was using a Surface Pro 4 laptop for years until it was finally time to put her down lol. I'll talk first about my previous laptop: It was 119 GB storage and 4GB RAM soldered in (AKA not upgradable). I actually liked the ability to switch between tablet mode and laptop mode for notes and traditional word doc stuff. The Surface Pro was really light and easy to carry. Before my surface pro up and died, I actually bought an ipad pro because it actually captures my handwriting better (better sensitivity perhaps?), but I heard that the latest surface pros have improved immensely so go ahead and check that out! Also a thing to note is that I had a bit of trouble in my larger lecture halls (200 or 400 students) because our desks attached to the seats were *really* small, and because of how the surface pro hinges, I had a few close calls where the laptop almost fell. You won't have that problem with a traditional laptop. 119 GB of storage and 4 RAM was *not* enough for my major (or any major tbh). I filled the storage before my second year of college ended, even with some data saved in cloud. About my new laptop: I chose it because I was able to get more storage, a better intel core (i7) and greater RAM. Best part is that I can actually upgrade the storage and RAM without having to buy a new laptop altogether. It's a little heavier (3 lbs), but very durable and attractive to look at (I got silver :P). Haven't had any problems with it yet and I'm still trying to find how many open tabs it'll take before the computer slows down noticeably (hasn't happened yet lol). Also note that adobe flash is gone now. I don't know what program is taking its place and I do not know if it is iPad-compatible, so further research on that may be required.
@@rarietyamor8803 oh thank you for responding, your new laptop seems to have a lot of storage that’s good though! And thanks for explaining because I’m still on my iPad (6th generation) and I can’t download Adobe flash which I need to use further in the future for my online courses. I need a laptop, I’ll think about searching for one asap! :)
Him: Get a laptop if your a computer science student Me a computer science student searching through youtube until someone tells me to get a tablet :👁👄👁
Windows laptop is so good specially for Engineering students since we need to use different softwares. Great to find another Engineering youtuber on here 💕
lenovo yoga thinkpad converts from tablet mode to laptop mode plus comes with touchscreen and a stylus. honestly the best thing i’ve ever used throughout HS and probably gonna last me until the end of uni too
I'm about to start my Master's in Marketing and have decided to go for the ipad pro 12.9. I have a background in photography, video work and dabble with graphic design so having the touchscreen capabilities is which made me go the tablet route. Yeah, I agree that it's more about what software you are planning to use and how well they are optimised on the OS. If you can do everything you need on the Ipad then it's a good option. I literally made a list of the things I do on my current 2016 mac and checked to see if the ipad could do it and for me personally it could fulfill those tasks so yeah that's my "two cents" 😅
I REALLY liked this video because of your concluding summary of the advantages of both devices. The points you made about Zoom(mobile vs desktop), Scanning, RUclips Premium, etc are sooo accurate and relatable as a fellow college student. One thing people shouldn't forget though, is that there are 2-in-1 Windows Laptops and 2-in-1 Chromebooks, that make the perfect middle ground for budget college students, who can't afford to buy 2 devices, or people who just want to own only 1 PC for doing everything. So I think the best solution for a K-12 / Uni student is a 15+" 2-in-1 laptop, that has both the large screen for Multitasking, and Pen Stylus capability, for only around $1k USD. Those versatile laptops are REALLY hard to find though. Asus ZenBook Flip 15 (Q528EH) is the only model I would probably recommend, goes for $950 on BestBuy, and has 10 hour battery life (Real battery life, not manufacturer advertised number). As for a 2-in-1 Chromebook with Pen, the $650 Acer Spin 713 is the one to get, assuming you fully understand the limitations of ChromeOS. Personally though, I'm using a cheap, 2nd hand 15" Windows Laptop ($800, for multitask and browsing) + 10" Android Tablet ($400, for handwrite notes) combo, which is also nice because you don't have to Split-Screen when you have 2 separate devices, and you have more options to choose from. It's like having a 16" MacBook Pro + an iPad of choice, only a LOT cheaper. This is also great if you absolutely need a Windows laptop for powerful Graphics, since you can substitute the $800 one for a better Gaming Laptop that fits your budget.
I got an ipad pro because my school gave us a MacBook Air included in the price of tuition. I liked being able to take handwritten notes in Notability but the Mac is more useful for assignments.
Basically answered all my questions. And this video looks very professionally made. Honestly you deserve more subscriber bro! Subscribing for more content in the future 😊
do u have macbook din po ba? kaya kaya na ipad ang main device q for college? it's either macbook air kasi or ipad pro. taking performing arts and magmemed school after. mahirap ba siya pang-edit ng mga copy paste type research documents?? parang ayaw q kasi i-let go ung ipad kasi napaka flexible all around and marami magagawa.
Would you be willing to do a video on specific laptop recommendations for engineering? I have an iPad Pro and a Windows laptop. However, my laptop is on the older side so I’m looking to get a new one for college (I still have a whole year though). I really like the idea of the continuity between Apple products, but the college I plan on going to recommends Windows over Apple for engineering, so I’m not really sure what I’ll end up getting.
I'm studying psychology and I have a laptop. In this field you need to do a lot of research papers so laptop might be better to switch between tabs easily but I'm still confused between the two lol. Since some tablets has the ability to go to desk mode &has keyboards
Where I live laptops are more expensive than the ipad pro 2020. For a guy who likes to take notes i think the ipad pro will be better for me But this video was rlly helpful for me. But now I'm lost between the ipad pro or the galaxy book flex alpha.
thank you, i like how you articulated everything so well. i’ve always used apple myself, but i’ve been loving the ipad with the pencil and magic board, but both are very expensive. so i’m opting for a hybrid.
I have a question....Okay, so I am currently at the end of my junior year of high school and was thinking of purchasing an iPad for senior year, college, and personal use. The major reasons are (1) I am an artist and currently draw from my phone and use a stylus and (2) I think the portability and the somewhat advanced capability of the iPad is efficient for college (taking notes, writing, researching, etc.). I still haven't chosen a major but its between biological science and computer science. I know for sure that an iPad will not be practical for computer science. But like I said its not only for college. ANYWAYS my question is do you think if I chose a biological science I could work with both an iPad and laptop? Like use the iPad for notes, class materials, and art while using the laptop for assignments and papers. Also I could use the iPad to write and research, right?
I personally think having both options are the best way to go. You're going to be senior right? Can you afford both? Some people in the comments have mentioned having to do stuff like labs where they require flash to use it. So if you just had an ipad, youre gonna have to borrow some kind of computer either from someone or from the school. Is there anything else you would use the laptop for? You do have a year and can always get a job just for the other one you didn't get. Also which ipad and laptop are you thinking about getting? The Ipad Air 4th gen is really the best mid range if you don't want to spend too much on a tablet. (You also have to think about the cost of the apple pencil) Also, for perspective, I'm an engineering student (haven't done any specific engineering classes yet in college). Ever since I got my ipad, I use it a lot. I take a lot of notes and it encourages me to look at the notes. Do you like only apple? There are some good android tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab s7/s7+ and there are hybrid laptops like the surfaces for you out there. (Both the samsung and the surfaces come with their respective pens) If you go the laptop only route with no touch screen/hybrid capabilities, there are drawing specific tablets out there for you. It is very much possible to do and have both for different purposes. Sometimes you need to do zoom on the laptop while taking notes on the ipad.
I’m literally in high school just trying to plan what like Tronic to get for college but I have no idea what I’m going into I have no idea what will be more efficient I like iPads better but the same time though I feel like laptops just be all around more useful because they would probably last longer and be much more efficient than the iPad but then again it’s an iPad iPads are awesome
I have to say, surface worked really well for me after replacing it 3 times. I don’t know whether I was unlucky or not, but the first 3 ones I got had hardware problems that showed within the month 😢. It worked perfectly for me during high school, but 119GB and 4RAM doesn’t seem to do well in college 😅 Still love the ability to switch between tablet and laptop though
