I admire that brave mum for admitting she was the reason her son was wayward, and not blaming others. I admire her for kicking her drug addiction too. It's usually to do with the home children are born into. Alcohol, drugs and abuse destroy people and their children far more often than we know.

I'm not a bloke who cries much, but watching this had me in tears. I understand what these kids are going through and what they're feeling, I lived the life of crime, drugs and gangs from an early age as a result of my parents kicking me out of home. It has taken me roughly 8 years to get to where I am now, sober, looking for employment, trying to be a proper father to my daughter. It has taken me so long and I still have such a long way to go. If there had been more services around at the time to help kids like myself and others, I can only but wonder how much better my life could currently be, I probably never would have ended up in jail, or addicted to P, or doing any of the many numerous bad things I did do. I truly hope the government listens to these children and takes on board what they say, because they are correct and they ARE our future, wether we like it or not, so we need to help them the best we can and in ways that work for THEM.

Having had experience in youthwork, I've seen many times how young people feel so profoundly hurt and betrayed by those whose job it is to love and protect them, and how it manifests into intense rage because the hurt feelings are so strong, with so so many layers. Big shout out to those just trying to do their best to survive, and the families and understaffed support networks around them. We are all born innocent. Kia kaha xoxoxoxoxo

My cousin went to LSV by court order he graduated at 16 went straight into gangs not long after it can only do so much when they come from broken homes personally I reckon this new military programme is to prep our troubled youth to become soldiers for the potential of WW3 starting our military and our Western partners are not meeting their recruiting quota Ukraine is running out of manpower it's a meat grinder over there and this time in history we the collective West are the bad guys Russia has every right to engage in this war please don't be so ignorant and naive besides that like the young girl said in this doco "it feels like they're just trying to get them out of the way" I agree in Luxons eyes he couldn't care less once a crim always a crim what better way to use the guise of youth empowerment to mask his dark agenda he has no empathy, humanity and understanding if I'm wrong why has he backtracked on his promises his actions show he has no interest in the health of this nation but the health of him and his friends bank accounts just my observation actions never lie

If the boot camp is anything like L.S.V then it could be great for some of these kids. Alot of the military staff including maori have had the same childhood as these kids and turned their lives around by joining the defence force and are great role models from what I learnt and got to know. But if the govt boot camps are nothing like L.S.V staff and program where the kids will end up being degraded everyday then nah it won't be good for these kids. Atleast with L.S.V the military staff really do their best to lift you up and do better.

Work hard, that's how you get ahead, surround yourself with good people, live a good life and take care of one another. The children need love, they need to feel safe and wanted. Back to basics approach…. I think it's important for us as a society to remember that the youth within juvenile justice systems are, most of the time, youths who simply haven't had the right mentors and supporters around them - because of circumstances beyond their control.

What’s called boot camps, and what was nationals so called Bootcamp approach before consisted of a multipronged approach that included a training and discipline camp, mentoring, Community out reach, drug programs, family liaison, etc etc etc I wasn’t just a physical Bootcamp. And nationals approach did have a positive affect it just didn’t last run enough. It did stop reoffending rates and young offenders etc
So that girl has a problem with authority. Who’s issue and fault is that? Whose problem is that to get over?

This issue is about two things, Race and Accountability.
This is about Maori children, not white children, so it's a " Us and Them " thing, which just expands the devide and prejudice. Boot camp for white children and after school programs for Maori children, harsh penalties for white children and soft approaches and love for Maori children. Stop making everything about the colour of your skin and make it a National issue.
As for the parents of these children, they need to be accountable for their ability to raise their children and not expect the Government to do for them what they don't want to do for themselves, or be more responsible and Not have children at all. If you can't afford or don't want to put in the effort to correctly raise your own children, then why have them at all, and then not want to be held accountable for it. It's like buying a car and not maintaining it but wanting someone else to pick up the tab when it breaks down, be accountable for your descions and stop blaming others for what you do. Nee Zealand needs free birth control not after school programs, each youth offender should be sterilised to stop the cycle of generational criminal offenders, because Accountability is not going to come from within this type of community.
You can hate me all you like, but remember I didn't make this video about this issue or about who it was about, and my comment will only hurt the the people who think that letting people get away with crime because of the colour of their skin is ok.

Bootcamp doesn't make sense to me. These kids are already violent and don't listen, so you then violently discipline them into a civilised manner? Sure, it would work for some and has worked for a number of kids in the past. However, the issue at hand isn't the physical discipline but a mental one. Kids need to talk to people who know how things work in the world and what is considered humane, and then you can work on the physical.

Oh boohoo. My life wasn't the best . My dad use to beat my mum and us many times and my parents never drank or take drugs went to church 4 times a week. All my life I lived in fair he was so violent. Stop blaming a upbringing on what we know as kids know what's right and wrong. Bootcamp is better than jail with the big boys. Back in the day for stealing a bike/ running away you either got boot camp or a boys / girls home. These are violent attacks on business's and large groups of people. My son and his family let themselves get locked in a shop at Hamilton mall. Cars been driven inside smashed over a Michael Hills, and they had weapons. Very scary. People need to stop sugar coating this bullshit

I would love to hear from the people who went through the boot camps and went on to become good, decent hardworking members of society. I know a few. I met them and watched them working with my brother and learning his trade. Not one of them said they hated spending 3 months in a military boot camp. They learned self discipline, self respect and built self esteem which is sadly lacking in kids who grow up around addiction and violence.
