I have lived in the BOP, there is a large Maori population and gangs, the problem I see with the Maori population regarding violence to women and children is the cowardice of the majority of Maori who do not make a stand against it and in most cases hide it, Maori will never know honour until they respect each other and condemn violence , they never ever speak out against one of their own doing the wrong thing, it’s insane and cowardly.

As a survivor of one night of DV leading to him getting 10yrs 2 months in prison, this is not DV. This is home invasion, kidnapping, torture and rape. The Police do nothing to prevent DV and often victimise the woman too, or worse, try and make her a co perpetrator. They need to do a few courses on dealing with victims/survivors in a caring and considerate way, instead of having friendly chats with the perp while rubbishing the woman because they’re listening to the perps lies!!! Disgusting. Even the way they escort gangs to their hui is a joke. Kia kaha Zania. You deserve your current life

Just because gangs are virtue signalling with some community outreach gestures, it doesn't mean they're not headed by violent sociopaths who perpetrate abuse, manufacturing and distribution of meth, aggravated robbery, firearms dealing, extortion, rape, murder and all manner of other crimes that are often enabled by the communities that fear them. Gangs are blatantly misogynistic, and no amount of 'whataboutism' actually alters that truth. To consider yourself progressive and anti-violence against women but still gloss over these facts because it doesn't fit the "gangs are the good guys" narrative being pushed by Te Pata Maori and the likes of Ardern's Labour, you're not only deluded, you're dismissing the experiences of Zania and hundreds of other women over the years. From the cop in Zania's town to everyone in the comments here making mealy-mouthed "not all gangsters" replies and won't even admit this kind of violence is systemic within the gang culture - turning a blind eye is complicity. This woman is the true warrior. Listen to her.

I grew up in domestic violence, housing New Zealand house in mangere, mother on the benefit with eight kids. I have been a victim of domestic violence as well as seen what my poor mother went thru almost every night. so my comment is only from personal experience, not opinion. but yet the mongrel mob are allowed to put them selfs on tv trying to convince us that they are good people. and a person like this is a head member of the mob, this is the type of human they believe in. and I see mongrel mob all Over the tv getting air time. and allowed to have government grants, tax payers money for their so called treatment centres. the gangs stand up in the name of Maori , and then expect us to believe that Maori can run this country better. and then we have this Patrick Gower, who once upon a time use to be good at his job and public position, giving gangs as well as these young guys on their motorbikes air time, making them out to be not so bad people. and is I watch this, I see another post on gang leaders having a go at state care abuse. give these gangs absolutely noting.and when you do give them free air time, make sure you show them exactly how they are, not make them out to be saints. these sort of people believe their own lies. and they certainly do nothing to help the good of Maori, in fact they just bring their community down.
