This is one of the reasons that I no longer will fight anyone, and I avoid physical confrontation pretty much at all costs. All it takes is one punch, and your life as you now know it is GONE. That quick, and in a flash. A good friend of mine (An Attorney) told me about someone that he represented. He said that a fight had ensued (over a female, of all things) and that his client had hit the man just one time. The guy hit his head on the curb, and he died. On a plea deal his client got 14 years. He's still in jail at this moment. He'll probably be out in 5,6 years but his life is pretty much OVER. He won't be able to get a decent job because nobody will hire anyone with a felony record. It's sad, and all because he just could not walk away.
Although I feel bad for them, and I wish things were different for them, I can't say that they don't deserve it. I think when you join gangs and you destroy other peoples lives, the weight of the punishment is justified, even if it is worse than others. I think they did bad things, but they aren't bad people, but people who do bad things have bad things that come to them. But that's just my opinion ig.(Edit: I agree tho that its completely unfair to just toss people into another country and expect them to deal with it, its simply irresponsible and not fair.)
Bubbly Mochi All I got from watching this was that they all lacked a sense of belonging when moving overseas and so joined gangs to fill that emptiness. Its sad that their parents & most island parents in general view the West as the land of milk & honey when they could’ve raised their children better back in their home countries.
Bubbly Mochi bro what are you, a sentimental braindead leftist? These are evil dudes. As the Bible says: "He that commits sin is of the devil" - In other words, bad people do bad things, simple.

Nice doco. Seems a good number of the interviewees are quite fortunate to have nice plots of land in a tiny island nation. Good for them. Imagine how much tougher it is for the other 99% of deportees who do not own acres and acres of extremely fertile land. Hopefully they will all be good people from there on out. What are the stats on that?
This is sad, I always thought of Tonga as being a beautiful polenesian island nation. Good luck to you deportees and make something good out of your life from now on.
good for you. its different for our people tho. we grew up in very poor conditions with little to no purpose or motivation in our lives in the islands, other than to move to nz and actually start living, where gangs and low wages are the norm in certain suburbs. true, there are those that have surpassed these obstacles in life without making life-changing mistakes, but they are human, mistakes and bad decisions are bound to happen. glad you got a crime free life tho.
Good for you. But that's not the way it is for most people. Most people commit crimes due to poverty and all the conditions that go with it. Canada has less crime than America because of social programs. People dont like to believe that and think that criminals are inherently bad, no they are a product of their environment. Any sociologist will tell you, that poverty is the source of crime. There has been countless studies and research but people love to point to exceptionalism instead of focusing on the facts because they think poor people dont work hard enough so lets make them reap the consequences of that even if it just leads to a cycle of violence and misery.
you're not a thug. you may not be an aggressive person who takes risks and likes to live fast. you may be educated or living middle class or better. lots of variables
If they viewed Tonga as a Paradise + a second chance, they'd probably be a lot happier. Tonga is an idyllic little island made up of 172 islands, people with criminal records can still get jobs or you can make the most of the acres of family land. It never gets cold, locals are friendly & the lifestyle is slow compared to that of the West so a lot more free time. It really depends on their outlook on life because moving back to Tonga would be a dream for me

It's a shame that Tonga is now a country full of crime due to the deportees from Australia and elsewhere but sadly Australia like other countries have crimes that we've never had before till we opened the doors to foreigners. It doesn't leave a good taste on certain cultures that arrive here as I do know that alot of them are also good people who are ashamed of their fellow country men as I am ashamed of Australians committing crimes elsewhere. Shame we can't live in a Utopia.
Thats all Tongan people going back to the motherland. Or did you miss that? Its a privilege to move out of one country to another and when you do bad things your out. Then you go home and learn to be humble cause you dont have a bad crowd around you. Quality of life is up to them. Thats real. Thats whats up!

Dude shot someone. That's not shoplifting, that's a serious crime that affects many people

@@islandgal123 aahh the poor babies.

Bubbly Mochi bro what are you, a sentimental braindead leftist? These are evil dudes. As the Bible says: "He that commits sin is of the devil" - In other words, bad people do bad things, simple.
So they are feeling the burden of shame. Good. Perhaps they will want to clean up their lives.
I felt him when he was talking about his dad. That was my same story. Cant fight God so lets fight everyone else. What a lonely life huh?

I am sure there are happy people in Tonga that live wonderful lives. My advice to these guys is to find those people and learn why they are happy and completely forget about your past life. Erase those thoughts the second they pop into your head.
Indeed some States or cities like LA are not places especially for immigrant families to start off. I know families who made the decision to move to calmer states in the north and midwest.
Some of these guys are very articulate. It's a sad situation, especially for the victims and their families, but you guys are now free and can choose to live a life worthy of your being. You can become better. Do better, but you have to believe it because temptation is right there lingering.

Good luck to you deportees and make something good out of your life from now on.

It still is! just like any other island/country, it has its ups and downs
I have a hard time making ends meet but don’t commit crime.
good for you. its different for our people tho. we grew up in very poor conditions with little to no purpose or motivation in our lives in the islands, other than to move to nz and actually start living, where gangs and low wages are the norm in certain suburbs. true, there are those that have surpassed these obstacles in life without making life-changing mistakes, but they are human, mistakes and bad decisions are bound to happen. glad you got a crime free life tho.
I believe you missed the point. Typical.
There has been countless studies and research but people love to point to exceptionalism instead of focusing on the facts because they think poor people dont work hard enough so lets make them reap the consequences of that even if it just leads to a cycle of violence and misery.
you're not a thug. you may not be an aggressive person who takes risks and likes to live fast. you may be educated or living middle class or better. lots of variables
put in the right conditions, yes you and anyone will commit a crime.

I would rather have those 18 acres in serene Tonga than an apartment in Los Angeles.
