  • A complete strip down and rebuild of a Mondeo Mk3 brake caliper. There's also a temp fix of the handbrake cable which is what was causing the sticking brake problem

    Many thanks for this I believe both my rear callipers and brake cable are exactly the same - using twice as much petrol and the car seems to drive like i still have the brakes applied !! Just too bloody cold to sort at the minute !!! A real video with no shite well done mate !

      I'm glad my vids were of some help bud. Just make sure on the rebuild you get the internal pin for the handbrake mechanism lined up properly so it can operate effectively. That little pin has caused me more than a couple of issues by not being located correctly.

    I'm so glad I've found this video as my mondeo mk3 st passed its mot but it said in advisories that service brake is slightly binding so going to investigate into it

    Brake Fluid is Hypascopic and will draw in moisture hence why brake fluid must be changed regularly. That drawn in moisture naff's calipers up from the inside. Mondeos do have sealing issues behind the cable lever on rear calipers also.

    Great video mate, don't suppose you know how to remove the handbrake mechanism from the older style caliper (2000-2004)? They appears to be a 5 pointed socket underneath, I'm guessing this needs to come out but not 100% sure

    I just wished I would have seen you get that caliper seal in you skipped and showed the caliper already put back that is what I was waiting for

    • @TheFakeRussian
      @TheFakeRussian  5 лет назад +1

      The seals are really easy, the inner seal just slips into the recess inside the caliper and the dust seal just presses into place. When putting the piston back in, make sure the seal is thoroughly coated with brake fluid and then if it doesn't want to go in just give it a wiggle or press it back in slowly with a caliper kit or a G-Clamp. Slow and gentle pressure is needed to make sure you don't rip the seal.

      @@TheFakeRussian Hi I want to thank you so much for your help however I have found a detailed video showing how to do this with a retaining clip its here ruclips.net/video/wz0fPLqPvIs/видео.html

      @@0107550160 I just watched the video, (once again RUclips gave me no notification of your reply), and if that is your caliper type my video is a bit useless to you. There's two types of caliper on the cars, the first is like mine and the second is the video. The difference between the two is the the hand brake. On mine the hand brake is at the top of the caliper whereas the linked video caliper has the hand brake at the bottom and they're not interchangeable between vehicles.

      Did you ever figure this out? I need to do the same with my car doesn’t look to have a c type retaining clip and I have been hitting it with a hammer and it wouldn’t budge DONT want to risk hitting it hard as am worried I’ll break it

    Less aggro to buy a new one on eBay. About to pay £28 for a brand new one for my Mondeo, I haven't got the patience to do what you're doing. Should be a quick job just to swap them over.

    Just one point....Jizer has only one 'Z' so is pronounced the same way as Tizer (the fizzy drink) or Miser (someone who is deemed tight fisted). To be pronounced the in way you thought it would have to have a double Z in the spelling. JFYI...

    Does one push the piston in or screw it clockwise?
