It's quite unfortunate that Kid Niki wasn't a huge success in the US. There were a few sequels released, but they were left in Japan. This game has a ton of personality, pleasant graphics, and it's a lot of fun to play. It holds up better than most classic NES games, and it deserves a place on any serious collector's shelf.
In the Japanese version, the ending credits featured an extra portion for the cast of characters, right before the staff roll comes up. King of Poconioccory: Niccory V Princess: Josephine Niccory Butler: Dirty Echigoya Enemy Characters: Vigor Piccolo Struggle Piccollo Clockworker Type I Clockworker Type II Annoying Fly Obstinate Hang Man Obstacle Caterpillar Thunder Fiend Boss Characters: Wooly Phantom (Stages 1, 4, and 6) Hopping Dragon (Stages 3 and 5) Dixie Joe (Stages 2 and 7) Friends: Woocky Leading Actor: Kid Kakefu
Hey Kenny, those poles you leap on, if you jump on the red part at the very top and make the pole bend down, you get an extra life. and you can do that about 10-12 times per pole too!
I always love your intros; your music choice is excellent! ;D I have a request: toobin', for the nes! That shouldn't be too hard to review; it's a more obscure game, so not too many people will recognize it, and I found it to be quite enjoyable (at least the arcade version). Either way, great review/walkthrough! Thumbs up for shoe!
There's a trick to the sling poles I found by accident. If you can get to the very top, before it launches you forward, jump straight up to land on the very top of the pole to bounce on it for 9 lives, then it will launch you forward automatically
actually he's from NE Mass. He mentioned that in one of his "FAQualung" vids a while back P.S. Reason I called the Q&A "FAQualung" was cos in the title of the intro video to that series he actually joked about calling the series that and I liked it so it stuck with me
I got Kid Kool years ago from the Gamestop used NES bin for $1.99. Since then I've played it several times, each time shutting off the NES and shelving the cartridge deeming it impossible. Out of curiosity I decided to search for a walkthrough. I am AMAZED at the kind of skill it takes to pass each of the levels! It seems inhuman! How long did it take you to learn everything?

@dakatubes I was a bit disappointed with AVGN's review of this game. He didn't comment on the bosses and he didn't go too in depth with it. He usually shows a couple parts of the game that really piss him off, he shows some gameplay, and such. Aqualung's review is superior
Honestly, the ONLY thing I find unbelievably bad about this game is the name. I don't think that this even has to do with the kid very much in general, and it sounds like a goofy Japanese anime type of story. Nothing wrong with that, but it doesn't sound like a badass kid trying to take down a secret but epic evil type of story.
What the hell? I just realised this is exactly like psycho fox for the master system. The guy you throw, the bouncy swinging stick things, the signs at the end, even the platforms and water are similar. What gives? anyone have any idea? Were they made by the same developer? It blows my mind that's all these years there's been pretty much psycho fox on NES. Wow.
@shadowmariogalaxy64 AVGN is no reviewer and never was even day 1 in 2004. Granted he was the pioneer of the internet reviewing scene (we wouldn't have AqualungGameReviews today if it weren't for James Rolfe) but that's all he did.
I remember buying this game at some outlet place as a kid, thinking it was kid niki (bad ass game).... needless to say, i was disappointed as hell when i got home.
@shadowmariogalaxy64 I actually meant that AVGN/James Rolfe never was a professional reviewer since he's actually been a film director prior to that (since he originally made the first one as a joke for his friends).
@tsknelson dont 4get what AVGN said though: because hes dealing with his movie, he's only still doing reviews because fans were begging him 2, and that they were gonna b very basic, like his old days. but still, aqualung's reviews always rock
This game looks just awful. The look does resemble Alex Kidd in a big way, mixed with Super Mario Bros., but damn this gameplay does not look fun in the least. I'm glad I never heard of this shit factory.

More detailed than AVGN's review.

Awesome. Love watching these Reviews.

i played this a lot as a kid.
has to have the best game cover art in the history of video games
I like your Brooklyn accent when hearing your reviews. It enhances the review's humor and makes you kinda sound like a bad ass. XD
There's a trick to the sling poles I found by accident. If you can get to the very top, before it launches you forward, jump straight up to land on the very top of the pole to bounce on it for 9 lives, then it will launch you forward automatically
Great review as usual Aqualung.
i enjoy everything you do :)

great as always man!!!
Geez, Kid Kool looks like a messy Big Boy who decided to dress like Mario for Halloween
LOL @ the Lewinsky joke...great review.

@TCgamerboy2002 It's the "spiritual" prequel to Psycho Fox.
@dakatubes
I understand the details with the movie and such. Perhaps he'll touch up on them some more for the DVD Release
Hey! Aqualungs back!
Can you do Clash at Demon's Head eventually?

@pauliejay Please explain how a game that came before and made be the same developer could possibly be a rip off?
@billymetts Oh man that was an awesome game! I vote for CLash at Demon Head too!!
what made you review this game? just found in a weird list? request?
They raised the vid time limit to 15 minutes! :D
O and RIP Randy Savage ;(.
This game bitch slapped me around as a kid. I couldn't get past world 3. It really pissed me off lol
@zonilo1
You have to give him credit for being more of a reviewer than most people nowadays (XPlay and in ways, IrateGamer)
For some reason, the music in this game keeps making me think of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer...I don't know why.
@dakatubes

You should really post the videos in reverse order so part one shows up in my subscriptions first
lol the robots face kinda looks like silent bob

you should do the ultima series
why does this game make me think of Decap Attack? Theres just something that it reminds me of it.
This game is SUPER SUPER hard. My friend and I didn't beat it in time so we got the crappy ending.
awsome
What the hell? I just realised this is exactly like psycho fox for the master system. The guy you throw, the bouncy swinging stick things, the signs at the end, even the platforms and water are similar.

@nihilistbr How so?
Wow and I thought I knew of every Nintendo game ever made.
I don't remember much about this game. I do remember it pissed me off.
is it me or dsoe the king look more like a queen at the 1 min mark
Decap Attack's Grandpa.
@pauliejay It isn't really a ripoff if Vic Tokai was responsible for both games.
What's funny is that this game invented unfairly placed invisible coin-blocks that people like placing in Super Mario World ROMhacks ^^.
@shadowmariogalaxy64

"The Controls are slippery and stiff just like using lube!" :D I'm surprised you didn't get a shit ton of TWSS and TWHS comments on this video.
I have never seen uglier characters in a game. One can only guess what the magic "herbs" were.
I actually like Kid Kool, would have been cooler if cool was spelled kewl and not kool.
@shadowmariogalaxy64
I actually meant that AVGN/James Rolfe never was a professional reviewer since he's actually been a film director prior to that (since he originally made the first one as a joke for his friends).
from 2:49 to 3:01 he was just trying to kill 2 simple enemys ;o
If AVGN reviewed this game, he'd figure out that you can walk on water.
"Now he's walking on water? Who does he think he is, Jesus Christ?"
heh...

"Lack-it-too"...
This game is actually a LOT like SEGA's game, Decap Attack. Obviously Decap Attack is the better version.
0:51 it says "koll". WTF is a koll?
Or New York
@tsknelson dont 4get what AVGN said though: because hes dealing with his movie, he's only still doing reviews because fans were begging him 2, and that they were gonna b very basic, like his old days. but still, aqualung's reviews always rock
Sounds like a Boston accent
why are you so neat =]
3:53
AVGN: And now he's walking on water? Who does he think he is, Jesus Christ? I don't know.
lol you said schmuck
AVGN should do this game.
the song lyrics make no sense...
this that goofy shit yo
im just saying
Kid Kool seems not so cool :-(
great review. this game sucks ass. the review is more enjoyable than the game!
This game looks just awful. The look does resemble Alex Kidd in a big way, mixed with Super Mario Bros., but damn this gameplay does not look fun in the least. I'm glad I never heard of this shit factory.
Looks like a total rip off of Psycho Fox (SMS).
Im not hating or anything, ur cool but you copied a lot of the script in avgn's episode
Except for the fact that this review came out over a year before AVGN's ;)
Good point.
