    📚 Use Snapdrop: snapdrop.net/
    🖥 Similar service to Snapdrop called ShareDrop: www.sharedrop.io/
    🔐 A note on privacy and security: Snapdrop uses an encrypted peer-to-peer connection between your devices using a technology called WebRTC. WebRTC needs a signaling server to establish a connection, but the server is not involved in the transfer of the files. Your files do not touch an external server. Snapdrop code is open-source, and you can review on GitHub: github.com/RobinLinus/snapdrop You can even deploy on your own server, so you handle the signaling without any third party involved.

      There's another way. There are usb drives that has a plug for a phone built in. I believe it's more convenient than using these 3rd party apps.

      I would rather suggest you to setup SMB (Samba). You don't have to install anything, just enable sharing on specific folders.
      Then add that SMB account to any device on your local network. That's all.
      You can then quickly access or edit those folder/files at any time from any device securely, as long as your PC is on.
      You should also set up Microsoft Remote Desktop app on your phone. So you can lay on the couch and do casual work on your PC through your phone/tablet without needing to seat in front of the PC.

      Depends on the use case. If you just want to get a file from one device to another, this eliminates the step of needing to upload / download the file from an external server like Drive, OneDrive, iCloud, etc. When I'm recording videos, sometimes I just need to get a file from one device to another and uploading/downloading adds time (I don't have the fastest internet tier 😔). In terms of privacy/security, Snapdrop uses an encrypted peer-to-peer connection between your devices. It still needs a signaling server to establish a connection, but the server is not involved in the transfer of the files. Your files do not touch an external server.

    • @chrizzlibaer
      @chrizzlibaer 2 года назад +1

      @@scottabergermd thing is, I am not living in the US 😏 So although I am using Google and Microsoft services, not always do I want a file or information to leave my house. This is why I am using clouds like nextcloud instead of onedrive for my sync things.
      Having a direct way to transfer without an additional step of up and downloading is very convenient - but like Kevin I think it depends on the use case!

    It' s not secure method, unfortunately!

    • @KevinStratvert
      @KevinStratvert  2 года назад +3

      Snapdrop uses an encrypted peer-to-peer connection between your devices using a technology called WebRTC.

    Thanks for this one Kevin. I will be demonstrating Snapdrop tomorrow night at our computer meeting (Zoom) here in Barrie, Ontario. I may have to switch to the lookalike Sharedrop since the former has been off the "air" for 7 days now but the latter seems to work just as well. Some members of our club know of your Channel but just in case it will be shared with them as a very useful resource. Your explanations are second to none!
    Mike.

    I've been using the procedure from your video of July 7th entitled "How to Transfer Photos, Videos & Music Between iPhone & Windows PC" which has served me well. I will try this procedure also but I rarely use any of my devices that are Android based so I may just stick with the July 7th procedure, we'll see. Thanks a lot.

      The one benefit of the previous video is that there's no need for a signaling server to establish a connection between your devices.

    Dear Mr. Kevin Stratvert,
    Transferring huge lot of files between my devices have been so far a huge nightmare to me!
    It has become a big challenge on a regular basis whenever I get any spare time!
    I tried hundreds of applications, programs, techniques and both wired and wireless connections till date in vain.
    Connectivity as easy as if I were doing "Drag and Drop" on Windows Folders, is what I need.
    Going thru your video step by step. Will try for some more time and write back.
    Thanks a lot for this very useful instructive video.

    This is pretty good! I just bought a new Samsung S23 and was trying to copy a file from my OneDrive to my 'My Files' on my phone. SURPRISE!!!!! It doesnt work, rediculous arcane, meaningless errors, but, try again later.
    Almost 2024 and we're STILL experienceing these issue?? Well at least we can have fun wallpapers, that's very productive and useful.
