Copy Photos from iPhone to PC - Get Your Photos Off Your Phone

- Are you wondering how to copy photos from iPhone to your PC? In this video, I'll guide you through the process step-by-step so you can finally get your photos off your phone!
We did a survey recently asking our clients about their smartphone challenges and almost all of them wanted to save their pictures on their computer. It's a smart move because you have a copy at home, and you can back it up to an external hard drive and store it in a cloud storage like Forever.
I'll walk you through a few things first on the iPhone library and settings before we can transfer those photos to the PC.

Thank you so much for this. I can not count the hours that I've spent trying to get my photos from the Iphone to the PC. Nothing was working. Simply changing those settings fixed every single issue.
Well that is wonderful!! Hallelujah - you never know sometimes. So glad this helped!

IF YOU HAVE KIDS YOU SHOULD LEAVE THE LIVE PHOTOS ON!!!!! So suprised you are recommending turning it off. It's been a life saver so many times in getting action shots of kids who are moving fast.
Thanks for sharing! I do have kids and never went back to get the better shot. My bad!
@@Pixologie I've done it countless times as my kids have grown. They are smiling until they see the camera, or they are jumping across something and I snap a half second too late. I never go back either. I do it right on the spot. If the photo isn't perfect I slide a little back or forward in time to get the perfect shot. Truly, I've done this thousands of times since this feature came out and its a godsend. I leave this on all the time and have been angry when somehow it accidently gets turned off. As a result I've gotten hundreds of really good photos (maybe more) that I never would have got without it. I see no downside to it. Just delete the little move files it creates that you don't want once imported to the PC. Anyway, thanks for your video. I did learn one thing from it that was helpful. Glad to see they name the folders by month now. Didn't realize that till now.
I love hearing your thoughts! I will share this. You are correct to do it right on the spot! But, sadly, most people don't even realize what it is doing or that they can edit. I've had clients with 6,000 plus Live Photos. Thank you so much for posting your process!
I have been trying to figure out for the longest time how to turn off the live photo feature. That alone was worth watching the video. You are a lifesaver. Thank you so much.
Hi there - Hooray! glad to hear this. Just be careful, it turns back on whenever you update your phone!
Cheers!

This was helpful! I'm a relatively new iPhone user, after years of Androids. Your walkthrough of the iPhone camera and photo settings was a big help, as I had never changed any of these settings. I use a PC, and I've followed a lot of your suggestions for working with photos I'm scanning in, but I haven't bothered much with the photos on my phone, so I'll be checking this video out more than once!
Wonderful to hear! Thank you so much for commenting and watching!

This is the best video explaining this subject because you showed what I have to do on my iPhones too. Very helpful!
Glad it helped!! Thanks for watching. . .
Thanks. This was so easy to follow and I got my photos downloaded. I totally appreciate your step by step instructions. I hate those videos that play music and leave you to figure it out by watching someone click on tabs.
Glad it helped. . . Thanks so much for watching!

Finally, after endless search, I finally found a tutorial that really works! You teach great, guys! Thank you so much!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching!
This is the best tutorial! Thank you for all the details and making it clear!
Hey - thank you so much for watching and posting!! Cheers!

Its great that you allocate half of the screen, whenever necessary for a close-up of the screen you are demonstrating, with the rest for your image. So many screenshots within videos are lost on me as I can't see them as they're so miniscule (even on full screen and on a large monitor).
Thank you so much! 😊
Your tutorial is very easy to follow and I have adjusted all the settings as you suggest, however I do not get the pop up question as to whether I "Trust This Computer" so therefore I cannot proceed. Do you have a suggestion as to why that would be? Thank you.
Hi Julie - if the pop-up question on your phone is not appearing, then your cable connection is not good. Have you tried a different cable? Here's a newer version of this video to watch: ruclips.net/video/pQjmosYtH_w/видео.htmlsi=MoTYOASIFfUhiZ1W for Windows 11 which does have troubleshooting tips at the end.
Good luck!

thank you for responding to my previous question so quickly. It is appreciated. Sorry another question. As you call tell I'm an iphone newbie and not real happy with it. Another question when attaching my phone using the charging it cable it doesnt come up with the window asking if I want to allow. A question pops up in lower right corning of desktop asking me what I want to do with the phone. Please help. I need to get these images transfered over so I can start working with a trial version of some editing software before it expires. Thanks again.
Hi there - when your computer has the popup down at the right, it may be asking you what you want to do - choose Open with File Explorer. This video deals with using WIndows 11 and transferring photos but shows what to choose: ruclips.net/video/pQjmosYtH_w/видео.htmlsi=cwbtKHJY_Jkswrwx
Hoping this helps!
Good luck!

Great tute. The demonstration of the steps is very helpful in gaining a good understand of the process. Thank you. However, I encountered a problem. When connected to my computer the Iphone can be seen in File Explorer but when clicked on explorer tells me 'This folder is empty". My iPhone is an Iphone 11. Is it too old for this process, or do i need to do something to actually see the folders as demonstrated in your RUclips video.
Hi there - Is your iPhone optimized? Here's an additional video with some troubleshooting tips at the end: ruclips.net/video/pQjmosYtH_w/видео.htmlsi=Szm1dGmExIm6JaEX (even if you aren't using Windows 11 yet). This process works all the way back to the first iPhone. Hoping this helps. . .

Very detailed and informative. I’ve learned quite a lot from this video. Thank you.
Thanks so much for watching Rita and your kind words!
Thank you for the video. Can I just cut and paste so I delete photos from my phone?
Hi there - I never cut photos in File Explorer. One wrong tech problem and your photos can be deleted forever. (Better to copy, then delete.) Hoping this helps!
Mollie
Very easy video and clear to understand. Only issue I have is when uploading from iPhone to pc they now are not in chronological dates to select. Amy advice. Thanks Linda
Hi Linda - In your File Explorer, add the column for Date Taken and then sort by Date Taken. Have you tried that?
Thanks for watching!

I have optimize iPhone storage on so will I still be able to transfer my photos my PC from my iPhone or do I have to do it from iCloud? Love the video.
Hi there - If you have it optimized, you won't be able to transfer them from your iPhone. (You can turn it off if you have enough storage space on your phone.) Downloading from iCloud is an option - but do keep up with it! You can only download 500 at a time I think. Cheers!

@@Pixologie do you have a video explaining how I can get them from the cloud in regular size, if you know what I mean. Your videos are excellent.

It was also super helpful to share your screen so we could follow along with you and accomplish the goal of freeing up our iPhone storage and at the same time preserving our photos to our PC in a useable format.

Honestly miss the good old days of opening your android phone files, selecting all of them, transferring them into a laptop and thats it … im so fed up with apple and regret ever buying it … everything is so complicated, you never know whats what, ive deleted the same files from my phone over and over and from the trash as well and they are still there
Hi there - I totally get it! I'm wondering how your photos keep reappearing if you are trashing them. That is very frustrating! If you can provide any more details I will see if I can help.
Cheers!

Agree ,iPhone sucks it’s super annoying and not so user friendly at all I hate it.
So many people feel the same!
Yup an absolute nightmare !
I agree 100%, and this is why I just got a Samsung S14 and it's been a fantastic switch.
GREAT INFO!!! Makes that uploading from the iPhone to the PC archaic and SO much better!! (I've been working on many things since getting the latest hand-me-down, new-to-me PC ... had so many problems AND THEN, Win 10 for Win 11 and the GALLERY!!! And so many other problems. I've watched several of your videos which have covered subjects I sorely needed to help me with this. Thanks a bunch.
Are you still producing videos? I saw a video somewhere here about weathering the storms and I wasn't sure if it was about photos or the storms over in Appalachia. I hope you're okay and not in the CA fires either.
Thanks a bunch.
Yep, still doing videos! I’m so glad these are helpful for you. I’ll have a new one tomorrow about converting heic files to JPEG’s. Thanks so much for watching!
@ I’m curious if I have already found what you’ll be talking about. 🤔 looking forward to the video!
I’ve been wrangling this pc stuff for days! One thing and then another, only to find out the HEIC extension - which was changed on a number of my old jpg files!! Argh! And OneDrive and Gallery … there’s a “breaking point”. Right? 🤣😮💨
For sure - there's a breaking point of frustration and yuck - so much to muddle through! I do have this webinar you can watch if you like: www.thepixplan.com/registration-page-6ff0a8b5-af84-4040-a005-223d3cb25982
Wishing you the best in the journey!

@ thank you
You are very welcome! : )
Thanks so much. Very helpful video! So does this eliminate buying photo sticks?
Hi there - yes you don't have to buy a photo stick. Get your phone photos copied to a folder on your computer. Then back up the folder of photos to an external hard drive and one place outside of your house - a cloud site like FOREVER. Hoping this helps!
does the word delete means anything other than delete? Just wondering.
Haha - I think delete is delete! Trashed, gone, etc. (Although usually we have 30-60 days to view items in the delete bin! Thanks for watching and commenting.
exactly what i needed, thank you!
You're welcome! Glad it helped!!
Thanks for the very helpful video. What I'm really trying to accomplish is CLEARING THE PHOTOS ON MY iPHONE XS. I keep getting to a place where the phone tells me I don't have enough data space for any more photos. I want to move them to my PC and delete them from my iPhone so I can take more pictures without paying for more storage on the iCloud. Can I delete the photos from my iPhone once I have them saved on my PC? Will that also delete them from my iCloud?
Hi there . . once you copy them to your PC AND, made a backup copy to an external hard drive and another cloud location, then it is safe to delete them off your phone. When you delete them from your phone, the photos are also deleted from iCloud. Hope this helps!
Cheers!

@@Pixologie Appreciate very much your reply to this viewers question!! It was exactly what I wanted to know also. Have continued success!!!🤗
Thank you so much!
Thank you for all this information-question-how can I tell if the photos on my phone thumbnails and the complete photos are only are in the Cloud?
Hi Susan - sorry this took a bit to answer. Unfortunately, its really hard to tell which ones are the thumbnails. Sometimes, I notice that there is a cloud symbol on the lower right (especially on videos), I think. And that means it is in the cloud. . . It's so frustrating! Because, then when you click on the photo, I think the photo downloads to the phone? I wish I could help more here!

Wow this is very clear and well filmed! Thank you!

I dont know if i have not read into the comments far enough, but I require to know more about the finer details of the restoration of lost files from the phone bythe cloud storage. you didnot mention deletion of the photos from th iphone.
If you have icloud storage, do you have to delete twice, ie once from the cloud and once from phone. Take a step back and explain how that interlink works
Hi there… your iPhone photos (if iCloud Photos is turned on) are synced with iCloud. If you delete on your phone, your photos will automatically be deleted in iCloud. The photos will be held in the Recently Deleted for 30 days and then are deleted permanently.
The tutorial was great. Is there a way to copy just an iPhone photo album to a PC?
Hi - thanks for watching. Unfortunately, you would need to go to icloud.com and then go to the Photos area, click on the album and then download those photos to your computer.
This is why I don't spend much time organizing in the Photos app on my phone anymore. Too frustrating!
Cheers!
Mollie
Can I select the photos I want to transfer or do I have to transfer all at once?
Yep Ryan, you can select the photos that you want by going into the folders and copying the ones you want over to your computer.
Cheers!
Mollie
Yep… just select the photos you want to copy! You can copy the whole folder, or selected photos inside the folder.

This is a great video. Easy to follow along and so helpful and informative. Just what I need.
Great to hear! Thank you so much!
Hello. I viewed your video again on this topic and followed all the steps. However, for some strange reason, not all the pics from my iPhone are being copied to my PC. Any suggestions on this? Also, I realized that once my iPhone is connected to my PC, trying to delete photos from the directory where the iPhone is connected proves to be problematic. I can't seem to click on multiple pics to then delete. Your help on this is also greatly appreciated. Again, great video on the topic!!! 🙂
Hi Harry - it's possible, that your phone is optimized and some of your photos are being stored full version in iCloud. Watch this video for an update:
ruclips.net/video/pQjmosYtH_w/видео.html
I usually don't delete photos on my iPhone using File Explorer. I do that on the iPhone where I can select multiple ones.
Hoping this all helps.

@@Pixologie Hello Mollie! Thank you for taking the time to respond. I eventually got it done. However, after moving "All" my pics from iPhone to PC, after disconnecting, I still see pics on my iPhone. 😀
Hi there - sorry for the delay in replying. When you do this. . . you are COPYING the files, not moving them. You'll have to delete them on your phone if you don't want them anymore.
Thanks so much for letting me know how it went!
@@Pixologie Hi Mollie. I did delete from my phone, but they all re-appeared again. Do I need to disconnect from my laptop after transferring and deleting? What are the steps to "Select All" pics on the iPhone so I don't have to click one at a time? 🙂 Thank you for being so helpful!
Hi Harry, if you deleted the photos from your phone, they shouldn't come back. Are you deleting from your PC while your phone is connected? Apple does not have a select all feature on the iPhone. If your phone is backing photos up to iCloud, you could log in there and attempt to delete your photos as well. I think it is selecting one at a time as well. Apple does not make it easy.
Good luck!
Mollie
A great video thanks for all of the tips
Thank you so much for leaving this comment and watching!

Mollie
thanks for sharing this info.....what is the way to see the AAE pictures?
Hi Jen - unfortunately, the AAE is not a photo. . . it goes with an actual photo. If you are in Windows, you cannot view it. You should be able to see the original photo or the edited photo that the AAE file corresponds to.
I'm hoping this helps a bit.
Cheers!
Mollie
Exactly what I need for my photos!
Great - I so appreciate you letting me know and for watching!!
I am so grateful your video and how to transfer. I have many pics on phone and would send copies to email then to my photos and sort. This is going to be so nice and easy to move or copy. My question is If I have .AAE showing and delete them, do the pictures that I worked on (like enhance, corrected color or have lines) I want going to disappear? (I have moved pictures already in to some photos). I would want to keep my corrected picture. If that happens, do I got to keep .AAE? Thank you so much for making your videos, I will be sure to tell anyone that ask how I arranged my photo files!!!!
Hi Jim - thanks for the comment and watching. If you delete the .AAE file that corresponds to the photo, you are deleting the edits you made to that photo. If you know you have the corrected photo, then you can delete the .AAE. Hope this helps! But. . . always test the theory!
Cheers!
Mollie
Thank you so much. I watched many other videos and they were suggesting third party apps that wanted full access to your pics. I wasn’t comfortable with that. I wish I can buy you a few drinks. My question is, I want to keep those AAE files because I need those changes. How do I convert those to JPegs?
Hi there - unfortunately, AAE files cannot be converted to JPGs. You could potentially download the edited photos from iCloud.com and your iCloud account if you have iCloud turned on. Hoping this helps!
Cheers!
Mollie
Thank you for this! Was easy to follow and complete
Glad to hear it!! ❤️
i have 13,000 photos and trying to move to laptop. It is very nerve wracking since the time to transfer is insane as one might expect, but what is really worrisome is that i never trust that the transfer form the iphone to pc will actuallly transfer all photos. it is nearly impossible to verify this quickly since apple puts photos in those monthly folders at download. I was thinking of getting an iexpand flash drive to move pictures from phone to that first. not sure if that would be better. woe is me. thanks for the video.
Hi there… that’s a true problem… copying all of the photos at once is problematic. Sometimes the transfer gets interrupted and you truly would have to start over because you don’t know what has copied over and what hasn’t. I don’t recommend it but some people do use dropbox and or OneDrive to sync a copy to a computer. I prefer to just copy year by year with the folders.
Thank you so much for sharing.
You are so welcome! : )
Hi there, your video is very helpful, thank you. I have immediately transfer the iphone pictures to my PC, however the phone only showes 2021 to 2024 photos, I guess the ones back from 2016 to 2020 were all in icloud, which I have to download from icloud on line. is there any better way to do it instead of go on icloud and download every 1000 pictures to PC? appreciate it!
Hi there… do you have space to turn off optimize iPhone in your Photos Settings? If not, you could download iCloud app to your PC. It will install a iCloud folder to your file Explorer and then you can download that way. Hope this helps!
Cheers!
Mollie
Mam I watched your video it is quite helpful.. I use iPhone for taking pictures and wish could easily transfer them to my pc. I am facing one big problem with it . I use group of photos by adding them to specific albums. But I can not transfer them in that arrangement. Will you please guide me do this in an easiest way
Hi Zain,
Unfortunately, you can’t do this through your phone to your PC directly. However, you could I believe go to iCloud.com and download your photos by album if you are using iCloud to back your phone up. it’s not ideal and you can only download 500 photos at a time but that might be one way to get your pictures to your computer in the organization you have from your phone. Hoping this helps!
Cheers!

Seeing all the great comments on this video I now feel like the village idiot. I am new to an iPhone so things have been a struggle. You have a newer video on transferring pictures from am iPhone to a laptop. I still cant get it. From an earlier video I went to Photos and clicked on Search and did a test using several "to be deleted photos" to see if I could get them to my laptop. It took awhile but i did it somehow. Getting brave I did a search people and dogs, deleting several irrelevant photos. I can't figure how to get these to my laptop. I need to clear up a lot of storage on my phone as I cant upgrade to the latest ios update. I also thought I heard you say in a newer video that iCloud storage only sends thumbnails back to the phone but maintains the originals. Is this correct? iCloud storage is relatively limited. I think your videos are the best I've seen but when you are not a tech type and old to boot, well. I would die if I did something wrong and lost photos of my dogs. HELP. There's no teenage tech types for hire around here. :)
Hi Eugene - Don't feel like the village idiot! First question . . . Have you connected your phone with its USB Cable to your computer? If so, you should be able to see folders on your iPhone. Let's start there!
I'll await your answer!
Mollie

I have a problem since I just learned how to edit my camera setting to “most comparable so that my photos are taken in jpeg format.
I have already shot off my 900 pictures of Africa photos in the HEIC format & now unable to share with non apple users. Of course I can edit the format on EACH photo but is there a way to edit 3 weeks of photos easily from HEIC to JPEG?
Thank you...
I watched technology go from using the pc to store your stuff, to using the cloud. In my opinion, the cloud is NOT where you want your stuff...only as a option not the only place. Too many people I run into have filled up their devices with pictures, videos or music and when that device fails..well needless to say, they lose everything. I make it and always have made it a point to copy or nove all my personal data from my phone and onto an external backup as well as the internal work drive.
Hi Biggfoot52! I agree and have my photos on my computer, backed up to an external hard drive and then I have a copy in the cloud (FOREVER). In order to see your photos in the cloud, you have to have internet connection and I feel strongly that we can't rely on that either. Thanks for watching!

@@PixologieHi, when you transfer video from iphone to pc is it the same size ? When I transfer video to pc it's few mb less.
HI there - So sorry for the late reply. . . the video should be the same size more or less. Apple to Windows does show some differences. What percentage less are you seeing?
@@Pixologie If video is 160 mb in my pc it’s 152 mb. I am wondering is there a way to transfer video and to show same size in pc and iphone.
Few days ago I transfered 4k video from ipfone and it can’t play it well. Is there way to transfer 4k video from iphone ?
Hi again - Macs and PCs read data differently, but the quality should be the same. If you are backing up to iCloud, then you could go to www.icloud.com and download the video from there to see if there is a better quality video? To me, 160MB versus 152MB doesn't seem like that much of a difference in file size.
Other ideas: you can look under your Photos settings to transfer to PC or Mac as originals instead of Automatic. To transfer 4K video, you have to record in 4K which creates very large files. You can change this setting in your camera - Record Video settings.
Hope some of this helps.
Cheers!

Hi there, I wanted to know once you transfer all of your photos and videos from your iPhone to pc, is there a way for you to retrieve them if you wanted them later on on your iPhone?
Hi there - it would be complicated. You cannot copy photos back to your phone in the same way. You'd have to go to iCloud.com and upload your photos there to come back down to your phone. (You would have to have iCloud enabled for your iPhone Photos library.)
Hope this helps!

@@Pixologie ah okay, I’m currently uploading my photos to iCloud, but I know once I delete my photos from my iPhone it deletes it on iCloud as well. The reason why I wanted the photos in a safe place is so that I can clear my iPhone storage as I already used up 1TB of storage. I was really hoping that there would be a safe to transfer back those photos on my iPhone one day if I wanted to
@@Pixologie sorry my apologies I read your comment wrong, so disregard my last comment, but thank you so much! I’m glad that’s a way to transfer and import photos and videos from pc to iPhone and iPhone to pc. You’re a life saver!!
You are welcome . . . but be careful - again its hard to get the photos back in that way. Be sure you keep a current copy of all your photos on an external hard drive in your home.
Thanks for sharing…..
Can you help troubleshoot the following please: 1) why would I see pics on my phone but they are not showing on the computer screen when I hook up my phone to transfer them from my phone to PC? 2) Why would pics that saved to my PC from my phone not show on the phone? So weird. 3) And why do I have to keep rebooting my phone so my pics will appear in Internet Explorer when I'm trying to save them. The iPhone folder is showing as empty unless I cut my phone off and turn it back on. Thanks!
Hi there - if you see photos on your phone, but not your PC, your phone is optimized and the originals are being stored up in iCloud. I am not sure what is going on with photos saved to your PC but not showing on the phone. . . did you delete them off your phone? Rebooting your phone could be a poor cable connection.
Here's another video dealing with Windows 11 - but the troubleshooting tips at the end might help. . . ruclips.net/video/pQjmosYtH_w/видео.htmlsi=e3mH7yES9wQlyzpb

8:00 are these files the best quality or are the best quality in the cloud?
Hi Toon - Fortunately, Apple only stores the original photo (highest quality) on phones and in iCloud. So you are good if you can copy them from your phone or download from iCloud. (the problem occurs when your photos are Optimized and only stored in iCloud - then you have to download them to get it. There is NO option to copy photos that are viewable on your phone but optimized to save on device storage.)
Hope this helps!

Fantastic! Thanks for watching!
Hi Ma'am,
if we dont copy the AAE files do we get the original pictures? Suppose I have made changes to a photo and deleted the original photo, do we get the original photo in HEIC or JPEG format, or we just get the AAE extension since we have a modified version?
You will get your original photos in whatever format you took them (unless you selected to transfer photos in a compatible format, then just JPEGs will transfer) That setting is the bottom of your Photos Settings.
The AAE file doesn't help at all once you leave the Apple system. Ugh!
Hope this helps!

If you're an it guy why did you buy an iPhone when you know they are incompatible with windows
I think people don't know they will be connecting their phone to their computer in some way to get their photos, maybe?
My regular charging cable isn’t working, does it have to be a data transfer cable?
I believe all cables can transfer data… it’s a good idea to test a different one, however. I’ve seen charging cables, not be able to connect to a computer. I would definitely recommend getting a new one.
@@Pixologie it works perfectly on my laptop but not my pc. Very strange. I’ll keep trying different things. Thanks
Good luck!
I was trying to get the photos I took this morning off of my iPhone 13 - when I open the internal photos 202411_ from my PC connected to my iPhone, but they do not show up in that folder - I can see them on my phone on the camera roll, but not in the Apple iPhone\Internal Storage\202411_ folder, or in any of the other folders in the Internal Storage folder - so where are they, and how do I see them on my PC?
Hi Jeff - this means your iPhone is likely optimized and the originals are being stored up in iCloud. you'll have to go to settings>Photos (or Settings>Apps>Photos and uncheck optimize iPhone Storage - assuming your phone has enough space on it to hold all of your original photos.

Not sure if you will see this but I have a question. I have 79,000 photos on my iPhone and I had the button on so apparently many stored in cloud. I tried the cable to pc and opened photos on pc. Watched all travel for 10 hours then they just disappeared from pc (still on phone though). Bought a 256 Omni stick but now afraid to try it. Tried cable again and now don’t even get the trust option.
Sorry so wordy but bottom line is bought new iPhone and they offered unlimited iCloud to transfer. Is it possible to download from cloud to my pc instead of new phone?
Hi there… downloading from iCloud is absolutely miserable! We won’t do it this way for our clients because it is slow, prone to internet errors stopping download and you have to scroll endlessly to select photos to download. I would recommend getting a phone with enough storage that the photos all fit on it. Also, it sounds like you might be copying all the photos at once this is very prone to error. Did your phone just start importing to the computer or did you find the folders to copy over when you can copy folders you want to do it and manageable batches not all at once because it’s hard to figure out what went wrong.

Hi, is your video applicable to transferring photos from Iphone 15Pro to Microsoft Window laptop?
Yes - the iOS is the same phone to phone. Your camera has more features. . . but transferring works the same.
Cheers!

Mine just isnt coming up. It is so frustrating - I had done it in the past. Now I cannot get it to work. I want to transfer my photos from iphone which is 8 plus to my sandisk which is just like a plug in flash drive thing that holds a lot.
Sounds like you are connecting to a camera card/flash drive. You can't tell what is wrong if you don't connect it to the computer. I wonder if your photos are optimized and that is why the drive isn't getting them. Can you connect your phone to a computer? This way you can view the folders and determine if all your photos are present on your phone.
Good luck and I'm sorry you are having these troubles!
Mollie
@ 6:00, when I plugged my iPhone in, NO window popped up; I don't know how to get to where you are(!?!?!) So far, up until the 6 min. mark, I could mostly follow what you were doing. NOW, I'm STUCK.
Hi there… is it possible your cord isn’t working? Or your USB port is not working? Can you try a different cord or a different port? Hoping this might help. If you can’t see what I see on my screen, then your phone is not connecting to the computer properly.
I can't find the Albums I have made on my phone and separated photos. Can you preserve those albums with their names when you back up photos?
Hi Jeff - you should be able to view the Albums under the Albums tab. However, you won't be able to transfer the photos by album to your computer. So frustrating. The backup to iCloud does preserve the albums. Some people have gone to iCloud.com to download photos by their albums. (You should be able to see your albums up there.) Hoping this helps!
Cheers!

Once you transfer your photos, videos to a folder on your desktop, can I delete the pictures on my iphone? And will the pictures and photos remain in my new folder on my desktop?
Can I just move all the photos and videos to a folder on my desktop instead of copying them?
Hi Millie - that is a very good question. . . Some people do delete their photos off of their phone after copying them to their computer. BE SURE you have backed up your folders of photos in two places - like an external hard drive in the house and a location outside of the house like Forever Permanent Storage or other cloud service.
You can't move the photos from one device to another - it has to be a copy. If you want to delete, then you can delete the photos - but again, just be sure you have them backed up.
Cheers!

Hi, thanks for a very informative video! Could you please do a similar video for transferring photo and video from my Iphone 15Pro to an external hard disk instead of to pc. (I do not intend to copy to my pc due to storage constraint on my pc).
Appreciate you can show in the video how to get rid of AAE files , and how to get rid of the duplicate photo with the same IMG number, except one has an ‘E’ in front of the same number. After all these deletion and reorganization, how to have an organised folder output according to date in ascending order.
Thanks!
Hi there. . . I don't have an iPhone 15Pro but the iOS should be the same. Your secondary File Explorer Window would be for your External Hard Drive.
If you don't want to save the edits you made on your phone . . . then. . . .
AAE Files you can just delete. IMG numbers with the e refer to photos you have edited. You can delete either the original photo or the edited photo.

What is a sidecar file?
Sometimes people edit their photos on their phone. When the photos are copied over to the computer, sometimes you only see the original and then a sidecar file next to it. The sidecar file contains the edits, and it is not possible to combine the edits back to the picture. Most often I see people just delete the sidecar files. It looks like a piece of paper and nothing is visible.
Hi - I connect as directed (cable/trust/password) which is exactly the way I did it - and it worked - on my last PC. Using my new PC, which has Windows 11, it's not working (I believe the old one was Windows 10). Now, IPhone doesn't show up on File Explorer. I'm on vacay and need to make room for a ton of photos pronto. Can you please help? Maybe via email?
2 - PS, also, I believe before I got a different prompt; instead of "Trust..." I believe it asked "ALLOW this computer" (perhaps this has something to do with my issue?). Also, thank you so much!
Hi Renae - You definitely need to allow your computer to have access by clicking the allow message on your phone. Unplug your phone from the computer and replug it in to get the message again. I'm hoping you've gotten this to work already?
Cheers!

Thank you, but on my side when I move the folder it doesn't move all pictures and comes error msg that "A device attached to a system is not functioning"
Hi there… If not, all of your pictures are copping to your computer. It probably means your phone is optimized. This means some of your photos are only thumbnails on your phone and being stored fully up in iCloud the error that a device attached to a system is not functioning may relate to a poor connection between your phone, USB cable and computer, when this happens, I try different things, including a different cord or a different USB port on my computer or a different computer I’m hoping some of this might help. So challenging!
thank you for the excellent tutorial very helpful

Hi, Molly, need some clarification as I also do not like to make use of Live photo function.
You suggested to turn the Live photo OFF at 4:55… Did you turn it off in the video? I still see the green button there, doesnt appear to me that it had been turned off.
But then why at 5.00, the top right corner of the camera screen showed that the Live photo has indeed been cancelled /turned off?
Hi there - the Live Photo button that is turned on indicates "Preserve Live Photo Setting." meaning if you turn off Live Photo in the Camera, the next time you open your camera, it will still be turned off.
When you see the Live Photo indicator off in the Camera screen, it is because I had turned it off previously and my setting preserved how I turned it off.
Awfully confusing. . . thanks to Apple!!
Hi, Molly, tq for your reply. Am i right to understand that we shd set the Live Photo at camera screen OFF first, then only go to camera setting to turn Live Photo on (to preserve the setting in the camera screen)?
Or it doesn’t matter of the sequence of the above 2 actions (so long the 2 actions are performed) , if my intention is not to use the Live Photo function.
Yep - set the camera screen Live Photo setting OFF. However, when your phone updates, I believe the preservation setting in the Camera Settings will default back to being off. So. . . moral of the story - always be watching for that Live setting in the camera. If it's on, you have to go back to the Camera Settings-Preservation Settings to turn the Live Photo Preservation setting ON. So silly how complicated this is!!
Thanks Molly or your great help!

Hello I'm looking to transfer only the pictures that haven't been previously uploaded.
When I try to import the program imports every picture This isn't ideal because I have about 14000 pictures and it takes unnecessary long time. Any help? Thanks
Hi Dveloso - When you say import, what does that mean? I don't allow the computer to automatically import photos from my phone. I connect the phone with the computer and then CHOOSE what to copy over. Hoping this helps.
Also, you could install iCloud Photos on your computer and your photos would download automatically.
Cheers!

My photo edits are SUPER IMPORTANT to me! I change almost everything when editing in my iPhone, to make photos better. So while you said they’re not important to YOU, how do I SAVE my edits when transferring to my laptop?
Hi IpanemaShirley77 - Thanks so much for watching and posting this question. I tested this by editing a photo I took (cropping and applying a filter). When I connected my phone to my PC, I could see the original photo and the edited photo. IMG_9189 and IMG_E9189. On my phone, I can only see the edited version. So . . .
I think you'll be able to copy your edited photos over, but you may also have to deal with the original photos as well.
The best thing to do. . . is connect your phone to your PC and look at the photos in File Explorer. I work month by month.
Hoping this helps!

Whenever I try to copy and paste from iPhone to my laptop it does not work, always saying something like can’t transfer file, please help
Hi there - How old is your phone? And your computer? Another option would be to download the photos from iCloud if your phone has backed your pictures up there.
I have the same issue, need PC and new phone.
Do you have iTunes installed on your PC? In my experience, the PC will not recognize the files on your Apple devices without iTunes installed.
I had done it for years albeit it was cumbersome but it worked; however when I tried it on my brand new laptop and my iPhone 13, it would crash. I tried it both through the windows photos app and through file explorer but both would crash
Keeping things somewhat up to date does help. Hoping you can get new equipment!
Please i have a question. I connected my phone to monitor at work to charge it. I accidentally hit “allow” when prompted on iphone if i trusted the device. Does that monitor have remote access to my photos now? Im so worried. Its a windows pc 10
Hi there… once you unplug your phone from your computer, the computer has no access to your phone or its contents. If you reconnected it to your computer, you would be asked again to allow the computer to have access to your computer.
I forgot to mention I have an iPhone 13. When I saw the iPhone icon on my computer it did not show any internal storage like in your video. How can I download also my files (in folders) from my iPhone? I have switched from an android to iPhone and should have never done that. Now I am stuck with it. Please help me. I am so frustrated.
Gigi - when you connect your phone to your computer, you should see a message on your phone something like "Trust this computer?" and you will need to click Yes so that your folders will be viewable like in the video. Can you try that again?
In some ways, I think with the newest updates to iPhone, it is easier to get photos copied to your computer in dated folders than with Android. (With Android, you have to create new folders by month on your computer.)
Hope this helps!
Cheers!

Apple should address this issue especially when you are not connected to the net. Just recently use i phone and i got stuck on how am i going to transfer file from iphone to pc.
Hi there - this solution should work when there is no internet. The phone connects to your computer via cable. However, if your iPhone is optimized, then you would need the internet to get your photos back down to your phone. It is a challenge!
Hoping this was helpful.

Where do I get this USB cable? I did not receive one with my iPhone.🤔
Hi there - you should have received a USB cable with your iPhone. You can buy one at Best Buy, Walgreens, the Apple Store and more. The USB Cable connects into the wall plug so you can charge it. Sometimes people don't know that their charging cable IS the USB cable.
Hoping this helps!
Cheers!

@@Pixologie Thank You!
Was this your stupid question of the week? 😆 I actually thought maybe I needed a ‘ special’ cable to do this☺️
Not at all! I get this question a lot! Cheers!
@@Pixologie Except APPL does not even give you a cable to charge the phone. You have to go buy your own.
Oh Leslil - That stinks about the traditional charger! You do get a Lightning to USB C cable and you’ll need to provide your own USB C charging brick. I can plug my lightning to USBC cable to my computer but not everyone has the USBC ports yet.
Hi, may I know what camera setting below should I set for my Iphone 15 Pro if I want to transfer my phone photos to my pc ( Microsoft window). I got a messy output transfer. Help pls!
Setting A?
Camera Capture: set to Most Compatible
ProRaw & Resolution Control: To turn on (green button will be displayed)
Pro Default : to set to JPEG Max
Setting B?
Camera Capture: Most Compatible
ProRaw & Resolution Control: To turn off
Once ProRaw & Resolution Control is turn off, automatically the setting wont display Pro Default option at all.
Which setting above is applicable for my case? Or if u have other better suggestion besides the two mentioned above? Thanks!
I m mot a professional photographer wont be able to do masdive editing. However i hope to get the best quality of pic with minimal edit and hassle free photo transfer using Microsoft Windoe
* wont be able to do massive editing
Hi Lee -
- Set Camera Capture to Most Compatible
- Also you can change one more setting to be sure you get JPGs on your computer. In the Photos Settings - scroll to the bottom and select "Automatic" for Transfer to Mac or PC. This means photos will be copied over as JPGs.
I don't deal with ProRaw & Resolution settings. I am sorry. If this relates to having RAW Camera Files, I don't use them. Too complicated and the file sizes are huge.
I'm sorry I can't be more help on those settings.
Cheers!
Mollie
Hi, thank you for your reply!
Am i right to understand that I shall set the Camera Setting to Setting B then (other than photo setting you have suggested to change to ‘Automatic’)? Thanks
You are welcome!
just found you video. You appear to be quite knowledgeable but found you comments on Live photos extrememly confusing. Do you check it or not? Are one point you say check then you say to turn off. Could you please provide clarification.
Hi Gary - the Live Photo Preserve Setting should be on - the slider moved over to the right, so the slider box is green.
When this is on, your iPhone will preserve the last setting of your camera.
Therefore, when you are using your camera and turn Live Photos off there, your iPhone will preserve the Off setting in your camera. Hoping this helps!

Is there a way to change all the HEIC files to JPG? I just found out about the heic today. Is this going to be an issue or should I just keep them as is. I need to clean up my phone because it is full and I want to add them to a Jamaica folder on FB albums.
Hi again - You can use XNView to convert HEIC Files if you want. Currently some websites won't upload HEIC files for photo book creation or online storage. If you are going to simply keep them on your computer, then HEIC is fine. We recommend using Forever Permanent Storage which currently does not allow for HEIC files to be uploaded.
Here's a video that includes dealing with HEIC files: ruclips.net/user/liveAvayodJli5g?si=u2FJ4pU_9bbLf7FV
Cheers!
Mollie
You can make a file folder on your phone under your files and then copy each one of the HEIC photos over into that folder. By doing that the photo will now become a JPEG. Keep in mind that you have to do it one photo at a time. I tried grouping a bunch to transfer and it didn’t work. I don’t know why Apple has to be so difficult.
Apple sure does make things difficult!!
