I like your method of connecting them better than other methods I’ve seen. Others leave visible stitching on one side of the project (light colored yarn visible in dark squares, and vice versa), which leaves you with a blanket with a right side and a wrong side, which bothers me. Your method makes the connecting stitches invisible, making both sides attractive.
My only suggestion would be for the crocheting. To make tighter stitches by using a smaller hook, like 4.5 or 5mm perhaps. Because the 6mm J hook made very lose open holes allowing you to see the fiberfill right through the stitches.
Not only would it be more *attractive* if the fiberfill wasn’t visible, but it would also keep the fiberfill from poking out. In my experience, if you can SEE the fiber, then parts of it *will* start coming out. I’ve seen that even with sewn fabric plush animals. One TEENY little hole in a seam and the fiber is just determined to come through it.😉

Oh my - that is a totally smart suggestion!! It did bother me seeing the fiber - I will use a smaller hook. Thank you!!

Just a thought: why not finish the first square with a row of SC and then start the second square from there so you don't have any tails except at the end? No squares to accidentally come apart.

Hmmmm... I hadn't thought of that. I guess for the color change you could do the magic knot. I may have to play around with that possibility! Thanks!!

Awesome pattern ! How would you suggest cleaning / washing this playmat considering the fluff inside each square ?

I know .... I thought of the same thing. I have washed afghans before on delicate and let them air dry. I already gave this one away as a gift, I will have to make a small one and test it. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them!

Can fiberfill be put in the washing machine ( in a pillowcase perhaps) to be laundered? ty

In a pillow case is a great idea! Then I would line dry them.

I apologize, I didn't measure it before I gave it as a gift. If I remember correctly, it was approximately 45" square.
