I just decided to start learning to crochet today and I’m in my “research” phase so finding accurate videos with great tips and teachers is pretty tough when you have no idea what your looking for so i just wanted to say that you are a literal Godsend for not only linking multiple videos with good teachers and easy beginner projects but also providing your own helpful feedback. You pretty much just cut a huge chunk of time out of my research phase 😂

My granddaughter just told me she wanted to learn to crochet this summer. Just like y'all, how do you start? Thanks for the help.

    • @Ykibmh
      @Ykibmh 2 месяца назад

@@aneumeier4433 hey, I started a bit ago with a friend of mine, who taught me how to chain (and gave me free materials lol), but you don't need much to get started.
You need materials, but just like 2 balls of yarn and 2 crochet hooks (one for you and your granddaughter) should be enough. A thicker yarn would be easier to work with, and look at the packaging of the yarn to see what size hook you would need. Then you can find tutorials on yt for chaining, single crochet, slip stitch, double crochet and half double crochet (all US terms btw) and then once you've mastered the stitches, you can find some simple projects to work on.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

I’m a self-taught crocheter with over 30 years experience, and I can’t wait to try some of these! I’m trying to finish about 3-4 WIPs before I start anything else, but when I do, I think it will be the baby blankets. I have about 13 totes and 2-3 vacuum bags of yarn I need to use up, and I think baby blankets are just the thing! (I get bored very quickly with anything larger!😂) Thanks for sharing these!

My first crochet project was a no-sew amigurumi whale. I followed a tutorial by Little World of Whimsy and I learned the best way to make a magic ring (still use her technique) and I learned about increases, decreases and counting stitches. He was lumpy and funny looking but I was so proud of him. He now sits at my husband’s desk at work!
I’ve since made other amigurumi projects as well as 3 cardigans, a shrug and I’m part way through another 3 WIPs.
I’ve fallen deeply in love with crochet garments but that amigurumi tutorial was an amazing place to start ❤

I learned how to crochet 8 months ago by watching YT videos. I work 2 jobs, married and have children so that means I don’t have a lot of time to spare to spend doing my new found hobby. Over half of channels you mentioned, I’m already a subscriber. You didn’t mention Bagoday. She has a tutorial almost everyday. Needless to say it can be overwhelming because I tend to start a new project when they put out new videos. I have so many WIPs. Thank you for your helpful tips video. I feel like you narrow it down for me. I love the variety of your examples. 🙏

bagoday tends to be more intermediate beginner rather than absolute beginner. what i mean is she puts out beginner projects, but they're more on the intermediate side of beginner rather than just foundation stitch beginner.

@@xtrmsleep I think I consider myself an intermediate beginner. I’ve done 4 beanies from BOD tutorials and also beanies from Juan the Yarn Addict tutorials. I like to make blankets because I can crochet and watch TV at the same time. However, one blanket takes a month to two moths. With all the tutorials I watch from different creators I get overwhelmed. That’s my problem. I keep buying yarns but I don’t have time to use them. 😩🥲

You are a true GEM!! Not only did you teach me how to attempt amigurumi (and succeed--even when that was my first real crochet project), you also have the beautiful spirit to show your imperfections to the world. This is so encouraging for beginners! I'm trying to start branching out into clothing, toying with Tunisian crochet, maybe knitting. I know that you have such a generous spirit that you will share all you know and connect people to other great instructors. I cannot begin to thank you enough for making the world a brighter, kinder, and more fun place.

I LOVE Hooked By Robin, & her 3D heart (2 of them you crochet together round some stuffing) was the first non-basic crochet thing I made!!! (like, I'd do mini rugs & doormats for my toys using simple stitches for practise but this was the first which involved more than one basic stitch). Not only did it give me an adorable item (think like a Build-A-Bear heart for a plushie), but using the different stitches taught me how to make rounded shapes, which is great for ears & other things. I'm so glad you featured her twice!!! I'm subbed to her (she was one of my first crochet subs), & she always has something new to teach, & is so clear & concise with her instruction.

I love recommending Bubble even for people who don't speak English very well. It's perfect to learn all the basics for amigurumi. Sc, dec, inc, magic ring, all in there. And so well explained AND shown. 👍 What I always find hard for beginners is if you can't clearly see what the person is doing. It's not even a language barrier. I already crocheted from a Finnish tutorial not knowing a single word in Finnish but it was so well filmed that it was idiot-proof. And I always felt like Bubble the catster does that, too. You don't have to know English, you don't have to know what a sc is, you still can follow perfectly fine.

      😊 Hello
I've been TRYING to learn how to crochet for a little over a month. So far I have perfected a slip knot and I can chain stitch. 😏 A nice older woman, probably in her late sixties, TRIED to teach me to single stitch. My fingers and brain are very uncoordinated. However, like I said I did figure out how to do the chain stitch. And that was a huge accomplishment for ME. AND THAT IS THE REASON I WANT TO CONTINUE! (Didn't mean to yell at you, if that is the assumption you got). If you were to suggest just one of those 20, for a super uncoordinated person like me, and my brain issues, which do you think would be the one for me to start with first, in your opinion? (And then maybe next and next)
I REALLY want to start this new hobby. I think it would be really good for me to have something new in my life besides jigsaw puzzles. And I'm home all the time since I'm a stay-at-home mom\wife.
Thanks for helping this crazy lady😜
BTW... I love watching all of your RUclips videos!❤

I've learned myself to crochet 17 years ago, bc of that I made a lot (a lot a lot) mistakes, but I learned a lot as well. I think 4 years ago I found out that there is a whole world on YT for crochet, so woooo for me. What I like the most is that I see a pattern and learn that first and than make it my own by making difference things in it. And yes, still making mistakes, but I like that. And now I watched in 2 days time 20+ videos from you and I learned again more things. I can not read a pattern, I tried so many times. I can only learn things by watching or do it myself (always been like that, with everything) I like this list, bc I can see what I can do next, maybe I will like to make Amigurumi, bc now it is not my go to. Thanks for your videos. I will come back to them, but for now I will finishing my (self made and thought) vest-thing 😂😊

I have always wanted to crochet a cardigan but I'm a bit nervous. My girlfriend made one in about 6 months the thing had stretched to twice the size 😂 I'm not sure what yarn she used, I think probably just some random acrylic and almost everything in her stash is worsted weight. I'm afraid I'll spend all that time on it and it will stretch like hers. I've been meaning to ask you something. My daughter wants me to make her some of those beautiful bunny ears you made a few years back with the beautiful flowers. I remember you saying they didn't turn out quite the way you had intended. I'd love to see you revisit that pattern because I think something like that might be fairly beginner friendly.
