Just another comment, the Angel not flying makes sense in the lore. They move fast, but rarely actually use their wings as more than decoration or intimidation, or a means of balancing once they're frozen in place. Plus, freezing in the middle of the air is a sure way to go crunching to the ground.
the end is a masterclass of the difference between an instant and a sorcery. eradicate is literally an old kamigawa uncommon that saw zero play with basically the same textbox minus the timing restriction of the card.
In regards to the Fourth Doctor, he makes food because he loves Jelly Babies. It's very much a flavor thing
Failure!
I am the Lorax I speak for the trees,
How can standard be healthy full of Rakdos disease?
Where's my hydras, elves and treefolk to boot?
I live for a world where they yell "I AM GROOT."
I dream of a world where Crim sweats in his sleep, the return of Nissa this time with hexproof a slight power creep.
In short I hope my plight can be seen,
I hope that someday my lands tap for Green.
Go Green!
👏 bravo!!!!! Encoré!!!
Rankle's Prank is so close to being a Pox card, just without the land destruction which is sometimes the most compelling part, but I think a lot of decks will still love that much resource denial
Thank you GF crew for posting the podcast on Labor Day! You all put out the most and best mtg content quite literally in the entire world. Thank you thank you for all the work you do!! It improves my life greatly 😊😊😊
7:10 I always love reminders of cost and effects of cards talked about since i tend to listen and not watch the video so being able to know the card is great help. You do this almost every time and i appreciate that.
In reference to them talking about the trading aspect of this game. I made a decision Long ago to never trade again because I lost so much value because I got scammed by other players. It turned me into the player that just wants to beat you on the other side of the table and I might shake your hand. I love this game. But most of the patrons are complete tools. To anyone that watches these pod casts or follows magic in general. One good tip I can offer you. Never and I mean NEVER. Trade lands. Lands are and always will be the most expensive part of your deck. If you have lands. Hold on to them because you’ll find out real quick that other players are not willing to part with them. There is a reason for that.
Regarding trading, it's still very much a thing. At my fnm, basically everyone brings a trade binder and people trade between rounds all the time.
I think we can acknowledge we have local trading options while accepting the overall % of card transfers due to trades is at an all time low
@@JStack Yea, I agree. I just don't think I trust the sentiment that trading is over from Seth who only goes to like 2-3 events a year.
@@DylanHunter64 Do people usually pull out phones and compare prices for exact equal value or is it more whatever goes
@@JonReid01 There's an app people use where you start adding cards against other cards and it will calculate the difference in value. People usually will look through binders finding other cards to make the trade more even in value.
The summary for Doctor Who you guys are looking for is this. The Doctor and his companion visit a place/time in the universe, hijinks ensue.
Anyone notice crim completely changed the color of fox bodyguard? Went from white to red. Lol
Mono Red Aggro decks apparently live rent free in Crim's head even when the deck isn't good.
If I remember correctly, this isn't the first time he's accidentally confused a non-red aggressive card as a mono red card.
@@jasonkorf7700sometimes you have. Fun with a deck that isn't "good" fun things. Live rent free in your. Head. Pretty simple
The Tenth Doctor had a few companions. Rose, Donna, and Martha Jones were the ones I remember off the top of my head.
multi story ones was those three. Captain Jack, Will and Mickey were around for one or two
You can play any color you want as long as it includes blue and a dozen counterspells.
I think the part about The End that impressed me that it doesnt seem like anyone is talking about is the fact that its black exile removal at instant speed that has an upside that mitigates for the cost. There's been plenty of exile removal in white for a while, and that was a big downside for black removal comparatively. So, I think that's the baseline that pushes The End into usefulness, with the memoricide text being secondary (though hitting the yard is also quite useful).
I watched several fairy decks & my takeaway from it is Talion is WAY better than people thought & that you can play the same faerie deck as control or as aggro depending on the matchup, but you never really want to play it hit-for-hit midrange style.
I like how unique it is, but it seems like a low A tier/high B tier deck to me.
Edit: Worth remembering that there aren't a huge number of flyers in standard either -- so that matters for this deck too.
Pre-release weekend was awesome. I pulled an Agatha's soul cauldron, grave pact, and a virtue of persistence. Let's just say I won a lot. Lol
I pulled the mythic dragon! And it helped me get 4th out of 30 peeps xD
My takeaway is that we're mostly just going to see the best Sheoldred deck shift, and I'll still not be playing Standard while it's around.
And you expected anything else? The meta doesn't shift much until rotation.
I predict Sheoldred roles, Sheoldred cookies, Sheoldred knights and Sheoldred Faeries all being a thing to go with Sheoldred Esper Legends, Sheoldred monoblack midrange, Sheoldred black aggro, Sheoldred Dimir midrange, Sheoldred Esper control and Sheoldred Rakdos sacrifice.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA TOO SPOT ON
Like bro I have more trouble vs control decks and aggro than I have vs shelly like bro run removal if u don't use removal in ur deck and die to a unit then it's ur fault.... Aggro and control is a diff issue stupid mono Red and scumbag counter spells are a diff issue cause u can't build a deck to compete with both
I love how Sheoldred, a card that literally does nothing if you just spend a go for the throat on it, has become the format bogeyman. Like if the bogeyman is a 4 mana card that dies to removal, I consider it a very good format, and I'll take it every day over a format where the best deck is ramp ramp ultimatum or goldspan epiphany takes all the turns
Rankle's Prank feels like it should see play it's good enough that I could use a copy for a EDH at least.
The End is different from Eradicate as it hit's black creatures which is huge and is an instant and hits planeswalkers and has reduced cost when you're low which probably makes it playable I don't know that I believe it saves you against aggro decks I think if you're on 5 in an aggro match up and your 4 drop hits one creature you're probably dead anyways but I buy that it might not get sideboarded out completely against aggro because it still hits what you're worried about and is still instant speed removal.
Trading makes sense when cards are worthless or borderline worthless. When card value is a big deal(and becomes how Wizards sells their product ie Masters sets, Secret Lairs, Reserve listing and other methods to limit availability) trading became scamming because cards cost too much unless both people used online sources to check(at which point you could just order them online) and therefore is just bad for the average person.
43:39 my trade binder has just gotten smaller over the years. I have some fetch lands, some alternate art versions/foils. Mostly stuff that is over $10. Some playable staple-y stuff. Some hard to find tokens and emblems
I transformed my trade binder into a collection binder, no reason to have a trade binder when people at my LGS would never trade.
I sort of did the opposite and pulled the tradeable stuf out of the collection binder. I do have some things that I just have and dont trade i guess too like Foil Thieves Auction lol! @@Dunhilina
I have 60 binders of cards. Hardly touch paper anymore so I don’t know why I am holding onto them.
I think The End can really make people change the way they build decks. For me, the busted thing about it is The End is in black, same color as Beseech the Mirror. The idea that you can fetch The End and never spend more than 4 mana to have the same effect is very efficient.
I love Richard so much
What made you say that? Lol
I also love Richard so much
I agree… but why does he think chickens can’t fly?
@@chrisofkentmany people never see chickens in their life. and given that chickens rarely just fly (& aren't very good at flying on top), some people think they just can't altogether. I guess.
This comment can be interpreted as legitimate love or sarcasm. Which makes it S tier bait.
"Whats the pay off for all the rats" Impact Tremors and Raid Bombardment were both reprinted in this set. Either one of those will make having a handful of 1/1s extremely lethal extremely fast. Oh and they also gave us other rat cards paired in red? Ya I think that was the thing they were going for. It black red aggro rats. Just playing the tokens will take out half of the other player's health before attacking. And if they destroy your enchantment, at least yous till have a swarm of rats to attack them with.
There are a lot more than 15 seasons of Doctor Who. It's been on TV almost continuously for 50 years.
Almost continuously apart from a 16 year gap lol
There was other stuff besides the tv show but it had really fell off before Eccleston and the relaunch
@@Dan22293 It did fall off but the relaunch is pretty awful. Don't get me wrong there have been some very good performances, but the story telling doesn't hold up to the first doctors.
@@stormycat0905 yeah fell off was a poor choice of words, my bad. I just mean it went quiet for a long while.
Crim might want to ask Phil how to pronounce Totentanz.
Tulsa Time. Why does that card make me remember that song???
Crim is the right kind of dr who fan. I tio my hat to you.
My group trades all the time. We use apps to ensure we're trading for dollar value so that everyone walks away happy and getting their value from the trade.
hey, I really like stickers! the trick is to give your commander a funny name, then your opponents won't ever dare destroy it :)
Black instant: Exterminate! (Daleks)
Haven’t watched Dr. Who in many years but will always have an affinity for it. Even have some sleeves that are blue with the Tardis. I remember watching Dr. Who in the early 80s.
I want to make a Bant Deck that I'm gonna call Fertility Clinic that will use twining twinns to exile the gruff triplets...turning them into quintuplets...lol😂😂😂
I'm with Crim I can't wait to see the 11th doctor and Amy pond also would love to see the pandorica and Rory as a Roman soldier 👌
The flavour for these Dr Who cards are on point with the lore so far.
Why is there never time for fishtail??? It’s my favorite part!
On the trading topic: in third world countries (south america for example) we trade a lot because our economies can't support a hobby so expensive at times, so instead of buying we trade to get new cards. So yeah, trading is a very real thing, outside of the US at least.
On the trading topic, the thing is player collections have been decimated because of extremely poor decisions from higher ups (driven by greed). First of all, keeping a binder full of modern cards isn't wise anymore because your cards are guaranteed to lose value. So players are now encouraged to dump / sell the staples they don't use before they become bulk. Secondly, trading becomes insanely dumb when the borderless mythic you opened at the prerelease is worth the exact same as an uncommon, and when your playset of Karn Liberated isn't worth 1 copy of The One Ring. Why would anyone engage in trading? The values don't make sense because the secondary market is extremely unhealthy right now.
This is not a good thing at all because trading and collecting are essential aspects and major appeals of any worthwhile TCG. It's the reason why MTG lasted for 3 decades. If trading / collecting disappears completely, people will turn to other TCGs and they're already doing so with F&B, Sorcery and Lorcana etc.
That card not being called "Rankle's Prankles" is this set's greatest sin
I see trades all the time where I play, but they are generally "value" based.
my friends are always trying to be like, just take whatever i dont care, but I make them trade dollar value not just let me take all their stuff lol
@@-homerow- That's happened to me once or twice, and yeah, it can be a bit awkward to navigate. Like, I will gladly accept free stuff, but I'm not trying to take advantage of you...
I've been playing MBC in Standard with Phyrexian Arena, ~27 lands with cards like Blast Zone, Mishra's, etc. Corrupt. Rankle's Prank goes along great with manlands, Arena, and Corrupt.
The end is so good and is a beautiful artwork.
35:31 it's perfect for a healthy meta. The End will ensure that decks have to have multiple ways to win!
One comment about the trading part. I live in Mexico, where while we have access to some online services, we depend on trading as our main source of carda
The more I think about it, the more I think that x4 Sheoldred will still be meta, just because of how good she is vs non-black decks.
I've been playing with a Eriette prison deck in explorer that has felt really good against Sheoldred.
I still go to biweekly trade meet ups. Saves us all money and we don't need to find people really because we know there will be people there.
you make a food because the Fourth Doctor was always asking people if they wanted a Jelly belly
There is innkeeper in the set. It's the XXUU enchantment. Seth always says enchantments are harder to remove than creatures but when there's an innkeeper enchantment, now the card doesn't exist or it's "weird" and "fringe". 😅
Loving the early uploads!
whats up! I used to be an L1 judge but now im just a casual shark trying to play games with my friends where we are all on the same level
I want to see the Jailer main decked. Definitely agree that the End is going to shake things up. Pull teeth in the humans decks, soldiers…
Crim your cap will show up when you step on it like a lego
I just started JJK last week and its really really good. About to finish season one and hoping 2 is just as badass
Is there a way to make an opponents land a creature in standard or historic? Because casting The End on a basic is very sweet vs certain decks.
Can somebody explain why every second person is obsessed with faeries?
I get it that people like them, and I don’t say them shouldn’t, but it seems statically a lot.
Is it because they like the flavor or the mechanics, and if they are not the seem as lorwyn faeries?
It's because of the overlap between people going online to learn more about the card game and people who like feeling smart about their gameplay decisions by playing with a lot of reactive and instant-speed effects. (intended without any value judgment here)
The only end for Shelly is a ban. Card is fine everywhere except standard
Fine by me. Standard is what I play. If we're being real, Shelly was already kinda mid in standard even before WOE.
And I've noticed since this new season started at least in Bo1 almost nobody is playing mono black anymore. Soldiers, RDW, & UW control are running the Bo1 show at the moment.
@dr.zoidberg8666 I going to respectfully acknowledge that we are both probably good enough at Magic to understand that Shelly is absolutely not fine in standard. I know she can feel powerful, but she just keeps so much out of a format that should be constantly changing with sets rotating in and out of it.
@@tedybear6592 That's what folks say, but lemme tell ya: I kept track all last month & I did not lose a single game when Shelly hit the board on the oponents side.
In fact, I've been getting my back blown out these last few days because my deck clowns black & literally nobody is playing mono black rn.
@dr.zoidberg8666 playing a deck specifically good against black, and then not loosing to black is unfortunately not a good argument.
@@tedybear6592 New set is out... guess what nobody is playing? Mono black.
In fact CGB just tried mono black with 4 Shellys & almost rage quit the whole stream after getting his cheeks clapped 3 times in a row.
Makes me wonder if we need a card in the standard meta to just house the best card in the format…perhaps the best card in the format is a “lil” bit pushed.
Realm-Scourcher Hellkite and Agatha of the Vile Cauldron, a single red pip pinger.
Does anyone have a link or the name of the bottle Crim is using? 👀
Unless I’m wrong about this, wouldn’t a doctors companion just be an auto include into Morophon?
On the video where they announced the DW Universes Beyond, I'm fairly certain they said it wouldn't work with Morophon or Orvar for one reason or another.
An Morophon now have a Doctor's Companion? 😄
trads happen on commander nights
So many crazy enchantments in WoE, probably good that Invoke Despair was banned or else the whole meta would centralize and tighten around that even further
it's a Stone statue
I mean what can I say, If they don't ban Sheoldred from standard themselves I'm gonna ban her from the game myself with The End.
Using The End and the Stone Brain could make for some brain dead game play for opponents.
I feel with faerie we r getting the good spells now and when lorwin set come we r getting the good faeries
Black gets stronger... cool... Sadge
Do trades still happen? The fantasy football league run by my LGS employee is literally called "Got trades"
Make Seth do a reaction video to one Dr Who episode per doctor!
To be more specific: I suggest only doing the reboot (mercifully sparing him eight doctors), and going with Dalek for the Ninth (to introduce the Daleks), Blink for the Tenth (because standalone that created a classic), I'd count the 50th anniversary episode towards Eleventh (it covers so much), and... hmmm. Not sure for the last two, it does get a bit meta-heavy.
Lobotomy is the original effect “The End” emulates. It’s funny to me these guys don’t know the older cards.
Has there ever been a tribe that worked in standard without a lord creature? Ever? I suspect we'll get the faerie lord in a few sets because right now, as much as i want them to be, faeries are not there.
Crim has the anime antenna!
I will try the truths.
hasn't there been a "The End" style card twice in recent standard? and it never saw any play.
I remember Eradicate from back in Kamigawa-era Standard, but that was 20 years ago (and The End is upgraded in several ways). Are there more recent versions I'm forgetting?
@@MTGGoldfishPodcast I looked it up and I had Necromentia (1BB M21) and Unmoored Ego (1UB Guilds of Ravnica) in mind.
I then realized that The End works as a removal spell, which those other two do not, so it's definitely different enough to be more viable in more match-ups.
my bad.. horrible case of reading the card explains the card..
The Thirteenth Doctor partners with Morophon for all 5 colors
So long will it take for Standard to become pure midrange sludge again?
Dimir control to copy [[The End]]; ban your opponents entire deck?
According to Crim, anything he plays is the truth. Apparently, the man just can't miss with any of his ideas.
Maybe Weeping Angel is weeping because it can't fly.
I adore Doctors you control have Horsemanship
It hurts me no one knows doctor who on this podcast, especially old doctor who. It would be nice to have The Professor on the podcast when the entire set is spoiled to talk about it
The 4th Doctor makes food because his character in the show always has a British candy called Jelly Babies and is always eating them or offering them to others
I still trade, but i trade based on TCGPlayer values.
Crim is correct about rankle's prank. I keep trying to warn you all. That card is for REAL.
We better get ALL the Dr's. If 13th got a card and her seasons were the WORST rated, WORST watched and did the WORST then every doctor before should get a card. I want the War Dr! No way should they not have John Hurts doctor have a card!
People actually complaining about the most balanced praetor ever printed. Wild to me. It's a 10 turn clock, it's really not that serious.
Can also copy hexmage in gy
Was Cardsphere bought out? By what company?
They announcement says they are shutting down, it doesn't sound like they were bought out to me.
Man, crim's opinions were basically completely useless to form an opinion of what standard is going to be like, because he was too busy making a shrine to black cards in the corner to even look at what is going on for other decks.
I love how they purposely have a dummy like crim that always makes people facepalm by sounding so ignorant and confident at the same time lol he’s like the Joey on friends, full house, or yugioh. He’s the Joey of the podcast lol
I think he's on point about The End though
I don't think he's stupid, he's just inexperienced compared to older magic players and he knows what he enjoys
Holy moly he actually is Joey. Cept just not as entertaining lmao
The end with Chandra possibly 8 cards gone.
More Doctor WHo lore, all the Saga are named after espiodes
This is the End
Also I just don’t think these cards will be that impactful for new standard. The old stuff is just still way better than what just came out and I don’t care how synergistic it is. Sheoldread is still a card and most of the new stuff. Just doesn’t beat her.
The answer for her in pre woe will still be there, now it will be much easier to make her be gone.
The thing is yes there are answers to Sheoldred, but the best answers are typically played in the same decks that play Sheoldred. Meanwhile, Aggro decks have struggled to deal with her efficiently and that's not gonna change with Wilds.
It will always be Twitter in my mind.
No one trades this days, they just check how much TCG mid is and do that
Nerf black into the ground
Can Morophon use a Doctors Companion?
As far as we know, yes.
It cannot, no.
Why wouldn’t it
@@DragonAttack515 because WotC doesn't want to incidentally buff all changelings and they included a rule that your Doctor commander for Doctor's Companion needs to be exactly a Time Lord Doctor with no other creature types.
End of Sheoldred? More like the end of Atraxa, Emperor, Etali and annoying creatures and planeswalkers, but yes you can hit Sheoldred.
bad wolf
listening to them not udnerstand even the most basicc shit about Dr. Who when discussing the cards is hilarious.
Faeries did not impress me. Sure it had all these control elements but at the end of the day their wincon is still a bunch of very weak creatures that are terrible top decks and that are easily outclassed or answered. While og faerie was strong because Bitterblossom made so much power for no mana investment. I mean they also had literal Thoughtseize, Spellstutter Sprite and Cryptic Command lol. It was a very unfair deck and nothing else came close to it. So it's a good thing that Faeries are not so strong.
Screw anyone that says "unwritten rule" if its a rule make it a rule and have it writtenn.
Sheoldred is the definition of a format warping card. It needs to go.
Do an episode where everyone impersonates everyone for a few minutes.
CRIMGE
