Apparently at Shibuya station there is a bronze statue of the real Hachickō which is the same station he waited for his owner at. It’s true and there’s photographic proof that the bronze on the top of his head has worn down over the years simply from the amount of head pats his statue is given each day. Absolutely heartbreaking.

This was indeed based off the real Hachikō that stayed loyal to his professor and died on 1935. There are various memorials such as a bronze statue placed in Shibuya station where he waited. He's somewhat a famous cultural icon being utilized in Japanese media and even in Western media for the character Fry's dog Seymor in Futurama.

If what i remember Hachi is an adaptation of a true story.
The real story happens in Japan, and the owner of Hachiko(the dog's real name, wich means "8th Prince") was a Japanese University proffesor who took the train everyday to his work.
The Dog would accompany his master to the station, then once he was in the Train and the train left the station, he would go back Home, and coming back in the evening, when he heard the train's whistle to welcome his Master.
Until one day, the dog's Master died(from a Brain hemorragea), never coming back.
But the Dog, not knowing what happened..., simply waited, and waited, and waited for his master.
The Proffesor's familly tried to take the dog in, but he would always give them the slip to go back to the station in the evening and wait...
The Dog would go to the station every evening, and he would do it not for days or weeks, but for YEARS.
9 years in fact, Hachiko patiently waited for his master
After those events, the city council decided to place a statue of the Dog at the station, as a testament to a Dog's Undying Loyalty to his Master, it became an urban legend, even tho this story happened somewhere in the 20-30's, the statue of Hachiko is still there at the station to this day.
The Dog and his story became a Nation wide story, and an example of Fidelity , Friendship and Love, celebrated by all.
People from all over the country would come and see the dog and take pictures with him and pet him.
Hachiko died at the age of 11yro in 1935.
For a while people thought he died from Old age, but some analysis in 2011 revealed that the dog was sick, he had a terminal stage cancer and an heart disease.
After his death, his pelt was embalmed and put in the Tokyo's Nationla Muiseum of Sciences and Natural History, and his remains where incinerated and the ashes put next to his Master's grave, so that they could be reunited once more.
Unfortunatly the statue, like many others a the time, was made out of Bronze, and was melted and used for ammo during WWII.
But after the war the statue was Remade and replaced where it belonged, the new statue was sculpted by the Son of the previous sculptor who made the 1st statue.
The statue became a popular meeting spot for people in the Shibuya station.
Each year ever since, on 8th of May, there is a ceremony around the statue, where hundreds of people gathers to give an hommage to the dog.
Another statue was made in the train station in the county of Akita in 2004, where we see an imagining of Hachiko and his Master reuniting.

For years I've avoided this movie, because I heard the original story shortly before this version of the movie came out. The movie was highly recommended so I knew it would tear me apart to watch it. This week I happened across it in my You Tube feed with two of my favorite Canadian (I know Cassie lives in the states, but she'll always be Canadian) reactors watching it together, both of whom I watch because of how genuine your reactions are. Watching it through your channels gave me the chance to experience the emotion of the movie, while giving me support for the emotional journey because when it got to be too much I could switch focus from the movie and my own intense emotional reaction to observing your reaction instead, which softened it a little. I wound up watching it on both of your channels and got to see the slight differences in how you edited it that gave me some more insight - like the difference in which lines were the focus when the daughter is speaking to Hachi after her father's death. Thank you for this.

That's why, when you look at the equipment in official agility competitions (and similar), you'll see that it's all painted in blue and yellow stripes to make it easier for the dogs to see it.

If she's anything like me (at least, what I'm like recently), I can imagine her really appreciating that company...! I've grown to really appreciate tearjerkers although for most of my life I had actually avoided them and didn't react much anyway, BUT, somewhat recently when I was about 35 years there was ONE particular movie that strongly triggered tears from me (THAT "first kryptonite" of mine happened to be Pixar's "Inside Out"). That was also when I noticed that feel-good brain endorphins can actually come along with tears (which did surprise me, when I noticed I was actually wanting MORE movies that triggered that effect in me!). It took a few YEARS for me to find another that "worked on me" (next one was "Interstellar"). Then I did eventually find a good handful.
But THIS one... oh my God. I didn't even see the whole movie (I don't have easy access to it, so my first view was just a reaction; one with good complete movie segments but still "just" a reaction video)... and it STILL made me cry at least three times during my first watch of that reaction video. And the second and third times I saw reactions or even just thought about it, those were some of THE hardest cries of my life.
But... believe it or not, I still have yet to cry to a movie WITH someone... but I think I might like to, though!

I just skipped till the end, I wanted to see if you broke as much as I did when I saw this movie. It absolutely obliterated me. 30 year old guy drenched in tears.

I'm a woman, but I have a not-so-stereotypical history (with an interesting twist later on!) when it comes to tearjerkers: For most of my life I never "happened to" cry to virtually anything, and it wasn't until somewhat recently when I was about 35 years old until ONE particular movie strongly triggered tears from me (THAT "first kryptonite" of mine happened to be Pixar's "Inside Out"). That was also when I noticed that feel-good brain endorphins can actually come along with tears (which did surprise me, when I noticed I was actually wanting MORE movies that triggered that effect in me!). So, despite my history of avoiding tearjerkers and/or just not getting affected by them anyway... I started enthusiastically seeking them out!
But I also wondered to myself why I didn't cry even harder than I did, given how objectively sad it was... and I got my answer later that night when I noticed how thoughts of the movie were intruding into my brain AND I finally noticed that I was involuntarily pushing them away (because they were too painful). Knowing very well it's not healthy to "repress" like that... I voluntarily let myself feel and process it... and yeah, that resulted in one of THE hardest cries of my life.

The wife is played by JOAN ALLEN…. Who is remarkable in the brilliant films “PLEASANTVILLE” and “THE CONTENDER”…. You would LOVE both of them!

I have a Shiba Inu, my 4th Shiba. They are the smallest of the Japanese dogs, and the Akita is the biggest. I relate so, so, so much to this film, to Hachi and the bond. There is NOTHING like the connection I have with my Shiba, Mila, my 8-year-old red girl. I am obsessed with her, and I am fortunate that I get to be with her all day every day... and with my Russian Blue girl kitten!
I know this was a tear jerker, but I'm glad you watched it and fell in love with Hachi, too. He looks like a big version of my Shiba... so cute and yes, just as stubborn, but you can't expect a Shiba to be a Retriever. You have to accept them for who they are, quirky but loving and loyal to a fault.
    Love you guys!

I love Simone and Cassie SO much. I was blown away to see you two were working TOGETHER! Then I noticed the film title and I just knew George was somewhere cackling, knowing how much pain you two were going to experience. I may never see an Akita again without hearing Simone sobbing, "We don't deserve dogs!" Still, you MUST work together again. PLEASE!!!

In my city a woman used to sell baby chickens to survive and one day she kept a little one that no one would buy; it gew up to become a black rooster that awaited her outside the cancer clinic but one day in 2020 she went in and didn't make it. Now that rooster lives outside that clinic where the food vendors take care of him, every day from early in the morning till 6pm you can go and visit him (at 6pm he flies to a tree where he sleeps). His name is Martín.

😢oh my god, you broke my heart, Simone, crying like that, it was intense! New you got emotional from other video reactions, but this was like on another level, lol. Like, maybe you were caught off guard that day. Sometimes we're more emotional than usual, and just burst into tears as a way to release all that pile of feelings accumulated.

I am the proud owner of this breed. And I can say that this breed is really the most loyal dogs. But on the other hand, they are also very strange dogs. Their stubborn nature balances this devotion to family and children. It's just that if he doesn't sleep well, he'll ignore you for half the day. Or when he's lying by the front door, he won't move even on command. And I literally have to drag him away. But as I write, their loyalty and devotion to their family and their master is something wonderful.
