The character of McCall is based on a TV character in a 1980s action show also called The Equalizer, starring Edward Woodward ( The 1973 Wicker Man and Tom Weaver from Hot Fuzz) It could also be argued that the 1980 character of McCall was reminiscent of Woodward's legendary TV spy Callan from the 1960s and 1970s
Talk show host and comedian Craig Ferguson once mentioned on his show that the playwright Tom Stoppard said Edward Woodward's name sounds like a fart in a bath.
Martin Csokas is the actor who played the main villain. You probably recognize him from the Lord of the Rings movies where he played Celeborn the Elf, and he also played one of the bad guys in the Bourne Supremacy. He does creepy villains really well.
He was uniquely despicable in "Kingdom of Heaven." Exceptionally intense and almost gleefully dislikable actor - meaning he's good at playing bad guys.
I recommend "Man on Fire", also starring Christopher Walken, Dakota Fanning and Mark Antony. Denzel's character is a former alcoholic and much darker version of The Equalizer.
Almost all of Denzel's roles are iconic. My favorite is the remake of Man On Fire. Some top contenders: Remember The Titans, Malcom X, Training Day, Courage Under Fire, The Siege, Book of Eli, American Gangster, and Flight. Can't think of a bad film Denzel is in.

@@H7654-j4e lol, If you think that’s his best movie, you mustn’t think much of Denzel Washington as an actor. Man on Fire starts off decent enough and when it is quiet and focuses on the relationships, it isn’t half bad. But the second half is a shit show. It’s big, dumb, loud and irritating with all the jump cuts and camera trickery that cements it to a time and certain set of directors. It’s a movie that HAS NOT aged well.

Devil in a Blue Dress is easily his most underrated movie. It also has Don Cheadle in it. Crimson Tide is a good one as well. Fallen is a good horror flick he did.
This movie and its sequel often get overshadowed by other action franchises like John Wick and Jason Bourne, but this is actually my personal favorite - it's so cool and grounded, and Denzel is just so freaking badass. If you want more Denzel, it's a perfect time to highly recommend Inside Man (2006). Spike Lee film. Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, Jodie Foster. I haven't seen a better heist film since. The previous best being Confidence (2003). Should watch that one as well!
If you're looking to dive into Denzel's filmography I'd totally recommend: Glory Fences Flight 2 Guns The Book of Eli American Gangster Remember the Titans Deja Vu

It's probably the only time I've ever been so excited for a third in the series, I hope they've got 3 more behind them.

That actor (Marton Csokas) played Galadriel's consort, Celeborn the Wise; Guy de Lusignan in Kingdom of Heaven; and Yorgi in "xXx" (triple-x) If you don't trust Bill Pullman, then you should watch "While You Were Sleeping", if anything, for the paperboy scene.
Based on the 1985-1989 TV series of the same name. A former CIA operative turned vigilante to help those in need. There is even a CBS reboot that stars Queen Latifah that takes place in the same universe as the film.
17:16 when you guys were talking about the gestures to her face and now they aren't violent, but threatening. I found the best comparison in my head was being threatened with an elastic band. It's almost like his tiny pushes and gestures are more about constantly putting her right on the edge, that edge being actually beating her. Like the elastic band, the threat of being hit with it is sometimes worse than actually being hit, from a physiological point of view at least.
Great movie reaction guys this is an awesome movie! You know that scene where little John is that's called Boston Sand and Gravel And I actually applied to that place when I got out of the US Marine Corps! My great grandfather Gaetano Santarpio also started the oldest pizza shop in East Boston MA back in 1903 called Santarpio's pizzeria! Still family run! The house I live in now is his his daughter's house my grandmother Elvira Santarpio . She passed away in 2016. If you guys ever come to Boston I'll take u guys! Some of his movies I would recommend is The Book of Eli, American Gangster is a BIG must, Training Day, The Magnificent Seven, Unstoppable, and The Taking of Pelham 123. Man on Fire, 2 Guns, The Siege, Crimson Tide, Flight, and Safe House are all great. He's great in every movie though so this is a tough one. Definitely American Gangster should be next though.
Denzel is one of the best dramatic and action stars of our time, but funny one of his heroes was Don Rickles. If you ever get a chance watch him and Don on the Letterman show as he revels in the Rickles insults thrown at him.
If you want to see Keanu Reeves play a bad guy, then you should watch Sam Raimi’s movie called “The Gift” or the movie “The Watcher,” Keanu can definitely play a bad guy… 😃 Love this movie soooo much, great reaction, love Equalizer 1 and 2, you gotta watch “Man on Fire,” “Training Day,” “Book of Eli,” “Deja Vu” all great and amazing movies with Denzel, and of course “Equalizer 2” and when “Equalizer 3” when it finally comes out, can’t wait for the 3rd “Equalizer” to hit the theaters…
TRAINING DAY is amazing!! One of his best roles. On the revenge tip, Man On Fire is also a massively satisfying (and heartbreaking) revenge film. Unstoppable, Tony Scott's last film, is also a great one for you guys to checknout. High-octane action, lots of tension.
I remember this movie getting very mixed reviews, critics calling it a relic or violence porn and not being suited for modern audiences. Seems I'm not a modern viewer, I really like it. And I don't remember having ever seen a bad movie with Denzel Washington. He's just a great actor.
The critics and audiences are correct. It's cheap, predictable revenge porn. Part 2 was just as terrible.... So, sorry... He HAS been in bad movies. In fact, he hasn't been in a good one since Flight... that was 11 years ago.
The Russian killer was in „The Bourne Identity“ as the German assigned agent/hitman. He fought Bourne in his home which blew up due to the gas line being disconnected. Cheers
OMG YES, this is easily, in my opinion, one of Denzel’s best movies, this and the second one, I’m so happy you guys reacted to this😭🙏love your reactions!
George mentioned a comedy where the bad guys think the the good guy is a genius bad-ass but he is in reality just a regular guy. That film already exists; it's called The Man Who Knew Too Little and stars Bill Murray. You guys would love it.
Been waiting a long time for this one, great reaction, another one I think would make a great video is The Accountant. Love your your channel and yes I am subbed . Keep them coming
Devil in a Blue Dress is a fantastic film. Also Remember the Titans, Pelican Brief, Glory, Crimson Tide, and Training Day are some favorites of Denzel films and are in no particular order.
Tom Cruise had Jack Reacher, Keanu Reeves has John Wick, and Denzel Washington has The Equalizer (third movie on the way). All happened around the same time.
This started as an 80's TV series, McCall was a retired CIA agent, who decides to spend his later yrs helping civilians (a bit like the A Team) who need help. Was also made as a film that strung multiple episodes together. This was the first time the character was seen in a full film, but it doesn't give as much of a backstory to him for the films. There's also a current TV series with Queen Latifa as Robin McCall (a female version of the character).
The movie poster you mentioned of Denzel with a toothpick hanging out of his mouth is titled "Training Day", released in 2001. Denzel won the Oscar for best actor, and his co-star, Ethan Hawke, won the Oscar for best supporting actor. Plus the movie itself won various other awards that year. That movie is presently streaming on Netflix.
The Equalizer was a tv show in the 1970's and its tv show again with Queen Latifah playing Robyn McCall. I hope Queen Latifah gets a cameo in the Equalizer 3.
I have a feeling that the two of you will enjoy The Equalizer 2. Denzel and "Papa" Pedro Pascal. If you're interested in more Denzel Washington movies I would suggest Malcolm X (1992), Inside Man (2006) Mo Better Blues (1990) Safe House (2012) American Gangster (2007) The Book of Eli (2010) I feel you can't go wrong with any of those.
So Denzel Washington and I are from the same town in New York. It's call Mount Vernon, and we as Mount Vernon natives. Hold this man very high. He always represents us in the right sense. He never forgets where he came from. That's something that we hold very high with him. We have a lot of celebrities that are from our town. But none as big as he is, we have athletes musicians t. V hosts several other movie stars. But Denzel, he has never forgotten where he came from. If you call out a street from mount vernon, he will point you out and say I remember that's just the type of guy he is. Now this movie the equalizer is actually based off event. Classic TV show from the 1980s. I used to watch with my father. The difference with the robber McCall, there was. He was a former am I 6 agent. He was British and he did the same kind of things he did in this movie cept. It was in New York City, not Boston. He would help the little people, those that the police couldn't help. He would use his special skills to help those who we're basically kind of thrown out by the police because they didn't have enough evidence to help him. It was a good show. I do suggest you guys too, maybe. Check out AA few episodes there. A few episodes on RUclips you could check out but it was a good show. It was a show that I liked my father really loved it. I used to watch you with him as a kid. Cause I'm a child at the 80s, so yeah, very good show and I hope. That you watched the sequels. There are 2 sequels. I'll keep looking through your library
Also fun fact. As a child did the 80s the equalizer originally was a show. I'm sure you guys probably. Did your research on that if not let me tell you about it? It was a show when the 80s they had ran for a good 5 seasons. I believe my father not used to watch It and originally. Robert McCall is a British agent who left the agency move to New York City and used to skills to help the little people. That pretty much law enforcement just push aside 'cause they feels like it's. You know something it's not worth? It had a b***** theme. He drove a jag war he was cool.
Book of Eli is a must for a Denzel watch as well as the rest of his Equalizer movies. I like "Unstoppable" because it is based on a true event. Love you guys reactions and to those unsubbed "Come on guys it is just a click, Simone & George deserve the love"
Marton Csokas played Celeborn, Galadriel's husband and lord of Lothlorien (among other titles...) in the LotR. He also played Quinn in Into the Badlands, which has some of the best sword scenes in a while... This movie was based on an 80's show about a man who can equalize the odds for the common person being bullied by the more powerful. It was called Stingray. I mean The Equalizer. There is another show on CBS right now in an alternate universe where McCall is played by Queen Latifah. Yes, American money is all green (-ish) and no, Simone, you can't have anything nice... even if it is a nice lunchroom.... By the way, can you shapeshift? 'Cause you know, I'll have to tell the Church if you can.... You two are so fun to watch!
Despite his spot on Eastern European accent, Marton Csokas (the actor playing Teddy the Regulator) is actually from New Zealand and normally speaks with that accent. He's done a lot of things. I know you've seen him in Lord of the Rings, but I can't think of what else you saw him in. Honey is one of the best natural antibiotics ever. Bacteria just doesn't grow in it. Smearing boiled honey on cuts and scrapes to keep them from getting infected is a technique that is thousands of years old. And it works. Bill Pullman was the villain of "Ruthless People" though that was a comedy and he wasn't a very good villain. I mean, Pullman was great, but his character was an incompetent villain.
The Equaliser is one of my favourite films. I've watched it quite a few times and I love the way Denzel plays his character so well. I've watched the 2nd one a few times too and I can't wait for the 3rd.
What's the last book you finished?
House on the Borderland by William Hope Hodgson. very good.
Finally read the Dark Forest books last week.

That actor (Marton Csokas) played Galadriel's consort, Celeborn the Wise; Guy de Lusignan in Kingdom of Heaven; and Yorgi in "xXx" (triple-x)
If you don't trust Bill Pullman, then you should watch "While You Were Sleeping", if anything, for the paperboy scene.
They showed him building electronics which I assumed he used to take over the controls of the car. Which is why he could do it with a remote.
Denzel is one of the best dramatic and action stars of our time, but funny one of his heroes was Don Rickles. If you ever get a chance watch him and Don on the Letterman show as he revels in the Rickles insults thrown at him.
You both were born to create this channel and give the masses tons of joy and laughter while reacting to these movies with you :)
If you want to see Keanu Reeves play a bad guy, then you should watch Sam Raimi’s movie called “The Gift” or the movie “The Watcher,” Keanu can definitely play a bad guy… 😃
Love this movie soooo much, great reaction, love Equalizer 1 and 2, you gotta watch “Man on Fire,” “Training Day,” “Book of Eli,” “Deja Vu” all great and amazing movies with Denzel, and of course “Equalizer 2” and when “Equalizer 3” when it finally comes out, can’t wait for the 3rd “Equalizer” to hit the theaters…
Bill Pullman played a villain in the movie "Ruthless People" It's a comedy with Bette Midler and Danny Devito, and it's hilarious.
You do need more Denzel, I don't think he has a single bad movie
TRAINING DAY is amazing!! One of his best roles.
On the revenge tip, Man On Fire is also a massively satisfying (and heartbreaking) revenge film.
Unstoppable, Tony Scott's last film, is also a great one for you guys to checknout. High-octane action, lots of tension.
I remember this movie getting very mixed reviews, critics calling it a relic or violence porn and not being suited for modern audiences. Seems I'm not a modern viewer, I really like it. And I don't remember having ever seen a bad movie with Denzel Washington. He's just a great actor.
Critics and the viewers often don't like the same things though, so that's actually quite common.
The critics and audiences are correct. It's cheap, predictable revenge porn. Part 2 was just as terrible.... So, sorry... He HAS been in bad movies. In fact, he hasn't been in a good one since Flight... that was 11 years ago.
THank you for this reaction, looking forward to your reaction to Equalizer 2
Denzel is the motivator we all need!
"God, is it gonna be a revenge movie?" This is pretty much THE revenge movie.
I would put American Gangster in the conversation for Denzel's best movies
The second one was kinda crap tho
@@prollins6443 and also book of Eli, and Training Day, but both equalizer movies are definitely the top two
@@meganega123 it was slow paced, so that’s understandable but I still enjoyed it very much
@@meganega123 I don't know if I would go so far as to call it crap, but it didn't meet the first I would agree
George mentioned a comedy where the bad guys think the the good guy is a genius bad-ass but he is in reality just a regular guy. That film already exists; it's called The Man Who Knew Too Little and stars Bill Murray. You guys would love it.
you guys should watch the sequel as well, it's equally as good as the original if not better.
Been waiting a long time for this one, great reaction, another one I think would make a great video is The Accountant. Love your your channel and yes I am subbed . Keep them coming
Robert walked so John Wick could run
This is actually adapted from a 1980s TV series starring Edward Woodward with an awesome 80s synth score from Stewart Copeland.
Imagine if Jason Bourne, John Wick and Robert joined forces. They would be unstoppable
Jason bourne doesn't wort this team, liam neeson would be perfect
Umm.... aren't they already unstoppable?
I can't believe we didn't get a Simpsons clip for the Bill Paxton/Pullman confusion.
Deja Vu is quite good (another Denzel movie)
Agree
Devil in a Blue Dress is a fantastic film. Also Remember the Titans, Pelican Brief, Glory, Crimson Tide, and Training Day are some favorites of Denzel films and are in no particular order.
Tom Cruise had Jack Reacher, Keanu Reeves has John Wick, and Denzel Washington has The Equalizer (third movie on the way). All happened around the same time.
Just before them... Someon took Liam Neeson´s daughter... few times actually.
Hey guys, like your reactions. Just wanted to say that the John Wick analogy "and everyone's the puppy" was brilliant.
Training Day is what you were thinking of. Denzel's best (academy award caliber).
It will disturb you.
You guys would like Nobody. Similar to this with a heavier Home Alone finale.
Great movie & yeah Honey is absolutely a thing for wounds. Sugar promotes healing & raw honey has antibacterial properties. :-)
Other Denzel must watch movies;
"Ricochet"(1991)
"John Q"(2002)
"Unstoppable"(2010)
Small information: Yes, Keanu Reeves played a villain in his own movie "Man of Tai Chi".
Oh Simone - that clip was so funny and absurd, I loved your reference to it. (Yes, men love pterodactyls)
26:00 - Bill Pullman played a very bad guy in the Torchwood TV series. Keanu played a villain in "The Watcher".
George, you won me on the "Sam, Morgan and Denzel monologuing the planet to the next Ice Age" idea... LOL
Ya'll don't know how glad I am, that you guys decide it to watch this movie. Denzel washington have so many great movies. He is a national treasure.
Fallen from 1998 with John Goodman has always been one of my favorites of his, along with Book of Eli and The Bone Collector. Thanks for the videos.
Training Day, then Book of Eli, then American Gangster, then the rest. All are golden, but those first three are the absolute pinnacle of Denzel.
Book of Eli is a must for a Denzel watch as well as the rest of his Equalizer movies. I like "Unstoppable" because it is based on a true event. Love you guys reactions and to those unsubbed "Come on guys it is just a click, Simone & George deserve the love"
Bill Pullman was the villain in Mr. Wrong. Keanu Reeves was the villain in Man of Tai Chi. He also played Don John in Much Ado About Nothing.
Yeah. Things that contain a lot of sugar or salt are good at keeping bacteria at bay.
“Anything above Eight Thousand Calories is Guaranteed to be Delicious.”
You should put that on a T-Shirt 🤣❤️
Denzel got famous for "Malcolm X". A MUST watch. The American Gangster.
Both based on true stories..
The Equaliser is one of my favourite films. I've watched it quite a few times and I love the way Denzel plays his character so well. I've watched the 2nd one a few times too and I can't wait for the 3rd.
Bill Pullman question: See "Surveillance" and decide for yourself ( nobody spoil it for them ). Also David Lynch's "Lost Highway"
One underrated Denzel film you should do is Fallen. Amazing drama/fantasy.
