@@julesrose7738 Just finished reading the book "Light & Shade. Conversations with Jimmy Page" and he indeed said great things about this experience. Just listen to Anthrax & RUN DMC "Bring the Noise". Us metalheads LOVED it. I'm sure the rap fans loved it too! Now 30 or so years later I'm an older boy and absolutely appreciate and respect 1980's classic rap. Once it got into gangsta and then later on hip-hop (which is a real insult to REAL hip hop music) it got repetitive, angry & lacking in any musical value. Every song & every video (flashing Benjamins, girls twerking and looking pissed, fancy cars and the usual BS) the same crap. I'm sure some of the classic rappers feel the same way.
I was a young boy during this time and I give Puffy a lot of credit for putting me and many other black American youth of my generation onto the brilliance of Led Zeppelin. This is what happens when hip-hop and rock and roll are brought together. Imagine how many new fans Aerosmith got when they re-released Walk This Way with Run-DMC. You don’t have to love rap but you cannot deny that it dominates the music world just as rock did many years ago and when both are combined, magic usually happens. This song was a great moment for both genres.

Well, after a couple of decades I might like it more than I have. I had mixed emotions of it at the time if I recall. I think looking back it was REALLY annoying how this song was getting more attention than Page And Plant's come back studio l.p. (and classic I might add), "Walking Into Clarksdale". Nothing particular wrong that this even came out during that project but it was odd and frustrating. Especially since Page And Plant's collaborations didn't continue much after that. I have to say, though, one of the most important things I learned if you want to be a good musician, is, you don't have to like everything: But, you need to be able to appreciate everything. Here is an example: I can not stand to listen to about 99%of anything by Rush. I don't like their sound. However, in the progressive rock genre, I would say they are the best at what they do. And, as musicians individually, I like them a lot. People - were/are great to everyone. They are true to their band, their sound, songwriting and make us Canadians proud. That is just an example. Now as for THIS song, I like it. Energy is great, arrangement is true to the original with some very nice additions (especially love the French horn line), and the original was used in a respectful way. Both artists gave it their all. I would say, when they performed on SNL, they seemed to be enjoying themselves more and you could hear that. Just my humble 2 cents

Most people would rather not see music evolve. Or let alone the human race. And it's always started with the music of youth that really upsets the old timers.
Most people that hate the song hate it because of it sampling the legendary song kashmir. That alone will open it up to hate because kashmir is a masterpiece. While this is ok it in no way is on the same level of awesome as kashmir.
Dang. Just say last comment to this from 8 years ago. I never saw this but have the original CD Godzilla from my son. Oye. Bless you both & the orchestra. Uh huh yay.

LOLOL..... let me clear this up... this is Mario "Skeeter" aka "Yellowman" Winans on drums. He started out as Diddy's drummer and one of his producers for a few of bad boy artist and then became an artist himself for a short period. But to me and many others in the gospel music world we know and love him as simply Mario Winans. And yes he's been a monster on drums drums he was a kid recording with the multi Grammy award winning gospel family and group, The Winans!
thank you so much for clearing this up Dennis. I remember seeing them on SNL when this song was released and was blown away by the drummer. I tried and tried to get that drummer's name to no avail. I kind of randomly wound up on this page today. It had to be the same guy. Thanks again!

I love that they still played Godzilla’s roar at the end of the song.
What a great, timeless riff. And that's about all I can say about this.
Nobody hated this song, back in the day. It was HUGE! It's the only song by this dude I like. I'm an OG Rock and Metal fan. I don't understand why anyone would hate it now.
It was super hated on. People felt like black people were trying to steal thier culture. Super ironic. Same thing happened with lil Nas x to a lesser extent thanks to Billy Ray Cyrus.
Jimmy Page 🖤
This is honestly way more dope than I remembered lmao
I always thought it was dope but got damn. Those drums
When i was in my teens i thougjt puff daddy is the original, didnt know led zeppelins kashmir then. But hey puff daddy owned and killed it, same with jimmy page. Awesome performance
That has to sound insane live
I don’t get why people hated this song? 😂 it’s a good song
I always loved this song even though I wasn't a rap fan. This song is badass
It's a very mediocre song. It's not terrible, but it's far from good.
Porque no cachan niuna wea
This why puff is a goat because he took Hip Hop to new heights despite what you say he is a visionary
Simplemente ÉPICO....!!!! 🙌🏼
El juicio también va ser epico 😂
@@shakariid7457 jaajaja
One of the most original cool rock rollout songs made
This is what I'm talking about. No stupid set ups just performing. Miss these days.
I absolutely love u Mr Jimmy page xxx
They both enjoyed kids 🎉
Yes they did!!
That was the time when music has a originality and class
1:40 when Jimmy still does “the thing” 🥹
I’m usually not a big fan of sampling but Puff did a great job here. And he did it with Jimmy Page’s blessing.
Classic performance. God bless Combs and his family 🙏
💯💯💯💯💯
that aged well hahaha
I have always liked this song.
Great tune!
That's exactly how I would dance it if the song started playing right now.
What a performance.
Love this
Powerful performance!
Puff Daddy so lucky to stand on the same stage as Jimmy Page. There are worlds of talent between them
Poof Grampa shouldn`t even be mentioned in the same breath as JP.
I guess the same could be said about their wealth disparity…
@@JudgeDredd_ yea that comparison makes as much difference as album sales do to the quality of the album…
@@JudgeDredd_Yes, among other things.
Drummer was on fire on the pocket 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤Jiimmy page legend no words needed 4 him a Music God
Sean, Jimmy, Mario are killin' it!!!
Jimmy is doing all the work.

It's actually led zeppelin's "Kashmir" with p,diddy doing hip hop lyrics ha!
+bkrbyex4339 Thanks for letting me know.
Here’s a cookie 🍪
Just epically bad ass!!!!!!!
5:27 puff daddy turnin to axl rose's mode. Lol
Love this song so cool!😎
I remember this!
Dang. Just say last comment to this from 8 years ago. I never saw this
but have the original CD Godzilla from my son. Oye. Bless you both & the orchestra.
Uh huh yay.
I saw this the first time on SNL and loved it, what a great combo and I’m not a rap fan at all but Page can make anything work, he’s the best. I’m 64.btw
Damn! Guitar riff is awwwwwwwwwesome!
I remember going to the Walking into Clarksdale tour. Everyone thought Puff would show up. Lol. Luckily it didn't happen. Great concert too.
the drummer is epic
is it tony royster jr??
David Snow I don't know :)
***** Come on guys ! This is the ONLY drummer that could actually play as good as Bohnam. My friends its Tony Thompson. Remember the " POWER STATION" with Robert Palmer. He was the best drummer in the world at that time. Died in 2003 from cancer...
LOLOL..... let me clear this up... this is Mario "Skeeter" aka "Yellowman" Winans on drums.
Its crazy to think that Rappers make more than Zeppelin did with only a fraction of the talent..
Have to add.....just saw 1999. I knew it was decades ago, but.....
I was a Mama-san x 2. Not sorry I missed out as sons most important.
Unbelievable how well you looked and sounded. TY
This is an epic remix that still holds up today. The Sample Gawd P Diddy!
i super like this song ❤
great collab
One of my favourite songs👍fabolous live performance👌
