    It's so nice to see somebody trying 5.56 on armor at conversational distances with a 20" barrel, instead of half a football field with a 14.5 (or shorter!). Yeah, yeah, I know your SBR is real cool, but I'm here to learn the limits of the ARMOR.

    • @rachdarastrix5251
      @rachdarastrix5251 4 года назад +4

      Now i know how well I could rely on it if I ran out of ammo and failed to close the distance with a bayonet. I would be bruised from the blunt force trauma but that wouldn't be enough to stop me from closing the last 11 feet.

    • @StockedShelves
      @StockedShelves 4 года назад +1

      @@rachdarastrix5251 No if you are able to take multiple rifle rounds to the chest with steel armor on and still make it to the target to be able to bayonet then you are beyond human. Watch videos of police officers taking PISTOL rounds to the vest, it sends them on their ass, and that's likely with them wearing soft armor which won't transfer energy as well as steel.

    • @rachdarastrix5251
      @rachdarastrix5251 4 года назад +5

      @@StockedShelves There are people who are beyond human. There are records of people who have taken a full blast with a shotgun without armor and it did not slow them down. As well as people who were taking rounds from pistols and rifles without armor and have still managed to stab several people before bleeding out, the latter of which were actually trying to die.

      @@StockedShelves The kinetic energy will be spread over a greater surface when wearing steel armor. Soft armor will be like taking a 90MPH fastball to the chest wearing a thick coat! That is why trauma plates are used with soft armor.

    Shot a AR 500 steel plate with 60 rounds of 7,62 ×51 NATO standard ammunition in green tip steel core amor piercing and you got a few pass through, take any bigger ammo in green black or silver tip amor piercing and it will penetrate at every shot the amor, especially black and silver tip, i imagine you get no depleted uranium ammo, also that will be the best case to blow a away such an amor. With a 50 Bmg with depleted uranium ammo, shot in the right spot, you stop a tank.

    Out of curiosity, are Spartans' Level III+ plates rated to resist 7.62x51mm M61 steel core/black tip? I assumed so, since Level III+/special threat plates from other manufacturers are rated for it. Spartan Armor notes that they resist loads up to 3,100 feet per second, which is well above the velocity of the M61 AP round.
    I've looked at the literature online, but I haven't been able to find an answer.

    take the 550 plate away and regular FMJ (.30-06) would punch right thru that tree trunk. I have seen it happen while target shooting. I had a target on a live maple that was 27" thick from entry to exit and the round passed thru it like it wasn't there.

    • @Urbicide
      @Urbicide 9 лет назад

      WhiskeyRiverRifleman Was the maple tree a Sugar maple, also known as hard maple? That is definitely some hard wood. Bowling pins were made from hard maple. Silver & red maple wood is much softer. I always get a laugh when you see someone involved in a TV or movie gun fight hiding behind a thin wooden planked wall. The Chinese mil-surp 7.62X39MM, imported back in the 1980's, had a steel core. (Of course, Clinton banned the importation of it. It was cheaper to shoot than .22LR.) We noticed it blowing right through 14" blocks of seasoned red oak like it was nothing. You could hit that wood with a hammer & it would barely make a dent in the surface. We didn't try to see what the maximum actual penetration was at the time, but I would say that it would easily pass through a few more inches without any difficulty.

    How about the .458 Socom round? And I didn't like the way that the clay looked after the first three rounds. WTF is up with that? Did the clay adhere to the back of the plate or was the clay compressed from the impact of the round? I'm interpreting what I see as clay compression.

      Jacob B. thanks! , btw a other question, what would be the best rpm for a 3round burst? 1shot mostly kills but to have a better hit propability ,with one controlled trigger pull instead of inconsistent full auto (2200 would be the highest possible with the mechanism, and with verry low recoil). What do you think what rpm would be good?

    • @BB-np4ib
      @BB-np4ib 9 лет назад

      J.Strauch \Liandri/ 1 shot does not mostly kill, 6 out of 7 people shot lives.

    Just a question: why would you use armor that can only stop 5.56. When you're dealing with rifle armed enemies a 7.62 is a just a likely opponent? Not hating or anything just wondering.

    • @crazyfvck
      @crazyfvck 9 лет назад

      Romanlegionary575 I believe the 3+ plate that they used here is rated for 308 as well. I think they say it is guaranteed for 3 or 4 direct hits? Or maybe I am thinking of Level 4.

    • @Romanlegionary575
      @Romanlegionary575 9 лет назад

      crazyfvck Yeah it watched it again, i think it can stop 308. It was a bit confusing with the different plates.

    Does a Level IV Ceramic Plate stop a 30-06?

  • @InfiniteGrim

    Finally a good AR500(+) test. All the others that were 30-50+ yards were kind of useless.

    • @InfiniteGrim
      @InfiniteGrim 9 лет назад

      Because shooting AR500 plates at 50+ yards with handguns and various rifles is just for show and entertainment and nothing was really learned. People have known they would stop that. Now the Level III AR500 plates would fail at 5-15 yards with M193 and for some reason noone would show that on youtube.... especially when the budget non steel plates were stopping it.

      sik59rt Also in addition to my other reply, The Target Man gained a lot of notoriety on AR15.com before he or his products ever showed up on this channel. He promised us all kinds of close up tests with the Level III plates, because at the time the AR500.com plates would fail at those distances... He never showed us those tests and made a lot of people lose faith in his plates.

    How many hits would say 1/8'' AR500 take? These plates can take a ton of hits with out failing, but how many hits would one person really need to stop? If 1/8'' could stop a few 5.56 rounds that would be good enough for me, and it would drastically reduce the weight, which is the big downside to AR500 armor plate.

    The comments are all about the 30-06 piercing it, it is NOT rated to 30-06 it specifically says that on a rating chart. As well he mentioned it in the video. You need level 4 special threat plates for that

    How much does the plate weight? And the trauma pack? How much extra weight? Solid steel plates have to be pretty heavy and that's going to be an issue for any troop, especially once who has to march or hike into the target area. So I'm just curious about the weight of both the Level III and Level IV plates fully loaded into a rig with trauma packs behind them, a real world weight you might call it. ????
