Way back when you made this video, I searched others that mDe videos too. I was convinced on these plates, back then. I still have them, as well as lighter ceramic plates today. Impressed with the 3006 AP rounds.
***** are you sure those are M2 AP? The same as your AR500 test? Those weren't actual black tip M2 AP, as I just concluded testing that M2AP ate right through the III.
Very nice jobs guys! I liked watching the last armor review and this is was good as well. Very realistic, fair and accurate testing of the plates.Keep all this good stuff coming.
Hello Eric ! RIP Barry ! Just been watching you on the Destination Channel ! Love the show ,hope to see more ! Its really great !! Good to see Barry -RIP ! I miss his great overview of all things ! I Keep it all AWESOME as always !! Thanks !!
4 typos on the on the back printed sticker of the Level III AR500 Hard Plate. Jump to 4:01 to check it out and pause it. "Manor" instead of "manner." "It's" instead of "its." "Then" instead of "than." Lastly, "waranties" instead of "warranties." I wonder if the same attention to detail goes into their production process...
thats really amazing. the fact that a level 3 plate took so many 30-06 AP rounds. it is not rated for ANY 30-06 rounds. and it took all of those AP rounds, and only until hit many times in the exact spot did it fail....wit AP. thats friggin amazing. thats actually level 4 capabilities if im not mistaken. makes me alot happier knowing that i run spartan armor in my kit. (this exact plate)i know the stuff is awesome, but shit, this is amazing. well done fellas.
What I don't get about body armor plates is why is it so small compared to the human torso ? It should be longer and also slightly wider other wise you can still get shot in the gut or lower torso. Bullet hits you there it can rip up organs and you and make you bleed out.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing... because there are also important bits on the left and right... maybe it's supposed to be a 2nd piece of armor for your sides, I have no idea how that works and I get very confused when I look it up. Something to do with how the arms don't rest properly but I don't know. :(
it would be good to see some drop tests followed by shooting with ceramic plates. because the ceramic it brittle if you were to fall etc while wearing them it would be interesting to see what affect that would have on the armour capability
Wish you were able to do one with Dragon Skin. Turn people who don't already know about its resilience against the army who banned it within their ranks.
AK47 rounds are pretty damn close. besides when laying on a grenade, Dragon Skin stops the shrapnel. the wearer takes no shrapnel where dragon skin covers. If it can take a grenade, it can take 30-06 AP
killer13324 I don't want to break your bubble, but Future Weapon's testing was by no means a scientific one. I'm sure Level III armor will stop all shrapnel. AK47 rounds are relatively easy to stop from my understanding. Slow rounds are easy to catch, fast rounds are not (ie 5.56X45, 5.45X39) It is the reason that FN and H&K went with 5.7 and 4.7mm bullets for the PDW ammo -it's fast.
Observed some armor testing for one of the national labs way back and noted that at close range the rounds were stopped. At 30 yards or greater the rounds , same lot, caliber and rifle were not stopped. The explanation was presented that as a round leaves a barrel there be a wee bit of "wobble" or instability at the initial few feet from the barrel. The impact at close range was sort of a mild keyhole, very mild mind you, yet did have an effect on the test. If ya still have a sample and time .... I would be interested to see if that same issue was at play here. Enjoyed your video, well done in a fair and proper manner. My experience of distance and body armor made me wonder if ya stepped out to 50 meters that same black tip 30-06 would or wouldn't be stopped.... Thumbs up .... stay safe !! PawPaw Texas
Hey Eric, I am curious to see how much effect (armor wise) wearing 2 loaded magazines (stacked on each other) has. Seems like a lot of layers of different metal for a round and or schrapnel to go through.
Well if ever I am shot sixty times in the chest, I know witch armour I want to wear. But seriously, I was shocked how well the lightweight armour did against some pretty mean weapons. Good job Spartan!!! So glad that these veterans are giving something back and at the same time carrying on their tradition of helping to protect people. Well done and thank you for your service.
Would like to have seen you fire XM193 against the AR500 plate. Due to its hot loading, it will defeat the armor. Great vid guys! Thanks for all of the time and effort!
Eric, next time try 22-250. I was shooting 7.5 swiss and 7.62x54 all day at my ar500 target with no deformities. my buddy took 3 shots with his 22-250 with varmint tips at 40 yds and 2 of the 3 punched through. I couldn't believe it. great video keep em up!
I've got some of these Eric I got the heavy AR500 rifle plates. I chose them before the new plates came out but I still would have chosen them due to budget constraints. they were pretty cheap shipped to my door. I chose to get them after getting shot while hunting
.50 Cals are ment for anti-aircraft and to punch through very thick walls. I'm pretty sure a .50 Caliber will smash the armor like when a baseball hits glass
The plus is that if you're the guy behind the guy getting shot your armor has a decent chance once it has gone through the guy in front of you's front and back plate... just don't be that guy...
Great vid guys! I would love to see you guys shoot some 7.62x54r steel core or 5.45x39 steel core into some armor and see how that fares in comparison to greentip and other stuff.
How about this for a test. Have not found anyone who has done this... but maybe someone has. What distance does it take for level 3 soft body armor to stop some standard rifle rounds? Say 300, 500, 800 or 1000 yards? This would be of real interest after what just happened in Las Vegas. You are one of the only people I watch to has enough range to do this kind of test.
Love the vids guys. I would like to see some shotgun vs armor testing. I'm sure I could go searching and find some footage but is prefer seeing you all do it. Specifically 12ga slugs and moving up into 10ga. I know it doesn't have high piercing capabilities but it's a large heavy round that most of us know packs a punch. Hope to see this in the future. Keep it up!
I would like to see the rumors dispelled about the armor piercing abilities of some smaller rounds such as the Five-Seven, .22 Hornet, .22 Magnum, and even .22 LR, that will supposedly penetrate because of their size, shape, and velocity.
My only wish is that it was easier to connect with what you are testing to what they have on their site. They don't seem to have a product code, and their descriptions don't quite match what you have. Would it be possible for you to put a product link to that products page matched with the time stamp it is shown in the video? I'd love to look at the second one tested, but am not sure which IIIA plate it is. There was a huge difference between the impact on the 1st and 2nd plate, which I think are in the same category on their site. Thanks.
I'd like to see how some of the different types of armor would stand up to shotgun rounds, incendiary, and tracer rounds of different calibers. Something like 5.56 and 7.62
Like to see Patriot vs Spartan level IV different caliber shots including m193 checking every shot not shoot 30 rds then check. With some kind of backing to see when and damage of penitration.
The buckle probably broke from the stress when the .308 round hit the rig. None of that equipment is designed to survive multiple hits like that - it dies so you don't have to.
Great video guys, I have AR500 plates in all 3 of my carriers, looking at the uhwmpe lv iii plates make me want to swap out 1 to make a lightweight rig. I like having that saftey net of AR500 but here in the Nevada desert during a 120 degree summer it gets a little rough. I would love to see more tests using the lv iii uhwmpe plate vs. 7.62x39. Using the rounds we face would really give me piece of mind. Thanks for this test! Mick!
So level III AR500 steel stops multiple AP rounds and it's not considered level IV? The ceramic level IV stopped a few rounds (less than the steel did) but it IS level IV? How's that?
Because level III AR500 steel won't necessarily stop 1 round past its rating and when it fails you get perforated with 2 projectiles: the slug and a steel plate fragment.
smaller faster bullets tend to explode more or less on hard targets soft targets are different.. bullet weight=energy weight+energy=penetration simple physics..there are exceptions like kevlar its soft armor so a smaller faster bullet can penetrate it without exploding when a slower bigger bearing surface round might not
Hey Eric, would you mind doing a philosophy video in armor plates for the average citizen? Do we really need them, are they worth the money if we're not likely to be shot at in our lifetime?
I would love a video about this, I kind of went WTF when he talked about putting a plate inside a kid's backpack. It honestly just sounds like fear-mongering, and would want some more insight into this.
***** Well there has been a school shooting every week for the past month in the US. Might as well put the light one in a kids back pack kinda like paying insurance premiums in case you need to get some sort of surgery or something. Not saying its gonna need to be used, but just in case.
***** There have been a lot of videos on youtube in the last 6 months about putting armor in kids backpacks, adult travel cases, or sneaking armor into work. It isn't "fear mongering" it's reality. Would you send your school with a chance, or nothing. Would you send your wife to work with a chance, or nothing. Would you go to work with a chance, or nothing. That's the question to think about. More and more places are "gun free zones" but they aren't "armor free zones" so it seems pretty simple. Once they also become "armor free zones" then we have a new level of problems.
I guess the first question I would ask, is why do you think you're unlikely to get shot? I mean it's like saying how unlikely you are to get hit by a car or have your car break down on the freeway... Hopefully it doesn't happen but some times it does. Maybe not to you, but to someone you know. I was raised in boy scouts and by my family to be prepared... so you just try to do your best to be prepared. It's a mindset thing. If you live every day thinking you aren't likely to be shot I don't think you'd be as prepared for it as someone who thinks it could likely happen and sooner rather than later with home break ins, active shooter situations, civil unrest, etc. etc. etc. Mindset. :)
Same as all armors today if you place shots that hit the same spot it will fail. Is there a plate out there that can withstand multiple hits at the same spot?
Hey Eric, you should do some 7.62x25 from a yugo tokarev vs the lvl 3a, also some 7.62x39(regular fmj and Chinese steel core ammo). 7.62x54r steel core would be very interesting thnx man. Btw great video
I want to see you guys shot pinnacle armor's dragon skin and I would also like to see you shot it from an angle to see if it will break apart. Thanks for taking the time to read my comment.
I'd like to see close range m855 tests with soft armor under plates not rated for it. I figure if a level II vest can stop a green tip after it goes through a given plate, then it should be good with just about any IIIa. I think having a soft, discreet vest for day to day use and having a plate carrier with something like level III uhmwpe plates to throw on top would be a great solution if the combination could stop green tip.
i know what im about to say is impractical but could you possibly stack 2 light weight plates ontop of eachother to possible stop a rifle round or a few rifle rounds?
"I wish I could show you the weight easier." Ever heard of a weight scale? If them being light weight is the selling point, then I want to know EXACTLY how light they truly are.
ethan pham I know it seems probably stupid to everyone... but is there literally only one basic type of .357 magnum round? When I go to the store or online there seem to be many types... but I guess not as many as other rounds.. :/ I was just wondering if there was a .357 specifically for penetration but doesn't look like there is as it's just for power/stoppage. I guess most of that development goes into rifle rounds for things like penetration of windshields, armor, etc.. Anyway it was a serious honest question but it doesn't seem like it matters because all .357 seems to be basically the same.
ethan pham Nah it's just that there are lots of different rifle rounds types, but seems that there's only a basic .357 mag round. I learned a lot trying to research and answer my own question, hehe.
Great stuff, beautiful Garand, was really thinking you were going double up the pistol armor and punch it with the Mosin with some A.P. But that armor took so much abuse you probably could of javelin it from 50 feet with the bayonet.
Way back when you made this video, I searched others that mDe videos too. I was convinced on these plates, back then. I still have them, as well as lighter ceramic plates today. Impressed with the 3006 AP rounds.
***** are you sure those are M2 AP? The same as your AR500 test? Those weren't actual black tip M2 AP, as I just concluded testing that M2AP ate right through the III.
it stopped 4 black tip 30-06's thats plenty enough for me its earned my vote
impressed, I also had some bad old habits thinking armor plates needed to be big and heavy. Thanks learn something today. Keep up the good work!!
Great review those plates are no joke they preformed a lot better that I thought. Thanks guys for the video.
Very nice jobs guys! I liked watching the last armor review and this is was good as well. Very realistic, fair and accurate testing of the plates.Keep all this good stuff coming.
The best armor test video on the net. That Spartan armor is impressive. Thanks for putting so much work into this channel.
Look how popular Spartan is now!!!

Got mine 5 months ago. Can it really stop that? Wow!!!
Excellent. This helps a bunch in deciding on an armor purchase.
Awesome video I just bought 2 ar500 steel plates!
Great video, that was some extreme testing!
Great video guys.. Really liking the Ballistic torso. Good stuff.

the only reason i can think of is its one size fits all kinda thing you would have to get custome gear for what your thinking
you can buy plates that are made larger
Mobility also
Your are trying to protect your vital organs
Well done. Tested on a gel dummy in a plate carrier as it would be used in a real world scenario. GJ
you guys do awesome videos!
Eric,
You're doing an excellent job with video quality here. The audio quality is also excellent. Keep up the good work.
it would be good to see some drop tests followed by shooting with ceramic plates. because the ceramic it brittle if you were to fall etc while wearing them it would be interesting to see what affect that would have on the armour capability
That armor is freaking impressive! I did not expect any armor system to withstand that Garand at all. Wow!
Sweet armor test! I've always wanted a few plates ill have to check this company out
Getting shot at with the garand I still might stick around to hear that ping from the clip ejecting. such an awesome sound.
Wish you were able to do one with Dragon Skin. Turn people who don't already know about its resilience against the army who banned it within their ranks.
MrGunman11 That has been debunked by independent tests. But I wish iraq vet would do a live debunk video about it.
***** Yes but when shot from an angle the scales fall off and Dragon Skin was never tested with 30-06 AP or anything close to it.
AK47 rounds are pretty damn close. besides when laying on a grenade, Dragon Skin stops the shrapnel. the wearer takes no shrapnel where dragon skin covers. If it can take a grenade, it can take 30-06 AP

says the people who work for point blank armor systems the current holder of the US army armor contractor? LOL
Thanks for the review, brother. Was looking at these with a bit of skepticism b/c of the price but not any longer.

Hey Eric, I am curious to see how much effect (armor wise) wearing 2 loaded magazines (stacked on each other) has. Seems like a lot of layers of different metal for a round and or schrapnel to go through.
I'm not sure about you, but i run pmags with brass ammo. Those aren't stopping anything 😅
Gotta love that ejection sound from the m1 garand 💯👊 love your videos brotha
What ever happened to Dragon Skin? Do they even use it?
they cancelled it because it was "too expensive"...
No one from the company wanted it tested on them selves.
Too expensive and it didn't work. Steep angle shots and extreme temps meant it could be defeated.
nathan bromley
Would you?
SpartanB88
is it expensive yes then again the US military has spent billions on useless camouflage (ACU), defective weapons and equipment
FYI, Ceramic plate is not rated for multiple hits unlike the AR500 armor...
prandomable ar500 won’t stop m193 556
Would like to have seen you fire XM193 against the AR500 plate. Due to its hot loading, it will defeat the armor. Great vid guys! Thanks for all of the time and effort!

good job ,liked seeing the M1 shot very cool
Love these long vids!
Awesome video! Very educational. Thank you.
That Spartan level III polyethylene plate is awesome! Definitely my next purchase.
Love it!! Keep up the good work!
always enjoy your vids
Awesome video!
LOL!! We need a comic book superhero named "Ballistic Steve"!
Look up Italian Spider-Man.
Yes
Great video.
Love your vids man keep em coming!! This is some good info to know when looking for armor plates
IMPRESSED, HAVE YOU DONE ANY WITH DRAGONSCALE?, LOVE THE VIDEOS GUYS, KEEP'EM COMING
Very comprehensive test !
I've got some of these Eric I got the heavy AR500 rifle plates. I chose them before the new plates came out but I still would have chosen them due to budget constraints. they were pretty cheap shipped to my door. I chose to get them after getting shot while hunting
Hows about AR500 plate VS .50BMG sniper rifle ?
Go watch Demolition Ranch. That's a boring test, it's quite obvious it will go straight through.
.50 Cals are ment for anti-aircraft and to punch through very thick walls. I'm pretty sure a .50 Caliber will smash the armor like when a baseball hits glass
if your being shot at with a 50bmg and ain't taking cover IMMIEDATALLY something in you is fucked
Even if it did stop the round, which it doesn't, you'd still be fucked from the blunt force trauma.

Keep it up!
my God Chad put almost the entire mag on 5.56 ball ammo through the same hole :O what an amazing shooter
It's 50ft. Chad is a good shot, not taking anything away from him. But it's 50ft with an AR and optics. I think most people that shoot could do that.
have you shot the level 3 plate with 5.56 penetrator? is it good to go or does it punch through?
exactly what i want to know. i think 556 wil defeat the plate. lvl 3 is not rated for 556 at all
Josh Jedlicka it depends what load, and how fast.
Josh Jedlicka uhmwpe gets obliterated by things like m855
How about full metal 338 Lapua
Armor Test videos are fun! Keep em coming :)
Great vid! amazing, what these plates take. Thx for this nice review!
I would like to see the rumors dispelled about the armor piercing abilities of some smaller rounds such as the Five-Seven, .22 Hornet, .22 Magnum, and even .22 LR, that will supposedly penetrate because of their size, shape, and velocity.
I have ar500 plates from thetargetman and they are great
My only wish is that it was easier to connect with what you are testing to what they have on their site. Thanks.
What is y'all's opinion on the .450 Bushmaster? Love the videos guys!
Nice testing

Too bad you guys didn't test with 7.62X54R API (From my understanding these rounds can really rip through armor)
So level III AR500 steel stops multiple AP rounds and it's not considered level IV? The ceramic level IV stopped a few rounds (less than the steel did) but it IS level IV? How's that?
Because level III AR500 steel won't necessarily stop 1 round past its rating and when it fails you get perforated with 2 projectiles: the slug and a steel plate fragment.
see what the Fn 5.7 will do out of the p90 or ps90 with the armor piercing rounds
SS190 (armor piercing) isn't available on the civilian market.
smaller faster bullets tend to explode more or less on hard targets soft targets are different.. bullet weight=energy weight+energy=penetration simple physics..there are exceptions like kevlar its soft armor so a smaller faster bullet can penetrate it without exploding when a slower bigger bearing surface round might not

^^well if you live where gang activity is popular then as a parent it can get very scary
So that level 3 rifle plate won't break if you happen to fall on your back or front with a full loadout?
yeah I'd like to see you shoot ar500 and ar550 with 5.56 xm193 that is more than 3200fps
Same as all armors today if you place shots that hit the same spot it will fail. Is there a plate out there that can withstand multiple hits at the same spot?
how many plates would you need to stop a .50 BMG?
1 inch thick armor plate will protect you from a .50 BMG and its armor piercing ammo
What i'd like to see is a video on what we could use (in an everyday life) as a protection against various calibers (Including the big boy .50 cal)
Hey Eric, you should do some 7.62x25 from a yugo tokarev vs the lvl 3a, also some 7.62x39(regular fmj and Chinese steel core ammo). 7.62x54r steel core would be very interesting thnx man. Btw great video
You have any that are 11x14 inches tripe curved?
Marshall Kiser Check out ar500(dot)com. They sell different sizes of plates in several styles.
I think Spartan just made me a believer.
I'd like to know if spartan armor uses DKX panels for their ballistic systems ? They seem to be really similar to the ones I've got.
Can you drop the uhmwpe plates multiple times and still maintain the same nij balistic ratings?
Yes.
Can you do a test stacking ar500 plate and ar550 plate to see what threat it can handle before failing
Great test, thanks!
Why is there no xm193 tests of the uhmwpe level 3 plates? Will this level three not stop the xm193? What about m855?
Rylee Marble it won't stop them
Have you done armor tests. I've seen level 4 plate surviving 338 lapua and 300 win mag.
Are they still making black tip, or is everything old milsurp?
I want to see you guys shot pinnacle armor's dragon skin and I would also like to see you shot it from an angle to see if it will break apart. Thanks for taking the time to read my comment.
Just for my own curiosity were you using .357 FMJ or HP
This convinced me to buy the lv3 plate. :D
How is it?
@@nh7680 I got ar500 plates lol
xm193 on the ar500 plate please.
I’m looking to buy plates but I only care about it stopping 7.62 and 556 which one should I buy
Does moss pawn ship to other states? Ok having a hard time finding a mosin and was just curious
For further tests it would be nice to see some different shotgun loads, especially the typical home defense recommendations like 00 buck, slugs etc.
Will there be a video testing these plates against XM193?
"I wish I could show you the weight easier."
Ever heard of a weight scale? If them being light weight is the selling point, then I want to know EXACTLY how light they truly are.
9 pounds 11oz
Awesome vid! What type of .357 and 308 rounds were you using?
I think it'd be safe to assume .357 magnum rounds
ethan pham I know it seems probably stupid to everyone... but is there literally only one basic type of .357 magnum round? When I go to the store or online there seem to be many types... but I guess not as many as other rounds.. :/ I was just wondering if there was a .357 specifically for penetration but doesn't look like there is as it's just for power/stoppage.
I guess most of that development goes into rifle rounds for things like penetration of windshields, armor, etc..
Anyway it was a serious honest question but it doesn't seem like it matters because all .357 seems to be basically the same.
oh okay i thought you meant that more along the lines of like 357 sig
ethan pham Nah it's just that there are lots of different rifle rounds types, but seems that there's only a basic .357 mag round.
