  • Seeing if you can trust your life to AR500 Armor?
We shoot all of AR500 Armor’s threat protection level plates with 9mm through 30.06 armor piercing rounds. By the end you’ll know if it meets your specific end-use for body armor.
    Here specifically, you’ll learn...
Some important body armor terms and what it means to be NIJ certified for a specific threat level.
See the link below for the FULL ARTICLE (since there’s a lot of info to digest):
    ► pew.link/AR500
We’ll cover Level 3A soft armor and what it can stop. Then move up to Level 3 steel plates.
We continue with more of AR500 Armor’s offerings with their Level 3+, lightweight versions, and even their ceramic composite Level 4 plates.
Our Recommendation - Level III+ Lightweight Plate with Build Up Coat!
Next, we dive into the different cuts that balance protection area and mobility. Such as the shooters cut and advanced shooters cut (aka swimmer’s cut).
Not sure what size you need or how to wear your armor plates? We cover that too.
Moving on, we go over why you should go with a curved plate that also has extra Paxcon coating. Short answer: comfort and to protect yourself from spalling.
Finally...we shoot up all the plates with a variety of bullet calibers, from 9mm through .357 Magnum for the soft armor. And .308 ball through a couple varieties of 5.56 such as M193 and M855 Penetrator rounds for the AR500 steel plattes.
Plus the M2AP (armor piercing) 30.06 black tip.
Lastly, we go over a couple of AR500 Armor’s top plate carrier choices like the Invictus, Testudo, Veritas, Micro, and Freeman.
    Our Fave Plate Carrier!
All in all, this video should give you the heads up on whether AR500 based armor is right for you. And hopefully the right threat level you need for your situation.

Yup. I went with AR500 Level 3+ Lightweight plates. 11x14" multi-curve for the front and rear plates, with the extra build-up coating. The side plates are the same configuration, and I went with 6"x8", instead of the standard 6"x6". I also have trauma pads behind all 4 of the plates. I am very happy to see that "my" plates performed so well. I also went with their Testudo Lite carrier, in multi-cam. My front and rear plates took quite a while to get to me (thanks to certain people making comments about banning body armor,) but they were worth the wait. I've had very good luck with AR500 over the years, and I intend to keep buying/using their products :)

    Excellent video. Very eye opening.
Having worn ESAPI plates for extreme durations under intense movement, Invest in the lightest armor you can, WITHOUT compromising protection, (ideally lvl 3+ or greater, weighing less than 6lbs)
Even something as light as 6.5lbs per plate becomes pretty unbearable after a few hours. Especially when you need to carry ammo, assault packs, and more.
Wear a size that covers the bare minimum, while still protecting vitals. Don't make yourself into a walking tank, you'll be too slow and die of heat exhaustion before you even get shot at.
If nothing else is available, steel is okay... but ONLY if it has thick protective coating, AND a trauma pad. If you have the option, go multi-curve polyethylene all day everyday.
You better have a good load bearing carrier too, nothing cheap with garbage weight distribution.
And lastly, be wary of manufacturers claims. Call them if specs are not listed. Look for EXACT calibers WITH accompanying velocity. "Will stop up-to .308" DOES NOT MEAN ANYTHING.
And make sure the plate specifies "STANDALONE" (no soft armor/trauma pad backing required)
Oh, and ask about the shelf life, too.
    Stay safe.

    • @vernievuitton
      @vernievuitton 2 года назад +1

What are some good carrier brands you go with? Am I generally safe if its made of 500d cordura? And will it hinder me to get those new quick release buckles on the cummerbund or shoulders, or do I want something full stitched for durability? Thanks for the insight!

    • @benjaminison564
      @benjaminison564 Год назад +1

@@vernievuitton I rock the ar500 Testudo gen 2, it’s a very modular carrier. You have front and rear plate compartments with trauma plate inserts on the side. Buckles on the shoulder straps for quick detach in the event you take a hit and need to be dragged out.
To add what the guy above said, steel is stronger and will take more hits with a longer shelf life but you also sacrifice comfort and weight.
Ceramic plate will only take 1 maybe 2 hits have a relatively short shelf life but they are lighter, rated for higher caliber and if you’ve ever had to train or operate in or around water they offer the added benefit of floatation whereas steel plates do not

After lots of research I went with ar500. Steel, buildup, multicurve, shooters cut with trauma pads. They run sales all the time. I got carriers and plates for my family 3 sets probly paid half price. I’ve seen people shoot the hell out of these plates and I was impressed enough to put my family in it. Not that we’re ever gonna be in battle but if SHTF we do have body armor in the gun room😁. Ar500 also sells hangars for loaded carriers that work great

They are a bad armor company. Go ceramic, or risk your life. There are incidents of some handguns hitting over hardened steel and shattering the armor. And one of the most common rounds in america, the M193, can put clean holes into it. Go ceramic or bust, man.

    • @maidenfan620tx
      @maidenfan620tx 4 года назад +6

@@KoishiVibin depends on what threat level you buy. Everything you said is true of Level III armor, but like what was shown in the video, AR500's Level III+ will stop the M193 and M855 at the expense of being a bit heavier. 30.06 black tip tears through it still, but the low cost and multi-hit capabilities of the steel armor is still attractive.

  •  3 месяца назад

My pet hate is body armour - not just the lack of proper design but the sales push used to sell it despite the knowledge that it doesn't work! The NIJ for financial reasons rigs their tests to avoid the truth and allow the products to pass.
Your very informative videos clearly demonstrate that all plates will fail, all it takes is the right weapon, right ammo and right distance.
The construction, weight and design of the bullet travelling at full velocity and momentum will defeat any and all vests based on impact.
The impact is of course doubled by the resistance of the vest.
Metal gets holed while ceramic gets pulverized and soft plates get deformed by inches.
Every one a failure based on the false belief that you can somehow stop a bullet and the manufacturers design is based on this false objective.
You cannot stop a bullet! but you can slow a bullet until it stops?
That is the algorithm that the plate design should be based on.
Imagine the best rifle firing the best bullet from the optimum distance to achieve maximum velocity, momentum and penetration.
The test vest would contain one metal plate, rubber plate, hard compressed polythene plate, rubber plate and finally a soft compressed polythene plate.
The projectile hits the metal plate that instead of resisting gets pushed backwards into the rubber shock absorber plate and the force continues back through the other plates to be dispersed by the final soft plate.
The design has immediately avoided the impact doubling effect of a rigid plate and slowed the velocity and reduced the momentum of the projectile reducing the impact.
If the bullet manages to get through the metal front plate it then has to try and force it's way through the rubber and the hard poly plate that also has a rubber plate behind it and a soft poly plate behind that.
As you are the obvious experts in destroying plates it would be interesting to see a basic test of this principal.
A mint condition ballistic dummy with zero blunt trauma and no bullet holes is the only acceptable pass.
Test to destruction is the only acceptable test!

There was bullet splatter on the face of the first lexan panel and the plate slugs were driven through the first 1/4" lexan and were stopped in the second layer.

@Stale Bagelz Not a merc. There IS a difference, both in legalities and functions.
Legally, mercs are listed as war criminals with the U.N., that hire out to pretty much whoever to do whatever. Some have personal codes of conduct, but far to many are just hired murders and thieves.
Security Contractors function within the laws of whatever country, state, city they are contracted to, and work primarily as a defensive roll to keep people, places, and things safe from theft and/or harm. We are also MUCH more choosy as to who we contract with and for.
There are also different categories of Security Contractors:
PMC, or Private Military Contractor: Contract to militaries to perform duties similar to the military personnel. This can be anything from translators to office administrators, or scouting to running and gunning, or teaching to combat training.
PDC, or Private Defense Contractor: Strictly defensive rolls that are primarily contracted to facilities, compounds, buildings, etc.
PSC, or Private Security Contractor: Provide mostly defensive rolls for privately owned property or people. Often anything from armed guards to bodyguards.
PDCs and PSCs are often confused by the public with Commercial Security Contractors, aka "Mall Cops" and regular run of the mill security guards/officers. There is a VERY large, and lethal, difference.
Many of us bounce back and forth between the categories, and even fill in time between contracts with work in the commercial market.
Most of us take it quite offensively as to being called a merc. I take it with a grain of salt.
      Hope this enlightens you some.
