Love my DBXLE and love that you keep bringing us new info, upgrades, and advice. You have helped answer my questions more than once and your videos kick ass. Keep em coming!
As your channel grows, and things change, PLEASE don’t change the level of information you give!! I’ve watched a TON of RC videos (including diff fluid videos), and had no idea that thicker fluid could change the differentials openness.
I done the centre diff oil a few months ago, totally different car handles so much better. Gotta change out the factory servo for a better one and get some new wheels as they have all cracked Loving the videos man keep em coming
I give you credit man. Your the first I have ever seen truly bashing that thing other than Kevin Talbot. Don’t worry about those tires ballooning. I would grow mine in the front on my X Maxx and they always held up. Fill that front diff with 50k, 60k if you are using a good servo like a beast 1000 or 2000
Hey AJ! I finally bought it! Got a Losi DBXLE2.0 for my bday! How’s it up hold up so far since you’ve had it? Any recommendations out the box? I’ve seen some of your others reviews, later when I break the chassis braces I’ll replace them with the aluminum ones. I went 500k for center diff as well. Tighten up all the screws on the bottom of the chassis, am I missing anything? TIA!! HAPPY THANKSGIVING 2022!!!
You hit the high points already. Keep an eye on the pinion and check for loosening screws as time progresses, and as always, avoid any sudden stops from full speed. Great rig. Love ours. Thanks for asking. AJ
I really had very little contact with the body. Only when I hadn't done the diff yet and when the front tires overspun while turning. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to put extenders on it, but, keep in mind, the further from center you get the tires, the easier it is to break stuff; arms and such. Since they had almost no contact with the truck itself, and since the rig handles awesome with them on it, I think we'll leave it as is. PS, this isn't the only tires and wheels we are running on it, we have others for differing applications. Thanks for the comment and the question. AJ
They work, that much is true. I still love the stock ones, but the new ones give much more traction and control. I hear the Badlands are good too. Thanks for commenting. AJ
I really do like this truck…not sure I’m totally sold on it yet as a basher for me but I also want to add a 1/5 scale to my small collection soon….great video and thanks for the diff fluid comparison with great visuals of how that effects the tire ballooning
For the size of the vehicle I'm shocked at how resilient it is. I've always loved the Losi cars, and this one is no different. If you've seen the different videos on the channel for this car you know how hard we run them, and this one held up great. the body does clack when you land it, and I think it's due to the cage inside of it adding weight, but you get used to that very quickly, or at least I did. I'm glad you're taking your time and doing your research before buying a 1/5th scale. Research is key to getting what you really want. Best of luck choosing. And...thanks for the comment. AJ
They did cause more heat build up and required temp watching. They are fun and give more rotation in the air, but cost performance in different areas. We use them now and then, but not as much as the stock tires. Thanks for asking, AJ
Hey AJ, Great vids! Just subbed, as I've been watching quite a bit of your channel lately. I just ordered the DBXLE 2.0. I have a few questions tho. I have four 8s "1/5" scales rc's, been in the hobby over 15 years, never owned a Losi, always wanted one, so I finally pulled the trigger. My question is, in all my 8s rigs, I run near 1 to 1 gearing and 20 million center diff oil. Seems to be great for the Outcast EXB 8s and Kraton EXB 8s as well. Usually 300k in the rear and 1 million up front. I run the Max 5, 800kv combo in those rigs. Is this Losi internally geared differently than the Arrma's? I see most people running tiny pinions, and low diff weights in this rig, compared to what I am used to. I run 39t spur and 37t pinion. I see the DBXLe comes with a 50t spur, much like the 8th scale rigs I own. Just wondering if you had any advise on what other pinion and/or spurs would work with this rig. Do you happen to know if the final gear ratio is wildly different than the Arrma's, and that's why people are running such different gearing and diff weights? I will be running the Max 5, 800kv combo in this as well. Thanks for all your help! Keep up the great work!
So far we've only run the stock setup, mostly for the channel because of our format here. Personally, I don't like to stiffen the 1/5th scale rigs up in the diffs department too much because I like the ability to bleed off the extra energy when the rig hits the ground after some good air. I find it helps the rig last longer between services and we seem to break fewer parts unless we land under full power; which kills everything most of the time. As far as the gearing goes, I can't actually answer that one yet because we've only recently jumped into the 1/5th scale category, and our experience in that arena is (although extensive within the hobby) not that advanced yet. If you happen to find the answer to your question, please let us know your findings, we would greatly appreciate it. As it goes, we only answer questions we can truthfully answer; we're not the kind who guesses and talks about things we haven't gotten experience in yet. I wish we could be more help on the matter. I will say this, the DBXL-E 2.0 is an awesome rig, even with the stock configuration, but I would definitely upgrade the center braces straight out of the box; the stock ones do not hold up.😎👍
Hey bud months later how are you liking the bigger tires/wheels? I was thinking of going with either the 8s outcast wheels or some duratrax lock ups. Are you still running these? And did you ever post that diff mod video?
I love this car so much ! Great video and content on the channel. You got my subscription. Already have its baby brother (tenacity DB Pro) but I am afraid going to the DBXL is be too big of a gap in terms of required driving skills and space needed. Might go for something in between like an Arrma Mojave first. Any thoughts on that ?
Driving skill comes with practice, as long as you have the room ( which is needed for this rig ), you'll do fine. Just don't hit anybody or yourself, it hurts like hell and it'll put you on the ground.
@@AJJAMStudios Yep, mine in it's current build weighs 37lbs. I also have an 18t pinion and 46t spur, a leopard 58113 870kv motor and the max 5 esc. I've done 59mph on grass. That weight will defiantly break bones if hit by it.
Get the Mojave First and if your still keen get the dbxle it's really huge and if you can tame the Mojave then you will be ready for a dbxle 👍 they are both great machine's ✌️
Great video, Im going to try the 500k oil.I just got mine and I notice the back wheels are tilted inward if you're looking at the vehicle from front to back. When looking at the vehicle coming at you, you can clearly see the back wheels are tilted inwards and the front are straight and the running radius is terrible (left turns) ordered the second servo setup. Any suggestions on the back wheels and how they sit and can be adjusted would be appreciated, thanx in advance...>Stay Safe
My camber is tipped in at the rear of the car as well, and that helps with handling and stability under power. As far as the steering goes, I'm upgrading the servo right now to combat the sluggish and sometimes unpredictable steering of the car. Also, the front tires should be toed out slightly, not straight, this helps with responsiveness and turning under power. And, add to that, I find that when you increase the tire size the stock servo simply doesn't hold up very well. The manual is kind of vague about how the camber and such is to be setup on this car, but the Losi TLR Typhon Manual goes into great detail on the subject. I recommend you try and download a copy for it for yourself if you can find it online, I find it indispensable. Thanks for asking. 😎👍
We use 500K weight diff oil for the center diff, the brand is not overly important. We picked up some at our local hobby store and never paid attention to the brand because they all seem to work equally well. It's the weight that matters most. Thanks for asking. 😎👍
Another thing you'll find out is when those tires balloon and you turn (especially to the right ) they will grab the bottom of the body and bend or rip it. I'd suggest getting the hub extenders. I learned from personal experience. As far as the servo goes, the stock specktrum servo didn't last 30 mins when new.
@@Blueknight1960 I've put the hitec d845 in my dbxle 2.0,08s exb, and kraton 8s... It's my fav 5th scale and servo for the price.. Hasn't failed Me yet
I greatly appreciate your video. I learned something about the difference the differential fluid makes. Kindly put in the link where to get the differential oil you used, as well as the tools used for the mods, I think it's called a step bit? Thanks!
You should be able to pick up all of that at your local hobby shop. 500k diff oil, which you can get on eBay, and metric hex drivers, which are also found on eBay. Thank you for asking. 😎👍
Good advise. The stock servo did work for a while, although it was slow in responding, but we blew it out later during another video. We swapped it out with an upgraded version and the difference is amazing. Thanks for the comment. AJ
These tires look amazing! Seeing as these are (apparently) bead-locs and would be relatively easy to tape I assume you have a reason for not doing it? Or was it that the diff oil change was going to be done anyways and took care of the problem?
I wish some company out there would make a tire for this truck that doesn't balloon like crazy. I put a castle xlx2 1100kv in my truck and I had to turn the power down low as possible and tires still balloon like crazy.
I noticed a marked improvement with 500k, so it still softens the impact to the internals when you land unlike really stiff fluids like 5mil. The tire ballooning is more controlled and the car has better launch capabilities. I'd give that a try and see if it helps. You can always stiffen it up some if you think you need it. Locking the center diff, however, is a bad thing. It only serves to break components like drive shafts and drive cups when impact with the ground occurs; like landing jumps. Also, I recommend not being on the throttle when you land, as it has the potential to ruin your running gear because of the added forces applied during landing. "Give" has to be in there someplace for longevity to happen, and the center diff helps spread that energy without tearing up your system. I hope this helps. AJ
