- It is always nice to drive a car with a manual transmission up our favorite road, and this time, we are very thankful to Mr. Leon Mok for the loan of his newly-acquired Suzuki Swift Sport 1.4 Turbo.
It took some hunting down, but Leon managed to get a Swift Sport Manual transmission off a grey-importer in the Klang Valley. The car is in very good condition, and everything was stock at the time of testing.
Apparently, Leon had already taken the car up to Genting on his own a couple of times, and he wanted to see how it performs in the hands of YS Khong.
Of course I jumped at the opportunity, and that is how this video was made.
All things said and done, the Swift Sport is a nice little pocket rocket that is surprisingly economical on fuel, and handles quite well - you can see for yourself in the video - please enjoy it, and let us have your comments below.

Uncle YS, great footwork with the pedals, double clutching, toe/heel action… almost lost art of driving a manual in these days of DSG and auto gear boxes. Also goes to prove that a small car with a punchy engine still delivers lots of driving pleasure.
I really enjoy my manual car. problem is nowadays, so hard to get ordinary car with manual transmission. either u end up with base model proton saga or need to sell ur kidney to own civic type r.

Recently I started considering changing my car (will be leaving my old Ibiza to my son who is now of driving age) and was looking at the Swift Sport.

Add some stiffer engine mount and rear anti roll bar, transformed the car. I can also see a HKS Power Editor in the engine bay? Hope it run on 98 octane with the added boost. Enjoy the car!

Our SSS was delivered in July. I wasn't brave enough to go for Champion Yellow so it is Speedy Blue. The car is only available with the 6 speed manual. The ratios are well chosen to allow you to use the performance, or for long distance on Motorways, relaxing with cruise control. We usually get 51 + mpg and when you need it then it can go .I have resisted getting it mapped 😂

Drive this on auto with paddle shift . This car almost par with my mini cooper 2016 Countryman S . 1 gear to another is a snap . Mindblown
This is a manual, no padfle shifts, feet required.

I think you really had to fight the turbo lag in this car + steep hills
It's a small turbo, so not that much lag. But 140ps is just 140ps, lol. Still, each car has its limits, and we need to know where that is.

Feel like getting one. But still not gonna let go of my ZC31S 🤣 boy that car never fails to disappoint me for 14 years! Eventhough it drinks quite amount of fuel at 10km/liter. Hahaha! Uncle seem focused driving this car. Is it softer than the older Swifts?
I get around 7km/liter from my ZC32S, still a very fun car to drive. When I drove ZC31S I really felt it could use a 6 speed gearbox.

Yes, that is because of our camera rig.
I have one of these, let the rpm drop a bit more in the tighter corners, they actually pull harder at lower rpm due to the tiny turbo. Try it you’ll thank me.
Need to keep the speed up, not slow down to feel the boost😄

Would be great if you team up with a reliable tuning shop. For those prefer good ride can correct the under steer n soft suspension issues….

A fwd car basically understeers. If you get a waggly tail, stiffening the rear up helps. A stiffer rear end relative to the front reduces oversteer tendencies, but promotes understeer - so the balance between the rear and front also plays a part. Too much understeer is also not good.

Car is understeery, tail is waggly, engine out of breath at 5k rpm, member here doesn't care nor aware none of that, member here just worry having a broken ac compressor after such legendary drive 😂 stop messing wit the ac dials son u disturbing uncle legend Khong driving

The tyre size may changes the whole car behavior to be more prone to understeer. When uncle says its a fun car to drive doesn't mean it is easy to drive it. 🤭Uncle handle the car like a champ.
Absolutely. The tyres on this truck are ATs - not the best for grip.

Uncle YS sports car with Torsion Beam eg megane/swift/clio tends to understeer. Do the car is fun compare to multi link car like civic/satria/86 etc? Can they compete in corner?
This chassis behaved quite well, in my opinion.

How did you get a manual version? Naza is only selling a 6AT on their website.
This car was bought from another importer, not Naza. It is a recond unit.

Mr Khong, is this more engaging for you compared to the m2 comp ? I had a bmw before my swift sport and find myself enjoying the drive alot more. Slower yes, but alot more fun, and you never ever have to pop the bonnet ! On bumpy Malaysian b roads, that supple but well damped suspension makes it super capable.
Hahaha, how can this be more engaging than the M2 Competition? I assume your BMW was not an M2C. The M2C is at a different level.
@@YSKhongDriving yeah mine was a f20 m135i with the 8sp zf. I think alot of the engagement is because of the manual transmission. And the Swift sport stock suspension runs rings round the m135i.
@@marcwang4830 in all fairness Marc, the M135i suspension has to deal with 500kg more weight and close to 160 more horses. Its subjectively easier to balance a lightweight car vs a much heavier car.
@@niltrams but heavier cars like the m2, m3, jag XF, and even dodge challenger which i had the pleasure to drive remain far more planted. I blame the poorly damped electro m135 dampers and flexi bushing, coupled with swb and a heavy ass. i think these were later fixed in the lci m135/m140. Good to see u here buddy!
Torsion beam rear sus does not seem to instill a lot of confidence, on paper.
How does it handle on uneven road when cornering?

As far as I know, the Honda Civic FE has a 1.5 liter turbo that has 182 PS, 240 Nm torque, and runs 18 inch wheels, and you can watch both the videos going up the same road.
So if you think the FE in slower, or lacking in performance versus this, you are absolutely entitled to your own opinion, just as I am to mine.

sir, do you feel any difference while doing rev matching with AC turned ON and AC turned OFF ?
The AC was on all the time. Rev matching is rev matching, nothing to do with AC, although the compressor load may have a very slight effect, in that the engine wants to slow down faster.
I see the guy sometimes press the center console button....
