I have a the non-hybrid ZC33S model from 2019, and I agree with the other owners on here, it's amazing value for money. I changed the factory Continental tyres to Goodyear Eagle F1's and they added a lot more feel to the steering but other than that it's stock. I fitted Michelin Pilot Sport tires on the Swift Sport. They already last 35000 km and are still going. On the Abarth even the expensive Continental Premium Contact 6 where totally rubbish on the front ater only 18000 km. -.-

Not sure where that 9second figure is from but these should do 0-100km/h 7.3 seconds for the manual and about 7.01 for the auto (as measured in independent testing anyway). They make a more sense here in Australia as the Swift Sport is quite a bit cheaper than a Fiesta ST, i20N or Abarth 595 and Suzuki has a much better reputation for reliability than most of those here too.
9,1 was the time suzuki declared officially. I've have a hybrid and got 8.1 secs with battery discarged. Consider that i'm not a professional driver, lost a bit because of traction wheel spinning. for the The previous model suzuki declared 8.1 but it was realistically a 7.2 secs. So if for this suzuki declare a 9.1 sec i expect 8.1 a real time.

@@yvalsondronkers6259 would you say the hybrid is worth the extra money over the earlier non-hybrid? Is there actually much difference in performance (both stock & mapped)? Is the hybrid still as reliable with the mhev system/batteries?
Manufacturers lie about bhp, mpg and 0-60 for various reasons. The Swift, supposedly dynos at 165bhp weighing around a tonne. Another car I owned was 230bhp except in reality it was 190bhp.
My 2008 sx4 dont know how to broken . Going strong till today . Respect sx4 like crazy better than my mini that suck alot of money . Our family love this sx4 we using it alot everyday because of reliability ❤
It’s a shame they dumbed down the performance and increased the price so much. When they were about £15k and 0-60 in 8 sec it made quite a bit of sense given the additional practicality, but now it’s not even warm.
@@alexisamtosta there used to be deals for around £14,600 though. Local dealers had some with delivery miles at that price and also could be ordered with discount through places like car wow or drive the deal for around £15,500. That is pre ‘hybrid’.
The comments of those who hate this car just because they see the writing 0Hybrid” and read the technical data provided by Suzuki make me laugh, but they don't know what they are talking about, and evidently they haven't had the opportunity to drive it… I like the first times I was very pissed, now I just laugh... 😂 The real 0-100 of this Suzuki is 7.5 seconds...
Like a Vauxhall, the Fiat/Abarth will be falling apart when it has a few miles on it. The Suzuki won't. I wouldn't want an Abarth if it was offered to me free.
I bought one of the first swift sport 1.4T's - non hybrid BEFORE launch it was delivered in July 2018. About £15800 with the introductory launch discount etc.... (I saw a yellow sport on a transporter before the official launch and popped into the local dealership and it was there - so had a test drive before the launch and ordered it) Specs say it was good for 7.8 0-60 however that was with 138bhp yet many sport owners who put it on a dyno were getting 150bhp, if you put 99 ron petrol in you get even more power, so 7.1 0-60 is possible. If I had to choose now I'd not buy one as the price/performance ration has really gone south. fiat 500/abarth 2 doors - too small, and not the best for reliability, but I do admire those I see and the owners they have to be real car nuts 👍to live with the foibles you get owning a sporty Italian car. I'm just not that brave. 🤫
This will last far longer than an Abarth, it’s comfier too & more toys. But it’s a lot of money. Find a pre 2019 1.0 booster jet 3 cylinder. 109 bhp and still a lot of fun to drive, I’ve got the auto and it’s like a little go cart.
The Swifts reliability is light years ahead of any Fiat product. Having a fun vehicle to drive is quickly dulled when it starts rattling itself apart and becomes highly unreliable really fast.
I know what you mean. Had a 500 and 595 abarth together 8,5 years of experience. the abarth had all sorts of quality issues from new until its end. the adaptive koni dampers were ratteling like hell, the clutch pedal fell down overnight and the body parts got loose after half a month and from then on all few weeks again...
the Suzuki Swift Sport 1.4L Turbo Mild Hybrid is literally the best car you could get for that price! Definitely one of the best options for a first car 😁😁
I got a hybrid baseline swift as a delivery driver and i can tell you now, the plastic-y interior isn't an issue for me because the bits youre actually touching are all pretty nice quality. the wheel, the handles, the shifter, etc. i'm down on power over the sport, obviously, but the fuel mileage is well into the 60s MPG UK. i've never driven a car i've loved as much, apart from maybe the formula forward car croft circuit offers as a rental... and well, thats a racing car
I've just got rid of an Abarth 595 Competizione after a year of ownership. Sure, it was a very fun thing to drive but round me, in East Lancs, it was just nowhere near the correct balance between fun and practicality that meant it spent a lot of time in the garage and it just wasn't suitable for a lot of things. For me the video didn't seem to touch on some of the real world benefits of the Swift (5-doors, a 6-spd box). My friend runs one of the non-MHEV versions and I honestly wish I'd bought it instead of the 595. Yes, the Monza exhaust sounds fantastic, until you're stuck in traffic outside of a school. I'm actively trying to convince my wife that the Swift Sport would be a good alternative for our other vehicle.
I've owned one for about 3 months now and I love mine the hybrid one is a bit pointless tbh, but the non hybrid is much faster than 9 secs to 60, more like 7, and as ctc have proved with there's the stock engine can take 270 hp. So there's plenty of gains for tuning , suzuki also underquoted the bhp as stock ones regularly dyno 150hp not 130hp.Yes the suzuki infotainment is crap and stock they are a bit muted, but I'd take a guess they handle much better than a abarth, plus loads of kit, reliable and much more car for the money, seems a bit of a biased review from a ex abarth owner 🤷♂️
I have a 2022 Swift sport, auto, 150HP standard, 7.1 0 to 100. Japan made,. Here in NZ we pay the equivalent of 15k UK pounds so if you are paying 22k you are getting ripped off, I wouldn't buy a hybrid sport as you are paying more for less performance and negligible fuel savings,
Why on earth would you grab the hybrid sport and compare to the 595? Surely you would get a better comparison using the non hybrid which is quite a bit quicker and with a simple remap, goes some for a budget car
I had choice between Suzuki Swift Sport mine is 1.4 no hybrid. I have driven abarth 595 t-jet. Being over 6ft the Swift suits me better. Would have drive hybrid sport. The Swift sport without hybrid just needs few extras to enhance power. I would agree though the Swift sport lacks in places compared to Abarth vice versa.
Im also over 6ft and definetly this car is better for a person that tall. Now, the Grande Punto Abarth and the Abarth Evo, are excellent for tall folks too
@@andrewrodgers8052 sorry misread your comment , I also have a 2019 non hybrid , Only done a remap on it though but I did get to 171hp with it. That being said the biggest difference is the torque. Took it to a quarter mile strip literally just for a laugh and it is neck and neck with my work mates 2020 fiesta ST I had better results launching from second gear , Think maybe a better driver could shave a few tenths of my 14.8 time.
I can see these as a great 2nd or maybe 1st car for an enthusiasts as well these being a popular option for remaps as well. Persoanly speaking with a 1.4t running 170 I think it would do wonders for the car as long as the engine can handle it, much like the fiat punto 1.4t's
Had the Abarth 500 gr8 fun traded it for the Mk2 SSS. Had reliability issues with the A500 , Gearbox 1st gear, turbo intercooler, both went south. Thankfully sorted under warrenty. the Swift Sport, was plenty fun and way more reliable.
I bought my wife at the time a new 21plate had the suzuki main dealers put me on a performance aftermarket system induction kit and remapped so the warranty wasn't effected the car is way better in every way than the abarth ,
I've got the 2012 Sport and it's a BLAST to drive. + It's reliable as heck. I don't know about this one tho .. :D I rather have a bigger engine that revs up to 7 100RPM and an LPG system than a direct injection turbo engine! :D
Interesting. Im getting 38mpg from fastish B road commuting. What mpg u getting from LPG? 35ish? Did you do any additional mapping for performance at the same time?
The Swift Sport is chipped to achieve 201 bhp.Driven both, the 595 is amazing but really not at all practical. The Swift with 201 bhp is also brilliant and you can fit 4 peeps comfortably. They are both nice cars but the boosted Swift just about nips it.
The steering does seem very numb to start with. After you have driven the car for a while you find you are fine with it. It goes a lot better than Suzuki's numbers suggest especially in the mid range where the turbo is your friend. We bought ours as a practical everyday driver, but with a bit of go. We already have two "toys" so the Fiat didn't work. I agree for what it's designed to do, the Arbarth is brilliant.
I have driven both cars and I couldn't agree with the conclusion more! Swift sport definately feels cheaper but has its own charm. Swift would be a ripper of a first car but quality and character goes to the abarth .....no bias!
I had the none hybrid then got the hybrid, and hardly any difference to me, can got around 7.5 0-60 if I drive it correctly and the hybrid is definitely faster setting off then my none hybrid was. Would have the Swift Sport over the Arbath any day.
Nah. You didn't get even close to the epicness of lightweight Swift Sport handling. I have the non-hybrid version @ 975kg. I've had run ins with Abarths on my many hoons. None of which managed to find the balls to keep up. 😆lol.
Why did you even bother making this report. It was obvious you had made your mind up that you preferred the unreliable Fiat. The Suzuki does not cost anywhere as much the Fiat where I come from and is only just over 16000 pounds.
You need to compare the Abarth to the previous version with the extra power ideally. Plus I don't think you even mentioned a crucial ownership trait that is reliability.
Love the Swift Sport, though just changed mine for a i20N . Swift Sport is a cracking car and is very underated. 0-60 on mine (hybrid) was under 8 sec.
I thought about a Swift and Twingo Sport. I went for the Abarth and ended up having 4! I think the Swift is decent, but the Abarth had a factor that you can't design, the smile factor.
the smile factort quick disappers when the abarth spends more time at the dealers garage to fix all sorts of quality and power issues. they are a real disaster.
For ME the Suzuki Swift Sport is the new 205 Gti...thats why i bought one I had a daily 205 1.9 Gti for 15 years: 860 kg 130 bhp The SSS (non hybrid): 945 kg and "140" bhp...more like 155-160 bhp and does 17 km/l The Swift pulls so much harder than the 205 Gti ever did The Swift OEM suspension is a bit to comfy but that can be fixed
Not watched a Stef ABtv video in years, like I think it must've been 2019 or 2020 so nice to watch another one. I'm really not sure about your take on this as it feels like a bit of a sponsored review where you can't be fully critical. You can get a 140ps Fiesta ST-Line from the previous generation with lower mileage for around half the cost of this. Yes, it doesn't have the fanciest infotainment system or interior but it's got a better engine and it's like a mini ST. Or you could even just get a full on ST, or go for a Focus version which has better interior with the Sync 3 system etc. I don't think anyone looking for their first car is going to splurge 23k on one of these. Even me being fortunate to get my ST-Line from new around 6 years ago, it was not over 20k, and you're heading into i20N/i30N territory or something like a Golf GTi surely for this kind of money.
"Better engine"? Define better... Suzuki's engine is far more reliable and cheaper on fuel..... Fiesta has a few more PS, big deal.... Have fun repairing it when it breaks down....
Basically the same engine as the Abarth. The Adam S and VXR is an Abarth engine. I love this one and the 595, 695, etc. But because of my height, I would buy one of these instead of an Abarth. This if brand new. Used, I would definetly go for an Abarth Evo. Its the nicest Abarth of all. This Swift if very good for tall people and very confortable too. But definetly an Abarth stands out more. Someone starts an Abarth and from a good distance, you know its an Abarth.
Maybe it's because I live in Italy and see 595s every day, but the swift looks much better to me. The Abarth is extremely reliable too but will never be as fuel efficient as the Suzuki (even the non Hybrid). As far as performance goes, let's just say that the old one without the hybrid system would have easily kept up with the Abarth
I had the old Sport, the NZ. It could keep up with the Abarth until 160 kph. At 190 kph the Sport NZ ran out of power where the Abarth with its Turbo pushed further easy!
Been Audi VW and Merc most my life. Now I need to watch my pennies (older age) I dumped the gti golf’s for Suzuki non hybrid sport, Touareg has turned into a Mazda cx9 and it’s only the Merc Ute left (it’s a Navara anyway lol). Main reason was I now can’t afford the depreciation every 3 years, and qaulity is now shocking on German cars…honestly it’s like and old English car once it’s got a few miles on it
Had a choice in 2018 for the non hybrid one or a 1 Yr old Polo gti, both 17k Took the polo with no regrets The Suzuki's great at 17k but for 22k you may as well spend a little more for Fiesta st or i20N
It's a different concept -- detuning peak power can be for many reasons. The 7-year extended warranty, trying to lower insurance premiums for its target age group market, even getting round government tax systems in some countries that have a factor for vehicle power. When they aren't shipping this model in vast enough quantities to do too much customisation of power tunes from factory, it makes perfect sense to have a strong and economical engine as a base, purposefully detune its peaks (or even downplay its official performance figures), but leave in the obvious possibility for tuning (as this car has been for over a decade - a tuner car). Reviewers coming in to the lightest hot hatch on the market with an above average handling and manual gearbox, then dissing it for official straight line speed specs, aren't doing their jobs. The point of the SSS is to bring the hot (or warm, if you insist) hatch to as many people as possible. It's just like how the Mazda 3 in the UK could have come with a 160hp maximum, but deliberately chose to limit the top end to 120hp on the 2.0L. It's a smart, considered and subtle approach and as you clearly felt, the point of the car lies in other strengths, so it felt no need to boast regardless of a 7.5, 8 or 9s century sprint. The buyers who know why, will know.
You should compare the 32s (the old shape) 1.6 N/A (it loves getting its teeth kicked in) to the 595. I have had both. 595 noise and faster yes. 32s better handling, comfort, toys yes.
I have the non-hybrid mapped with an induction kit and phsst noise maker. Keeps up with my son's i20n from 30-silly speed. The LSD in his makes it unfair for launches :D Still get avg 49mpg with maybe 1/3 tank going quicker each time I fill up. Exhaust sounds rubbish though.
I remembered I made a comment here a few months back saying it was bad value and now it actually may be an option for my next car lol but definitely not a new one at 23k still, but you can pick up a 2018 which doesn't seem much different for around 10k less
Guys are misinformed here. I agree that Suzuki is reliable but this peculiar Fiat engine (1.4 TJet not Multiair) is super reliable. It’s full of Abarth with 180K km running wild in Italy, modified or not. I did exactly this research before buying the Abarth, since reliability is my number one deciding factor
I was about to buy a new Abarth 595 back in 2020, but when the pandemic hit wasn't able to get one I took a Suzuki Swift Sport for a test drive about a year later as they still didn't have Abarth's in Perth Australia, but ultimately ended up getting a 2012 Citroen DS4 instead
9 months ago, I had the choice between one of these and a 595 Turismo, thanks for reassuring me that I made the right decision. I think the price on the Swifts is just way too high now considering what Abarth can offer for the money in terms of performance and just overall enjoyment, plus the community factor, the meets etc.

My 2008 sx4 dont know how to broken . Going strong till today . Respect sx4 like crazy better than my mini that suck alot of money . Our family love this sx4 we using it alot everyday because of reliability ❤
The wheel design is clever, they certainly look bigger than 17's
It’s a shame they dumbed down the performance and increased the price so much. When they were about £15k and 0-60 in 8 sec it made quite a bit of sense given the additional practicality, but now it’s not even warm.
These ones brand new were average os 18k
@@alexisamtosta there used to be deals for around £14,600 though. Local dealers had some with delivery miles at that price and also could be ordered with discount through places like car wow or drive the deal for around £15,500. That is pre ‘hybrid’.
I believe that the manufacturers statistics are lower than reality. Probably to make it easier to insure. They supposedly dyno around 165bhp.
What would you buy both are same price now 2nd hand Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1750 TBi Veloce or Suzuki Swift?
That hybrid system pushes the price up😮
7:43 Are the dials broken? they don't move at all while you can hear him accelerating???
You can remap these to 175hp and 320nm, might be fun
Right. He prolly says Abarth is more exciting because of a sponsorship of some kind 😂😂
This guy is the only guy who doesn't like the swift sport 1.4 turbo lol.
Hands down the Suzuki swift sport is a better car all round.
I've owned one for about 3 months now and I love mine the hybrid one is a bit pointless tbh, but the non hybrid is much faster than 9 secs to 60, more like 7, and as ctc have proved with there's the stock engine can take 270 hp. So there's plenty of gains for tuning , suzuki also underquoted the bhp as stock ones regularly dyno 150hp not 130hp.Yes the suzuki infotainment is crap and stock they are a bit muted, but I'd take a guess they handle much better than a abarth, plus loads of kit, reliable and much more car for the money, seems a bit of a biased review from a ex abarth owner 🤷♂️
as an ex Abarth owner for 8,5 years now driving the 2018 Swift Sport I can confirm your experiences. 🙂
Great video, next you should try the Mazda Demio.
I would have this Suzuki over the Abarth any day !
It will live long enough to see an Italian shitbox Abath gets rebuilt 3 times
I have a 2022 Swift sport, auto, 150HP standard, 7.1 0 to 100. Japan made,. Here in NZ we pay the equivalent of 15k UK pounds so if you are paying 22k you are getting ripped off, I wouldn't buy a hybrid sport as you are paying more for less performance and negligible fuel savings,
Why on earth would you grab the hybrid sport and compare to the 595? Surely you would get a better comparison using the non hybrid which is quite a bit quicker and with a simple remap, goes some for a budget car
Are you keeping your foot on the petrol while change gears? Sounds like it's over revving every time you change.
Now, the Grande Punto Abarth and the Abarth Evo, are excellent for tall folks too
Hate to tell you this but the non hybrid is the better more powerful car
@@Jasontvnd9 which is why I have 2019 no hybrid which has far more tuning potential.
@@andrewrodgers8052 sorry misread your comment , I also have a 2019 non hybrid , Only done a remap on it though but I did get to 171hp with it.
That being said the biggest difference is the torque.
Took it to a quarter mile strip literally just for a laugh and it is neck and neck with my work mates 2020 fiesta ST
I had better results launching from second gear , Think maybe a better driver could shave a few tenths of my 14.8 time.
@@Jasontvnd9 reckon remap on mine be quite quick.
Another benefit of the Suzuki is that it appears to have a more comfortable back seat.
500 Abarth Is a panda with some horsepower and hard suspension. Yes Is funny but Is a panda 👀👀
Nice review, would have preferred to see how the non hybrid compares to the Abarth though
I know them both, the Abarth 500 and 595 and the Swift Sport NZ and the new AZ. What do you want to know? 🙂
Cool looking car Stef 👍👍
non hybrid is the one, the hybrid is actually a downgrade in performance. thanks for the video!
The Swift Sport is chipped to achieve 201 bhp.Driven both, the 595 is amazing but really not at all practical. The Swift with 201 bhp is also brilliant and you can fit 4 peeps comfortably. They are both nice cars but the boosted Swift just about nips it.
Had to opt for the Swift Sport because for us vertically gifted folk, the Abarth seats don’t go low enough..
I sold my Abarth 595 Turismo and I bought a Suzuki Swift Sport Hybrid and I am happy.
I had the none hybrid then got the hybrid, and hardly any difference to me, can got around 7.5 0-60 if I drive it correctly and the hybrid is definitely faster setting off then my none hybrid was. Would have the Swift Sport over the Arbath any day.
as an italian, i say that it’s better than an aborth, because it doesn’t somersaults as an aborth
Nah. You didn't get even close to the epicness of lightweight Swift Sport handling. I have the non-hybrid version @ 975kg. I've had run ins with Abarths on my many hoons. None of which managed to find the balls to keep up. 😆lol.
Looking at getting the glx 2009 1.4 i think but insurance will run me about 2800 a year
Why did you even bother making this report.
That's because Suzuki have a much better reputation for reliability and he's not even trying to hide his bias. They're also easier to work on.
Yup Abarth is beast and beauty
the smile factort quick disappers when the abarth spends more time at the dealers garage to fix all sorts of quality and power issues. they are a real disaster.
The swift sport with the hybrid system is a warm hatch. The model without it is a bit warmer, closer to untouchable hot.
It a good option if you find the Abarth a bit much for daily driver.
I do believe that the non-hybrid version is more fun to drive with the 0-60 in the 7.1/7.3 seconds range that I manage to get. 🙂👌
I’m not sure why it’s heaps slower. If anything it should be quicker than the non hybrid swift sport.
@@levitrevisan2834 I think it's because the hybrid version is heavier. Also, the manual is slower than the auto at 0-60
In Germany the automatic transmission is not even being offered.@@cfa2510
For ME the Suzuki Swift Sport is the new 205 Gti...thats why i bought one
I had a daily 205 1.9 Gti for 15 years: 860 kg 130 bhp
The SSS (non hybrid): 945 kg and "140" bhp...more like 155-160 bhp and does 17 km/l
The Swift pulls so much harder than the 205 Gti ever did
The Swift OEM suspension is a bit to comfy but that can be fixed
Abarth Punto Evo looks more better to me 🔥
Quality-wise ? Suzuki has japanese factory made engine ? Who can argue with that ?
I'm kenya and I've never heard of " abarth" i had a hard time figuring out what that was. Suzuki all day dude.
I noticed one of these only yesterday thought it is a cool little car but prefer the old shape better
I prefer Abarth Punto Evo over swift sports
Maybe it's because I live in Italy and see 595s every day, but the swift looks much better to me. The Abarth is extremely reliable too but will never be as fuel efficient as the Suzuki (even the non Hybrid).
As far as performance goes, let's just say that the old one without the hybrid system would have easily kept up with the Abarth
I had the old Sport, the NZ. It could keep up with the Abarth until 160 kph. At 190 kph the Sport NZ ran out of power where the Abarth with its Turbo pushed further easy!
A better comparison would be with the swift sport as it was pre mild hybrid as that dulls performance.
Been Audi VW and Merc most my life. Now I need to watch my pennies (older age) I dumped the gti golf’s for Suzuki non hybrid sport, Touareg has turned into a Mazda cx9 and it’s only the Merc Ute left (it’s a Navara anyway lol).
Main reason was I now can’t afford the depreciation every 3 years, and qaulity is now shocking on German cars…honestly it’s like and old English car once it’s got a few miles on it
Has anybody given the Suzuki 1.4 hybrid a Remap?
Yes
Had a choice in 2018 for the non hybrid one or a 1 Yr old Polo gti, both 17k
Took the polo with no regrets
The Suzuki's great at 17k but for 22k you may as well spend a little more for Fiesta st or i20N
The car from Nippon is nippy. Love it
You should compare the 32s (the old shape) 1.6 N/A (it loves getting its teeth kicked in) to the 595.
I own an Opel adam S! I know, they don't make these cars anymore, but I think it will be a cool comparison with an Fiat 500 Abarth
I remembered I made a comment here a few months back saying it was bad value and now it actually may be an option for my next car lol but definitely not a new one at 23k still, but you can pick up a 2018 which doesn't seem much different for around 10k less
I have Suzuki swift mild hybrid, if the mild hybrid lithium battery dies, can I still drive the car?
Guys are misinformed here. I agree that Suzuki is reliable but this peculiar Fiat engine (1.4 TJet not Multiair) is super reliable. It’s full of Abarth with 180K km running wild in Italy, modified or not. I did exactly this research before buying the Abarth, since reliability is my number one deciding factor
I was about to buy a new Abarth 595 back in 2020, but when the pandemic hit wasn't able to get one
I took a Suzuki Swift Sport for a test drive about a year later as they still didn't have Abarth's in Perth Australia, but ultimately ended up getting a 2012 Citroen DS4 instead
it looks like he cannot drive this car properly... its way lighter than the abarth... much more reliable, way more space to use. abarth is a shitbox
Swift looks better and more reliable.
A car never seen in America.
Suzuki should put their 4.4L V6 motorboat engine into a Swift
Trust me guys. 2 fiat abarth.
Both had an engine break around 30.000km...
Powerful engine but they kept the original transmission which isn't appreciate the engine power...at all
8 months after this video, in Italy, the list price is €25500 (they say 27.500 then give you a 2000 discount)...
Is the Abarth reliable as the Suzuki.
Thanks for the review very accurate 👍😀
Glad it was helpful!
@@StefABtv happy new year to you and family😀
The Swift Sport ACTUALLY do 0-100 km/ h in 6.8 seconds - the paddle shift auto that is.
Please correct you claim of 9.2 sec time. Waaaay out 😉👍
9 months ago, I had the choice between one of these and a 595 Turismo, thanks for reassuring me that I made the right decision. I think the price on the Swifts is just way too high now considering what Abarth can offer for the money in terms of performance and just overall enjoyment, plus the community factor, the meets etc.
And now unfortunately the Fiat will be worth peanuts compared to the less deprecating Suzuki.
Better than the Abarth from A To Z.
