BEST TUTORIAL EVER!!! No annoying ukulele music, AND super to follow instructions, which make a good scrunchie?? This is exactly what I was looking for.
This is incredible! I love how detailed you are and that you don't put it in 60x speed, I'm a visual person so I need to see what is exactly happening, I must admit, this tutorial really helped me
Thank you for a very straight forward method. Your tip about using 2 safety pins with the task is genius and I'll be using it for other things involving elastic in tubes of fabric too in future. Thanks again ❤️
Omg thank you! I’ve wanted to start sewing for the longest time but always get put off by overly complicated patterns (honestly they’re just jibberish to me) and this is perfect! Going to try it on an old pillow case for practise and then try in some better fabric
This is definitely the most easiest way of making scrunches from all the videos I’ve seen.thank you so much for making this vid I highly appreciate this
I use scrunchies everyday to keep my hair up. I don't like my hair in my face while I workout or cooking. Thank you for this tutorial. Easiest one so far quick and to the point.
I just made this as an addition to my fashion design final and I think it really finishes the whole look. Thank you for the tutorial! You definitely helped contribute to this A :)
Wow thanks! I’m only 11 and have a new business that me and my cousin run! It has really grown and I’ve even hired some people from around the neighborhood to help out! We’ve made over 1000 dollars in sales over the past 3 months and scrunches are my top seller! Next to hoodies and bunny hugs!
Thanks so much for showing us how to sew scrunchies! I'm doing an up-cycling/sewing workshop at my uni and we wanted to make scrunchies, so I'll use your video as a reference :)
So far I have made 3, 2 of which were sewn just now. The only bit I struggle with is the sewing of the ends of the elastic using the sewing machine, so I overstitched by hand. I am no seamstress by any means, but I am quite pleased with myself, I just hope our little granddaughter likes them and they fit her 🫢❤️🤣
Thank you for this well explained tutorial! I was gifted my Nan’s sewing machine and have never used one before so am hoping this might be an easy project to start with! 🥰🤞🏻
This is a great tutorial. Thank you. I feel like I will try to hand stitch the elastic together with a needle and thread rather than fight with the sewing machine haha.
A chopstick helps with turning the fabric from inside to outside. A narrow ruler also helps. Back in the 1990's I made a ton of these for my daughters.
I am a new sewer here. When I do the final step and sew it together my sewing machine always gets jammed. I then have to open it up, cut my scrunchie off the bundle of knots and start over:( do you know why it does that? Is it the tension? What is your tension set at?
It's hard to know without being able to see what's happening. It's possible the tension is off (I keep mine at 3, but all machines are different - try sewing on some scrap fabric and adjust the tension back and forth to see what the best setting is for your machine) Another possibility could be that the machine is not threaded correctly. The last thing I can think of is that the feed dogs (the little teeth that pull the fabric through) aren't working correctly. Sometimes with smaller projects, the fabric can be pulled down into the feed dogs causing jams. Try to gently pull the fabric through as you're sewing to prevent this. I hope one of these suggestions help. If anyone else has other ideas that would be helpful, please comment!
It could be the needle too. I had problems with that when I first started sewing, I changed the needle to the next strength up and it hasn't done it since. There's certain needles you need for the certain fabric you're using. Look at your manual and it will tell you what to use.
Sometimes the little piece the bobbin sits in can get twisted and kicked around, open it up and make sure it's in the right place. If it's messed up it can tangle the thread really bad and force it to stop sewing.
What do you think is better . Sewing the elastic or tying them together? Because a lot of store sold scrunchies just tie them together (I only know because I cut one up)
For this, I just used the edge of the presser foot as a guide. Or you could use the first line. As long as you have around 1/4 inch or larger seam, so it doesn’t come undone when turning, it will work fine.
Did you sew right across the elastic? When I make these I sew as far as I can across without going over the elastic and then I hand sew a few stitches. Idk why but the ones at the store allow elastic to move freely inside.
It's easier to turn casings like this if you put a ruler/pencil/chopstick/long straight stick like object etc. You just start to turn the first part over and the use the stick to push everything else through. You probably know this trick already but If not, it's a useful thing to know. 😊 It's great for turning narrow casings like when you make straps for a top.
i just got a sewing machine and wanted to try some simple things to sew and scruchies sounded fun. i cant wait to try it but is there a way to make it with a hair tie instead of hair elastic
@@AdventuresofaDIYMom i did find a way... i just cut my hair tie so it was basically just a piece of elastic and used your same method. It worked great!
I just went to micheals and got this same exact fabric for making this.( not on purpose)Then ended on this video!! What a coincidence lol. Love the vid tho

4.5 in x 22 in = 12 cm x 56 cm, 7.5 in = 19 cm elastic
Thanks so much for this!
I had the sudden idea to use all of my cute old pillowcases but never knew what to do with it. Scrunchies are an amazing idea!

Thank you so much!!! I loved the video! I finally found a better way to make scrunchies!💕
i used the exact same fabric but it had cute little apples on it
If you put a safety pin at the end of the scrunchie before turning it inside out it helps so much
thank you so much! still learning how to thread my sewing machine but will deffo be making these! :)
I was wondering at the end when you seal the scrunchie you do also go over the elastic on the inside? Or move it as you go down?
I just sew right over the elastic.
Thank you so much! @adventures of a diy mom

instructions were clear, made an awesome scrunchie
I did it. Super easy and beautiful. Fast to do. Only i use a 20x3 fabric since i didn't have much. But turned out exactly the same.

Thank you for this video! Question: why do you use a zig zag stich to sew the elastic ends together? What were to happen if you use a regular stich?
Mostly just personal preference. You can totally use a straight stitch instead!
I am a new sewer here. When I do the final step and sew it together my sewing machine always gets jammed. I then have to open it up, cut my scrunchie off the bundle of knots and start over:( do you know why it does that? Is it the tension? What is your tension set at?

Taylor Wolf whenever the scrunchies is on the final step make sure to back stitch it and cut the remaining line
Hi! Thank you for this. Very helpful. I just made one and i loved it.
Can we use store bought elastics for this too? Those black or brown elastics with the iron bits
Hi I have a question for you does any fabric work for this
You are really creative❤
What do you think is better . Sewing the elastic or tying them together? Because a lot of store sold scrunchies just tie them together (I only know because I cut one up)
can u please explain what line from the presserfoot it is because im not sure what it is. or is it just on the edge
For this, I just used the edge of the presser foot as a guide. Or you could use the first line. As long as you have around 1/4 inch or larger seam, so it doesn’t come undone when turning, it will work fine.
Okay thankyou!
Omg best sewing vid ever 🤩
Awww, thanks!
Thank you so much for this! I made them for all my friends
lucky i don't have any
The best scrunchie video I've seen! Do you think I can just do a knott of the elastic? I always have trouble sewing it when it's that small.
Yes, I think a knot would work. I would do a square knot to avoid it coming undone after it's all sewn together.
This video was very helpful!!
I'm glad you found it useful. Happy sewing!
@@AdventuresofaDIYMom Thanks!
I love them!
Thanks so much for this tutorial - is was very helpful. :)
So you let the final edge on the outside without sewing it?
thank you for making this video. it was very simple and helped me a lot!!
You’re welcome! Happy scrunchie making!!
Thanks your a great sewer and your projects are awesome 👏
One more question..do you use a 1/4” seam when finishing❓thanx again
I sew right on top of the existing stitching from the first step. Does that make sense?
Did you sew right across the elastic? When I make these I sew as far as I can across without going over the elastic and then I hand sew a few stitches. Idk why but the ones at the store allow elastic to move freely inside.
Yes, I do just sew over the elastic. I think you've got a good workaround to allow the elastic to move freely.
Great tip! Thanks!
Can i use rubber bands or hair ties instead of elastic
Thank you for this video. Please use an unsharpened pencil to turn it right side out.
Thank you for sharing 😊
To anyone wondering- you have to start with the pattern inside out 😁
thank you for video 🤩 do you wash and iron your fabrics before sewing?
I don’t wash before sewing. (You can if you want to). If the fabric is pretty wrinkled I would iron it, but if not, I don’t worry about it.
@@AdventuresofaDIYMom thank you for your answer. I will do as you say 😻💐
Hi! Thank you for the very informative video! What type fo sewing machine is this? Thank you!
I have a Singer brand machine. It's quite old and I don't know the model number. Any machine will work for this tutorial though.
Is there an alternative if I do have safety pins? 😬
What stitch and stitch length do you use? I'm new to sewing so I want to start with these and napkins to get use to using a machine.
I use a straight stitch. 2.5 stitch length
@@AdventuresofaDIYMom yay! Thank you. :)
When you do final stitching to close up..do you then sew over elastic as well❓thank you ..jan
Yes, I sew over the whole thing, including the elastic.
i just got a sewing machine and wanted to try some simple things to sew and scruchies sounded fun. i cant wait to try it but is there a way to make it with a hair tie instead of hair elastic

thank you so much. i sew and i want to make a business and i needed this.
What sewing machine are you using????❤️❤️ great video by the way!
It’s an old Singer (about 20 years old).
I’m not sure the model (I could look it up if needed) but they don’t make it anymore.
Amazing, easy to follow video x
Is it possible to make it on organza fabric kindly tell?
Yes it is possible. Because of the sheer nature of organza, you will be able to see the elastic through the scrunchie.
Any other way than the straight stitch across beaches it loses volume there?
You could hand sew all the way around.
