For me this was Gary Moore at the very top of his rock era - just brilliant. The Wild Frontier tour was his greatest and it was no surprise he reverted relatively shortly afterwards back to the Blues he was the master of. I was privileged to see him many times but Hammersmith 1987 will always have great memories of seeing a true guitarist at his absolute best. RIP Gary Moore, gone but not forgotten

It's not "rock", it's proper heavy metal.

@@geogeo2299 I'd argue his 80s work as a whole is hard rock, but this particular song (and a few more) definitely crosses over into heavy metal.

It doesn’t matter if Gary is playing hard rock, heavy metal, or blues/blues-rock. Gary is a master of the guitar and his versatility was a huge factor for me in why he’s my favorite guitarist and a big hero and influence on me.

I don't think it was any coincidence that Gary started to become more successful once Neil Carter joined the band, an excellent musician and song writer. I think you can look at the Victims of the Future through to After the War and Neil definitely was a big part of helping Gary really create songs and albums that were great.

    • @progmeup
      @progmeup Год назад +1

@@PFB1994 Corridors of Power showed that Gary could do albums on his own, but the tour following it was a bit weird with him first having a singer that disappeared quickly (Charlie Huhn), then one who played keyboards when he was not necessary, which was often (John Sloman), and then Gary having to handle all the vocals himself, which strained his voice.
Neil's versatility as a guitarist and keyboard player, not to mention a voice that sounded really close to Gary's in those days, really helped him to reproduce the sound of the albums with just four people.

KISS, Alice Cooper, Brian May etc etc. But I think this tour he did with Gary Moore is my favorite of all. They looked out from the fortress on the hill
There came a single warrior returning from the kill
The spoils of war hung from his horse's mane
The bloody heads of enemies that he had freshly slayed
They saw the face, the eyes so sullen
Could only be the young Cúchulain [koo-kull-in]
    Thunder rising, thunder rising
Thunder rising early in the morning
    Cities burning
    The world keeps turning
Thunder rising early in the morning
The son of Lugh MacEithleen knew no fear
For just one blow at any foe to tell his end was near
So many tried to mock this Celtic son
They taunted and they teased him till
He slayed them one by one
And so they came, and so they've fallen
At the hands of young Cúchulain
    Thunder rising, thunder rising
Thunder rising early in the morning
    Cities burning
    The world keeps turning
Thunder rising early in the morning
    Thunder rising, thunder rising
Thunder rising early in the morning
    Cities burning
    The world keeps turning
Thunder rising early in the morning
    Thunder rising, thunder rising

There are some traces of it on After the War (Blood of Emeralds in particular), and the instrumental part of Business as Usual also harkens back to this era. Sadly the Celtic Rock album he wanted to do in the 2000s never got finished, although we did get three new songs on the 2010 tour - Days of Heroes, Where Are You Now and Oh Wild One.

Cool clip.I saw Gary play just three months after this show at Wolfgang's in San Francisco.I was lucky,as I believe that was his last US tour.

Since I was a kid, I allways loved this song. My older brother played wild frontier album over and over again. I found this live performance while ago, and thought at first, that it's just music video that has audio track from the album. BUT WAIT! It wasn't! Unbelieveable how tight they play together! Masterpiece.
