Yep!

Yes but Ian still goofed up the lines. What a great screamer,

If you aint left handed you cant cover DP drumming with the feel captured hear. 😮 its a spiritual "drummer" thing and here we witness a god in action
Those trinkets during Ritchie's solo were craze balls
If you’re a Purple fan, or not, this is still one of the all-time most rockin’ cuts ever!

I think Ritchie Blackmore should have gotten more recognition that he deserves. When you ask someone who's a great guitarist I always hear either Eddie Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix or Jimmy Page but nobody ever mentions Ritchie Blackmore and I think it's a damn shame, the man is so talented and he belongs in the top 5 guitarists of all time. Just my opinion !
Definitely. He's not a nice guy I hear and not easy to get along with. But 1 of the best ever
@@kevingyurecz8177 You're right he's not a nice guy and very hard to get along with but 1 hell of a guitar player.
I agree. He does not get what he deserves.
Van Halen and Hendrix were utter rubbish. Page is a good axeman, however, inferior to Ritchie Blackmore.
@@thomasgood3472 I agree with you also. Guy made a comment on a channel awhile back that Jon Bonham was 10 times better than Ian Pace which was total BS. Both of them playing at Bilzen Live in 1969. Was awesome.

No one mentions Ian Paice. He's one of the few drummers in rock who can swing.
Absolutely agree: he plays with power, economy and accuracy but it is the sense of swing that marries the rhythm of Glover with the competing leads of Lord and Blackmore to such great effect.
I agree
Well, he's got the right "pace" for certain!😜
Paice and pace are pronounced the same I reckon?
Correct. He had a real ‘funk’ to his rock drumming. Really brilliant.
Ian's the man, i love all members, that intro, John Lord, Ian Paice...amazing.
What a time to be alive, Purple, Sabbath, Zeppelin and Queen......imagine hearing these bands all in the same decade!

Agreed!
Deep Purple was an all-star band. The top couple of musicians at every instrument. Thankful we have these videos to witness the best at the top of their game.
They still are! Saw them in June...it was amazing and a damn honor!
Stupido.
Bok sekašta mi radiis
I don't think any band can top them at talent at all 5 positions.
You said exactly 👍🏼
It doesn't matter how fast he plays, you can hear every single note that Blackmore hits and they're clean and clear.
d d Not only that, but two additional things, one, he didn’t have a bunch of effects pedals to color and clutter up his sound, and he also never really played anything the same way twice. That last one, especially, has always been one of the major ways I gauge the skill of a guitarist. Put your ass out there and risk it and let’s see if you can find your way back home again. Not many bands left willing to do that, if they’re even capable.
@@jonp3890 Amen to all of that!
Billfinger It always amazes me how often Blackmore is overlooked or an after thought as one of the true rock Guitar Gods. True Legend.
It's the truth. This is the Deep Purple band. Period.
@@masiaseddievelaromero2973 And Blackmore has far more influence on the next generation of top guitarists, Vai, satriani, Van Halen, etc than Clapton, Page or Beck did. Not that they are bad guitarists. 😉
Jon Lord: the best keyboardist ever!
Certainly in the top five.
Hard to pick one.
Rick Wakeman was a great one.
@@everetttauscher8377Keith Emerson Uber alles
Bernie Worrell for me, but Jon is right there too.
He's certainly in a class all by himself! The band was having a hard go of it in Pittsburgh one evening, Gillan was struggling with a sore throat, the openers that night had the sound an absolute mess, & if it could go 'wrong' it did... Then after 1 song, Jon, playing very softly with one hand, waved to the band "Come here" & they did. They seemed to 'huddle' like football players, and after maybe 20 seconds or so, (I have no clue what was said??) these guys were having a huge laugh on stage, & they actually started the show over. It 'seemed' like these guys, veteran rockers by this point, were so "into it", happy up there, having fun as they absolutely killed it from then all the way through the encores. Magical night, one of my top concert memories ever, & Mr. Lord said or did something that night to get his buddies back to "who they were & what they did" as well as any band I have ever experienced... in a matter of seconds, pure genius!
Anyone watching this in 2023!? 🏆

2024 anyone ?
I am stuck in the 60s and 70s.
1974, I’m standing at the school bus stop with my best friend. I’m 8 years old. My best friend’s big sister Tracy is there too, sunlight streaming through her hair, lip gloss gleaming...she carries a portable 8 Track player with Deep Purple’s Machine Head jammed into it, Smoke on the Water begins to play and Tracy begins to sway. I am transfixed. I wanted to be that cool. I wanted to be as absolutely, unbelievably cool as thirteen (possibly 14) year old Tracy was right then. Her high school books, (our small town had a high school that included middle school grades) her Pee-Chee, her friggin’ portable 8 Track player and that swaying to the most rockin’
music ever...I became a Deep Purple lover at that very moment and have been since. Bad Ass.
That's an awesome story @Kim Strain. I love Deep Purple too, got to see them live in Florida in the 80's after Perfect Strangers came out. I think we all experienced something like your bus stop story when we were young, often resulting in a lifelong love for a band or type of music or other art form. I remember a family vacation spent at my Uncle Frank's place in the 70's in upstate New York. He was a rocker, played guitar in bands and had tons of rock albums, and one day he played Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. I was completely blown away and set out to collect every album they ever made. To this day I remember that vacation and how it influenced my love of music in general and rock in particular. Cherished memories that stay with you forever. Thank you for sharing yours :)
way to go Tracy.

Simply the best rock band of all times.
This Ian Paice Fellow is an Absolute Beast Behind the drum kit. His movements are extremely and naturally gifted. It is ridiculous actually, as he moves around the Drum Kit with such Ease it's not even funny! As a drummer of more then 40 years, myself as well as others drummers will attest to that same statement. Guys like this simply do not come along very often. He fits in there right between John Bohnam and Keith Moon, but he's a lefty. He needs to be acknowledged more then he has historically and that's all there is to it!
Saw Deep Purple in Cardiff University in 1970, half way through the set the power went off. It was pitch black, you could only hear Ian Paice carrying on. When the power was restored he brought the house down. The song was “Child in Time.”
In the 1990 I saw special drum show featuring Ian Paice. Cozy Powell, and Carl Palmer with Jon Lord on organ. It was tough to watch. In comparison his drumset sounded awful, his timing was off at times, he was the least nuanced and sophisticated player and he even wasn‘t the loudest drummer, although he hit it like always.
But fu%! that. Ian is still my no. 1 idol as a drummer for his great work with Purple, where he fitted in perfectly. 😎🤘
Us lefties have the advantage behind the skins.

Stop focusing on mainstream and dig a little deeper. There’s artists today that are just as good, if not better, than the older guys.
