    Goldie and Scrooge remind me of Batman and cat woman. One is a wealthy upstanding rich man with a knack for adventure and one is a sly thief who can never settle down. Their love for danger and the pure risk of being together draws them together but they know it can’t ever work. So they dance their endless dance knowing that the other is always a step ahead while trying to beat them at their own game.

    Anyone who knows about the comics knows that Scrooge and Goldie are soulmates even though Goldie is a backstabbing treasure hunter. Why is it that these two can be so in love after hundreds of years of bad blood?
    Simple, it all part of the dance. When Scrooge asks Goldie why she is always doing horrible things to him, her answer is that he is "Scrooge Mcduck" and she is "Goldie O'Gilt". Goldie doesn't see her back stabbing acts as deal breakers. She's not stabbing him in the back in her opinion, she's challanging him. She loves to see him in his element, and his element is when the odds are not in his favor. Scrooge, too, loves a good challenge, but not when they are traps set by a person he loves and wants to trust. Without trust there can be no love. But Scrooge and Goldie are not persons designed for traditional romances. While some get their kicks from facing the odds together , Scrooge and Goldie get theirs from fighting each other. Why? Because they are the most formidable challenge the other has ever faced. Nothing could stand a chance against them except the other.
    This fight they have been doing for hundreds of years, and has no chosen winner. Therfore the rivalry is more suited to a tango -like dance spanning centuries. Dancing to their own beat and their own moves.
    The dance will continue so long as he is "Scrooge" and she is "Goldie". And although Scrooge knows he can't trust his soul mate as far as he can throw her, he wouldn't have it any other way.
    "Isn't a she fantastic?"
    "And that's why you loved me?"

      Yeah!
      *"Because your Scrooge McDuck!"*
      *"That can't be a reason for everythi-"*
      *"Scroogie, it's the only reason that matters."*
      Thats the scene that got me, I am a huge fan of the comics, I am really invested in them.
      I was hoping for more refrences to them in this epiosde, but I guess it is what it is.

    Just one minor point: The Gold Rush Scrooge was in was the Klondike Gold Rush in the late 1890’s, not the California Gold Rush of the 1850’s. So he’s likely closer to 120 than 150.

    • @dataweaver
      @dataweaver 6 лет назад +54

      Scrooge wasn't an infant when he made his fortune; he was probably closer to 30, _maybe_ as young as 20. The 1890s were 120-130 years ago (it's closer to 2020 than 2010 as I write this), which puts his age at a minimum of 140, and possibly as high as 160.

      Don Rosa's Scrooge was born in 1867. He's the only one who gives a specific year of birth to Scrooge. Of course that doesn't necessarily mean DuckTales Scrooge is the same though.
      But if he is then he'd be 151 this year. I guess it's appropriate that the reboot started last year when he would have been 150.

    • @DaDunge

      dataweaver scrooge left home at 15 according to "the emprie builder from callisota", and came to Klondyke in his 14th year after leaving home according to "the king of Klondike". He was as such 29.

      Or considering the shots of a young Donald and Delia generations have called him uncle and have never tried to add in the 'great great great ect' part of that title, it also gives an extra reason why Donald didn't tell the boys that Scrooge was family. the old timer is technically distant family both in generational gap and in personality but as the only living relative nearby, Scrooge is the last family Donald can rely on.

    • @pokelolmc6826
      @pokelolmc6826 5 лет назад +2

      Or, perhaps he is their great uncle, but their grandparent (I’m assuming grandmother) is almost as old as he is. We know from the episode where we meet Scrooge’s parents that he accidentally turned his parents immortal after some magical mishap; it’s possible that sibling was with their parents when the mishap happened. Of course, it physically depends on whether they’re truly immortal or ageless; ‘immortal’ is a term that can be used rather broadly, so if they’re just ageless then it’s possible the triplets’ grandparent could have died of other causes and thus absent.

      I'm hoping that they eventually reveal that Scrooge's sisters Hortense and Matilda got in on the adventuring as well, and that Hortense discovered the Fountain of Youth or something, which is how she had Donald and Della in the early 1980s.

    This is a bit weird but my wife and I saw the three as

    Just makes it even funnier if you look at it that way.

    • @DaDunge
      @DaDunge 6 лет назад +8

      jesse kint Well that's sort of my problem with it the river song archetype is not exactly creative. The Goldie o'gilt from the comics was a far more unique character that drew from the time and place she existed in. This Goldie is more cookiecutter romantic intrest semivillain opposite gender clone of the main character. Like river in Dr who, catwoman in batman or Amanda in highlander.

    I waited so long for this episode (Around 10 months) and when I watched it, yes, I enjoyed it. But I wish there was more backstory to it. I have read the Life And Time Of Scrooge McDuck, and I have the Back To The Klondike comic. And I love them to death! In this episode, I was hoping for references, and there were a few of them. The mammoth, for instance, was the only reference that really piqued my interest.
    I really loved this episode, Scrooge is seriously my favorite everything. So I love to get to know more on his new characters past. With this episode, and the episode that came out today. They have been giving us a little bit of his past, I feel like this could be leading up to a big backstory episode. Like in the original "Once Upon A Dime" I loved that episode! That's what I am really wanting for the reboot.
    Anyway! Great review! I have been waiting for you to make this one! Its amazing as always!
    Keep up the good work!

    technically the gold rush (1850) was before scrooge was born (1867) but the klondike gold rush was in the 1890s, which makes more sense. not only that, but supposedly scrooge drank from the fountain of youth, which makes sense, seeing as he still looks pretty young for a duck, not even having grey hairs or anything that we see in other ducks, like Ms. Beakley (who is ~108 but maybe disney will clear that up) and ducks we see later on in the series. We also see later on that in the 60s, during his operations with Bentina, he seems to not have aged a day. It's likely that his body isn't aged past 40-50 years old, especially if him getting stuck in timeless dimensions or drinking from fountains of youth are pretty regular occurrences.

    I have question about comic you use for reference how come Scrooge's wears a green jacket in the comic while in comic series and in the new show he was recognized for wearing a red jacket.

    • @seaniccus
      @seaniccus  6 лет назад +2

      In the old comics his jacket was often red, but sometimes it was other colors too. It just happened to be green in that one, but it was red in another comic from that book.

      Colours of power. in medieval time purple was the hardest to make thus it was a sign of wealth, the Gold the colour of riches later on Green was the color of cash and also a sign of luck further tying into Scrooge being scottish, however theses day Red is the power colour it show confidence and control, sleek and dominating for both genders along with being recognizable and Distracting.

      He wore red through the don Rosa Klondike comics.

    • @JoenSo
      @JoenSo 6 лет назад

      I think it just depends on edition of the comic and personal preference of whoever did the colors for it. His Klondike jacket is brown instead of red in the edition of Life and Times that I have.

    finished watching first season is already impatiently waiting for 2º one
    (where I live shows need to be translated so seasons take a bit of time to air and it also takes time for episodes to be uploaded to the internet so I'm certain I will have to wait for quite some time for season 2, and that is why I'm dying on the inside)

    I think this is one of my top 3 episodes of this show yet. I really loved the backstory, the story itself and the animation. Gonna spoil if there is still someone out there. I missed the explanation of fountain of youth and time vortex. I was thinking that 5 years in ice whould not be enought. But who really cares. Scrooge can be over 100 years old and I still buy it. I liked how they made Glomgold a joke but then suddenly show why he is dangerous. He is a joker, wild card and inpredictable. Really shoking stuff. Liked it a lot. And yes I loved how they had the dance. This show manage to be "normal". Not trying to make everything cool. Be slow, and real. Just what I love in cartoons.

    In the original 'DuckTales', Goldie was referred to as 'Glittering Goldie'. The 'O'Guilt' name was never used. After watching 'Back To The Klondike, and have to say that while the original Goldie can be conniving, and sneaky, the new version was more cut throat than I remember. Yet, still maintains whatever affection she once had for Scrooge. Also, I never noticed how the new show never put much of a spotlight on the adult characters until now, but it's not like they've been pushed to the side, either. Also, I like how being frozen in ice for five years, as well as some adventures through magical means explains how Scrooge, and Goldie existed since the 1800's.

    • @DaDunge
      @DaDunge 6 лет назад +1

      Marc Baker it does not explain how Donald is so young despite his mother only being some ten years younger then scrooge. He could be at most 65 years younger than scrooge. That'd still make him 95 years old.

    It frustrated me a bit that they didn't talk about him actually digging for gold, it made it sound like he made all his money just finding mythical treasures. But otherwise I did like a lot of the changes they made.

      Gracekim1 I don't know they seem to avoid those aspects if his character. In the comics calling his dime lucky was berserk button. He'd tell you luck had nothing to do with it it was just hard work. Now daus he calls the dime lucky himself.

    Scrooge is legit at least 150. He was 10 in 1877 i believe. SO he was born in 1867, and is alive in 2018

    From what I've read, this version of Goldie makes her more mean than the original, or at the very least, it makes her look worse than Scrooge. Goldie may have stolen from Scrooge, but Scrooge, in retaliation, force her to do grueling work for him as payback. Some of their relationship can be viewed as "problematic" by today's standards, not to mention the writers of the show clearly want to make Scrooge a more all-around noble figure compared to his comic book counterpart, and as a result, they made Golide a chronic back-stabber. At the very least, we know she genuinely cares about Scrooge, since she pushed him out of the way when she fell into the molten gold; even if she knew she'd be able to survive it, she also knew that Scrooge wouldn't.
