great voice, you don't need that much reverb. u might think it sounds cool but it's exhausting for the audience. try using ZERO reverb for a few songs... you don't need it as much as you think.

Amazing how complex your set up is for acoustic, what you have to go thru to create a performance in addition to actually playing your instrument & vocals. Thanks for the Rig Rundown. Keep on performing & developing. What I ended up with for gear, probably the last list of items that I would've ever thought I would end up trying to make something happen musically. From the demo/sound check, I wouldn't change anything, the Ovation Celebrity works with what you've assembled & it's pretty incredible stuff to listen to. You put yourself out there, learned in the process & get better & more confident every gig. We are our own worst critics, self doubt creeps in, you seem like the type that takes the hits & keep moving forward. FWIW, you've got a new fan here in FL. It's coming together nicely to this point.

@@ashablaine Didn't realize it at the time of watching this video, but your performances is a pretty solid resume with Winger & others heavyweights of the rock & roll 1980's. Looks like you've added a Carbon Fiber Ovation to your instruments. Beautiful guitars. I was surprised that Rainsong guitars went out of business. Ovation has changed hands so many times, I would have thought Rainsong would've been bought, if not by the new ownership of Ovation.

I own a similar Ovation. Bought mine as I like the neck on it. Yeah, the sound might not be acoustic enough for some, but I rather like it. I can play mine at fairly high volumes with little to no unwanted feedback, that's one of the advantages of the shallow back. Your processed sound for it is fine. For me, I just add a bit of extra low and low mids from a guitar EQ pedal. I leave the guitar's EQ flat. and boost the output from the master volume.

Excellent video. As far as equipment goes you, have it right, keep it simple. The only thing I'd upgrade is maybe try a Voice Live 3 Extreme, it has everything you ever thought you wanted in the way of voice/guitar effects and is simple to use as well. It's like a better vesion of the one you have. BTW, if you progressed from just starting to learn chords to this level since covid I'd say you have the gift. I'm very very impressed.

Let me tell you there are songs I've sung many years. hahahahaha I can not remember the lyrics and I would get so mad. So, I just stopped trying to remember the lyrics. I just use lyrics and think about my performance. So, I know its okay professionally to use lyrics and that is what I do. I am smiling and saying its okay Paula to use lyrics. Having a great performance is the most important thing for me. Thank you for this video.

I think it’s totally ok to rely on live when you have 590 other songs in your head that you need to perform for, especially if you are a musician who is constantly learning new material. For some performances it is necessary to memorize, if you have a shorter set. Not to worry, you’re still a real musician even if you read lyrics lol . I know some musicians line to pick a bone on this topic.

Yes the helicon has a multitude of effects you can apply to the voice. I’m in Colorado as well, would you consider doing some collaboration and duo things together? I play guitar and sing some, I have originals and lots of covers, Acoustic and electric. You probably won’t answer but thought I would try. Take care, thanks…

do you like having the EV behind you and having it act as a monitor as well as your PA ? also, can you show a video of you using the stomp, it was out of the shot for this video ?

I do have a video on the stomp! Hope it helps! And yes I use my system as a monitor. It did take me some time to get used to the sound behind me.

I have a JBL Eon Compact, I place it on an end table just slightly behind me, works like a charm. Your kit is fire though, nice job. I will find your stomp vid too !!@@ashablaine

I’m curious too about your tambourine on foot, is it mic’d up? What brand? And your speaker? Isn’t it a bit too much for a backyard acoustic gig? I love your set up and having a stomp box will be my ideal set up too. I use a bass drum and a hi hat home when i play at home and it looked too crowded if i use that. I love singing and playing acoustic but never had any experience playing for others. A friend is encouraging me to play at his 50th birthday party and I will definitely try this kind of set up. Thanks for this and goodluck to me. I know im old to start something like this, but I think it will give me a lot of good experience with it despite the outcome. Thanks a lot! I just subscribed!

The sound system is not too big honestly. It can fit in little places and you can make the volume as low as you want it! I do not mic the tambourine because usually the sound of the tambo carries in any room. I just bought this simple tambourine from guitar center. It’s a half circle shaped so I can maneuver it with my foot. This stomp box in my opinion is the best option for any kick sound. Much better and cheaper than a cajon with a kick pedal. I hope this helps!

How much does the EV weigh ? I'm a petite gal and over 20 lbs is tough for me to cart around. Thanks in advance Asha. Your sound is awesome BTW.

I’m a petite gal too! I would say the sub weighs 35 lbs… when you go to set up/break down the entire speaker, the pole comes a part in 3 pieces and you can tote in a little back pack that is super light. You can carry the entire system in one trip. Toting this around definitely makes you stronger💪 if you can’t carry for very long or the stage is very far away, I suggest also packing a cart with wheels. Or a small dolly.

@@ashablaine Thanks so much. I do have an OnStage cart (highly recommend) got it from Sweetwater. Currently using a Roland Cube EX for busking / small venues. and thinking of getting a column PA for my solo gigs. We have a larger PA for the band , but the guys move that ! ! 🎸 Thanks again Asha.
