Hi Jason, greetings from Australia. Your live sound is great! I just wanted to thank you for producing these videos on live acoustic gigs/equipment . They are great for aspiring musicians who want to play their first gig! Travis
I see a lot of my fellow musicians forgetting about the power conditioner. It can really make a big difference for a lot of places with dirty buzzy power. Especially while using a MacBook with the power supply plugged in.
I've had a blast doing these live gigs. Never thought I'd be doing as much as I am now, 2-3 a week. I also want to encourage folks to get out there and play live!
Jason, your attention to detail is as amazing as your channel is inspirational. I haven’t gigged since post-high school (more than 4 decades ago!), when I played classic hard rock with my band. Unlikely at this stage of life I’ll find a group of guys to regularly play music with, but you continue to inspire me to-if nothing else-to play solo gigs. Thank you for the time you put into your channel. I’m a huge fan!
@@FenderTeleDeluxe Dude that's the beauty of doing these solo gigs, you don't have to rely on anyone else. Of course, playing in a band is fun and I miss that. But dude, I encourage you to get out there and play some solo shows! I will soon be making a video on how to get started with all of that.
Great video!! Very imformative. I’ve been playing for too long (lol) and always used tube heads and 2/12 cab. I’m thinking a lot about using my POD Go with IEM’s. I’m getting great 5150 tone out of the PG but haven’t tried inner ears. My brother, bassists, used them last night at our show for the first time and loved them. He was able to hear things much better. Have you ever tried any?
I've used in-ears in the past with other bands but haven't used them for solo gigs. Being just me and a guitar, and sometimes my wife singing, I don't even need a monitor in half the venues I play at. I actually just got the Electro-Voice Evolve 50M...that video will post tomorrow!
Do you ever get any trouble at gigs eg drunks. Also what if something goes wrong, or fails. Have you got backups? I would definately come to your live gig, but I am in Britain so it is a bit too far for me to travel.
I'd love to see you at a gig...and heck, I'd love to play there as well! I've yet to have any problems with drunks or folks acting out. But I also mostly play at craft beer breweries and wineries. Those attract a different type of crowd than the typical bar (although I do play at a couple of bars, as well). As far as backups for gear, yes, I have a backup for pretty much everything. And worse case scenario, I can plug my guitar and mic into one of my main speakers as they have two inputs. So I could really go with a minimal setup if something like the soundboard failed (plus I have more than one speaker, and I have extra cables and mic). I always come prepared
My amps and guitars have nice cases but loading in my mic stands, guitar stands and IPad holder looks jenky when I load in. What do you use to transport the loose ends like mic stands, tripods ….
I can’t believe I didn’t cover that in the video! I have a suitcase for my cables and mics and I have a bag for all of my stands. That makes things a lot easier!
Great video and very informative. What iPad holder do you recommend as I didn't see that mentioned in the video or on your gear page? Thanks and keep up the great work!
I have a LyxPro brand. It's been great (using it well over 3 years now) but the screw just stripped so I put some between that and the mic stand now to lock it in place. I gig 2-3x a week so things are bound to wear out
Excellent video and great information! What brand and gauge of strings do you usually use in your electric guitar? Also: what picks do you prefer for the electric guitar? Thanks 🙏🏻
Thank you. I use Elixir Nanowebs on all of my guitars. For electric, super light and acoustic, light. Picks are Dunlop .88 (Maxgrip) and I use those for pretty much everything
Hey I am tired of spending thousands on gear then feel like i get bored with it but next time im wanting to get stuff to just be able to play almost any rock acoustic stuff just from my house maybe even just through headphones but what gear would be best for me to play acoustic stuff on and lead electric tones cause so far I can’t never find the right effects pedal or guitar pickups idk what it is but how you did the lead stuff I have not had anything that can do that so far and I really really just want to be able to do that at home and I’m not sure what I’m missing I buy the guitar and amp and some pedals but still only have stuff good for rhythm guitar at best
Well I was wanting to kinda go without the amp maybe like I guess I meant could I buy a certain multi effects pedal and just a basic guitar and run it through speakers and be able to practice solo riffs and stuff like that I’ve spent 4,000$ on stuff last time and still couldn’t seem to branch out past mostly just playing chords and I’ve been playing on and off since 2005 and I feel like I really want something to get me into solo pieces and good sounding acoustic stuff for rock to country stuff I feel like I’m missing something major
Hey man. Av a TC Helicon question. See if you use the tap temp for a certain song u want to adjust delay time. How do u erase that and get it back to factory setting delay setting. Cheers
That's my one hang-up about that pedal. Urgh!!! I wish they didn't have that feature because I'm accidentally clicked twice or held the button down not realizing it and it screwed me up in the middle of a show. The only way I now is you need to buy the appropriate USB cable, connect it to your computer, and download the latest update (even though it probably already has the latest). This brings is back to factory settings, at least in my experience.
My acoustics have pickups built into the (believe my Martin has Fishman) but you can get external ones...not familiar with those but brands like Fishman and LR Baggs are notable brands
I don't have any complaints with the EV floor monitor. But if I had it to do over again, I would've just bought another EV main speaker to use as a monitor. Takes up a little less space and I actually like using that better (I'll do that with smaller gigs where I only need one main speaker and just use the other as my monitor). That would've also saved me about $300.
@@craigmcgill4612 I have no clue why and it may be just a personal preference thing. And maybe the wedge monitor would work better in a band situation. And I still use it for solo shows where I need both of my mains. But I would have been just as happy getting another main speaker and using that as my monitor. As far as backing tracks, I don't use any. To me, it sounds too much like karaoke.
@@jasonstallworth well depends, if your just singing to backing tracks and entertaining you’re a glorified karaoke singer, but if your still playing guitar, guitar solos etc and singing then it’s pretty much just do the what your already doing but with drums and bass coming through the speakers
No amps...the idea is to keep this as simple as possible. I'm actually looking to revamp my setup and go to one of those portable systems like the Bose or JBL PRX ONE (my friend just got one and I played through it Sunday...sounds great!). Wen you're playing solo gigs 2-3x a week, the setup and tear down can wear on you so you want to scale down as much as possible.
I do use a looper to loop a rhythm so that I can solo over it. I don't use any sound effects or backing tracks though. Nothing wrong with that, but it's not my thing Here's a more recent setup I use: ruclips.net/video/8ljF5v5Pcp8/видео.html
Less than 2k. It probably seems like more as I’m going through everything but it’s not that much. Of course, you can get by with much less Here’s my latest setup, which is a little more simplified: ruclips.net/video/8ljF5v5Pcp8/видео.htmlsi=xqPB3x0-2RVxNze5
@@jasonstallworth holy smokes! Wow! That's totally awesome, I guess I'm not aware since I'm only an amp and guitar guy period. Anyways thanks for the lessons, I've learned a lot. 👍💯
@@rubenaguilar5585 Yeah, you can get started for a lot less. Like, you could get by playing smaller venues with just one speaker - I started that way a few years ago. You naturally accumulate more gear along the way!
