Many moons ago I worked at silk screen studio with a bunch of other hippies, including the shop foreman. Every day at lunch time this song would come over the sound system to let us all know it was was time for a break. Then we would all dance our way to the door singing "Ready for lunch, oh baby, I'm ready for lunch." We would all pop into the nearby tavern for some pub grub and pints. It was a very casual place to work. This song always brings a smile to my face....oh, and Boz Burrell's fretless bass is monstrous.

This album was on a loooot of car stereos when it came out…as heard from the back seat. This has a cool little shuffle under it, but the chorus is unmistakably in line with the lyric, that understated power chord. Scuse me but it’s a “walk down and F ‘em all” kind of groove, smooth and easy and taking its time.

This is, actually, a cover of "Ready For Love" by: Mott The Hoople
[it features on their, iconic, All The Young Dudes album], which Mick Ralphs (guitarist), originally, wrote it for and who brought it with him, when he left to join the newly formed "superband": Bad Company, with the ex-members of Free (and King Crimson).
Just "f.y.i.": Bad Company (besides being the primary basis for Paul Rodgers' fame and recognition) were, in fact, the first band signed to Led Zeppelin's iconic: Swan Song record label (I mean, i guess, BESIDES ZEPPELIN, itself!).
Their debut album [Bad Company (self-titled)] was the first album released on Swan Song. [With the famous/infamous "doomed Icarus" logo icon.... which designated the label -and, in many ways/to multitudes of people, also designated Led Zeppelin, as well....-]
There are quite a few legendary Bad Company tracks for you to hear.
"Run With The Pack", "Burnin' Sky", "Gone, Gone, Gone", "Silver, Blue & Gold"
...but, probably, MOST important and most iconic: the band-named/titled song OFF of the band's self-titled debut LP (THIS, very, one!):
    "Bad Company"
NO song more epitomizes the sound and attitude of Bad Company than "Bad Company" (probably: intentionally!).
Dusty, Dirty, Sweaty, pseudo-Western, Bluesy, threatening, powerful, swarthy, melancholy, resigned, definitive, powerful, l....

I was already familiar with the Mott the Hoople version (with it's shared vocals with Ralphs & Hunter for variety) when I bought the Bad Company album (because of the Ralphs connection). I liked this track as it was a different interpretation rather than an attempted clone of the original. Interesting that this one continues onto After Lights without crediting it as such.

so I knew THIS (the Bad Co. version) version, first.
Agreed! "making it your own"/taking things in a different direction is the ONLY, real, intelligent, useful way to go about those things.
Trying to, just, "reiterate" something that has already been done (and done EXTREMELY WELL, if not "perfectly" (using that as a "descriptor" ...but NOT, actually, intending to mean that: perfection is POSSIBLE 🤪🤘🤘).) is ...**smh** - NOT the best ...and, usually: FAILS!

One of my favorite Bad Company songs. Bad Company was a super group made up of 3 other successful bands. The great vocals of Paul Rodgers, who also plays the piano & guitar & drummer Simon Kirke was from the band Free. Mick Ralphs who plays lead guitar & piano was from Mott The Hoople & bassist Boz Burrell was from King Crimson. All those bands are awesome to & you guys should check them to.
There's a lot to hit from Bad Company. Their first 3 albums are fantastic, not a bad cut on any of them. But here's a few of my favorites that you haven't hit yet.

    Bad Company
    Movin' on
    Run with the Pack
    Simple Man
    Burnin' Sky
    Seagull
    Can't get enough
    Gone, gone, gone
    Silver, Blue & Gold
There's so much more that you could get into, but that's a few. Most of those songs are still played on the radio today & yet, never even nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Paul Roger's is one of the greatest singers to ever grace this planet, regardless of the genre. Also, check Paul out as the lead singer in the band he formed with Jimmy Page (from Led Zeppelin) called "The Firm".
    Peace

Bad Company is one of those seminal 70's rock bands. Like Foreigner, Three Dog Night, Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull and Foghat to name a few.

He has one of those voices like Elton John that if you aren't paying attention you don't notice how exceptional their tone and control is. How soft to be or how to put just a little grit in there. His powerful notes always are graceful if that makes sense.

“Burning Sky” , “Rock and Roll Fantasy”, “Silver Blue and Gold” are ones to check out. “No Smoke without a Fire”, “If you Needed Somebody” are a couple later songs that had lots of airplay with Brian Howe singing for them.

Love everything Paul Rodgers ever did/does, but please give an ear to "Fire and Water" and "Wishing Well" when he was the band "Free." When he toured with Queen after Freddie passed, these songs were played at some of the concerts. I always loved those songs from my very young days, before Bad Company..

Been listening to -- and enjoying -- Bad Co for decades, but this is the song of theirs that I keep coming back to. I think it's the overall vibe of the music and the pathos of the lyrics... the older I get, the more it resonates with me.

Paul Rodgers is amazing. He can still hit every note he could 50 years ago. The man is probably, IMHO, the best singer in rock. I have been singing this song now for over 20 years in the band I am in and I love doing it. The feel of this song is amazing. Great song, great choice. You can't choose a bad song at all from their catalogue.

One of the best. They could make a four minute or less rock song sound almost epic. Great for radio airplay in the '70s. And Paul Rodgers voice has such a subtle but powerful sound to it. Live, he lets it rip. The whole band does.

Listen to Mr Big from The Free Story - listen to a band so gelled together from such soulful vocals to sublime guitar to immaculate bass lines and all knitted together by perfect drums. It doesn’t get any better than that track……and they were all only ‘kids’ when it was recorded.

Paul Rodgers is one of the top five rock vocalists ever. He is absolutely amazing. If you want another one of their songs to listen to, check out "Bad Company" ... you'll love it. Paul actually fronted Queen for a minute after Freddie died.
