  • GE's new washer is innovative, stylish, and a bit expensive. So is it worth it?
    The best feature on this washer is it's new Microban-coated door gasket. This is meant to combat the buildup of mold and mildew along with a next to the door hinge so you don't have to keep the door open after you wash your clothes.
    It also connects to home assistants such as Alexa, Google Home and IFTTT.
    Both the washer and dryer have more capacity than many competitors, but they are larger on the outside and may not fit into conventional spaces.
    At the end of this video you'll learn about the reliability issues and when is the best time to buy.

    Loved the video. I need to know all of the things you talked about before buying. I brought a Whirlpool duet washer in Dec 2012 and the washer just stopped working one week ago today. I rarely wash a lot of clothes but I was very disappointed that It stopped workin so soon. The cost for repair was so high I am buying a new set today It was over six hundred to get it fixed. So I decided on GE. Thank you so much for all the information.

    We got the GE washer in this video about two months ago. We ordered the matching dryer with it, but because of, I guess, manufacturing/shipping delays, we only just got the dryer a few days ago. We ordered the blue color and it looks really good, as opposed to the usual white, grey, or black that other companies offer. We also got the pedestal bases for both units. They fit well in our laundry room, and we're very impressed with these units. They've got a large number of cycles, steam options on both washer and dryer, the anti-mold/venting features on the washer and the wifi connectivity are added plusses. The washer link part of the wifi is pretty amazing. The dryer reads the settings of the washer over wifi and presets the appropriate dryer settings. Overall, we're very impressed with both the washer and the dryer. They replaced ten year old Whirlpool units. The old dryer was still working, but the washer main bearing failed, so we decided to replace both the washer and the dryer. We did a lot of research before choosing the GE models. We also looked at LG and Samsung, but we thought these would be better for us. So far so good. Thanks for the great review!

    Very interesting, I’m trying to talk my wife into a front load laundry pair, she’s pretty hung up on the top load models. Bit I do agree about GE quality, our existing washer and dryer is the GE profile model we bought over 10 years ago and have never had a service call on the washer or dryer. I used to think Maytag was the way to go but I’m a GE fan now.

    We just got the sapphire blue GE 5.0 recently and I absolutely hate it! My 1980s Kenmore top load stopped working and we decided to upgrade, I wish I would have just fixed it as it did a much better job cleaning. So far I have done 4 loads of laundry and none of them came out clean and smelling good. Socks and undergarments still dirty, towels smelled musty, twin size blanket with apple juice stain didn’t wash out. My dish rags needed to be cleaned 4 times before they came out clean. This machine uses NO water, the clothes just get saturated and not all of them do get wet. This thing is going back, not worth the money.

    Here's the solution for mold - leave the door open. I've had several front loaders and never had a problem with mold as long as the door is left open and the cleaning cycle is run on schedule. Does this GE spin smoothly? Is it quiet - even when the pump is running? I had a Maytag that sounded like an angry bee when the pump ran. Not so good installed next to a bedroom.

From that point on, I kept it plugged into a power strip with a surge protector and he we are over 18 years later with no issues... I can't say for sure that's why...or if it's just pure luck. • @YaleAppliance1
      @YaleAppliance1  3 года назад +1

      Miele is the best laundry out there if you care about overall fabric care. No one does it better. but the commercial units do come with a heavy price tag. So if you are doing laundry with any volume and can fit a full size machine GE would be your best alternative to the commercial Miele's.

    • @roseebv22

      @@YaleAppliance1 What about 2 Miele W1 and T1s, cheaper and I like the fact that I can run different loads/colors/delicates simultaneously. I am leaning towards 2 sets of non commercial Mieles. Is that an ok choice? What am I missing by not going with the commercial option?

    • @YaleAppliance1
      @YaleAppliance1  3 года назад +1

      The Miele W1 and T1's are probably the best residential laundry units on the market if overall fabric care is most important to you. The drawback is size. These are compact units so capacity could be an issue.

After some trial and error, I discovered that the dryer was leaking onto the floor when I was using the "reduce static" setting that sprays mist on clothes toward the end of the cycle. Repair guy came and ordered replacement part. It's on delay and should arrive in December. The leak on a new unit was disappointing. But, overall these seems to be performing well (not leaving that moldy smell on my clothes if I left them in the washer a second too long). When the spin cycle begins, if the machine senses the load is unbalanced it will continue to tumble and drain excess water until it is balanced before spinning at max speed. That's a really good point. In some communities the water may be a bit more pricey and this will save several gallons every time you use it, plus it does have built-in features like the Microban linings to prevent it from aging too quickly. But yes, all the newer appliances have much more features and technology because that's what many buyers are asking for, plus compliance with stricter energy regulations.
      It's a give-and-take and if it ain't broke don't fix it. That being said, you'll probably be able to find a commercial grade top-loader that suits your needs at the right price.
      We definitely recommend getting to know your local appliance servicer because unfortunately things will break eventually and brands don't always stand behind their products after the warranty periods.

      @@ScorpioBoi76 These appliances have a 10-year warranty, so I would think they would be around for at least 10 years, perhaps even longer. If you washing 2-3 loads a day then yeah, it might not last long, but most people only going to use these a few times a week, if that. I say all this to say you 300/year analysis is fundamentally flawed, no offense I am just guessing you didn't know that there is a 10 year warranty period.

      The problem I'm having right now is my Maytag came with a 10 year warranty, the warranty is only on the motor which they know for a fact won't go out in 10 years which is the reason they offer it. My repair man said it'll cost around $500 to fix my machine which is what I paid for it to begin with. My husband and I are now thinking about purchasing this GE model.......any suggestions!!?? Is it a good machine or no?

      Microban is a coating....its mold resistant. You have to turn the fan on to dry the water.

    The answer is No! They suck. 4 months after purchase needs a new motor and control panel. Motor burn out is a big problem for these.
    2 month wait for parts. Oh and customer service absolutely horrendous. Angry people that hate their life and you as a customer.
