Thanks for the great step by step video. Previous owner of our house had the vent go downward to the basement and then to the outside with a booster fan installed so there is no lint buildup issue.

Excellen Video!!!!! He shows every step unlike most people!!!! I am very tall....and I laughed so hard at how high the controls are. Not this mans fault, but maybe manufacturers will learn to put controls on the bottom of the dryer. I actually think the wahser should go on top and then you just kind of drop wet, heavy laundry down to dryer.

Thanks! I’ve thought about how nice it would be to slide the wet clothing down into the dryer, but the washer spinning with clothing and water would be so dangerous on top of the dryer! Yikes!

There is a connection to make the washer control the dryer panel. It connects in the back.

Thank you for a great video! Quick question - does your dryer hang a smidge over the washer? We have what appears to be the same washer/dryer combo from Home Depot end of June. Bought the correct stacking kit etc. 5 months later, we are still redoing our laundry room - and we have realized that the 3rd party installation folks that Home Depot sent out - used the 34" brackets - they also left the washer packing braces on - it's been a mess and probably explains the uncontrollable shaking the washer would do when in use. My husband and I just restacked our machines w/the correct 32" brackets and it hangs over the washer a smidge. Probably something I just have to get used after it being done incorrectly for the last 5 months - but I just wanted to double check. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the note. Yes, it looks like there’s an overhang, but from the side profile, the front doors seem to be even. On ours, if you look where the side panel touches the front panel, the vertical lines on the 2 machines line up nicely. (I hope that make sense.) Other people have mentioned the packing brackets making a lot of noise, so hope fully you removed them.

You saved space for a ladder you will need to reach the dryer controls.

Lol, I know exactly what you mean! I step on an upside down old soap mold that is big enough to help me reach inside the dryer and short enough to allow the lower washing machine door to open. You bring up an excellent point though - that’s one of the “cons” to stacking the 2 units.

I was wondering how what’s the height .I only have like 79.5 inch in my basement ?

    • @fixthishouse3303

I just measured ours and it looks like 79”. Measure the height of each unit you own. The stacking kit looks like it adds 1”. I don’t know if it’ll work.

Hi, would you happen to know the washer/dryer model numbers? Looking at a GE combo and how this whole stacking setup works in regards to clearances. We have a closet space that's not much more than 32" deep, and a vent hookup opening on the back wall. I'm afraid these wont fit..is there any kind of clearance needed to run the dryer vent hose in particular? Surely if bends are needed, you'd have to account for maybe 6" of space right?

We have the 650 model. If you look at the online specifications (see link), you should be able to figure out how much space is needed. www.lowes.com/collections/GE-Profile-Ultra-Fresh-Vent-System-5-3-cu-ft-Stackable-Front-Load-Washer-and-Electric-Steam-Dryer-Set-in-Carbon-Graphite/GR_5825

Thank you so much for making this video. I have the same unit and have been considering stacking them to gain more space in my laundry area. I am wondering how its been for you guys having the dryer controls so high up? I am only 5'3" and it seems I would need to have a step stool to operate it and add/remove clothes. How has this been for you guys? Thanks!!

Hi Jennifer, I’m only 5’3.5” and here’s how I manage: turn the knob to 3 or 9 o’clock (where you can see the light selector) and then click it back up toward the Normal or Quick dry settings. Those the the ones you can’t see from below. Hope that helps!

I have been thinking about stacking the washer and dryer (same model), so I could install a dog wash tub in the laundry room. But, I don't think I will be able to reach the controls or see into the washer without a ladder. 😂

I think I bought it at Lowe’s. The kit you need will depend on the depth of the machine. I think Amazon carries them, but you should be able to find them in a big box store near you. Search online first to see what’s in stock. I will try to add a link or some more hints in a minute or so.

@@tammys4760 lint will built up in venting and it is against code as well - the only time you can vent downward is when installed in trailer home - you never want lint built up which will cause a major fire hazard
