I own both and just finished playing MK11, and still every time I play I’m actually amazed of the insane character detail, animation and gear/skin options. They went all out for MK11. I fired up MK1 after 11 and enjoyed playing one tower. MK1 is more vibrant, but the texturing in skin/clothing doesn’t have the same detail as MK11. Both are great, MK11 is more cinematic, in terms of lighting and animation. MK1 is vibrant and comic book styled. MK11 is still my favorite. The graphics are insane.
Gotta be honest, I like the look of 11 way more. I understand that with 1, they wanted to replicate that 80-90s games feels where everything looks vibrant and kinda like toys. But I find the franchise fits very well with the gritty tone that 11 has. I still think 11 is the best looking fighting game to date.
id say the characters in mk11 look a lot more like toys because of the lighting. When the light shines on them their skin reflects all of it like plastic, its very highly detailed too, you can see pores when the light shines on them and thats just not how looking at a real person works. MK1 nails the realism in the lighting, the high detail is there but it isnt comically overblown by the lighting

I think they realized all that stuff took so much time. Everyone they add a new character they have to do everything. Balancing, intros, outros, fatalities. I think that's why MK1 is more straight forward. All those features had to take up time and money.
I like MK1's return to more vibrant color, but tbh MK11 feels a lot more interesting visually still. MK1 kinda made the ninjas feel more interchangeable again, which felt like a weird move.

Well, the guest characters have been breaking the game's world building, atmosphere, congruency and immersion for years (even if they are not part of the main story or you can "not buy them", MK used to tell its story and set a tone mostly with its roster, stages and movesets back in the Arcade days). And it seems that they will keep taking it further and further.

@@FrankLeeYoung So what you are saying is... generational graphics improvement is a thing? so worth the 70$ with the 30fps in menus and everything else thats not a fight
My only issues with MK1 come down to it feeling like a graphical downgrade. The devs clearly downgraded the gore in the fatalities and brutalities. You can notice many fatalities and brutalities split the opponents in similar ways, and all look pretty much the same. I think it comes down to creating extra assets and more complex rigging for animations takes a lot of time. I like MK1s gameplay better, but with there was more content (towers mostly). I also don’t like having to play invasions for unlocks, I prefer the Krypt.
I really think that character models and details looked better in mk 11. Also, I liked the crypt, the idea of exploring and env and redeeming points and choosing which box to unlock, felt rewarding.
I personally hated some of the character designs in MK 11. I have nothing bad to say about the MK 1 designs. If the game didn't have any type of costumisation option I would be fine with all the default costumes.
I hated the crypt. I don’t want to wander around looking for that one singular chest I missed. I’d be playing an RPG if I wanted that experience. A simple animation (preferably skippable) will make for a much nicer experience. Also, the boxes in the crypt were mostly randomized, so “choosing which box to unlock” wasn’t really a thing. It gave the illusion of choice where there was none

I know they are using a new engine, but I have the impression that they are still learning and we'll see the definitive versions only in the next game.
Yep, faces look so much more generic and bland. Instead of Liu Kang and SZero/Scorpion looking distinctly Asian, they are now square jawed, kinda like Caucasian but not
Man the faces in MK 1 are a straight up offense. They're just so generic and forgettable, taken from some generic 3D model library. MK 11 faces are so individualized and fitting and expressive and memorable. MK 1 in comparison (re. just the faces) could be at least 1 generation behind if not 2 (i.e. a PS 3 game).
Just got done playing the MK1 Kampaign and couldn't stop thinking to myself how amazing the game looked. Now seeing the side by side, it really just goes to show how amazing MK11 looked on last gen hardware and how amazing it still looks today
I prefer the darker-horror style of Mk11. All this nasty gore and creepy ambiances that make you wanna play to a MK game more than another fighting game.
i find the lighting better in MK1 and the overall colour and shading of everyone's skin - apart from that similar looking. I also prefer the clothing of MK1 but fatalities of MK11
Scorpion and Sub-Zero doesn't even look scary anymore. They just look like regular guys. Scorpion looked like a regular guy in a hood on the first Mortal Kombat. But in his finisher it revealed that he was really a skeleton who could breathe fire.
MK11 and MK1 are both great games from a story and graphics perspective, but MK1 is just so much more fun gameplay wise. That's of course just personal opinion, but MK11 never felt right to me, so I welcome all the changes NRS made.
That may be a personal opinion, but it’s one shared between allot of different persons lol. MK11 is so bland from a gameplay perspective, it’s boring to play and to watch. MK1 has its issues but it’s night and day how much more fun it is.
MKX was fast paced and not so beginner friendly compared to MK9. So in order to appeal to the masses, they dialled down mk11. If mk11 had the 3 normal bars instead of defensive and offensive meters, it would have been alot better as well.
@@holdmyweight3597 Its called mortal kombat 1 because the new timeline/new era has started, it makes complete sense. Care to explain why its a bad name?
Mk11 looks better slightly. Not only in terms of graphic in general but also designs and somewhat lighting (not all the time). They recently switched to UE4, so maybe they still need time to get used to it. Also, console limitation affects PC as well.
I think you just think it looks better because of the more detailed character designs, but honestly I can immediately see how much better of a visual improvement there by looking at more simplified costumes and characters, cuz big surprise, our regular clothes don't have much details or shiny armors, I think the Kameos also emphasize that by having the characters look exactly how the actors in costumes look like, I'm honestly surprised how real Cyrax and Sektor look
I just realized that Goro was completely forgotton in this new era. He was the 9 time champ before losing to Liu Kang in the OG timeline. But now hes just a bodyguard.
I love your comparison, very well put together and entertaining, but km one has a amazing story and presentation, It felt like a mortal kombat movie I never got at the movies and would pay to watch.
Mk 11 was so perfect it would of been hard to improve so I think they had now choice but to visually take brighter direction. Only to return to the darkness we all know and love later on.
Going back to playing MK11 after MK1 a bit... I just like MK11 better and think it's overall a better game. Way more features, options, variety. MK1 I would say the only real improvements are the animations and fluidity of the fighting system, and I suppose some of the tech rendering the stages, but as a whole I vastly prefer MK11.
As a person who’s been playing mk11 since launch and mk1 now I can confirm that mk1 is the superior game imo. Mk11 looks decent but the gameplay is drastically slow compared to the previous games. It also had a huge creativity cap when it came to combo potential because of that which split the community on whether Mk11 was even worth playing over MkXL. I could honestly give you a long laundry list of my issues with 11 from the overpowered boss towers vanilla mk, or overpriced dlc and such but I’ll just say I think mk1 is better. It’s imo the perfect balance between mk11 and mkXL. I think a lot of people misunderstand the purpose the kameo concept that he mentioned in the video too because it is essential to know about if you wanna get somewhat decent and I completely disagree that it’s something to gloss over. Mk1 has fresh redesigns of the characters that I feel have been needed for a min because it’s been the same for awhile and I highly suggest you guys check it out more in depth. Also really beginner friendly.
I’m glad to hear that, because MK11 felt very scummy, and I’m glad they dropped a lot of the customization. I know people won’t like that, but it was a lot on the hardware. I know with DLC we’ll get a lot later, but as is stands this was the better choice to make. There will still be nitpicks over the decision, but ultimately I commend them over this. I feel sorry for the people in Russia though, and the various Switch users who decided to buy this on their consoles.
@@emanthescripter1076 I mean combo variety is a very big deal tho because creativity is everything when it comes to fighting games. It looked good but there’s no way I personally can see mk1 is clunkier when the customization was completely horrendous in mk11 imo with blocked and banned moves all the time and them not deciding to allow custom slots until towards the end of the game and overpriced dlc. But you like what you like homie I ain’t trippin 🤷🏿♂️
@whereskensama3408 whether or not strings were viable doesn't matter. Im saying strings in mk1 feel clunky and sluggish. In mk11 they feel more responsive.
This is very annoying that they went and made a whole new game instead of just adding characters to 11. Especially since the graphics are about the same. Honestly...
The narrator said he personally doesn’t find Kameos that impactful. I strongly disagree. I like Kameos because they help me counter my friends’ gimmicks or playstyles that I struggle to overcome.
The benefits of the cameos is situational, I think. If used right, they can be used to make up for whatever deficiencies that the character actually fighting has. For instance, if you're using Mileena, you have to deal with a lack of a long range projectile as your sais don't go full screen without burning a bit of meter, right? What's the solution? Get a cameo that does have a quick long range solution, like Kano, for example.
Getting back in MK since not playing since the DA days haha...not sure which one of the last 3 I should start at though? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Should I just jump right into MK1 or try MK10 or MK11 first? Been yeeeeears since I've played so I will be extremely rusty to say the least.
honestly I would follow the order, personally out of the 3 mkx is my favorite. but it is a bit more advanced out of the 3, if you’d like to start off with something more simple I would say mk11 or mk1 but personally I’d observe and see what catches your eye the most! but personally so far I’ve had the most fun with mkx and mk11
I'd say start in the order you mentioned. MK1>MKX>MK11. I'd recommend to save MK11 for the last since it's my personal favorite. I had a lot of fun in the kript and I love the fatalities
What I do know is that Mortal Kombat has a dark and wild atmosphere. I can't stand the idea of a Street Fighter atmosphere in Mk.😒 The cheerful atmosphere in Mk1 does not adequately express the brutality of this series. So, for me, the Mk 11 is the best, because it is strong, dark, brutal, and cruel, as it should always be.
Mortal kombat 11 reminds me of mortal kombat, whereas MK1 reminds me of a mmorpg, stages look bright, vibrant and colorfoul as if you could create your character and jump start your adventure
excellent comparison video! I'm a new mk enthusiast only having really played th go MK2 and deception titles. (I did get pretty deep into Theken though hehe) somehow this new mk1 has resparked my interest in the series, also getting back into playing it. To be honest, the design of faces in Mortal Kombat 1 is disastrous. The design of faces and input of characters in Mortal Kombat 11 is beautiful, realistic and amazing. on god, all the characters in mk1 look the same I cant believe nobodys talking about this.
@@johnmorrison312 THANK YOU!!!
Just got done playing the MK1 Kampaign and couldn't stop thinking to myself how amazing the game looked. Now seeing the side by side, it really just goes to show how amazing MK11 looked on last gen hardware and how amazing it still looks today
Honestly, I feel MK11 has a better art style
Great video man. But I gotta be honest. I'm so ready for your Spider-Man Remastered vs. Spider-Man 2 video!!
I'm more into the realistic character models in MK11
MK11 looks 1000 times better
1000 really I’ll say alil better but 1000 sheeesh
Definitely I agree with you.
Mk11>>>>>>Mk1
I prefer the darker-horror style of Mk11. All this nasty gore and creepy ambiances that make you wanna play to a MK game more than another fighting game.
That would be MKXL
I love the towers of time of MK11 it makes you train with a different character every time
watching this video and seeing that MK11 is so close to MK1 shows how ahead MK11 really was at its time.
Mk11 wins, flawless victory.. To be honest and the best mk9.
i find the lighting better in MK1 and the overall colour and shading of everyone's skin - apart from that similar looking. I also prefer the clothing of MK1 but fatalities of MK11
@@purwantiallan5089 It's due to the fact that they like mk 11 more back then, so u can see the effect of wishlist on mk 1
Scorpion and Sub-Zero doesn't even look scary anymore. They just look like regular guys. Scorpion looked like a regular guy in a hood on the first Mortal Kombat. But in his finisher it revealed that he was really a skeleton who could breathe fire.
They turned Scorpion, Subzero, and Smoke into pretty boy's for this game.
@@Nestle245 um cuz they’re young 🤦🏾♂️
i think mk11 is peak mk design and style, but i do like the change in tone for 1, it feels diferent.
MK 11 is still the best
MK11 and MK1 are both great games from a story and graphics perspective, but MK1 is just so much more fun gameplay wise.
That's of course just personal opinion, but MK11 never felt right to me, so I welcome all the changes NRS made.
That may be a personal opinion, but it’s one shared between allot of different persons lol. MK11 is so bland from a gameplay perspective, it’s boring to play and to watch. MK1 has its issues but it’s night and day how much more fun it is.
Agreed 🍻 they just need to sort out online matchmaking. Struggling to find matches
MKX was fast paced and not so beginner friendly compared to MK9. So in order to appeal to the masses, they dialled down mk11. If mk11 had the 3 normal bars instead of defensive and offensive meters, it would have been alot better as well.
Who ever titled it as Mortal Kombat 1 needs to be fired! Who’s with me??!
@@holdmyweight3597 Its called mortal kombat 1 because the new timeline/new era has started, it makes complete sense.
Care to explain why its a bad name?
I think every agrees that mk11 has better designs and graphics but overall mk1 is more fun and has a better gameplay
same
No lol 😂
ive been waiting for this, thank you nick
pls do a Tekken 7 vs Tekken 8 comparison
First Let tekken 8 to release 😅
@@sahilkhera2967 There is a lot of footage of Tekken 8 cutscenes, intros and gameplay just enough to make a comparison
@@TypicalKK I agree but the final product can be different at some points ☺️
@@TypicalKKremember cyberpunk? it may and probably will change before release, for the better or worse.
The game’s not out yet.
Mk11 looks better slightly. Not only in terms of graphic in general but also designs and somewhat lighting (not all the time). They recently switched to UE4, so maybe they still need time to get used to it. Also, console limitation affects PC as well.
Nah mk1 looks better
@@amirali1409 cartoon explosions look better than MK11??
I think you just think it looks better because of the more detailed character designs, but honestly I can immediately see how much better of a visual improvement there by looking at more simplified costumes and characters, cuz big surprise, our regular clothes don't have much details or shiny armors, I think the Kameos also emphasize that by having the characters look exactly how the actors in costumes look like, I'm honestly surprised how real Cyrax and Sektor look
@@mynameismattfirered9276 stop it, we can see who has the game and who doesn’t .
@@amirali1409you probably dont have it then
I just realized that Goro was completely forgotton in this new era. He was the 9 time champ before losing to Liu Kang in the OG timeline. But now hes just a bodyguard.
I like the variations/having several outfits for a character from mk11
MK11 looks so good!
DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS?
Idk but MK11 is just much more *MK* to me. Gritty atmosphere is top notch.
The best comparison video I've seen!!!
Mk1 is better
@@WiseCivicno it’s not
@@itzderrio obvio que no bro👍
Very good video. I was actually hoping someone would compare all the details in both games
MK11 was much much better
4 likes and 0 replys in 6 months? Let me change that
For artistically wise, yes but gameplay and graphics go to mk1
Hate the kameo thing in mk1
In every other aspect besides core gameplay
Even in the aesthetics stand point I think MK1 did it better@@tonyguardado878
In mk11 the characters have personality and their designs and introduction are amazing, there is no comparison.
MK11 characters look more detailed and realistic, but I like the stages of MK1 more
Which option is better in gameplay or graphics or details?
I want to buy mortal Kombat but i dont know which is better
Yeah, feels like Fortnite...👌
I’ve got both and I think mk11 was so so much better in every aspect
Love your videos man, keep up the good work!
These type of your videos are the best!
The strings in mk1 feel clunky compared to 11. 11 is the more polished game overall. Mk1 nailed combo variety, that's about it
@@emanthescripter1076 I mean combo variety is a very big deal tho because creativity is everything when it comes to fighting games.
@@emanthescripter1076 They’re not responsive at all in MK11,and the moveset was very limited.
Great comparison! Thank you 😁
I can't believe they released this on Nintendo but not PS4
I was waiting for your review
This is very annoying that they went and made a whole new game instead of just adding characters to 11. Especially since the graphics are about the same. Honestly...
Both look amazing
Great video overall, but I disagree with skin reflections being better on mk1, they’re actually way better on mk11.
Newer doesn’t always mean better, sometimes newer is making it purposely cheaper to gain funds from older investments.
The characters look more mean & ruthless on the old game...😬 MK11 wins for me.. MK1 it's not even on the (PS4)🤔
The narrator said he personally doesn’t find Kameos that impactful. I strongly disagree. I like Kameos because they help me counter my friends’ gimmicks or playstyles that I struggle to overcome.
Sound effects for mk 11 are dope
Shang Tsung looks so damn cocky. That smirk makes u want to slap him.
Mk 11❤
Love the differences and love the focus on textures and massive fan love ur content
MK1 is more cartoon than MK11, less detail when u zoom in, good in normal distance, especially in skin/faces
Nothing beats the original midway time line for this
i think Scorpion and Sub-zero look ridiculous in mk1. Reptile looks awesome.
Damn in mk1 every body look like the just hit puberty 😂😂😂😂😂
The benefits of the cameos is situational, I think. If used right, they can be used to make up for whatever deficiencies that the character actually fighting has. For instance, if you're using Mileena, you have to deal with a lack of a long range projectile as your sais don't go full screen without burning a bit of meter, right? What's the solution? Get a cameo that does have a quick long range solution, like Kano, for example.
I'm just impressed how much they did with ue3.
I loved the MK11 customization. It's way better, lets you personalize much more, and it gives you something to grind towards.
Grinding isn’t fun they got slot of hate for how grindy mk11 was so they removed that.
I can't stand the idea of a Street Fighter atmosphere in Mk.😒
The cheerful atmosphere in Mk1 does not adequately express the brutality of this series.
So, for me, the Mk 11 is the best,
because it is strong, dark, brutal, and cruel, as it should always be.
MK 11 Character kinda looks way more detailed and flashy, while mk 1 is simplified with less details.
I love the brighter fuller colours and design overall. the cameo and areal combos really convinced me as well. I'm def gonna give it a go.
To be honest, the design of faces in Mortal Kombat 1 is disastrous. The design of faces and input of characters in Mortal Kombat 11 is beautiful, realistic and amazing. And unlike Mortal Kombat 1, where several characters are very similar, in Mortal Kombat 11, none of the characters are similar to each other, and time has really been spent to design the characters one by one....
The blood physics and simulation are in another level with mk1
Is it just me or mk11 graphics looks way better than mk1?
It does... Facts.
MK11 took a movie or theatre feel while the MK1 reverts back to arcade style of play and look with modern twist to it.
