I'm really enjoying Mirage! Yeah it would be nice to get even closer to the older games, but I really like what they did with this game, and hopefully it shows the devs that the fans wants more of this style.
what i like about mirage is that the combat is not mostly button spam like valhalla. it´s more about dodge/parry/counter system, and instead you can finish off enemies fast like in real life but they can also finish you off fast it´s a bit more like ghost of tsushima in that sense of course GOT is the goat in swordcombat but i feel mirage did a good job in that sense. mirage combat is many times too repetitive with it´s finish animations there is simply too few of them
@@ChrisE-iy7oki don't know why some assassin creed unity fans just hate mirage even though they haven't even playiled it.they just want the tall buildings Parkour. But they don't see that Ubisoft is actually coming back to their path again.
@@sayyamhaider8024 personally i dont get the hate on most ac games. if every 10 plus ac games where all the same like ac 2 and unity it would all get boring. ac valhalla origins odyssey, ac3 all had their charms in their own ways and are not bad games.what ubisoft needs to do is to identify the strenghts of all their games and combine all of them into 1 perfect game. ac unity had the best parkour and they should start by implementing that parkour with some elements from mirage an other games in other areas. ubisofts big weakness is that they does not seem to be able to identify what´s working and what is not working. the always take 1 step forward but 2 steps back in every new game because of this
When the parkour animations in unity, a ten year old game, are 10x more fluid than this mirage. I’d argue the graphics in unity are a lot better in some ways too. Unity was very flawed and buggy at launch but it was brimming with good ideas and ambition, something AC hasn’t had since. Now AC means nothing because the franchise turned into a generic rpg series with fantasy elements, the actual “assassin” part of assassins creed has essentially been removed, and while mirage brings back some old elements, it does it while feeling like Valhalla which makes it super disappointing.
@@Indigo_1001 Origins had great ideas for an ancient Egypt game but they heavily scaled back on Assassin's Creed elements, a trend that the series still hasn't fully recovered.
Really enjoyed Odyssey, Valhalla, and Origins with all the history and myths in these three great cultures, I’m all for similar trilogy that takes place in the east. And yes I played Ghost of Tsushima 🤩
Man I would like to see a future where we get an Assassin's Creed game which combines great storytelling with sick parkour and stealth, a new trilogy that would end the series with a bang.
"End the series with a bang" ahahah! We are not in 2012, we can't hope for that anymore. This series will continue as long as Ubi$oft exists. Tell a good story with a start, a developement and a conclusion, like Désilets planned? Hell no, this series is just a money printer
Sure. Except there's clouds in the skybox + volumetric cloud rendering. So there are clouds. Just no cloud shadows this time around. Worth noting that the shadows in valhalla are not the result of the direct light being blocked by cloud objects. Its just an effect put in after the fact to simulate it
@@Nick930Granted I wasn't around during AC Valhalla times, but I'd imagine that the UK is basically as cloudy and rainy as today 😅. I couldn't exactly tell you how they did the Cloud Shadows, but my best guess is that they used some form of noise texture with an alpha channel, that influences the direct light source. I used to do a lot of Blender, and that's how I usually addressed cloud shadows. The few times I visited friends in Israel I couldn't remember any clouds. If I look up pictures of Bagdad I can't see any clouds, except for some small puffs here and there. My guess is that removing cloud shadows was intentional 😊
@@Nick930Hey Nick, there ARE rolling cloud shadows in Mirage. I’m in the desert right now outside the Round City, and I’m seeing them. The sky in my game has big puffy clouds at the moment so it seems the clouds are actually shadow casting in this game, unlike the effect in Valhalla. This might have been added with the latest patch.
@@Nick930 That's true, but it does mean you lose far less by eliminating the effect. For really subtle or rare effects it's not going to be worth the cost. Gamers like to complain about games not being 'optimised', so keeping 5% of the frametime wasted on an effect that will barely be noticable by comparison wouldn't make sense. Same for eliminating fire propagation now that it's no longer a core part of the gameplay loop. It'd be nice to have, but it would increase development time and require system resources to keep that running. Probably not worth it if it's not something that's really going to occur much.
The gameplay isn't half bad as well. While it's more like an RPG game, but you can really feel the powerful swing from your character. Good comparison! It's incredible to see how Assassin's Creed has evolved. Mirage and Valhalla both have their unique charm, and it's exciting to witness the evolution of this fantastic franchise.
Mirage was originally supposed to be another DLC expansion for Valhalla. That’s why most of the things pointed out in the video haven’t been changed significantly
@@n1lknarf Not exactly. When Mirage was still in the pre-planning phase, the executives at Ubisoft saw this as an opportunity for the relatively new development team to deliver a smaller AAA title and to see if there is a substantial market for the older Assassins Creed games. It’s more of the fact that it’s a smaller game that uses the same engine but has been tweaked and modified to fit this new game’s needs. Also it’s cheaper and easier to use materials that are already there and modify them than create an entirely new engine for a smaller game. This game is more of a test to see the market for game similar to the older Assassin’s Creed games because if there is, the hope is that Ubisoft will task a smaller studio to make “older” AC games while the bigger studio’s work on the bigger “RPG style” AC games
I can't help it, Assassin's Creed is my gaming comfort food and Mirage is the best it's felt for a long time. It's not reinventing the wheel, but cutting out the bloat is a welcome step in the right direction. Say what you want about Ubisoft, but they really do amazing work realising videogame cities and making them just fun to vibe in.

@@Jourmand1r every video game works by pressing the same button prompts over and over. As if slashing through hundreds of enemies in the RPG games was any better, lol.
If we notice a pattern, The game is majorly getting hate from the RPG players solely because they never wanted this. Huge amounts of content and 150 hours plus gameplay was never Assassins creed, What made Assassins's creed was Mirage based gameplay. I remember running from school to plugging in my trusty PS3 to play revelations and AC2 even after I finished them 2-3 times. The game is meant to be simple and pleasing to look, Mashing one single button and killing 25 plus shows how powerful the assassins were when it came to combat, the series was never repetitive for me and holds a lot of memories for the best moments of gaming, Call me an ac purist but I have played 20 hours plus of mirage since it's release and I will still choose play it over valhalla and odyssey which abandoned the very foundation of Assassins creed.
So to be assassin's creed you need to have a bunch of sand and Egyptians? I'm sorry but the creed can fit many shapes and forms. We're expected to see a modern era version soon enough.
Have to say i find it far more amazing how the viking assassin can pull of those parkour stunts with all the gear/shield etc that is quite damn heavy, in comparison to the assassin essentially just wearing a tunic and some light gear.
Fun fact: Overview. The Assassins were founded by Hassan-i Sabbah. The state was formed in 1090 after the capture of Alamut Castle in modern Iran, which served as the Assassins' headquarters Hassan-i Sabbah was the 1st real life Assasin he gave his followers Hash so that they'd be calm and relaxed before they assasinated people. They were called "hashshashin" which refers to "hasj users/eaters"
I really like Mirage, i just wish it was bigger. Instead of having one city mayde have about 3 and with each city you could get assassin's upgrades like two hidden bades or meet other hidden ones that have different styles on how they investigate targets and take them out.
Can't agree with you, for me its better to have small area but packed with details, quests historical facts, than big opened dead plains which look nice, but there s nothing to do. To address that ac1 had multiple cities, yes, but you should replay ac 1. Cities are very small there,
@@MisterrSky AC 1 felt bigger in scale compared to this game. Mirage is small and is even more empty than the previous games. I was feeling the same, but once I reached like 13 hours playtime I really started to get hooked and onboard with the game's mechanics. The story definitely picks up@@malikcrim13
Ubisoft made the right decision with Mirage as an attempt to head back to the roots. And we see it only in the mechanics of the game for the most part: A field designed for Parkour and a dependance on Stealth. However, the story missions and the side quests themselves don't offer an immersion with the exception of a few missions. So for an obvious next entry in the franchise, Ubisoft needs to put more in the story and mission variety. And yes, a massive improvement would be facial animations lol.
In the entire franchise? If you're talking about the PS4 AC games, ok, I can see the point. These modern AC games were all Witcher 3 wannabes, drastically different style, so it's about taste really
@@aLikeSupremeIt’s objectively not. The braindead AI doesn’t react close to realistically. Stealth shouldn’t be so easy and thoughtless as in the AC games.

I actually prefer AC Valhalla over AC Mirage. There’s just something about it. I’ve played both, even though Mirage feels refined nd everything, I still think Valhalla is better. And people saying Valhalla is way off, its based off on Vikings. And everyone knows they were ruthless. Eivor even said that himself when Basim gave him the Hidden Blade. He didn’t hide it, he simple shows his blade around everywhere. While in Mirage it takes back to the old games. I mean its Viking era, and the battle finishers are still crazy. 👍
Nothing compares to paris in Unity. Idk why ubisoft cant understand that they just need to remake a city like that with the newer games gameplay and just make a great story.
My only complaint so far is that Ubisoft always treats players as someone who has never touched a game before. Some of us have played AC since 2007 and jump right into the game despite mechanics changes. Skipping over the monologue and training should be an option. The story can be covered in the actual game.
@@Stvrgvzz888 mirage and valhalla are overall around equal in combat. valhalla have more weapon variety and more ability variety but mirage does not have the button spam issue of valhalla mirage combat is more realisic hard and skill based. also i kinda like throwing knives more than bow because you can use it faster in the mid of intensive combat i wished they had bow too in the game of course but throwing knifes are more fun and cool imo. blow dart is also cool with the different upgrades. ac mirage weakness is that it has repetitive finisher animations and very few of them. but they have mostly been bad since ac 3 anyway. ac 3 multiple takedown animations was just on a different level in terms of immersion. only 1 on 1 is just boring

Never would people say bad thing about ubisoft world building. It is currently got the biggest asset of all dev. The world is always beautiful. Even on a bad game I probably still go on holiday in ancient time.
I just told myself "eh gonna try it, since it just popped in my Ubisoft Connect library (I used to work at Ubisoft and got an account with the games). 22h later, and I am still playing it lol, it's honestly not bad at all, they retained the classic Ubisoft game feel, but honestly in terms of story, environments, characters, graphics, it's the best installment yet (not counting the OG games of course). I also love the fact that it's not bloated like Valhalla was. And btw props Ubisoft, for giving us yearly templates of all the games that will be coming out, even if I am no longer working there. Excited for Avatar as well! :)
Honestly Mirage gave me what I asked for an actual Assasin protag hidden blade being a one shot and the creed being very involved in the personal story of Basim. I wish it had more unique animations in Parkour so it ain't perfect but a solid 8/10 for me
I havent played an AC since black flag and that was good but i much prefer this kind of setting. Wasnt interested in the rpg trilogy and im glad theyre returning to true ac form. I think ill get it! Love the way the city looks
AC Mirage is so beautiful and it's coming back to the roots i really enjoy the game it's like combination between stealth and open world hope they fix the combat system and add untiy parkour for the next title
After beating Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Odyssey twice and Assassin's Creed Valhalla once and spending an insane amount of time with all of the playthroughs combined, it's nice to see an Assassin's Creed game with a more condensed story where I don't have to worry about constantly grinding and upgrading. I have nothing against the RPG trilogy. I loved Origins and Odyssey. However, I thought that Valhalla was a bit too bloated and padded. Sure, it had its moments, but the story dragged on for far too long. To make matters worse, the game didn't even have a proper ending. I'm actually glad that the franchise went through a three year hiatus, even as a huge AC fan. Assassin's Creed Mirage is a return to form for the series for the most part. It's not perfect and it has a few issues, but it's still great regardless. It's nice to see Basim go from being an NPC in Valhalla to the main playable character in Mirage. AC Mirage has a great story. I really like Basim as a character. The game is gorgeous. The music is absolutely stellar. Voice acting is solid. The fact that combat is only utilized as a last resort is a nice change of pace. Stealth is the primary focus, which I greatly appreciate. Smoke bombs, blending in, eavesdropping, and pickpocketing make their welcome return. Assassin's Creed Mirage has the most densely packed city since Unity and I love it. Ubisoft Bordeaux clearly understand what it means to craft a classic Assassin's Creed title and Mirage is proof of their love for the franchise. However, the game is not without its faults. Animations can be janky at times. Enemy behavior can sometimes be awkward. As much as I appreciate the welcomed return of pickpocketing, I absolutely hate the fact that I have to go through a timed mini-game in order to do it successfully. Sure, I can enable it automatically in the settings options, but I shouldn't have to do so. Failing the mini-game will only result in getting chased after by guards, which is very frustrating to say the least. I know that certain people didn't like the Assassin's Focus, but I'm perfectly fine with it. I actually really like it. It can come in rather handy when you need to eliminate a few guards in quick succession. Mirage's world was built for parkour when compared to Valhalla, where parkour was basically non-existent. So far, I've spent around 10 hours playing Assassin's Creed Mirage and I absolutely love it. I'm really excited to see where the franchise goes next. Thanks, Nick! As always, I really appreciate the enjoyable and detailed video! Keep it up! God bless and stay safe!

Valhalla seems better. More variety of things to do and I like the RPG aspect with gear stats that make a difference. Plus getting to sail and the different types of locations were all beautiful. I didn't have a problem with Valhalla's battle game play cause dual welding large swords, with an emphasis on speed stats to make dodging faster, was so effective and cool. Sounds like Mirage went backwards to be more like the original game, brotherhood or like the one in Egypt. Brotherhood was amazing though. So far, my favorites are Valhalla, Black Flag, and Revelations.
I liked both the ship battles and the raids. The raids were cool because it was more like survival mode gameplay with no way of healing unless you find the occasional bush of berries. I liked the ship battles because of the immediate strategic responses needed or else you die. I still couldn't beat all four ship bosses in black flag even with my stats maxed out 😂 but I totally get what you mean about the tediousness of the common battles tho because it did get old sometimes. I'm still waiting for the AC game set in feudal era Japan, that'd be so cool!
Mirage is beautiful. A going back to roots galore. I love how the gameplay is similar to older AC games but in 2.0 version of everything what made AC II great and it even got the sheer beauty of Origins.
When Valhalla first dropped, I put some time into then stopped playing for a year. Came back and started over and so glad I did. Got over 400hrs into it and still log in each day just to do bounties. Contrary to popular belief, I enjoyed its combat. I’m a huge greatsword fan. And Valhalla scratched that itch for me
I’ve beat mirage then loaded up Valhalla, and Valhalla looks SOOOO much better. Extremely disappointed of mirage's textures what the hell we're in the end of 2023 and games like uncharted 4 that came out in 2016 have much more detailled textures...
I'm loving Mirage so far just because how beautiful and immersive it is. It really feels like a vibrant city. Personally I never connected with Valhalla. For me it felt it extremely tedious and the world a bit soulless.
If mirage had a longer story , more side quests , shops & landmarks to buy like old ezio games & a Bank to collect income , hidden ones to recruit & call into battle after becoming a master in act 4 with the red hidden ones outfit, pigeon coups , it would of been the perfect AC game I remember looking at the bazar or the giant green dome mosque and thinking I wish I could purchase these like you could buy the coliseum in brotherhood or the bazar in revelations , or purchase a tailor , blacksmith or medicine store , I miss that from the old AC games
You could definitely tell it was a Valhalla expansion at some point. But there's also enough work done to where you can see how they were like uh what if this was it's own game.
The biggest difference is that now finally we have got a proper iteration of AC after AC Syndicate. I haven't got the game yet but it feels like I will enjoy and finish the game unlike last 3 witcher3/dark souls clone like action rpg AC Games.
I want an AC taking place in feudal Japan around 1200 AD taking place in Heian-kyō (Kyoto). They can make something nice with the architecture and scenery for sure.
Tbh people don't realise that vikings weren't really based on assassination, it was mainly taken as a shame during nomadic civilization , So Valhalla is not based on old ac games , new projects like Valhalla is good because atleast they are trying to give us more content than just going and killings all the peoples
I'm having fun with it. I found AC Valhalla to be kind of boring after 10 hours. Never even came close to finishing and probably never will. This one is great fun. I like the more stealth focused approach.

I'm really enjoying Mirage! Yeah it would be nice to get even closer to the older games, but I really like what they did with this game, and hopefully it shows the devs that the fans wants more of this style.
Loving that I can actually use stealth in an Assassin's Creed game again lol....but damn do I miss the dual hidden blade..
what i like about mirage is that the combat is not mostly button spam like valhalla. it´s more about dodge/parry/counter system, and instead you can finish off enemies fast like in real life but they can also finish you off fast it´s a bit more like ghost of tsushima in that sense of course GOT is the goat in swordcombat but i feel mirage did a good job in that sense. mirage combat is many times too repetitive with it´s finish animations there is simply too few of them

There's usually less clouds in the desert, which would explain the removal of cloud shadows
I never knew Valhalla looked that good. Impressive
The gameplay isn't half bad as well. While it's more like an RPG game, but you can really feel the powerful swing from your character.

Totally agree!!
Have to say i find it far more amazing how the viking assassin can pull of those parkour stunts with all the gear/shield etc that is quite damn heavy, in comparison to the assassin essentially just wearing a tunic and some light gear.

Fun fact:
Overview. The Assassins were founded by Hassan-i Sabbah. The state was formed in 1090 after the capture of Alamut Castle in modern Iran, which served as the Assassins' headquarters
Hassan-i Sabbah was the 1st real life Assasin he gave his followers Hash so that they'd be calm and relaxed before they assasinated people.

I liked both the ship battles and the raids. The raids were cool because it was more like survival mode gameplay with no way of healing unless you find the occasional bush of berries. I liked the ship battles because of the immediate strategic responses needed or else you die. I still couldn't beat all four ship bosses in black flag even with my stats maxed out 😂 but I totally get what you mean about the tediousness of the common battles tho because it did get old sometimes.

i really liked the first few main story quest of ac valhalla..i had really fun playing that but when it starts to become just making ally it starts to get boring other than that i really likes the visual and story
Real it got bloated if they took some of the aly stuff out not all of itabey reduce the gane by 10 to 20 hours it would be great the main story is actually really good
true when we came to england i was so shocked how beautiful it looks and raid system was good too ..just those ally mission was boaring af

They messed up pretty bad with combat system.
Man u r absolutely right the combat feels bit downgrade as compared to its predecessor.
That’s what the fans wanted. Toned down and back to its roots
There is a huge issue we all are going through now we don't appreciate the complex game mechanism, all we care about is graphics that's why developers focusing more on just pumping up that shiny water. I think we need to talk about side quests BETTER NPC AI and overall how game world works like RDR2.
Ive included a dedicated gameplay section in every comparison ive done for probably the past 2 years now...
@@Nick930 agree but I think we as a gamers are just giving graphics way much more than overall game mechanics and optimisation like recent games are not doing well patch after patch but still nothing. You are doing great work. 👍
Personally I would like to see a direct comparison with Origins.
The results would basically be the same, only origins still has better torch lighting
@@Nick930 but you need to do this please
I like the stealth focus in Mirage, but hate the fighting. I avoid it at all costs because it's just not fun. Looks like Ubisoft could have taken some pointers from Ghost of Tsushima.
Clearly the point was to encourage stealth above all else
@@DV-ou1yuyou don't encourage something by making something else bad, if someone likes to play stealth he'll play regardless of the fighting being good or bad
@@HellonearthlABB I totally agree
I pray they give us a new game plus. I know others didn't like this game because of how short it was, but it made me feel like I was playing the original again.
of course lol ..that was the point
Valhalla is much bigger than Mirage. It was much easier for devs to make Mirage better visually
Extremely disappointed of mirage's textures what the hell we're in the end of 2023 and games like uncharted 4 that came out in 2016 have much more detailled textures...
Ubisoft games are always about lighting
I'm loving Mirage so far just because how beautiful and immersive it is. It really feels like a vibrant city. Personally I never connected with Valhalla. For me it felt it extremely tedious and the world a bit soulless.
Mirage was dope, hope this team gets more projects with more resources.
Valhalla is the best for hunting see the bear see the fish, see the deer everything but the new game Mara they don't have nothing compared to Valhalla
Will we be hunting rattle snakes in mirage or what?
You can hate newer AC games but the worlds in those games are some of the best crafted worlds I saw in gaming for 23 yeaes.
ODYSSEY BEST GAME EVEEER MADE 😂😂😂...3000h...
Valhalla is visually stunning
Agree!!!!!
I'm enjoying your video from Baghdad - while AC mirage sound track is playing in the background in my room.
mirage was a dlc at first tho
I want an AC taking place in feudal Japan around 1200 AD taking place in Heian-kyō (Kyoto). They can make something nice with the architecture and scenery for sure.
Tbh people don't realise that vikings weren't really based on assassination, it was mainly taken as a shame during nomadic civilization ,
So Valhalla is not based on old ac games , new projects like Valhalla is good because atleast they are trying to give us more content than just going and killings all the peoples
assassins creed city >>>>>>>>>>>> assassins creed open world
I'm having fun with it. I found AC Valhalla to be kind of boring after 10 hours. Never even came close to finishing and probably never will. This one is great fun. I like the more stealth focused approach.
15 hours of fun is way better than 1500 hours of boredom.
It's probably the desert setting, but I think Odyssey and Valhalla look better than Mirage.
It's always a good day when Nick uploads
