TEDxGeorgiaTech - Jenay Beer - Meet Your Grandparents' Assistant: The Domesticated Robot

Jenay Beer is a PhD student in Engineering Psychology at Georgia Institute of Technology.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. I was at an Alzheimer's conference last month in New York and they spent most of time discussing what they knew about it, scientifically, and I thought: Let's spend the time doing what really matters -- figuring out ways to get these people companionship. Because any medical doctor will tell you that the most effective means in combating the disease is stimulation of the mind, and consistent exposure to youth and love. Of course we can continue the medical research, but people like Jenay are doing great things in actually taking action to make a palpable difference in senior's lives. Thumbs up.
