I absolutely love your tutorials!! They are straight to the point, no teaching how to stitch, just making the garment! Plus the bits of humor are on point. I am a yarnivore that's for sure. So many tutorials are boring, over discussions on yarn, and so on. Looking forward to the next one!

    • @carmenjijon3614

I agree on that! They waist so much time talking the yarn that I have fast forward to get stressed on the project. Spider I can't say enough about you you're AWESOME!!!! I love your humor too!!!

This is the hardest pattern that I've ever Attempted... But my daughter convinced me I could do it! I've never had to take out so may rows to fix a mistake...I found of course two rows back...I finally stopped at the end of each row to check that every single stitch was right and both sides matched Stitch for stitch...but I did it!!! Thank you so much...I would never have been able to do it on my own...again thank you thank you...can't say it enough!

I am doing two projects by fiber spider the lost souls shawl for my friend and this one, both of these tutorials are easy to follow and I love his jokes. I do pause every now and then because I am a slow crocheter. This spiderette is still learning and I am glad he puts his expertise out there. Thank you Fiber Spider I appreciate your help.

Thank you, once again, my favorite Spider-Man ... made this is bright Christmas red (blue-red, not orange-red), sewed white teardrop pearls on the edge to dangle from the holes in border, and wore over white pant suit for a special party. Amazing compliments !!! Your long-suffering with us is tremendously appreciated by all. HUGS, SOS

First thing...I love your video tutorials and I've already made quite a few of them... But this one was...in a word...nightmare!!! I spent as much time taking it out as I did crocheting it...actually put it away for several months and did six shawls before coming back to it...now I'm going to finish it. Thanks for giving me the confidence to be able to just figure it out!!! You're doing a great job😘

I can't believe I'm crocheting this w/o a chart or pattern. Amazing. The Row/time list is handy. I made my own with a few more facts added to each row. WOW what a great tutorial! THANK YOU Tip: After I finish each row, I fold it over and make sure that each part of the row matches perfectly. Just a handy quick mistake finder.

      @FiberSpider  7 лет назад +3

Thank you so much! Actually, I was debating whether or not to put a border on it or not, think it looks nice either way. As for my tension, that came with many years of constant work - several hours every day! 😉

    • @nicolebriggs1114
      @nicolebriggs1114 7 лет назад +1

I like that you did add a border. I feel that it creates an actual "end" or "edge" to the work and allows some closer lol.
I agree about the tension techniques being developed over the years. It is a craft after all 😊

Hi Craig! I know this is an older tutorial, but I just wanted to let you know that while its March 2019, I've been enjoying this pattern. I had actually repurposed theLion Brand Mandala yarn (Wood Nymph) from a previous project I had completed because I knew the colors would look fabulous with this pattern. I'm planning on using as much as the 3 cakes I originally purchased to make a super size shawl😱... I'm almost done with the 2nd cake!...I love working with the Lion Brand Mandala yarn cakes and I wanted to thank you for introducing me to this lovely and soft yarn....thank you also for inspiring me to crochet so many wonderful projects from your tutorials!😊👍

Absolutely love this pattern--have a solution for getting the pineapples nice and tight when you finish a pineapple. After completing the cluster on the right side, you slip stitch into the ch-2 space of the next cluster and then put in your cluster. It really helps to keep space between the two clusters almost nonexistent. This pattern is gorgeous when finished and I love the Fiber Spider tutorials. Thank you for your hard work.

OH, one more thing: Lion Brand Yarn makes a beautiful DK weight yarn called Mandala in colors similar to the Caron Cakes. If you love Caron Cakes, you'll love Mandala as well and it's less expensive. I've made your Fluffy Meringue shawl out of the Mandala color called Wizard and it turned out GORGEOUS. The lady I made it for just adores it. Love all your tutorials and your book readings! Your voice is very melodious and I like your humor.

Again wonderfully done video I've used Caron cake before for a prayer shawl that someone requested in the earth tones the color you are using is equally nice. For some reason the Caron cake don't look appealing in the cake but once you begin to use them the colors are very appealing. This shawl is another beautiful but another intimidating shawl I'm not a beginner crocheter but afraid to do overly complicated work. I've been able to do the virus shawl thanks to you and going to try the dragon wing shawl and webbed lace I've seen other videos on the pineapple and for one they go too fast and their yarn is too fine to see for video purposes. You chose excellent yarn that is easy to see and your instructions are much easier to follow. I thank you so much crocheting is the only thing left for me to enjoy if you have epilepsy and are disabled you need an outlet. Didn't mean to ramble. Thank you again I'll be crocheting the night away! Good day to you

I know it has been awhile since you have done this video, I had been looking at triangle shawls then adding a bodice to sew together for a top/dress for a upcoming wedding this may be the shawl I will use.

Thanks for doing the entire shawl with us because if you didn't I would not have tried it. Wish you would have finished to the end but I loved it. And you are listing to us and helping us. You are growing because you are going step by step and finishing the project with us It does take time but because of you doing that more will be coming to your videos and following you Trust Me

Thank you very much indeed for the lovely feedback! I try hard to do the best that I can, to make the tutorials comprehensive without being long winded. I also try to respond to questions and give advice when I can. It is indeed a lot of hard work, and I do thank you for your appreciation 😊

Thanks for posting this tutorial. It would be helpful to know the finished size of what you're working on. Also helpful to see your finished project on a hanger or on a person in order to visualize it -- before getting started. Also, for those of us not familiar with the yarn brand you're using, how many yards are in a skein? I like your calm teaching style making it easier to keep following you. Thanks again.

Row 17 - Chain 3. Turn work. Do a cluster into the first ch-2 space. We need to open this out further. If you notice, we have 2 spaces here, a chain 3 and another chain 3 space. In the middle, we have a chain 3 space, another chain 3 space and at the very end we have a chain 3 space and another chain 3 space. That is significant because we now have 3 pineapples that we are building all at the same time. Work a cluster. Chain 3. And then do a DC into ch-3 space, chain 3 do another DC into next ch-3 space and then we do another chain of 3. Into ch-2 space do another cluster. Chain 5, because we are still closing this pineapple up. Do a SC into the ch-3 space, chain 3. SC into the next ch-3 space, SC into the next ch-3 space. Chain 5. Do a cluster into the next cluster. Chain 3, do a DC into the first ch-3 space and then chain 3. Do a DC into the next ch-3 space, chain 3. Work a cluster on top of the previous cluster. Chain 5. Do a SC into the next ch-3 space, chain 3, SC into the next ch-3 space, SC into the next ch-3 space, chain 3. Chain 5 and do a cluster in ch-2 space. Chain 3, DC into the ch-3 space, chain 3. DC into the next ch-3 space, chain 3. And another cluster on top of the next cluster.
What you want to keep in mind is for instance, for the next row, chain up 3 and do a cluster in the cluster. Then because we are still building this pineapple up, you would then do a chain 3, do 11 DCs into this ch-3 space, chain 3, do a cluster, chain 5, go into these last 2 remaining ch-3 spaces, another cluster, and then another 11 DCs etc. We had our 11 DCs and then we would start by doing an increase of 2 in the first and 2 in the last and work your way up. Finish your piece with the middle pineapple. You want to finish by finishing your middle pineapple, where we join our clusters together, where we have the large space, end there.
    Edging.
To finish the edging, do the row that connects the 2 parts together (large V) at the middle pineapple. After you have finished this row, chain 1 and turn work. Slip stitch into the first 3 DCs. Then slip stitch into ch-2 space. Then chain up 3, do a cluster (first chain 3 counts as a DC) do a further 2 DCs, ch-2 and 3 DCs. Chain 1 and then into the next ch-3 do 2 DCs, then chain 1. Into the next ch-3 do 2 DCs, chain 1. Into the next ch-3 space do 2 DCs, keep going across and in every ch-space do 2 DCs, followed by a chain 1. At the cluster, do 2 DCs in ch-2 space, chain 1, 2 DCs. Go directly into the next cluster space and chain 1. Then do 2 DCs, chain 1, 2 DCs. Then proceed for the rest of the top with chain 1, 2 DCs, chain 1, 2 DCs etc. When you hit the next cluster, 2 DCs, chain 1, 2 DCs etc until the end. When you hit the last cluster space, do 3 DCs, ch-2 and 3 DCs.

    Colourway bumbleberry (Caron Cakes)
2 skeins of yarn (Each skein of caron cakes is 383 yards/350 meters, 7.1 oz/200 g)
    Size I crochet hook
    Scissors
    Yarn needle
    Stitch counter
    Single crochet (SC
    Double crochet (DC)
    Cluster stitch (3 DC, ch-2, 3 DC)
    Chain 2 space (ch-2 space)
    Chain 3 space (ch-3 space)
Row 1 - Start with a slip knot. Start with a chain of 4. 2 x DC into the first chain (the first chain is the one furthest from the hook). Chain 2 and then 3 DC into the same first chain (3 DCs in total). Chain 2. Three DCs (chaining 2 before each DC until you have 4 clusters of DCs in total. In total, you will have 4 clusters of DCs separated by 2 chains. Pull the tail tight to close the round.
Row 2 - Chain 3. Turn work. Form a cluster, always start at the beginning and end of every row. Into first ch-2 space work 3 DCs. Chain 2. 3 more DCs in the same space. Start building up the first pineapple. Chain 3. Into the ch-2 space do 1 DC and chain 3. Into the next space do another cluster of 3 DCs. (3 DCs, Chain 2. 3 DCs).
Row 3 - Chain 3. Turn work. Work a Cluster stitch (3 DCs into first ch-2 space, ch-2, 3 DCs). Chain 3. Into the next ch-3 space, do a single double crochet and chain 3. Into the next ch-3 space do a single DC and chain 3. Finish off by doing a cluster into the last ch-3 space.
Row 4 - Chain 3. Turn work. Do a cluster into the first ch-2 space. Chain 3. Inside of first middle space do 11 DCs. Make sure you double count and check you have 11 DCs at this stage. Chain 3. Do a finishing cluster in ch-2 space.
Row 5 - (This is an increase row). Chain 3. Turn work. Cluster stitch in first ch-2 space. Chain 3. In first DC, do 2 DCs (DC in each of next 9, 2 DCs in last DC (13 DCs in all). Chain 3. Do a cluster stitch in Ch-2 space.
Row 6 - Chain 3. Turn. Do a cluster into first ch-2 space. Chain 3. Into the first DC stitch do a SC, chain 3, skip a DC stitch and do a SC in next DC (do all the way across to create gaps - 7 times). Finish row with a chain 3 and go into the last ch-2 space and do another cluster stitch.
Row 7 - Chain 3. Turn. Do a cluster stitch in first ch-2 space. Chain 5 (this decreases pineapple). Into ch-3 space do a SC and chain 3( across all DCs 6 times in all, making 5 gaps). Start doing chain 5 after you have worked across into the ch-3 loops). To finish row, chain 5, do a cluster stitch in last ch-2 space.
Row 8 - Chain 3 and turn work. Work a cluster stitch in first ch-2 space. We are starting to make the current pineapple in the centre by shrinking it down. We need to create a pineapple on both ends. To do this, we need to create a series of 4 clusters, as at the beginning. To create a new pineapple, do 2 clusters in one (3 DCs, chain 2, 3 DCs, chain 2, 3 DCs, chain 2, 3 DCs (4 groups of 3) in first ch-2 space. Chain 5, SC into the first ch-3 space. Chain 3. (5 times). Chain 5 and into next ch-2 space do the next group of 4 clusters to finish.
Row 9 - Chain 3. Turn work. Just like we did at the beginning, we need to build up our pineapple. Start row 9 by doing our cluster into the first ch-2 space. Then we are going to do just like we did at the very beginning and chain 3. Do 1 DC into the next ch-2 space. Chain 3 and then into the next ch-2 space do a cluster of 3 DCs, Ch-2, 3 DCs. So as you can see, it’s pretty much where we started from, the beginning of a pineapple, but its on the end. The middle one we have to continue to shrink, so in order to do so, chain 5, and into our ch-3 space do a SC, chain 3, working into the gaps until the end (4 gaps). Chain 5. Into the first ch-2 space work a cluster. Chain 3, into the next ch-2 space do a single DC and into next ch-2 space work a cluster.
Row 10 - Chain 3 and turn. Do a cluster into the first ch-2 space. Chain 3, 1 single DC into the next ch-3 space, chain 3, do another DC into the next ch-3 space. Chain 3, then another cluster into next ch-2 space. Chain 5. Into first ch-3 space, SC, chain 3, (continue to the end). Chain 5, In next ch-2 space do a cluster. Chain 3, Work a single DC into first ch-3 space, chain 3, another single DC into next ch-3 space, and we chain 3 again, and then we finish off with another cluster in the last ch-2 space.
Row 11 - Chain 3 and turn. Into the first ch-2 space work a cluster. Chain 3. Miss first ch-3 space and work 11 DCs into centre space. Chain 3. Work a cluster in first ch-2 space. Chain 5 (as we need to shrink the pineapple), SC into ch-3 space, chain 3, SC into next ch-3 space to the end. Chain 5. Work a cluster into next chain 2 space. Chain 3. Miss next ch-3 space and work 11 DCs into the centre space, (Count there are 11). Chain 3, Finish off with a cluster into the last ch-2 space.
Row 12 -Chain 3 and turn. Into the first ch-2 space work a cluster. Chain 3, (into the first and last DC work 2 DCs (2 DCs in the first and 2 DCs in the last, going from 11 to 13). Chain 3. Work another cluster in next ch-2 space. Chain 5. Go directly into last ch-3 space with a SC and chain 5. Work another cluster. Chain 3. (into the first and last DC work 2 DCs (2 DCs in the first and 2 DCs in the last, going from 11 to 13). Chain 3. Finish off row 12 with another cluster within the cluster (3 DCs, chain 2, 3 DCs).
Row 13 - Chain 3. Turn work. Start with a cluster in ch-2 space. Chain 3. Work a SC into the first DC, chain 3. Skip a DC, SC into the next and work across to last DC. Chain 3. Work another cluster of 3 ¬¬¬¬¬¬DCs, ch-2, 3 DCs. Now, we are going to bridge the gap. We are finishing our pineapple here. We don’t do any chains, just go directly into the next cluster and work another cluster. When joining in the centre, you want it to be nice and tight, because if it’s loose, it will ¬look ungainly and it’s difficult to go back and fix once above the rows. Then continue on with the rest of the row. Chain 3, SC into the first DC, chain 3. Skip 1 DC and SC into the next DC, chain 3 and work across to the end. Chain 3 and finish by doing a cluster in the last ch-2 space.
Row 14 - Chain 3. Turn work. Do a cluster into first ch-2 space. If you recall, about remembering the tricks of where we change from 3 chains to 5 chains, this is it, because when we get to the end, because we did have 6 ch-3 spaces, well, by going across this time, we end up with 5, hence that is why we need to start this by doing 5 chains, so chain 5. SC into ch-3 space, chain 3, to the end. So as previously, we have 5 ch-3 spaces, hence why we need 5 chains at the beginning. Then chain 5, do a cluster into the next cluster, because we finished the pineapple below, we need to create a pineapple above it. So start by chaining 2, and do a cluster into the cluster ch-2 space. MAKE IT NICE AND TAUT. The creation of new pineapples is something we are going to get into. Chain 5, SC into the first ch-3 space, chain 3, SC into next ch-3 space, SC into next ch-3 space, SC into next ch-3 space, SC into the next ch3 space, SC into the last ch-3 space and chain 5. Do another cluster into the next cluster in ch-2 space.
Row 15 - Chain 3. Turn work. As I said before, it’s a matter of increasing and decreasing pineapples. Right now, this pineapple, since we did our chain 5, it is on the closing, the decrease) and because of that we need to start another one at the end. Every time on the pineapple we do a chain 5, we need to create a new one. So again, just like where we have the 4 clusters, that’s what we have to do again, another 4 clusters. Chain 3 and do another group of 4 DCs, separated by 2 chains. So, we did the foundation for the next pineapple and we’re going to continue to shrink this one by starting with a chain 5. Do a SC into the first ch-3 space, chain 3, SC to the next ch-3 space, SC into the next ch-3 space, SC into the next ch-3 space, chain 3 and SC into the last ch-3 space. Chain 5 again. Then work a cluster on top of the cluster. We still have to build up this centre pineapple, so ch-2, do a DC into this ch-2 space, chain 2 again, do a cluster into the next cluster space. What we are going to do from here, is chain 5 across, SC into the ch-3 space across to the end of all ch-3 spaces, chain 5 and then because it’s all about symmetry, after you do these here, chain 5 and then into this cluster space, you are going to do 4 groups of 3 DCs, separated by 2 chains, just like at the beginning.
Row 16 - Just to recap, we have our chain 5, ch-3 space, ch-3 space etc, chain 5 and then at the end of round 15 we have 4 groups of 3 DCs. So to continue on with row 16, chain 3 and turn work. Do a cluster into the first ch-2 space. We need to start opening up the pineapple so chain 3, do a DC into the next ch-2 space, 3 chains, and then do another cluster into the next ch-2 space. Continue on closing up the pineapple, so chain 5, work a SC into the next ch-3 space, chain 3, SC into the next ch-3 space and work across to the end. Chain 5, do a cluster into the next cluster. We are going to build up the base of the next pineapple even more, so we are going to chain 3, and then do a DC into the DC stitch, chain 3, do a cluster into the next ch-2 space, chain 5, SC into the next ch-3 space, chain 3, SC into the next ch-3 space and work across to end of SCs, chain 5, cluster into the next ch-2 space. Chain 3, single DC into the next ch-2 space, and then end with a cluster. Part 2 to follow
