This was an amazing project to work on, and the nose wheel was just to keep me from crashing like I did with my first attempted maiden. Keep the challenges coming! It will be awesome to see what the community comes up with next!
Dad used to fly R/C and any time he went to try something new, he would go what he called "3 mistakes high" and then try it. Also this was awesome to watch.
Imagine your day is to get up and design and have fun! Continuing the growth of the hobby and putting fun into the hands of all at an affordable price. Can't say enough about the huge impact you have had on the hobby of RC Flying. Thank You!
Thank you so much for the kind words and also for your support! We want to impact people in a positive way using the gift of flight. Our community has gotten behind that and taken that vision to New Heights. (Pun intended). JB
It's always fascinating when you do multiple videos on how an idea evolves into an aircraft: this guy, and other recent designs like the Jenny and Twin Otter.
Hey FT, I believe you guys made one way back in the day but I’d love to see an OV10 bronco build again. Living in California for 20 years I’ve seen the cal fire ones flying around during summer my whole life and it’s a rather interesting plane history as well. Think yall could make a super cool one!
A big congratulations to John. An excellent design. Engineering at its finest. Now we just need an RC pilot to test it 😂🤣😂 (sorry guys. Had to rub some salt). Blessings to all.
We are going to have the plans available for the retro rocket. It will be on the store available for purchase. FTCA members will receive a discount on the plans as well.
The Horton 229 Germany's first attempt at a stealth jet fighter that was made out of wood to absorb radar detection technology that was ahead of its time and even using current materials Northrop Grumman tested a full-scale replica of the Horten Ho 229 aircraft to study if it was truly stealth a great video if you ever look it up
It’s time for FF to build a twin motor thrust vectoring F22 fighter jet, maybe even able to launch a rocket?? Do you accept the challenge?🤔 By the way great video gentleman.
Oooo ooo video idea what if you guys make the F-15 with the new gimbal system p.s i’ve been watching since 2017 or 2018 my first video was the A-10 warthog (i think) and im glad i can still enjoy your content 💯💯
Hey cool Project have you guys looked into thrust vectoring vtols like the trijet by dietmar Metz presented by essential rc somewhere on RUclips there is an interview with dietmar where he explains some of the channel mixing to achieve the vtol capabilities with the thrust vectoring EDFs.
Looking at the vector thrust nozzle design could u possibly shrink it to take smaller motors that would pivot inside the housings and poss make a working harrier jump jet able to perform proper VTOL and poss even as a little challenge try to land it on a model aircraft carrier as the big issue is the transition form vertical hover to horizontal flight and back to hover 🤔 loving the posts and the amazing builds 👍have a fantastic one guys stay safe take care all the very best from Scotland to you 👍 👊
I saw someone with crow and the EDF. He deployed it mid flight and it dropped like a rock into the ground. Too much! I prefer my straight up EDF and the prop on a swivel.
"I used thrust vectoring to flat spin for some reason" Am I wrong that thrust vectoring is an extremely robust control system that can be used for a ton of interesting things? Why was the most interesting thing you could think of a flat spin?
@@FliteTest thanks for responding, ah thats ☹️ but will definitely be taking a look at the forms and other designs. As i went with pinions, ring and something kinda different. My total weighs 24gr, edf 64 and 70 mm overall length 120mm
Hey RC airplane community! Reaching out for some criticism on my channel. I feature all the pilots at our field in Los Angeles. Let me know if you like the production value, style etc of the videos. Any advice or suggestions highly appreciated!!
While you guys are at the 3d printing, can I make a suggestion? I would love to see a Glaive from the movie Krull, drone. It would be cool to have you guys throw it just for it to fly off into a foam board with a monster drawn on it.
I think that’s too far back. Really the reason this channel is becoming boring is that it is doing quantity over quality. I miss the old days (not that old) of when they did unique and really creative content. I would rather wait.

I need one of these TV units for my Monster Retro Rocket! Started to build it today. You did good, John!
@@michaelspunich7273 if you can give accurate measurements, or provide a model number, I may be able to create a custom TV for your Monster EDF

Also this was awesome to watch.
Love this a lot! Congrats on winning the contest John Becker. Great design. I can't wait to try it.
We had so much fun with it ... until Josh crashed it 😂
Finally you guys got rid of the Spektrum radios, that's the best thing that happened to this channel in years!
We absolutely love our radio masters and also the new ELRS protocol
I use a Spektrum NX10SE and a Radiomaster TX16s Mk2 and I think they're both great radios. Seems to be the in thing to hate Spektrum these days lol 😂
@@r1m.dog78Yeah I’ve never had an issue with spektrum and I’ve used them for almost 7 years now.
@@r1m.dog78have the dx8e and support is horrible (broke in days and they wouldn’t fix it) and it’s so confusing to program

I had a lot of fun working on this contest, even though I didn't win. I would love to see more community challenges in the future!
That thrust vectoring nozzle looks so cool. Reminds me of seeing the space shuttle test the thrust vectoring before launch.
It's always fascinating when you do multiple videos on how an idea evolves into an aircraft: this guy, and other recent designs like the Jenny and Twin Otter.
This brought back memories from the thrustvectoring viggen you built years ago

That retro rocket is so goofy looking... I love it haha
It's become one of our favorite airplanes!!!
I imagine it's a lot like a jetski, where you can only course correct under power. The moment you cut power, you lose authority. Very cool.
The receiver output configuration can also be done via the ELRS Lua script on the radio. No need to use Wifi for that.
That's good to know
Beautiful and simple design
Yes very simple but VERY effective
Nice! Now this is community content!
More to come!
Siete i migliori!, sempre innovativi!, non demordete mai!. Grandiiiiiii🎉
Thank you!!!
Upon seeing 2 powered-up flight-ready Retro Rockets lined up on the Runway, my first thought: "Baby Elephant Walk!"
A big congratulations to John. An excellent design. Engineering at its finest. Now we just need an RC pilot to test it 😂🤣😂 (sorry guys. Had to rub some salt).

3d printed one for the ft viggen a while ago. Lots of fun!
We should really revisit the Viggen
Will you release plans on the retro rocket it would be really helpful

Awesome ! Nice and yes, please more challenges !

The ability to bind multiple entirely sparate elrs recievers and remap the channels lets you do some pretty funky stuff yeah lol.

I'd love to see a community challenge for designing a 1 sheet foamboard plane.
NOW THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!!! We will have to make that happen

Im printing this now!
Another winner🤩
It never gets boring ❤️
Iv been waiting to see you do this thanks
Absolutely!!!
What else would you like to see?
Your Next Challenge: Make an X-59 tribute with the Retro rocket with the EDF.
I saw someone with crow and the EDF. He deployed it mid flight and it dropped like a rock into the ground. Too much! I prefer my straight up EDF and the prop on a swivel.
at least it was level when it smacked the ground. mine usually hits the top 😆
Yay! Now I can build that F-16 VISTA !!
Love the content. Thank You for the vids.
Thanks for watching!
Is it possible to build a,V/STOL model plane now like the harrier jump jet and /or a VTOL like the V-22 Osprey?
Mh, i guess a challenge where the community have to build the best Speedboad/3D Plane 2 in 1 with at least 1m wingspan would be nice.
We might have to do that!!!
That was awesome!
Glad you liked it!
great
Twin edf like an eagle fighter two pilot design?
I want to see a twin motor thrust vectoring system. Similar to the F-22.
That would be so fun!!! I bet we can make a plane that has two DEF's. Maybe we can do it with the master series planes? What do you think?
@@FliteTest my dad is a retired Air Force fighter pilot and he took me around at an air show a few years ago and was showing me around an F-22.
I woulder if you could make a rocket like an AIM-9 Sidewinder looking rocket using thrust vectoring and do a tail landing with it.
That would be really interesting
Extremely awesomeness 🛫🚀
Thank you!!!
6:24 some starting.
U guys should try 3d acro
Can someone describe the stick movement for the flat spins. Throttle to a 100% and rudder all the way left?
so cool!!!
Build a version of the F4 Phantom, RF 4 B , fpv ing side and forward, you design one , I'll buy one and I'll add canards, making it a YRF4E, 62-12200.
You could stack them and double the articulation
That would be so cool
I would live to see if someone can make the Harrier vector vents and Rolls Royce Pegasus engine for VSTOL flight
Can you make a messerschmitt 163 and fly it but without the and B chemicals as l don't wish you to get hurt.
Use it to make harrier?
I love it
Whys up with the land cruiser / hovercraft? It's been 6 months
Id like to see vtol
Background music reminds me of Goat Simulator 🐐
"I used thrust vectoring to flat spin for some reason"
Am I wrong that thrust vectoring is an extremely robust control system that can be used for a ton of interesting things? Why was the most interesting thing you could think of a flat spin?
Yes thrust vectoring is used for a ton of amazing moves but unfortunately ... Josh crashed it before we could try anything else 😂
I didnt know about this competition, last year i made my own. Can i still enter the competition?
Unfortunately, This thrust vectoring challenge is over but you can still share it on the forms that way other pilots can print it and use it.

Can't find anyone on YT building a Vertibird from Fallout. There's an opportunity to be the first. ;)
We might have too put that on the schedule
so why not use thrust vectoring flaps, instead of full engine thrust vectoring

Can I join ?
Do you guys crash your aircraft intentionally for dramatic effect?
I see the problem, you dont have wings xD
YOU CANT PARK HERE!?
I bet flight test can’t make a TBD-1 Devestator
We might have to look into that
That sounds Awesome! What about torpedoes with the TBD-1 Devastator.
Josh not jason got wrong othere video...
I hope the designers of the pieces you give away get some form of payment
Did you see the challenge details? The winner got 500 dollars store credit. We bumped it higher because of the awesome nose gear design.
Needs retracts...
YES!!! DIY Version?

why don’t you try building an F35 and put that thrust factory in that
