Thanks for including the Mini Mags Don. I've always found the 36 grain HP Mini Mags to be pretty darn accurate for non-match ammo. It's been my go-to ammo for supersonic .22 for decades.
I have always considered CCI to be one of the "premium" of budget oriented ammunitions and usually easy to find in the local big box stores as well. For the guy hunting or even just having a fun range day shooting their rimfires CCI will usually do a very acceptable job.
I had the exact same results through a CZ 457 😮 the hollow points did better than the target rounds, actually by quite a bit. Thanks for sharing Don!! 👍 😊
Amazing CCI comes through yet again. The stuff is MONEY 95% of the time. I recall in the last few years there were a couple of big lots that got out in the wild that were less than ideal compared to what they normally deliver. Anyway, great series Don. Man I love your range setup. Have a great weekend. Cheers
Wow...and I was thinking this was going to shoot the same as Winchester! I will check it through my CZ LRP and my Blaser now. Excellent review as always! Hi from NZ!
My best groups ever was with the AR Tactical and my Remington 597. The AR Tactical is a SV bullet with a jacket and some extra giddyup. I wish that I could find some.
@@jerryhoogeveen I did test a newer box of 100 that didn’t perform quite so good. But it was still acceptable. Gonna be a big difference lot to lot just like any other ammunition.
Don I posted a link to this video and told about the series on the ammo section of the Appleseed forum. I strongly suggested subscribing. Hope it bumps your numbers and traffic.
Thanks for another great video. I have the same results with Mini Mag. The hollow points are more accurate than the solids. Think you want to be careful with those Velocitors if that is a match chamber in the Tika.
@@RimfireSS Something that would be interesting to me is, you have a relatively inexpensive round that is easily accessible, I wonder how many guns like it.
@@Kyrimfireandhobbies did the shoot off a few days ago. Think people are going to be surprised which one won. But, I’ll be doing something special with it, that is a great idea.
Thanks Don! I was my impression that CCI Mini-Mags were a bit higher power 22LR, ie .357 vs 38 Special. You confirmed that. Mini-mags are not up to Stinger velocities but should feed and operate in all guns reliably. Have you tested at longer range distances for 22LR, SV and HV? Does trans-sonic destabilization really occur? It would seem at 1300 FPS, the Mini-Mags would still be supersonic at 100yds.
@@glenk2254 actually from what I understand it drops subsonic by like 30-40 yards. I have not done anything past 100 with this kind of Ammo. Sounds like another video may be in store.
My experience has been that Mini Mags will surprise you sometimes. I think it is the most consistent of the common "high velocity" varieties of LR (in the 36-40 grain range), but I admit I haven't tried any of the European versions of that.
The Aussie supply of Velocitors must have dried up. Mark & Sam shot CCI Standard Velocity on the 450 yard pop can challenge. Can every 50 yards. Mark called out the dope on almost each distance.
If I remember correctly back when I had the range to do so it was either the M22's, Mini mags or the Velocitors were the rounds I used to take out to 600yards, the M22 was pure liquid anus juice out of my M&P-1522 last month when I got a brick, really gotta take my Savage MKII back out and run those through it again. Since I started reloading I been on a centerfire kick lol gotta get back to my 22s and 17hmrs
Im thinking about getting some of that to see what it does in my guns. I have been staying under 1100 FPS. The faster stuff hasnt been historically accurate. I am curious what that stuff will do for you at 100 also. Im also curious how they would do reprofiled and if they would tighten those flyers?
@@RimfireSS funny thing. I was going through my 22 LR stock and found 5k of mini mags in there. I probably ordered them for my semi guns and forgot I had them. I thought you were done with the mini mags. I'll wait to see what else you dig up on them.

A lot of questions…… I’m assuming you understand that barrels need to be seasoned for a particular bullet/lube combo-did you do that BEFORE you started shooting the AR tactical? They BOTH use the same bullet lube-what had you fired through The rifle before you started your test starting off with the Tactical? The accuracy improved dramatically after some rounds down the tube. Regarding velocities-I got the impression you felt the AR tactical failed because its velocity was slower than the MiniMags??? The published velocity for the Tactical is 1200 fps which is REALLY CLOSE to what you got AND the published velocity for the 40 grn MiniMag is 1235 which was also really close to what you got. Hard to believe CCI told you they were exactly the same bullets because my 22 rifles measured on my Garmin match yours. They can NOT be the exact same bullet……..
@@danulman8837 I always season the barrel before The I test ammunition. I could care less what the velocity of a ammunition is, I look at the SD and the spread. I was just stating that the CCI mini mag was a hot round compared to posted velocity.
@@danulman8837 as far as what CCI said. They stated that the ammunition no matter how it’s packaged has the same round. So if mini mag is packaged in a 100 round pack or a 300, there the same round. Some manufacturers put lower quality ammunition, so basically “rejects” in bulk packaging, and the ammunition that met there target specs in separated packaging. They do not.
