As a first time VR headset buyer/user I believe this is going to be the best headset to get into the VR game space
what about the PICO 5? from what we know the pico 5 wil offer better resolution, an actual DP wired connection for PCVR users. and it cost less the quest 3. keep in mind those are just leaks, allthogh i hope thier true.

@@ahumbledude757I’d say that’s probably true, but they are way behind on software and games and it will likely take them a long time to catch up
@@ahumbledude757 if that is true, it still all depends on the software and Developer support. I don’t know how accurate these numbers are, but from the information I found online only about 55% of the contents that is available on the quest 2 is available on the pico4. I would love a better option to the quest, but as it stands, one of the problems with the quest, for me personally is the lack of good AAA games so a headset that offers less is a no go for me. But this could all change it’s just something to consider.
The biggest con to Quest is there are no MUST-have games. Besides RE4, Meta is really hurting on that front. Back when I bought the Quest two, I was just happy to be in virtual worlds. But, at the end of the day, we need a serious big-budget developer in the mix. That's why I was excited about PSVR2, but nothing has come of that yet.
Skyrim VR is still my favorite VR experience because it was an actual AAA game. No offense to all the other great VR games out there, but that is what we are missing in this space

Exactly. No point to upgrade. Same crappy Quest 2 game library. Nothing worth playing. My Quest 2 has been collecting dust.
Bone lab, blade and sorcery, red matter 1 and 2 and a whole lot more. And there's still more great games coming this year like assasins creed nexus and asgards wrath 2.
if you want a cheaper and arguably better headstrap wait for bobovr to come out with there headstrap for the q3 it will be around the same as their m2 strap but can go onto the quest, if you already have one of there straps for the q2 they are also making a conversion kit to fit the q3
Two other reasons not to buy would be still comes with LCD displays and no local dimming. However the positives definitely out weigh the negatives so it’s a day one buy for me 😎

😮I JUST GOT MINE and I am blown away by the pass through and just the little tech demo game that comes with it is crazy fun!! I literally thought there was a creature behind my gas fireplace and was looking behind it! Lol
Good points on the CON side, but I am very excited about this new headset. I will probably use it more for PCVR, but will definitely want some of the games from the Oculus Store. Also, the new headstrap does look comfortable. I have a BOBOVR M2 strap that will have a retrofit kit for the Q3. But I am also thinking if the strap is comfy, I might just try 3D printing a power bank holder to fit on the strap. Looking forward to trying this out for sure. Many possibilities. @@Densmode3dp nah, i don't think that's due to wifi 6 specifically, he actually replied to someone (on reddit) asking if he should get a wifi 6 router and he replied that he should only buy wifi 6 if he had a lot lot of issues, like interfering issues.
@@Densmode3dp can confirm that it's brilliant for PCVR & works flawlessly with Virtual Desktop. PCVR performance feels improved though I think that's placebo from the better video codec and image quality due to pancake lenses.

Awesome video! I have however one suggestion in regard to the last point. In comparison to Quest Pro, while the Quest 3 natively does not have a design that allows you to see the surrounding environment instead of the light blocker, if we forget about the head strap it is basically the same without the light blocker as the Quest Pro... when combined with the halo head strap like BoboVR M2 Plus, the headset can just hang in front of the face, because it does not have to be pressed to stick on the head. This means that if someone has a head strap like this then it is essentially the same experience as on the Quest Pro.
Additionally in regard to the cost of accessories, if someone has a BoboVR head strap, they will be able to buy a conversion kit soon to make it compatible with the Quest 3, and in that case, they would not need to pay extra, because this kit will be very cheap, probably something like 10-15$.
I'm upgrading from the Oculus Rift cv1 to this. I'm going to be blown away. Awesome video.

I am also a fellow CV1 owner upgrading to this. With such good pros over quest 2, coming from an older headset the cons almost don't matter :P
Finally! An content creator that compares the Q3 lenses with ANY other heatset. I hate that EVERYONE its following metas NDA to the smallest letter and comparing Q3 only with the Q2... Of course it is an improvement...you are comparing a "samsung S2 with an S22"! My biggest doubt with these glasses was if they have inherited the lenses of the Q-PRO. The fact that you compare the Q3 with the Pimax is a very very good thing.❤❤🎉

I can't remember the last time I was so happy with a purchase. It's better than my Quest 2 in every way and a huge (ie not incremental) improvement in every area. Biggest things: wider FOV & no Fresnel distortion; and how compact it is. The latter is crucial because the Quest 2 had trained me not to move my head too much, especially not up and down.
Not sure about buying the new quest (probably will) but really sure about subscribing to your channel . Your a delight to watch . New subscriber here for sure . Interesting video too

Need to know what valve is up to before i buy another headset. I hope valves next headset is similar but with a micro OLED screen and a higher field of view.
I’m looking forward to finding uses to implement some of the features of this headset into my digital cinematography degree. With the depth sensors there is potential to use this to import real world assets into virtual productions and other uses. Plus the 4K cinematic fov features that you didn’t mention for content creators that were mentioned in the dev conference.
for your use case a lidar scanner would be great ...apples vision pro due out next year would work great.

Even Resident Evil 4 played on the quest directly (not hooked up to PC) was such a great experience it made me want to return the quest 2..... Because nothing else really compares game wise. So Im not getting the quest 3 until more games of that quality are released. Every RE game regardless of headset (like RE8 on PSVR2 or even RE7 on PSVR1) are soo good it just shows you that the tech doesn't really matter. ITS THE GAMEPLAY.

What do you think if you use wifi 6 ( or 6E ) with this quest pro this pictures enough there is no articact on the screen? ( AV1 codec is much better than the old one ) So the Quest 3 would be sharper and it means there won'T be so much picture quality differenc with Crystal which use display port or the wireless VR won't be the same picture quality than the dedicated display ports PC VR ? it is impossible? I haven't gotten enough use out of Q2 with all the accessories i bought for it, so im gonna skip 3 and get 4. Im not too big on mixed reality and i think it's too early for it to be "good". Same reason i didn't get oculus cv1 in the first place.

I really want the Q3, and I've had every Oculus/Meta headset before it, save for the Go (started on Rift), but I know the 128 isn't enough for me, but the 512 is too expensive. I'm going to have to wait a while until I have some extra funds unfortunately.
The reason im not sure i want the quest 3 rn is because of the price and because of the fact that the storage is so small and we can't buy extra storage. We would have to buy another headset for more storage

Even after 2 years i still get amazed going into the quest 2 so im pretty sure getting a 3 will be the right choice
The price of 589 for the Quest 3 is for the launch period. As we are just few months to Christmas, we might see 10-15% price cuts for gift attraction.
But as on next year we will see lot of new challengers, like example Pico 5, my hypothesis is that Meta did just reserve a way to cut the price 6 months from now by 90, making it 499 device. Or even cut further to 459 or something, and then push aggressively the competition out.
I thought it is interesting that Amazon is currently showing that 6K+ Quest 3 headsets have been bought in the last month. When I preordered mine a week or so ago, it was 4K.
I like to think of the MR capabilities as a plus that is there if you want to use it. Of course this is a VR headset first, and MR second!

I really found your review helpful but I am an elderly grandmother that isn’t interested in the gaming capabilities of the Quest 3 I own the Oculus 2 and what I use mine for is to watch movies and to explore other countries around the world. I never see anything mentioned or discussed about these capabilities or features. I would like to know if it will be possible to have access to Netflix, Prime Video and RUclips on the new Quest 3. I am fairly technologically illiterate so any guidance you could offer me would be helpful. Thank you.

Do you think companies like VR cover/Kiwi/BoboVR will be able to design a facial interface that brings our eyes closer to the screens?
The higher the extras prices like a strap wil make the 3th party prices also higher. If orininal was 100 when 3rd party is 35 but if iriginal is 120 then 3rd party will be 55.
That isn't how it works. The 3rd party one's aren't competing with the official one, they are competing with each other. If a company charged significantly more then they needed to another company can just price theirs lower and steal all their sales.
1:04 Quest Pro has 2 displays, not one. Quest pro has lower fov and pixel density, but has local dimming and a qled display for more dynamic color and truer blacks compared to the quest 3.

8:57 I mean it isn't a Quest 2 a pure get you started with VR headset but the world's first and only Mixed reality headset... Meaning you not only have AR and VR which a quest 2 and AR glasses cost way more for less capblity but you also get Mixed reality which means stuff can easly blend between the two in a way nothing truly has before.
Is it 100% certain that Q3 won't support DP over USB?

Personally I don't think headsets should have more FOV until the resolution is much higher. PPD needs to stay high.
I'm curious how good the Q3 is compared to my Pico 4 for PCVR. The lenses sound like they are a bit better but I doubt it's as big of a leap as there was from old fresnel to the Pico 4 pancakes for example. Time will tell. I'm also very curious about how much decoding latency there will be at 150 Mbps with the faster processor.
Virtual Desktop update that just got announced says due to the new processor, Quest 3 will support AV1 encoding and I believe up to 200mb/s bitrate. That’s why I decided to change from Pico 4 (still interested in Pico 5 in the future though)

Have you seen that there have already been reports of lens quality issues on Quest 3 similar to Quest Pro. This is perhaps due to a phenomenon called IPS glow, where you get a brownish haze in the periphery or corners of the lenses when in dark scenes. It is not clear if it is a problem with the panels, the lenses or both combined. It seems that some people have had this worse than others on Quest Pro and Meta exchanged their HMD's without problems.
Have you heard about this issue?
I had to return 3 Quest 2's before I got one with good lenses. I don't want to go through that again.

display port is only supported by pico 5 max, which costs >1,000,-
Although the pico 5 max will be absolutely amazing and will beat Q3 in about every aspect (except for compatibility and available SW) it also costs much more.
what do you think the Q3 visual quality is to far from crystal or it is close? (sharpness FOV ect ) wich heaedset is the best if i usually use this room scale VR but i am very interested the best visual but i am afraid from crystal because of bad sofware suppoert bugs and tracking and weight proglems but i think i will love the screen but if the Q3 can catch a little with visuals and it won't be too bed i will chose Q3
Pancake lens is much better than Aspheric due to Aspheric having warping effect.
If you can wait until next year there are 4k per eye + microOled + panake lenses headsets coming from Valve and Pico.
These will be a generational upgrade from something 2k per eye like Q3 and will have DP.

Fov is such a major issue! What if you remove the headset's eye pad cushion so you can gain peripheral vision of your surroundings while using it?
I'm going to do that when I receive mine.
I also don't like the black void that surrounds the image, but I don't want to take the headset apart to paint that while, I wish it came as white though, black sends you to sleep.
True but black is much easier on the eyes
@@marblarrmarblarr138 then grey, if that what what was bothering them, black is just not ok for me at all, in any case the screen brightness is far too bright even at its dimmest, I find THAT harsh on the eyes, more harsh than just a paint color that only reflects light and doesn't actually emit light.
The problem is products are made for the taste of the majority, and if you are slightly different, everything is a pain.
Ipd adjutment dial alone is a big upgrade from Quest 2
do you think the quest 3 can use the full version of vr chat or will it still be a slimmed down version where only some worlds and avatars can be used unlike pc version of vr chat?
I think it will still be on a separate version but who knows maybe with the stronger processor maybe quest users will finally be able to see all avatars.
As for me it doesn’t matter as I have gaming pc and plan to use link cable.

Quest 3 native still can't use the full version of VRChat. Even though a lot of RUclipsrs are saying Quest 3 closed the gap with PCVR which would have people imagining that it could do something like this, yeah no. Not even close. The gap between what smartphone can do and what PC can do is pretty wide, and the rubber really meets the road on that difference in something like VRChat.
I did some testing with Quest 3 native vs Quest 2 native in VRChat, and Quest 3 is definitely significantly improved. The same limitations are there though. But the resolution and frame rate are noticeably better. To put this in perspective though, I joined a world with 15 avatars in it and was getting 29 fps. And that's the cut down Quest version avatars, not even PCVR avatars.

One of the things that i want, is that my games can be run on the pc, because i want quality and not some tuned down graphics, because it runs on the quest.
Rift S is very good for PC,standalone headsets not ,don't waste your money on trash.
Same here still on Rift S. FOV will be better plus pancake lenses, for us who will upgrade form old VR set it will be a nice upgrade.

I still run the rift s on pc because my gpu is old (1070), but my quest 2 has much better resoulution and even fov. as far as pc headets theres not much options without going enthusiast level (pimax, bigscreen etc) untill valve release thier new one. reverb g2 is great for sims but the controllers let it down for general VR. if you have a decent gpu then quest 3 will make a huge upgrade to the rift s as a pc headset...and if you dont like meta, then dont buy thier games and take comfort in that they are losing money if you only use it for pcvr.

I’m not sold on MR/AR. I would’ve preferred them to invest that time, money and effort into improving the VR experience. But who knows maybe I’m just not seeing the full picture. But at this point, I could not care any less about that aspect.
I think MR/AR in the Quest 3 didn't really cost them that much. It added RGB cameras and took time to mix depth sensor data with passthrough images. Any other MR/AR improvement would also be a VR improvement. Better tracking to use augments? It's better headset tracking for VR. Better hand tracking? It works in VR too. Depth sensor? Improves tracking and guardian setup. Better display? Improves both. Half body tracking? It isn't even that good for MR/AR. I can't really see what they could've improved more in VR mode without increasing the headset cost that would've justified removing MR/AR R&D.
Now let's talk the probable Meta strategy. They want to dominate the market of the "new smartphone" and they know that AR with wearables is the best contender for "new smartphones". So they will R&D MR and AR all they can. The Rayban glasses they're creating and the Quest 3 MR/AR are stepping stones to prepare themselves for the AR era. So even if Quest 3 wasn't AR focused, they would've spent money on AR/MR R&D.
So from my point of view, adding better MR/AR capabilities didn't hinder the VR aspect of quest 3. In fact it may have even improved, since a passthrough forced them to have forward facing cameras, which will cover more controller blindspots for tracking. Using your whole house as play area is also a possibility now! There's a VR puzzle game that uses only the playspace you have to generate puzzles (TraVRsal), so maybe you could have a your house shaped escape room!
The main reason I'm drawn to the Quest 3 is its MR and AR capabilities. I could utilize it as additional screens for my work, allowing me to wear the headset continuously without removing it. It offers a similar experience to the HoloLens or Apple Vision Pro but at a more affordable price. Moreover, I believe Meta has struck a good balance with all its features. I'm considering the Quest 3 primarily for productivity purposes.
I give you one reason more that's keeping me from buiying it, Black Friday is knocking on the door for November's end and i think the price for the basic version could slow down for that

@@DiscoVRTetiana Right but you also mentioned the price is too high as a reason so i mentioned a better period for some better deal. When the Quest 2 first came out there was a cheap 62GB version for 300$ and i bought it for that. Now they putted a bundle for pre-orders so i was also curious about that game that comes with the bundle if it's worthed or not. The passthrough improvement with depht sensor and high resolution is the main thing that i care about, i read you can read a book through the new camera
@@DiscoVRTetiana I'm just reading about a report from Korea that says Meta could be working with LG for the release of a cheaper Quest new model in 2024 and the price could be around the same as the Quest 2 right now. The Quest 3 pre-orders sales weren't that good as they expected so there could be a brand new product on the list and with a new Quest can also come some price reduction for Quest 3 as well.

The juice just is not worth the squeeze. Too pricey. Gotta spend at least another 75-150.00+ just to make it comfortable and usable for longer than 1.5 hours.
And Meta has shown time and time again to pull some stupid when it comes to their devices and content. Echo vr, Quest 1 being replaced in 1year by Q2. Q2’s 64g model being quickly ousted. Breaking the no FB promise in writing.
Its just So much wiser to wait for Quest 4 while will also give time for more competitors like Valve Deckard and for Meta to show their hand with how they handle Q3. And time for a needed price drop.
If they made q2 controllers compatible with q3, and they didnt change the strap adapter, they could then sell a headset Only version for much cheaper. But meta wanted to make sure they could milk the consumers with needed aftermarket overpriced replacement parts and batteries. A need they intentionally or ignorantly created themselves
Tldr. Hell no
I hardly think we are going to see pico devices with xr2 gen2 since qualcomm has a exclusive partnership with Meta for all 2023 and 2024. This means only meta can fit an xr2 gen2 on a device until end of 2024.
I have an IPD of 70 and the Quest 2 had only up to 68, this will be the first chance I get for an immersive experience in vr
Stupid question but how do you find out your ipd? Tried googling it but couldn't really find out any good ways to find out apart from going to my opticians to ask then xD

To measure your Interpupillary Distance (IPD), follow these steps:
1. Stand in front of a mirror in a well-lit room.
2. Hold a ruler or IPD measurement tool horizontally in front of your face.
3. Close your right eye and align the ruler's zero mark with the center of your left pupil.
4. While keeping your left eye open, close your left eye and open your right eye.
5. Note the measurement where the center of your right pupil lines up with the ruler.
6. This measurement is your IPD in millimeters.

Psvr 2 is wired and locked into a sony only, game only top heavy eco system, and multiplayer locked behind ps+

I'm no fan of Meta (at all) but I wish Sony would put even a fraction of the energy into PSVR2 as there seems to be around this :(
It just feels like they're limping along already with no real fight in them. I honestly feel pretty burned by it (and I was a big fan of PSVR1)...
The Sidequest thing sways me even more...I want to play original Doom and Quake in VR, things like that that will never speak appear on PSVR :(

I may be a new viewer to your channel but I do enjoy your videos! I've honestly been down on my luck in recent years, and I continue to struggle to make ends meet. I live with my mother, who is disabled, and it makes doing things that I'd like to do more difficult. #IwantQuest3 because it would enable my mother and I to experience a world we have never seen before, and I believe that it would make life easier for the both of us through these tough times because of the experiences we'll share with something we have never used.

The reason I think I deserve to win the quest three give away is simple I’m an average joe in America that’s never done the give always before so by getting the quest three would make me more willing to try the give always more cuz with bad luck with them in the past I think now is the perfect time to try and convince why I deserve it it’s rather simple the quest two is dying out and so I really wanna dig into next gen vr experience as I feel the quest 3 is a perfect vr headset for me as it’s balenced and not finicky to put on

Most likely, as it will run on Android 12, which is the same firmware the Quest 2/Pro runs on currently.
