It makes less sense though why Batman would brand criminals in the first place. Batman is well known for killing in this movie, so why would Lex need to even intervene?

Batman does kill directly in here. Zack Snyder already cleared this up.That batmobile chase scene, he literally shredded that turret guy with his own machine gun. Yeah, he shoots people alright. Crushed a bunch of guys in cars with his own batmobile. Was going to kill Superman with a spear.

It definitely doesn't look accidental. Batman's machine gun was aimed straight at the thugs and killed them as intended. Even the NRA wouldn't say that's the gun's fault. As the old man said in the extended scene, there's a new mean in him. It should be fully taken that at the very least, Batman has a disregard for life, at least for criminals.

I LOVED the idea of the Bat brand....gives Batman a darker, brutal tone and it makes sense seeing how anyone involved in vigilante actions for years is going to inch toward that edge ever closer. The Punisher (my favorite character) is the end result of any vigilante, he just accepted it right off the bat.
I read somewhere that originally he started the Branding after Robin *I'm still pissed Zack Snyder made Dick Grayson the Robin that died* was killed by Harley and Joker.
He did it so criminals would get murdered in prison that's 2nd degree murder something Batman is against. This just makes the movie worse.

But a lot of people thought BvS was boring even without the 30 extra minutes of footage. It makes sense to me why they wanted to trim it down. It's just a shame they cut out so many crucial things

Fucking stupid...it's stupid. This batman has shown he's willing to go down that dark path that batman says he'll never go down in under the red hood (comic and movie) because he'll never come back. So there's NO reason for Joker to be alive, post killing Jason since this is a Batman that is willing and did cross that line, so him backing off on killing Luthor is infuriating. .

You know: Zack's BvS makes so much more sense than the stuff we got in Justice league.
Scenes like this: they make the movie make sense.
It's obvious that really Lex was just framing Superman and Batman for atrocities to put them up against each other, and he adjusted his plans accordingly until he just got sick of unsuccessfully playing Iago when superman showed Bruce mercy and decided "To hell with subtlety! let's go with old-fashioned, hold-a-loved-one-hostage, villainy." and got Clark and Bruce to fight each other.
Honestly I think Lex did a better job at the whole "Putting-the-powerhouses-up-against-each-other." villainy thing, than Zemo did in Civil war, because Lex left nothing to chance, he had a plan B and a Plan C.
This is why extended versions of films are really good: because there's scenes which add stuff like drama, but also allow the director to explain to the viewer stuff that would otherwise not be understood. WB may have thought to themselves "Oh it's too long." or "Oh it's unnecessary.", but really I don't mind.

Anyone else catch the "Who watches the watchmen?" line, in the first article Clark reads? as the camera pans down you can see it. It's very quick within the first 5 seconds of the video. I assume it also confirms that Harvey Dent is a character in this universe as it says Harvey gave that statement, and as it also says the Police seem to be "complicit" in the brandings I doubt it was Harvey Bullock stating this.
Regardless of how much better the extended cut was, Jesse Eisenberg was still a shit choice for Lex Luther.
