Batman fans worried about Ben Affleck’s size

- When Ben Affleck was cast as Batman, many fans were worried he just didn't have the physicality needed for the role, especially compared to Christian Bale, and Henry Cavill who would co-star with him as Superman.
Zack Snyder's vision for this Batman was that he was older, and more experienced, darker, and more of a brawler at this stage in his life. He needed to have more of a larger intimidating frame rather than a more slender athletic look.
Ben trained for a year with well known celebrity trainer Magnus Lygdback, and when combined with the new bat suit, looks superb as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the new movies.

Exactly! People compare him to others and say he's out of character. They don't want to look at context. He's been in Gotham for 20yrs, and after endless defeat and loss, has lost his clear sense of morality. He's in denial that he's changed, he's in denial that he's killing people. He needs Superman for him to see what he's become and redeem himself.

@@Terrifying which comic are we talking about here? There's a lot of versions and Zack's Batman is one of them. How about read some more comic books than going to mainstream sources/websites/movies to go out of your basic knowledge. Maybe your only source is the Nolan trilogy (which is goat to this day. I have no hate on it). Another good example is Matt Reeves' The Batman, which I'll take it as what young DCEU Batman would've been in his early years.

@@bluetaigax1747 Affleck was based off The Dark Knight Returns but I still don’t feel like he was accurate in that respect. That Batman may have been older, but he didn’t lose his morality or kill, and he used guns, but he hated doing it.

Clearly a good amount of the people who didn’t like Ben’s physique have never read The Dark Knight Returns, which was what Snyder were going for.
I think he nailed it. I had my doubts at first, but I respect everything he put into the role.

He is big compared to what the screen shows him as. He's always been next to some fairly tall actors, and when he wasn't, it's very clear he's a big man.

I knew he was gonna nail it after watching The Town.
I also had low expectations but he did pretty decent. People can hate him all they want but he put in work.
I remember when he was announced. Everyone was doubting him but I knew his capabilities as an actor and quite frankly, he looked like Bruce Wayne from the comics. People just get pissy whenever Batman is cast.
I can’t say he surprised me, as I believed him to be the perfect casting from the very beginning.
That being said, I appreciate open-minded people, who give things a chance like that, such as yourself. Don’t see a lot of that these days, & it’s worthy commendation. Well done. I throw props, in your direction.

Batfleck is my favourite version of Batman, the his look is SO imposing even without the Batmech suit, his regular suit looks amazing and I’m so glad Affleck got to show off all his hard work in the workout scene 👏👏👏

Exactly. When I heard BA was going to be Batman I said he's perfect. He's tall he's got the build and he can act. He could be Bruce Wayne and the Bat and he pulled it off as well as anyone else has. He made an awesome aging Batman.

Honestly coming from someone who has worked out almost there entire life. It is a very tough and brutal life style man. Eating like that to be able to burn it off It truly takes dedication time and above all else the drive! And the want to be that big has to be more powerful than anything else. Trust me I use to work out for 5 hours just straight going in.. Monday through Friday with cardio and leg days heavy on the weekends. I was big.. I felt incredible. But man does it take a toll after a while.
He looked like Batman from The Dark Knight Returns graphic novels. He looked great!
I was one of the doubters when I first saw the announcement, but man after seeing him in action he literally became my favorite version of Batman on film ever. I honestly believe if he got the chance to do his solo film proper, majority of people would see him as the definitive Batman. There's just no way a film with him and Deathstroke would be bad. Especially after the brutality we saw in BvS. I hope to god we get his film someday before he's too old.

Ben & Matt had a grip on me since Dogma. They’re amazing actors & Bens size was perfect for Batman - as soon as I heard, I was like “he’s going to look great in the bat suit!”

@Noo So much is genetics, and people don’t like to hear that. I was 178 lbs. and 5’11” when I started a weight lifting class my junior year of high school. I didn’t do anything but just lift as heavy as I could and keep lifting, but I also swam a lot and played tennis, and ran for warm ups. I was 212 at the end of my junior year, and I had 11% body fat overall but 8% on my abs and arms, etc.
Part of that is age, but the muscle part is my genetics. My dad held up a car while his friend changed a tire because the woman didn’t have a jack. He was 5’8” but broad and dense with muscle just by doing a lot of physical exercise outside all the time. I do think he was still a Green Beret when he held the car up. It was a VW Bug, but still….
I was 16-17 and it was 1990/1991, and I have never had access to any supplements. I have a lot of big and very strong people in my family. German, Scandinavian, etc. Anyway, a year of lifting heavy and eating great and doing cardio can do that for sole people.
I had a friend in that same weight lifting class who lifted as much as he could, but he just got lean and wiry muscle and super cut (much more than me), but he couldn’t lift half what I could or gain much mass. Those were his genetics. I wanted to be more like him, and he wanted to be like me.
Also, thanks for your service. I was in the r Army, and even running five miles or more every day, lifting often, and doing a lot of patrols in Iraq, I still didn’t drop below 197 lbs. at 5’11”, but looked lean. I just weigh more than other people, usually 20 lbs. more than people the same height who look the same. I would look anorexic at 170 lbs.
The training scene in BatmanVSuperman was all I needed! NAILED IT! All the other Batman/Bruce Wayne actors were puny compared the Affleck. Pattinson looked like the Nightwing version of Batman.
I remembered him from the DareDevil movie but still wasn't so sure about him doing Batman. Fast forward to now and he's my definitive Frank Miller's Dark Knight (which is as definitive as Batman can ever be to me!).

I like the way this Batman looks, what I dislike is the casual killing scene where he pulls the trigger and blows up a car with people inside(scene from Batman v Superman) the rest of the character I can see as a very dark version of Batman which makes sense as this Batman was inspired by the dark knight returns series Batman who was old and brutal but one aspect that remained about that version of the character is the no killing rule, meanwhile it appears from this one scene and the other scene where he shoots the guy with the flamethrower that this Batman doesn’t really care for his one rule anymore. Ben afleck did great with the character he was told to play and I think he’d do great as the Batman but this version of Batman is where I take issue with and that isn’t the actors fault that’s the writers fault. Now I never watched the Snyder cut but I have seen clips and it’s not my favorite incarnation of the justice league, it doesn’t really live up to the standards set by the animated series in my opinion, but maybe my expectations are too high. If Snyder was going for a much darker more semi-realistic version of the dc universe he did that pretty well.

@@milagomez55 I know In the OG it didn’t matter, he had a gun on the bat plane and shot people down, shot at people with handguns, then the comic book people decided Batman can’t use guns. Then the next 60 years of comic books came out exploring the generic character of Batman who has a no kill rule, an “I don’t like guns” rule, and depending on the incarnation of the character may or may not be fine with shattering a thugs collar bone and/or giving traumatic brain injuries. My comment points to the ANIMATED SERIES as a reference for a reason. I grew up watching re runs of it, and I liked that Batman, I liked that flash, I liked that Superman. I thought Wonder Woman smashing things was cool, my tiny child brain enjoyed it. And so I have rose tinted glasses towards it like another million or so people. I did not like snyders version of Batman, he looked cool and awesome and some of the stuff he did was ripped out of comics, two incidents from Batman v Superman were not. Also before someone brings it up aliens have generally been excluded from Batman’s no killing rule at least in animation from what I remember seeing. I’m pretty sure explosions kill. But the Batman my brain automatically compares every Batman I ever see to is from the animated series if i say it doesn’t live up to that, then in my opinion, OPINION, it doesn’t live up to that. “We’ll get off the internet opinions aren’t welcome here” I got that, goodbye, I get that my opinion gets attacked a lot I’m tired of people pointing out the same stuff every time as if I haven’t even bothered watching a video that gives a summary/history of a character when I have and I did fact check via google. If you think they’re lying grab your tinfoil hat.

my childhood hero is batman and even i am old enough to say that still batman is my hero until one day i thought that i wanna be like him then i rush to the roof as quickly as i can and that moment i was so excited and proud to tell, shout & yell everybody on ground that batman is my greatest hero and jump on top of the roof .. then i realized it was too late .. that batman never really knew how to fly though !!!

The best Batman in my opinion, he's perfect for the BVS arc. He also looks the same as the Batman vs Superman in the dark knight returns. Affleck's batman is really a veteran, experienced, near retirement batman which is really badass.
I think even in interviews he's got a bit of a Bruce Wayne thing about him. At least the way i think of Bruce. A sort of fun-loving guy, who whole heartedly jumps into things but is intelligent with it. 😄
I think he did an excellent job! Him, Bale, Keaton and Patterson as the young batman just coming into being The Bat was very VERY good.. Especially since he said he channeled Kurt Cobain that's why Nirvana was played so much in the movie...

Batffleck was amazing, even for the short time that he was around. I've heard what kind of Batman Zack was going for and now I can't stop myself from wanting a "The Dark Knight Returns" type of live action movie with Ben Affleck (if they could make him look even older). You can see many simarities in BvS and TDKR, but a full solo movie by Snyder and Batffleck? A dream that will probably not come true
