Man gets ripped apart by the media for just trying to do the right thing and what does he do? Calls his mother for comfort, and people say this Superman is emotionless.
Superman has feelings just as humans do.
We're lucky Superman is a powerful being that also raised by a humble couple of farmers...
@@rizkyantoni3948 Great point. I look at Brightburn (great horror/sci-fi film) and it looks at how parenting an alien child can go so wrong.
@@rizkyantoni3948 There's nothing more simple, nor more beautiful, than the kindness of others and how inspiring it can be.
People are just jokes, they don’t like this superman because he didn’t ‘smile’ ,pathetic losers
I love the fact that when he saves the girl he is smiling but when he is being worshipped he stops smiling and turns away because Clark doesn’t want to be worshipped because he is just a farmer from Kansas
I think what is also most beautiful about that scene is when he kneels down, as he is surrounded by the crowd. It not only shows that he is willing to (literally) lower himself to save others and make them feel safe, but that he's willing to make himself look humble and vulnerable among the people.
Love the discussion in the comments section. This is exactly what films should be about, having one’s own interpretation and sharing it with the world.
Well spotted!
NOt only that...He smiles seeing the mother so happy who feels elated at her daughter who was just about to die. This is such a heartful moment
That’s because superman as a character is supposed to be more human then anyone and be the light of hope for everyone
Snyder was building something grand in the age of oversaturated action comedies. He was ahead of the times.
@ANTHONY THOMAS Same. I stopped watching MCU content consecutively after Endgame. Started getting hyped after the SnyderCut announcement and binged all his DC movies. Its poetic and heartfelt. Shame people and critics didn't realise that.
@Bonk ai69 dude. Wandavision was atrocious. Loki was good.
@ANTHONY THOMAS It's so sad that many people don't realize this. You can have comedy, just not at the expense of a poignant, profound message that is demonstrated by the actions of our heroes. This movie is truly incredible.
Exactly. Just beauty right here
@Bonk ai69 Ikr? Loki can throw Tony Stark through a window and beat Captain america in Avengers but got his ass beat by every random human in the Loki serie.
"Maybe he's just a guy who's trying to do the right thing". Never a truer word spoken about Superman.

@M.K.M. wtf? i think sincerely that you are in the wrong place pour your evangelism; i'm sorry for my english, i'm from Belgium; And Khal is not without sins, he killed;
If Superman was real this is how people would react to him. Fox and CNN would be talking about him 24/7 discussing like this either as a threat or savior
@Flawrence Isenhart I'm pretty sure if he was real there will be mix feelings about him. Some cultures and religion like the guy says believe in a savior type. Some would feel threatened by his presence. He literally could blow the earth apart, burn the earth with his heat vision, punch through the earth's core. There's many ways Superman could wipe out the planet.

That shot at 2:12 of the woman reaching up to Superman like he’s an angel is one of the best shots I’ve seen In a comic book movie
And the music while the scene plays is fucking unreal

Even the dialogue behind it is fitting. Basically saying how can you prevent an angel from doing his job based on earthly principles?

I think that's why the world needs Superman, and Superman knows it. We live in a time where kindness is deemed a form of weakness, anger and hatred is popular, and thinking that every person is doing something for an ulterior motive. And when we find that one person, the most powerful man in the world, is going out of his way to save people and give them hope, it boggles our minds!!

Trapped in a flood.. crying and watching superman appear.... damn that's a powerful scene
The look of relief and belief in her face. As if she'd heard and read about him for ever so long, and now in the midst of all her plight, as her home floods, her family in grave danger, at the end of her will, appears superman, just trying to do the right thing and suddenly the myth she's been hearing about is in front of her. She looks so relieved and incredibly amazed. 😢 I cry at this scene
Not gonna lie....for me... This part of the movie is one of the most realistic scene of any superhero movie....it literally Shows what is people's real reaction seeing something beyond of us and our first thought...and it's something this powerful should act in our orders.....its an awesome scene
People are treating him as god, even though he was just saving everyone
Agree because one of reasons why is people need to ask the do the world needs superheroes?
@Justine Anddrei Logan Him going around saving everyone is precisely why people perceive him that way.
Another proof that it should have been Man of steel 2, not BVS. There are just so many unnecessary things and ideas in this movie. Wasted potential.
I love how Clark is so lost after watching these experts giving their opinion to the "Superman dilemma" but the first thing he does is call his mother. At the end of the day, he's just like us.
This montage shows that Jonathan Kent was right when he said: "When the world finds out what you can do, it's going to change everything. Our beliefs, our notions of what it means to be human...everything." Zack, you wonderful man, you.
Joshua Galloway yeah I know right, man of steel and BVS were so layered and deep. I hope one day to make films just as deep and amazing. I released a motivational fantasy film onto my channel recently, I would love to know what you think of it :) it’s called The Kings World:Battle of the Soul
@PADRINO TDFW2 Damn right he was, Jonathan Kent may have been a simple farmer from Kansas but damn did he knew things. He was right about his son in every way, excellent foreshadowing. ✌️O.o
This is precisely why I think he can become evil in the future justice leagues. It’s not just about Lois but the fact that at this point, Jonathan’s death was in vain as humans still don’t trust Clark. That’s enough to make anybody question their morals
@Yagami Eren Well, that and Alan Moore, the man who wrote the Watchmen, is a despicable asshole pessimist.
This is actually my favorite scene in the entire movie. It really highlights that the problem isn't Superman. The world has gotten so cynical and paranoid that Superman literally cannot function the way he usually would. This entire montage has Superman accomplishing feats that you find in the comics and even in the classic Christopher Reeve movies. He's tugging a trapped ship, saving an exploding space-craft, pulling people from fires, and saving people from a flood. But rather than the people being happy and in awe of his arrival, signaled by triumphant music, everyone is second-guessing everything he does. They're lofting all these ulterior motives his way and projecting all this crap making the whole thing feel like a chore and makes Superman wonder why he bothered.
People kept complaining, "Oh, why doesn't Superman smile more?" To which I say, What the hell do the people of Earth give him to smile about?
Love this comment.
damn. what a great post.
Very well put bro!!
But isn’t it highlighting that you can never please (all) people - however he’s clearly being treated like a god by lots of people (even in the scene), they are calling out to him for help. Clark is watching the news debating his purpose, fine, but Clark is also a journalist who knows how the media works, surely he’d expect this reaction to some degree??? Clark then pursues batman accusing him of ‘taking justice into his own hands’ and ‘trampling on civic liberties’, little hypocritical no? Ironically, he’s projecting his own fears onto batman....Bruce pushes back and says the daily planet glorifies him everytime he does the most simple of good deeds, so it works both ways. Don’t forget - in this film universe, a small group of Clark’s race destroyed an entire city and tried to reform earth into Krypton. Of course people would be worried....they would be scared he’d do the same at some point (ever seen injustice?)
Well said.
How Warner Bros and DC can no longer want him as a Superman after a scene like this. You really have to be crazy or blind.
After the positive reception that Zack Snyder's Justice League has aswell. I'll never forget the 1.5 million tweets of #RestoreTheSnyderVerse
Jamesgunn is dumb
It’s not that they’re crazy or blind; it’s just that the rest of the dceu is a complete mess. Fair enough you’ve got Cavill as the consistently good part, but what are they going to do? Recast everybody else and reboot all the stories apart from his?
He was excellent, sure, but from a financial and world building perspective it’s their only route forward.
And before anybody says ‘they only ever think about the money’, yeah, shocker, they’re not a charity. They don’t have to make anything.
Really it’s crazy or blind to assume they keep moving forward with the choppy state the dceu is in. Utter delusion for anybody to think anything other than a fresh start is the way forward.
Thats Why the DCU does not work, they just ignore what we want or ask for

Only after the people started treating him as a god.
He felt sad. He is just trying to do the right thing.

@@gabrielrodriguez2355 you have finally reached zack snyder's intentional mind ... Bravo 👍
Oh god you're so right

Heck if i was superman i'd feel the same way...
I think that scene is a metaphor for the battle of Metropolis. He managed to save the girl but he looks back at the burning factory and thinks of all the people he couldn't save. They treat him like a god but he doesn't think he's worthy cause he's just a guy who does his best to do the right thing. He's not perfect, he's not all powerful. In the end Zack Snyder's representation of the JL as gods is not an actual statement on the characters behind the mask, but on their responsibility towards the world. They can't control what people think of them, they just have to say true to themselves for a better tomorrow.
Of course he saved a Mexican child ..that’s what we do in central and South America. Unless there’s an explanation or America (USA) had something to do with it , then yes we will consider you a god right before our eyes

+Johnny ACL I have to disagree there. I've been a huge superman fan my whole life. This isn't the Boy Scout superman. In my opinion, I think this is how a superman would be perceived if he really existed. People would probably not like him and some people would. He's been superman for about a year and a half and he's saved the world twice lol. So I think he's still just trying to find his place as this god-like savior. That's a lot of pressure to put on one's shoulders.

Man Of Steel and this movie proves that humanity wasn't ready for a great Superman movies, let alone real Superman. I got goosebumps and tearing up watching them now. Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill did a great job and Hans Zimmer just makes the whole picture beautiful.
The point of Superman is that he is the most human, he encaptures what he can be, not in power but in spirit. He doesn't want to be seen as a god or an alien, he wants to be seen as someone doing the right thing because that is who he is.

One of a great scene. Superman, a hero with a God-like power, who can do anything, and decide to do the right thing, now is questioning himself and even asking his mom (a mortal) for advice.
Being a hero sometimes isn't being superior.
Only if people could understand it
Deserves. More. Likes.
Love the contrast in this scene. While the media and politicians go on and on and on saying that Superman can’t be trusted. The people say otherwise.
I also liked how Clark frowned when the people placed their hands on him like if he was a gracious god entity to them. He’s only doing what feels right and helping those who need to be helped. Simple love like that shouldn’t be rare.
Absolutely loved this angle. Made you think “what if?” It’s real in a way. Such a great movie
Of course the politicians wouldn’t want people having any form of faith in superman…he holds to ideals beyond theirs, and is therefore perceived as a threat by them…
More heroes less politicians please

@@tylerleach8796 maybe you are an idiot for not realising why he didn't want him to save him -_-
@@tauhid9983 oh I realize why. It’s because John Kent in that movie is an idiot who decided to tell his son to stay back even though he is younger, stronger, and FASTER than John even without the powers. They could have easily come up with a cover story if they had to.
@@tylerleach8796 first of all we don’t know Clark Kent developed super speed at that point of the movie. Second even if he did…u don’t think people will not notice him run into the storm and bring him to safety and then question how that happened. “Humanity always feared of that which is different.”
- Magneto
But here's the difference between Superman and Magneto. Superman never gave up on people, he wanted to be a symbol of hope to humanity because he knew that they need one. Magneto was molded and hardened by human fear and hatred, and now that human hatred is very much a part of his mission because he gave in.
This movie isn't about Superman... its a reflection on how awful and evil we have become as a culture and civilization... mean spirited, cynical, spiteful, miss use of power at the highest levels, incredible inability to show gratitude. He sacrifices the survival of his own people to assure human survival and we treat him like a threat? how sick are we?
What we do in our imaginations, in our entertainment, is what we are. Look at the almost giddy enthusiasms of the 1980s versions of Superman and then, this movie and ask "Why are our imaginations so dark and foreboding?" "When did we lose all our hope?"
The only people that truly appreciate him at all are those in real need.
Spot on. I've said for years this film, like Henry Cavill himself stated back in 2016, "is about the world in which Superman exists." And it's gotten so far detached from the lessons of Superman's story. We treat Superman like a logo on a coffee mug - just an icon. He's a Halloween costume or a "cute, retro" piece of Americana. He's not a part of our lives anymore. This movie is trying to wake us up to that. Personally, I would've called the movie "The Death of Superman" to really make that point, especially for all the morons out there whom the movie was about.
This Scene has a new meaning after The Boys and Invincible Series .

DCEU is more of a realistic scenario of having superheroes on Earth. In marvel movies, apparently no civilian ever dies which is far from a real possibility (except infinity war).
Hats off , solute to zack synder. The way he showed superman at 2:13 is marvelous. Zack synder is a real artist. He showed superman as a god who has a very kind heart.
I never really cared or liked Superman but I got his appeal after hearing "Maybe he is just a guy trying to do the right thing"
People keep saying Superman is treating his work like chores and isn't enjoying being a hero. Last I checked, saving lives isn't a glamour job. It's serious business. And he's not doing this to be a hero because he doesn't care for being a hero. He just wants to help others. He's far too humble and honest to get a big head and an ego just because he's got supporters and a giant statue...
The "heroes" with the egos are those in the Marvel Universe, especially Tony Stark/Iron Man.
thing is, he's smiling when he hands the women her child. But the way he's treated, not like a human and is seen as an outcast. you can see his smile fade. but by him sacrificing himself, he regained everyones hope and showed he has more humanity then they thought.

I thought BvS was pretty good for the first 20 or so mins precisely because of this reason.
Batman feeling helplessness in front of omnipotent power, and the masses viewing Superman as a higher being were both really interesting points to explore.
However, it's not the 'theme' (even Star Wars TLJ had an amazing 'theme' on paper), but the execution(story, pacing, dialogue, etc.) that really matters.
BvS was mediocre in that regard. Justice League didn't have a proper theme and was terrible all around imo.
Give me fun every time.
"And when the Savior character comes actually comes to Earth we want to make him abide by our rules" Just brilliant three and half minutes of movie
This scene shows so much more realism than most superhero movies. It's obvious that a being as strong as Superhuman would definitely be subject of hard politics and worship in a world like ours. Something that never made sense to me that it didn't exist in many other superhero movies

This scene describes why dc feels more real. Like there actually existed a Superman in the world. Discussing his responsibility and how his actions can cause political contradictions. Justice league was a failed movie trying to walk in marvels shadow. Man of steel and Batman vs Superman where actually great. DC has always been a bit more real and dark... keep it that way! This has to be one of my favorite scenes of the entire film. From 0:08-0:13 you can see a visible smile on Clark's face because he is extremely happy to help but when he puts the girl down and the people start reaching out to him as if he's a God figure then he begins to look sad as he stares into the burning building. This shows that all Clark wants to do is help but doing so comes with so much extra baggage that he would rather not have. The very next scene shows all of that baggage where people question his intentions and his integrity and people looking to him as if he's some sort of God when in reality he's just a regular guy trying to do the right thing because he has the power to do so. But the fact that Clark still goes out of his way to help people despite whatever people say about him gives even more credence to his character. Absolutely brilliant.
totally👏👏👏
EXACTLY! Just wish we saw more of that.. And then the call of uncertainty with his mom is great and shouldn't have been cut! Clark got 100% tossed aside in the theatrical cut.. Unacceptable
Finally, I've been saying that about this scene ever since the release of the movie. He wants to help but he doesn't want to be anyone's God
Yeah, it's kinda' disheartening to see so many people miss so many great nuances that are in this movie. It's just the way Zack Snyder tells the stories in his movies: he never spoon-feeds his audience any exposition but instead has them think and digest the things that are in the scenes for themselves; it's not compatible with mainstream audiences today because all they want to do is be spoon-fed information and watch the story at face-value. People don't watch movies and think anymore, they just watch.
+Jon Reyes And ironically, this movie and Watchmen are the closest we will ever get to see graphic novels about superheroes. I believe that scenes like this one are meant to be interpreted as if they had speech bubbles showing the main character thoughts
This is the ultimate meaning behind the Snyderverse and specifically his Superman. People don’t like it because it’s realistic, it asks complicated ethical questions. It has something meaningful to say and it reflects today’s world. Superman has always been a social commentary of some kind. We can’t expect the 80s Superman to look like the 2010s Superman. This movie is brilliant. This scene alone destroys a lot of comic book movie, and I basically love all comic book movies. This movie just brings something new to the table, and people weren't ready for it. All because they are used to the same old formula that is repetitive. People hate what they don't understand.
It's not so much that people weren't ready; it's more that you have to construct a character before you can deconstruct it. Or, perhaps, this should have been Superman's struggle in the first film, where much of the drama could have centred on the consequences of his mere existence. In any case, Superman never really becomes Superman in these films (and then he dies- -still mopey and full of doubts). On top of that, in both this film and MoS, Superman punches his way into a neat conclusion. Again, I really don't think the problem is sophisticated storytelling - it's more that Snyder doesn't know how to handle such things well.
+vivthefree are you kidding me?

God damn I love Henry Cavill’s Superman.
It's kind of sad really. People see a man who just wants to do the right thing, and then they feel a desire to force him into a box just because of the power he has. When people first see Superman, they see a man with immense power and strength, a god almost. But the point of Superman is that, with all the power and all that strength, he's still very human. He gets confused, he feels sadness, and joy, and pain, and love. He feels doubts like any other person. But he always wants to do the right thing. He always made sure that he was kind, compassionate, and humble.
Superman is a hero that gives people hope, just because he has great power doesn't mean he takes away the human need to feel special. Ever since I was a kid, I always felt special because of Superman. I felt that, even though I have no power like him, I didn't have his strength or his sight, I could still be good. And I believe Superman gives other people those feelings as well.
That was beautiful
So true! He is an inspiration for so many in the world. I too grew up watching Superman. So much so that I embody a part of him. There have been instances when Superman lost his power. He still always tried to do the right thing. That’s who he is and that’s what he does.
In my opinion, Zack Snyder understand superman perfeithe same way John Byrne and Mark Waid Understand superman.

Another super moving scene here. Here is Superman just doing what he can, saving a kid from a burning/demolished building. He is smiling and happy as he brings the girl to her family. But then he is instantly worshiped as like a god by all those around. You can see in his face that he does not like or want this. Then the scene of the flood, the people and lady looking up to him like their savior.
And it at the same time has the press talking about if he is a mosiah, how his actions are crossing borders, ect. I mean he is getting in trouble for saving astronauts cause he does it without concern for what country he is in.

The people who criticised this scene for looking "awkward" and out of place n a movie because of how some shots looked are mindless idiots who don't understand what beautiful imagery means. You don't specifically _have_ to see Superman saving the family from the roof top to be able to get the picture. It should be fairly easy to understand that he is going to save them and obviously not let them drown. People are just assholes and want an excuse to pick on something. This was one of my favourite sequences from any movie, ever.
***** Right, but thats not really why this scene gets criticised. It gets criticised because apparently the slow motion frames look silly. Like, "Hurr durr this is a film not a comic book, hurr durr". Its still masterful imagery, regardless. And to address your comment, sure he doesn't interact with much people, but i'm pretty sure that was deliberate because that wasn't the focus. Regardless, he still does demonstrate elements of his human side when he is physically _smiling_ while saving someone, or the fact that he is a mama's boy as shown in the end of this clip.
We've seen Superman's boy scout personality so many times, i'm sure its not that huge of a deal if they don't thrust it in your face every so often, in this movie. I definitely get what you're saying, and maybe MoS could have benefited from that, but i think this movie had the perfect tone for the story it was trying to tell, especially in this edition.
+spideyfan2002 He looks uncomfortable because people reach out to him as if he was a God, when he's not, duh. Did that went over your head?
You have to remember that this Superman isn't used to being open and connecting to Humanity. Growing up in MOS, he was isolated and ostracized; having little to no friends and therefore, wasn't used to speaking up and being open. That continues in this film. And he only said he didn't care because he has no regrets about saving his girlfriend. He wasn't there as a hero. He was there as a man with someone he cares for. Also, the public distrust didn't truly start weighing on him until the African incident, as for 18 months, they didn't have an issue with anything he was doing. And you keep saying CB Superman like there's only one version of him. It's clear you have a preference, but don't state it as the one true version. Others may find it insulting...
***** You also see the public's reaction to him when he lands in the capitol, protesting and shouting at him to get off their planet. And you see by the expression on his face, that his obviously affected by it.
As somebody else mentioned, that "i don't care" line is not to be taken too literally. The meaning behind it is that he doesn't care what the public has to say about his involvement in Africa, he'll always save the people he cares about. Its obviously not meant to mean "fuck the public, i hope they die".
This Superman wants to be trusted as well. Again, you can see how public opinion affects him because of how distressed and frustrated he looks when the media and politicians are debating about him. It follows the basic principle of "show, don't tell".
Maybe, maybe not. Some people would rather their actions define them rather than speak about it to public officials. Besides, Finch didn't really need much convincing that Superman wasn't the bad guy, she had her doubts about Lex even before the hearing, and if you want Supes to clarify his actions, well, thats what the hearing was for.
You can clearly see the smile on his face after he drops the girl to safety, and only turns into an uncomfortable expression when the people start touching him. The movie is not defined by pure symbolism, just the more subtle things that aren't going to be spoon-fed to the audience. Thats when you have to rely on your imagination. In the real world, no one is going to sob and speak their heart out to you all of the time, most of the time, its in their face expressions.
spideyfan2002 He does care what people think of him. If he didn't he wouldn't be watching the news interview discussions about him.
