Just the way Affleck stares at the batsuit in this scene. Like an alcoholic staring at a bottle, or a junkie at a needle. As much as I enjoy Bale's Batman, I never felt that he "needed' the suit (despite it coming up multiple times throughout the trilogy). This one scene conveys just how tortured Affleck's Bruce Wayne is when he isn't wearing the suit. Ending the scene with Robin's suit is just the cherry on top.

I agree ben affleck portrayed batman in a way no other actor has been able to do. No disrespect to the others besides clooney and kilmers wasnt bad but it dosent make the list. But this portrayal was what people have wanted to see from Thee most popular comic book charachter ever (slightly more popular than superman of course but still more popular). I respect everyones opinion but this is a classic movie and people can insult me all they want but i haven't watched a nolan batman in yrs since this came out. And lets not forget hans zimmer and junkie xl made an exceptionally good score for this film. Last but not least there wasnt one good fight scene from batman before this came out.....not 1. Good movies shitty fight choreography or mediocre at best. I mean cmon he was trained by a secret society of ninja psychopaths and it takes the guy that was in gigli and the director of sucker punch to show people how to film a batman fight???

It really breaks my heart that people disrespect Affleck’s Batman they way they do. His Depiction of Bruce Wayne & Batman is the most comics accurate we’ve ever had. His Bruce is literally tortured and in agony. He NAILS it completely. The carefree billionaire playboy act while behind the scenes he’s absolutely suffering, it’s written all over his face and it’s sooo good. The way he looks at the suit, his banter with Alfred.. it’s just perfect casting. Stellar Job. Definitely one of my favorite portrayals ever

That shot, in the very first teaser, was what actually made me rethink my initial hesitation about Batfleck. With that one look he just nails it, looking at that batsuit with pure rage. Like a junkie staring at a needle or an alcoholic at a bottle, Bruce hates that suit, he's cursed by it, but it's his whole life and he's nothing without it. He will never have a normal life. In a sense, Bruce Wayne died in that alleyway with his parents. He descended into an abyss where the bat was waiting for him (just as we see in the beginning of the film) and even by being Batman and fighting evil for 20 years, he will never get out - he even says "in the dream they took me to the light - a beautiful lie."

This movie was built with many amazing scenes... but what people judged as bad was the movie itself, not the scenes, not the part... but the story and how it all went together.
It was the right movie, the right director, but things just went bad. Too be fair, the extended edition did improve a lot. And to go further, removing the badly done Death of Superman (something I think should have been used to get Cavil out and maybe even end the DCEU).
In the end, it was just a bad movie. Each of the scenes though, show the love and effort Zack had for this project. Each scene is more beautiful than any other super hero movie...
Show them the scenes and I doubt anyone would doubt this was a great movie... show them the movie and people would wish they stuck to the scenes.
If this movie was a dish, then all the parts were cooked properly before put together. The ingredients and everything was near perfect. But when put together, it's ruined.

And i don't think someone will come close to the physique Affleck has had, it's clear that the new version with Pattinson will take a different direction, and that's okay, every director must give his personal view of a character and every version MUST BE DIFFERENT.
That said, i am really excited to see Batfleck again, even tho its such a shame that we never get to explore his "Bat-Verse", cuz there were a lot of things to see: villains, gotham, bat-family, catwoman etc.etc.
And to all the idiots who criticise Robert Pattinson, just stop, i'm serious, choose another actor, in all those years (AFTER Twilight), he has worked with great directors and has done incredible indipendent films (even some real masterpieces) giving incredible performances, he's a great actor and i personally liked him as a "Batman Year 2" who is not so physically big (cuz he is at the beginning, of course), so i think he and the movie will be awesome!!!

what I find interesting is that Man of Steel cinematographer Amir Mokhri has worked on most of the Transformers movies over the years, along with some major blockbusters. Larry Fong from BvS of course is Zack Snyder's long time collaborator, he's worked on 300, Watchmen among others. Fabian Wagner from Justice League has worked in Game of Thrones if I'm not mistaken. if there's one cinematographer I'd love to see on a Batman movie, it would be Newton Thomas-Sigel. his work on Superman Returns (as with most movies he shoots) just looks fantastic, top notch, almost like his frames are bathed in gold. I'd imagine a Kingdom Come movie with him as the cinematographer (and Snyder at the helm).

There is a very subtle and underlying theme in this scene that hasn't been talked of. It's clear that Alfred monitors Bruce's use of the BatSuit, almost like holding the keys to it. Bruce seems to make an argument about needing the suit, sounding almost like a request. Perhaps Alfred has decided that he needs to make sure his aging protegé doesn't overuse the alter ego, for his own protection...

Or maybe Alfred was making adjustments to the suit and Bruce was simply telling he that he needed it to be ready. It's clear Alfred in this movie was his mechanic/engineer and used to maintain all his gear. There's a scene in the beginning where Alfred was explaining something about how a new layer of armor was hindering the performance of the suit's microphone.

I love how this scene portrays an aging Bruce Wayne dealing with the repercussions of being The Batman. You can tell from the dream of Bruce walking towards his parent’s graves and the vision of a massive grotesque bat creature that he has allowed what was originally supposed to be a crusade to honor his parents and what they stood for to become a descent into darkness. And he has become the monster that he always swore to stand against. Which is what makes the Martha scene so important, because Bruce has allowed the darkness to consume him, he has allowed his crusade and his vendetta to become his only existing ideology that nothing can stop him. Which is why when he hears Superman crying out for Bruce to save his mother, he realizes that he has not only allowed his rage and anger almost break him, he realized he was going to let an innocent life die, and he didn’t do anything to stop it. He had lost his reason for being Batman and was about to become a killer. And I think when Bruce rampaged through the warehouse, every punch, every kick was an extension of his refined purpose of standing tall in front of criminals and reminding them who and what he is.

@Medidas Yeah true, I agree. I think the Ultimate Edition filled in some of the holes and showed that Bruce was suffering from PTSD from his Parents' and Robin's deaths. Such as the nightmare scene with the bat and him taking pills to numb the pain. But yeah it is still hard to connect it with his cruel behavior unless you watch it multiple times which not everyone has the patience for. I think this movie had too much going on so some of the side plots could've been cut out.

But I can say confidently that THIS interpretation of Bruce Wayne/Batman and Alfred are easily the best live action versions thus far.
Again, to be clear, im not talking about the movie and the quality of it. Im talking about this portrayal of Batman which to me is absolutely perfect. The mannerisms, the nuances of Afflecks version is just... 👍🏼.

Bales portrayal was very angry as well, they just hid it more after Batman Begins. I guess realistically, being a vigilante would put you through different stages of emotions over the years. You'd start off super pissed, eventually calm down and learn to channel that rage more productively, and then with a long time of fighting crime under your belt, you'd become like this Bruce Wayne; Bitter and dissapointed with the results. Either way, I love both Bale and Affleck. I doubt anyone will top them.

I liked Christian Bale as Batman, but when it comes to showing the side of Batman/Bruce Wayne that was haunted and driven, he couldn't pull it off as well as Affleck did. Even Michael Keaton had his moments where he did a great job showing the dark and brooding character that was driven by his past, but Affleck had that look of obsession that made you feel it, like he had no choice.

Mixing prescriptions and alcohol can be lethal. It's as if Bruce wants to die already but can't since his body is a self made defense mechanism. His body has a lot of antibodies to fight against a lot of toxins. It's like that scene from the first Captain America movie. Where Steve tries his best to get drunk but can't because his post SS body won't let him.

Besides we already saw Lois in a bath scene coping with her trauma and showcasing her relationship with Kal, try to see what Bruce Wayne's shower tells you about him and his mental state as he prepares for a social outing in the same way he prepares for a mission, how dark and boxed in the chamber is.

There is one thing I like best in Zack Snyder's films and it is not the beautiful cinematography. It is the non-verbal scenes. When the characters almost say nothing but they tell you everythings. Like this scene when Bruce stares at a bat suit. We can see the pain, anger, obsession in him. Then we see robin's suit with the words written by the Joker as a answer to Bruce's anger and pain. It's a answer to why he is so obsession with fighting crime and why he need to be Batman. We see the Wayne mansion being destroyed as a symbol of how damage Bruce wayne are.
Just one short scene and we get to know alot about this characters.
They said that Zack Snyder don't know how to tell a story, i think diffrent. I think he just have a diffrent way to tell a story and not many people appreciate it.

HA! grafftiti courtesy of The Joker with Bruce looking up at it gives me pure chills as it looks and feels like it was pulled straight from the pages of the comic books.
That one shot of the costume tells you that something really bad happened to Robin in the past but it also served as a brutal reminder as to why Bruce continues to wage war against evil as Batman.

The fact that Zack is portraying the history and bond they have without the characters going off on a monologue....Like just look at Bruce giving Alfred a cup of coffee and..almost asking permission to use the suit? And the fact that they talk about Bruce and The Bat as being two separate entities. Wow. This movie(Ultimate Cut of course) wasn't ahead of it's time. But it did require a couple of rewatches to fully understand the depth the characters and the story have.
