IF the cure rate for thyroid cancer is 99.9% in most cases why does follow up have to continue for a lifetime?
After five or ten years, as long as nothing adverse occurs, can't it be discontinued?

I'm not a doctor, but I'm about to get my Thyroid completely removed due to cancer, My buddy has had the same thing happen, He has to have life long follow ups to Check for cancer coming back ( that can happen with any cancer to my knowledge ) But they also have to check your Hormone levels, and a bunch of important stuff that your thyroid use to do, with my buddy Everyone is different but for him, he has to constantly get hormones checked, and it constantly needs to be adjusted. And the body ages and changes so do the need for more or less hormones. I hope this helps.

I wish you luck with the surgery.
On November 7th of last year I had the left lobe and isthmus of my thyroid removed due to a huge nodule, but fortunately all was benign.
I had the surgery done at the Clayman Thyroid Center in Tampa, FL by Dr. Gary Clayman.
It was my first surgery in my life but it wasn’t bad at all. General anesthesia is so deep that I felt like I was never out. A nurse put a mask on my face in the operating room and asked me how I felt. Then suddenly I realized that the person asking me how I feel was not the nurse who put the mask on. It was the recovery room nurse and the surgery was over. But it’s like I never was asleep.
