Minimally Invasive Thyroid Surgery - Can I Have It?
A thyroid nodule or thyroid cancer has been diagnosed and you are trying to determine whether a minimally invasive thyroid surgery can be done for you and is this the correct operation. In this video, Dr. Rashmi Roy (one of the world’s most experienced thyroid surgeons) at the Clayman Thyroid Center discusses who may be eligible for a minimally invasive thyroid surgery for either a thyroid nodule or a thyroid cancer.

Просмотров 25 тыс.5 лет назад
Thyroid nodules are very common especially in women. In this video, Dr. Roy discusses the thyroid nodule which has undergone a needle biopsy and is reported to be “suspicious for thyroid cancer”. This does not mean that you have a thyroid cancer. The actual risk of thyroid cancer may vary based upon how this diagnosis was made. If a genetic analysis of your thyroid nodule was used in order to a...
Thyroid Nodule Producing Symptoms While Swallowing for Thyroid Nodule Video
Просмотров 48 тыс.5 лет назад
Thyroid nodules usually produce no symptoms. However, because of a thyroid nodule’s location in the neck and their size, thyroid nodules can produce symptoms effecting swallowing. Some common complaints, if symptoms exist, include a sense of something that needs to be swallowed, feeling like there is “something there”, as well as a sense that some foods may be more difficult to swallow than oth...

Thyroid Goiter: What Is It? Should It Be Removed?
Просмотров 61 тыс.7 лет назад
A goiter is a big thyroid. Most thyroid goiters are big because the thyroid has grown multiple nodules within it. A thyroid goiter is not dangerous, and in fact, in most circumstances it has no symptoms and most people with a goiter don’t know they have one. Goiters can become quite large and cause symptoms of pressure, make you feel uncomfortable in your breathing, and/or uncomfortable in your...

Radioactive Iodine After Thyroid Cancer

Radioactive iodine is a common treatment for thyroid cancer after the thyroid cancer surgery. We take advantage of the fact that the thyroid gland needs iodine to make thyroid hormone. In this video, Dr. Clayman discusses when to consider radioactive iodine in the treatment of thyroid cancer. Most of the common thyroid cancers will take up iodine just like normal thyroid cells. Thyroglobulin is a protein made by thyroid cells and your thyroglobulin level may fluctuate over time. Different laboratories may also have different results for thyroglobulin so comparison of the numbers may not always be reliable. If not all of your thyroid was removed d...

My voice has never been the same since thyroid cancer surgery. It feels like a hand is around my throat pressing it. Whilst I’m fortunate to have a voice it’s somewhat difficult due to the constant pressure. The extraction sight became infected with golden staph and swelled up so much that the incision sight is obvious. I wonder if the swelling had anything to do with the damage to my voice. The surgeon also damaged my parathyroid gland. To anyone considering having this surgery I would suggest they think long and hard. Please research extensively before going forward with the total removal. What they don’t tell you is that if your body doesn’t utilise the synthetic thyroid hormones as it did your naturally produced hormones you may well experience chronic exhaustion for the remainder of your life, massive weight gains and many symptoms that are usually associated with menopause. ❤

A nodule can be small. Why would you take out half the thyroid if the biopsy was benign? Why not just take out the tiny nodule? What happens to weight when half the thyroid is removed? Could this removal of half or all of the thyroid for a nodule make the patient dependent on thyroid medication for the rest of their life? Taking out half or all of the thyroid for a benign nodule sure sounds like doing harm which is against the Hippocratic Oath.

@@Algebrainiac My apologies for being so late to reply. For some reason, I'm only receiving notifications on a laptop I don't typically use. To answer your question, I'm cancer free (knock on wood). The Surgeon removed 27 lymph nodes, 2 of which were cancerous. It took quite a while before I began feeling like I wanted/needed to get out of bed, but I eventually did. I'm stable on 150mg Levothyroxine. A couple of things I did not fully appreciate: The scar is pretty visible (to me). It's fine, I just thought given how nice others looked in comparison. Also, I still have more numbness around the left side. I say left side because I have numbness from the top of my left ear and in different areas from my chin to my collarbone. Again, a small trade off in the great scheme of things, but it is "a thing." Bottom-line: I look at it as a sort of a trade-off. As long as the procedure and everything related to it remains "successful," I'm good with a few minor inconveniences. Thanks for asking.
