    I'm a thyroid cancer patient. I didn't have any thyroid nodules. I noticed a lump below my right ear. I was treated for an ear infection that I didn't have. I was misdiagnosed for more than a year. I had an mri, mra, ct scan and fine needle biopsies. While the scans showed a mass it was believed to be a paraganglioma. My bloodwork was normal. My ENT surgeon at Walter Reed wasn't going to do any surgery until I insisted. I had a radical right side neck dissection and total thyroidectomy. I had medestatic papillary thyroid cancer with a follicular variant. My thyroid gland was covered in microscopic thyroid cancer. I had alot of radioiodine and scans since 2007 and have finally became undetectable. Just going by blood tests, and doing the wait and watch triggers anxiety especially in someone misdiagnosed. Patients live with how they are feeling 24/7. Doctors really need to do a better job listening.

      I was sent for an ultrasound for a lump I was told was a swollen lymph node. While there, the tech asked me if I wanted her to check my thyroid while she was there and I said yes! They found a few calcified and partially calcified thyroid nodules. I was sent for a fine needle biopsy and told it wasn't cancer. They said they will "watch it", and I have to repeat the process in 9 months. I wish I had your guts!! I still can barely turn my head because of all of the lumps! The one I initially went for is below my left ear!

I keep telling my nurse about what I was experiencing and she would check my vitals and it’s all normal. In my soft voice I said pls.ask the doctor to check my troponin..that’s when she act and I had blood work done and noticed that my calcium level went critical..it’s a good thing I advocated for myself. I asked if someone could tell me if it’s cancer but he said they can’t I was only born with the right thyroid the left side is missing. I also have type 2 diabetes so refused surgery without reason. They don’t even keep a check, just told to go back to my doctor if I notice any changes. Great video. Best explanation I've heard so far! I started out with one 2mm thyroid nodule last year and now have 4. All sub cm (about 7mm), hypoechoic and TIRADS 4. One is affecting my parathyroid. Having a biopsy on 14 Aug. While relatively small, they are creating many problems for me. I have dyphagia and get choked when I eat, hypoxia when laying down(esp on my back, the US was torture), my voice is hoarse/raspy, I constantly cough/clear my throat and have a sore throat. I have Hashimotos and all this is causing me to swing back and forth betwen hypo/hyper thyroid. Hoping they will just take the thing out so I can get some relief. Good luck to everyone dealing with this. 🙏

    What most don't understand is that imaging procedures such as CT scans, mammograms, PET scans, etc. have very high amounts of radiation that is downplayed but eventually causes cancer. The radiation induces cancer by disrupting the molecules and electrons in your cells. The radiation is strong enough to cause double-strand damage and thus a gene mutation which eventually leads to cancer 6-7 years after exposure. Then when an allopathic medicine doctors sees you have cancer from an ultrasound or CT scan, they will tell you they need to do a biopsy. Yet, if they puncture the extracellular matrix where the cancer is encaged in, this will actually help the cancer. There are various scholarly articles that show this is the case. Cancer can migrate to areas of inflammation including a biopsy when the cancer can track across the needle. Now here's my favorite part, after they help your cancer spread, a doctor will tell you your choices are either chemo or radiation. Both Chemo and radiation do not distinguish between healthy and cancer cells. It kills all cells. So you're essentially killing all of your cells hoping that you survive and it kills the cancer. This oftentimes causes rebound cancers from the other healthy cells that have been affected if you even survive the treatment and are left with permanent side effects. When they actually give you chemo and radiation, they hope that one of your repair genes, such as BRCA1, BRCA2 and/or PARP activate and repair the damage to the rest of your immune system, yet there are millions of cells in your body and it's unavoidable to have some misrepaired cells, thus causing rebound cancers later on and making you a return customer in the system.

    • @marthawall3318
      @marthawall3318 9 месяцев назад

      Would you not agree that each patient and need for an imaging procedure is unique? The risk of “eventually causing cancer” should be weighed against the benefit of the information provided by the procedure, wouldn’t you agree? If not, please share what methods you suggest for diagnostics if you believe imaging studies should be removed from the physician’s toolbox’ so-to-speak? Also could you share your credentials and/or site your sources please?

    • @lucasjones9419
      @lucasjones9419 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@marthawall3318 Absolutely not. Even 1 CT scan is usually enough to cause cancer, unfortunately. More scans are even worse for you and there is absolutely no reason why you should ever get a CT scan despite any doctor's advice. If it's completely unavoidable you can get an MRI, which uses non-ionizing radiation via strong magnets to produce the image or an ultrasound that uses sound waves, but even then, it's not necessary in most cases and there better be a REALLY good reason for it. Doctors have expensive machines they have to pay for that sit in their facilities. They don't care if it will harm you even though they themselves have to tell you of the danger and probability that it can. Think of it simplistically, if someone were to tell you, there is a single poisonous Cherio in this Cheerios cereal box, are you going to risk it and eat from the cereal box anyway? No, of course not, so why would it be different with the scanner? And especially when the odds of getting cancer from it are much higher than what people claim.
      CT scans are indeed dangerous and they come with some major risks. A CT scan of the abdomen is equivalent to being exposed to 200 chest X-rays or 1,500 dental X-rays. The problem is that it's ionizing radiation, which means it creates damage within the DNA and also causes cancer. A hospital or ER won't tell you this though, they will tell you to go ahead and do the CT Scan because they can't afford the resources for them to give you an MRI instead which is more safe (An MRI uses NON-ionizing radiation from strong magnetic fields that produce the image). I wouldn't be surprised if all of these unnecessary imaging scans, including CT scans, mammograms, etc. contribute to the U.S. having one of the highest percentages of people with cancer. Radiologists and ignorant radiation physicists use an unscientific flawed formula that was never to be used in medicine cunningly named (Effective Dose), and they will tell you the risk is 2 mSv. They have to, don’t they? Otherwise, they will have no business or jobs. People’s life is worth 250 dollars to their practice, that’s what they get from Medicare. That's not to say there aren't good doctors, there are and they save lives but not all. The FDA has stated that 30 to 50% of CT scans are medically unnecessary so if they're saying that, it's probably more like 70 or 80%. And USUALLY, the cancer that you would get from all of the accumulated radiation is delayed and doesn't show up right away. It can show 7-10 years down the road.
      The bottom line is, there's a non-zero chance that it increases the chance of you developing cancer and it might not be immediate but give it 6-7-8 years and it's possible you could have cancer caused by the cell damage or mutation of your genes that the radiation could have caused. I also get that the risk is relative but I don’t think that discredits the risk. The whole “risk vs. benefit” argument makes no sense to me either. I personally would rather have an uncertain diagnosis than to potentially get cancer from a CT scan in the future, but that's just me. Then reading from others who have had CT scans and are fine makes me think of people who smoke cigarettes and don't end up with cancer. Smokers face the same misrepair risks. The majority survive simply because the damage is benign. Unfortunately, some die from passive smoking, especially kids, in both smoking and x-rays. However, the risks from CT are drastically higher than smoking.
      But why would this be explained to a regular person? Then combined with a flawed formula and legal liability, why would a doctor admit that a CT scan's radiation caused damage as opposed to age, lifestyle, or hereditary conditions? I doubt the same doctors studied molecular biology and radiogenesis.
      Lastly, medicine is a practice. It is not a fool-proof 100% accurate science AND medical error is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. The same way doctors claim CT scans and biopsies are safe, doctors used to say that smoking, asbestos, and transfats were good and safe for you. How many years did it take before this was actually proven to be false? Medicine is a business at the end of the day, people don't care about your health and there's no money in keeping you healthy or curing someone. If they really cared, they would spend money on prevention rather than management of a disease.

    My nodule was first seen 22 years ago, biopsies have always been benign. I had breast cancer 5years ago and after mastectomy I felt my nodule when swallowing and went for ultrasound got low suspicion findings. One year later I started coughing and haven’t stopped, my voice changed and most recently I’ve had trouble swallowing food. Newest ultrasound shows high suspicion, nodule has double in size to over 2cm, had fna and results are atypical undetermined. I don’t know what to do, my labs have sat for 6 weeks because they thought insurance didn’t cover it and dropped the ball on the whole situation until I figured it out so now it’s another 2 weeks to get results on thyroseq. I haven’t been able to eat much in months because it gets stuck after two bites, I have felt like something’s wrong for at least 3 years. I dint trust the endocrinologist I was referred to after this whole incident of my sample sitting there and not being told anything. Can the breast cancer that was high grade come back to form in the thyroid nodule? My levels show it functions normally so it’s so confusing that category 3! God bless us all. lets keep praying for safety, good health and guidance in all our lifes situations and decisions.

The Doctor clearing me for employment with the agency requested new thyroid levels blood work and a sonogram of my thyroid which then placed me on a medical hold. The sonogram showed I have 4 nodules and I am wondering if I find a thyroid specialist will they complete a biopsy. I am concerned because the sonogram report states some are suspicious, mildly suspicious and very suspicious. Thank you for sharing your knowledge

    Advice, if you are getting the biopsy. Ask the professional performing it if they are going to take more than one sample with the same needle.
    This could mean 1 Needle insertion, remove the tube LEAVING the needle inserted while getting a new tube.
    I was in the middle of the process and I clear my throat and scream say " don't move! Don't talk! The needle is still in your throat.
    I got mine done twice, the first was in a private fancy clinic payed out of my pocket since I didn't have medical insurance. It was done by a technician, he said it didn't look suspicious but I need to wait for the results. He took 4 samples with 2 needles ( +1 to numb first) . Result was 3.
    Second ine, (a year later) was in a public hospital due to the same place cost was 60% of my salary.
    In the public hospital I also got lab studios ( we found out that my thyroid had stopped working at all) and ultrasound (she said it looked promising, but i should must wait). A torso tomography with contrast. ( Didn't find anything weird)
    And finally the biopsy done by a doctor, not a technician. She said " by looking at it, it doesn't look like the ones that cause trouble, but if they ask for it, let's do it) I saw the process in the monitor while she was doing the sweeping motion with the needle, the difference with the first biopsy was:
    It was done by a doctor. She tried to get to every corner. In fact this time was way longer till the point when you start asking yourself " are we done?"
    It felt eternal and the amount of time she took moving the need inside the nodule felt eternal.
    But,it came out a Bethesda II!
    I forgot to mention, the only con with the Dr was that the numbing product took longer so the first biopsy needle, I felt quite a bit of the pain, I sucked hair through my teeth and tensed but didn't move or talk!
    No matter what it's still a needle you might feel something weird, or something pushing or a little pain.
    Well, if anyone is reading this, I wish you a good result or speedy recovery, have a good day!

    I have my FNAC tomorrow. Blood tests were within limits, but ultrasound identified 3 nodules. The largest is 4 x 3.5cm, and another 3 x 2.5cm. I've had some restrictions swallowing and breathing, but not to a point where I can't function. As the nodules are quite noticeable, I have a constant reminder of their presence. I have 9 nodules. Nodules are common in the USA. Six of mine have grown in the last two years after I had breast cancer. I just had my yearly thyroid ultra sound; they said it hadn't changed. My endocrinologist wants to use radiation on my thyroid, which will kill it. Right now I have sub-clinical hyperthyroidism so she says that I can not have radio frequency ablation, which doesn't kill your thyroid. Only 1.8% of Americans have this condition.

    I noticed my nodules in 2009 and had to change my Doctor because the one I had refused to have any test after my blood test came back normal. Unfortunately l trusted him and waited too long to change the Doctor. By the time I changed the doctor at first l was told it was Hashimoto but after the tests and treatments it wasn't getting better. They did a needle biopsy and the test came cat 4 but the nodule had gotten to the point l was choking so l was told to remove half of my Thyroid ( the side with a goiter). We had the surgery on March 29th 2011, two days later the surgeon called me personally and told me unfortunately l did have cancer ( papillary and follicular ) so we had to reopen my neck and they removed the other half of my Thyroid too and after the no salt diet l was given the radiation dose. Now years later they are monitoring my neck again because we have a new mass growing where there should be nothing and my lymph nodes are swollen. What strikes me though is the doctors didn't take the time to prepare me about the hell l will go through after living without a Thyroid and all the crap that comes as a result.

    I have nodules gound in routine ct scan at hospital. I tried ti do a needle biopsy yesterday. I could not do it, after the lidocaine needle, i could not do 5 more needles, was so odd and uncomfortable and now i don't know what to do. I had an ultrasound and it was over 2.

    My nodule is unfortunately affecting my swallowing, it's irritating, bothers my breathing, have been anemic requiring tons of iron infusions, and have lots about twenty pounds for unknown reason. My Doctor is going to move forward with further workup.

    I wish I can come to you but you are not in my state. Can you recommend a specialty thyroid surgeon in New Jersey or Maryland. Someone who is well experience in thyroid surgery and do many per month with a good rating. I haven’t found anyone that I feel comfortable with and who explains all that I am
    Asking. Thank you
