Had an ultrasound today after the ultrasound last week (while having Carotid U/S done) showed a 1.4x.98x1.16 hypoechoic nodule. Will see endocrinologist in December for Consult. i am a retired Cardiac Sonographer and Abdominal U/S Sonographer, and this was a great explaination for anyone.

I was given TIRAD 5 on my MRI and ultrasound with the impression as “highly suspicious:if FNA if >=1cm. and yet my ENT doctor ordered and FNI right away of which the result shows the nodule is benign. She talked me to have a thyroidectomy and acted very pushy citing over and over that the term “ internal micro calcification” and the family history (my mother aged 82 has thyroid cancer) mean I have very high risk of thyroid cancer. She scheduled a neck sergeant appointment for me the next day which I later on cancelled. She didn’t even answer my question about active surveillance (if it could be one of my choices). I am so grateful that I found this video. 🙏🙂

Thanks for sharing this. Two years ago I had a FNA on a nodule in my left thyroid, which came back as "Bethesda II." As a result of an ultrasound on my carotid arteries last month, the tech said that the left nodule appeared to have grown larger. I went to my endocrinologist last week for a Doppler high resolution ultrasound. He said it has grown quite a bit, that it is solid, hypo-echoic, with micro-calcifications and an irregular margin. My TI-RAD points equal 12, and I will have another FNA done next week including a lymph node. If the biopsy result is inconclusive, it seems that I would still need to have, at the least, a lobectomy ... not happy news, but something I will have to deal with.

What if I had an ultrasound 1.5 years ago that was .7 cm’s in size. Then when I got an ultrasound over 1 year ago it was 1 cm in size. It was rated as T4 at that time. About 4 weeks ago I started having pain in the front of my neck that woke me up at night. Then the last 3 days I started having that pain again but it was much more severe.
I called the Endocrinologist to schedule an appt and the earliest Appt is 2.5 months out! The person I spoke with said for me to go to the ER if I don’t want to wait that long.
The symptoms I’ve been having is: severe pain pushing on my neck, pain and pressure on my voice box making it hurt to talk, occasional swallowing problems, and slight burning pain in that part of the as of today. A few times I felt the need to cough from the pain also.
Could a benign nodule cause pain in the neck or would this indicate a stronger likelihood for malignancy?

From the 3 ultrasound images I got (that I had the radiologist print for me) I couldn’t help but notice micro calcifications and peripheral calcifications on the mostly solid nodule. I’ve continued to have pain the last week and will keep you posted on what I find out.

I am struggling to understand my TIRAD 3 score. My documents show a 1cm x .4cm x.8cm nodule on the right side. The composition is solid which tells me thats 2 points then the echogenicity is marked hypoechoic which should also be 2 points. Everything else scored a zero so would tht not be a TI-RAD4? the report sent to my doctor rated it as a TI-RAD3 with no further testing recommended. The reason I was scanned was due to hoarseness and swallowing difficulties and now im afraid something is being missed.

My nodule was biopsied 2 years ago, (benign) and was moved yo tirads 2 since it become isoechoic. In my recent ultrasound, it was moved bavk to tirads 3 become hypoechoic again, still solid but now have tiny cystic foci. Do i still need to biopsy this nodule again even after the result of the biopsy 2 years ago.
And i also now have 17 nodules, previously only 2.

It sounds like there needs to be more clinical and definitive information in using features in final reports. I had my final report with very vague information with no characteristics documented leading to their final grading. There needs to be more diagnostic criteria and better clinical differentiation to back up the information you provided. Why do an ultrasound? If what you are presenting that thyroid cancer is so rare. IKt doesnt make sense.

Good video, thank you for sharing. I received my ultrasound report today. I have 2 nodules. One scored a 3 and the other a 5. I'm waiting for the ENT Specialist to call and schedule biopsies. If the ENT schedule is booked 5 weeks out, should I seek another that may get me in sooner? This happened with my ultrasound referral and I requested another. The second referral got me to me in only 4 days. The first couldn't see me for 5 weeks. I've read that Anaplastic TC is really aggressive, grows fast and also spreads. I feel like I need to be seen asap. Your thoughts?
