HEY GUYS! Hopefully this helps those who have had their thyroid removed (from thyroidectomy) to better understand their situation! If you haven't already, be sure to download my free thyroid resources here: www.restartmed.com/start-here/
Thank you so much for all of this information. I had my thyroid removed with radioactive iodine when I was in high school. I am now 58 years old. And this is the first I've heard of this. I'm not sure if you're taking new patients but I would love to make an appointment to come see you.
I feel so punked by my endocrinologist who sent me for thyroidectomy 20 years ago, put me on synthroid, saw me not function and gain 100 lbs. His instructions were to use less salt, get on a grain "pyramid" diet and "walk'. My brain barely functioned as a wife, mother, employee. I found a integrative health office, my first appointment I was near hysterical. Would they also not believe me and tell me that "everything was normal"? My thyroid antibodies were 199.000. Inflammation through the roof. I am now on T3/T4 porcine meds. My brain works better but trying to lose the weight has not worked. I'm sickened by the thought of these offices continuing to hoodoo their patience and victim shaming their patients. Thank you for your series and patient education.
I hope you got this taken care of but I couldn't help but notice your comment about your Dr telling you to be on a grain diet. Hopefully you know by now that no one should ever recommend a grain diet anymore. I too had my thyroid removed and I too used to believe I was supposed to eat low fat and high grain diet. Not the case ! eat a high fat moderate protein and moderate healthy carbs only from green vegetables. Alternatively, if that doesn't work for you like it did and still does for me you can eat a carnivore diet. Humans are not meant to eat grains ! hope all is well.
I gained weight before my thyroidectomy. The doctors had excused my weight gain as a nursing mother and eating more to nurse. It was total BS. I gained 100 pounds in two and a half years. I went in for my routine OB/GYN appointment in November of 1994. At the appointment they found an issue with my urine and decided I needed to have more testing. I had a tumor on my thyroid. I was sent to an endocrinologist for a biopsy. They couldn't tell if it was benign or malignant. They scheduled surgery for January 1995. It ended up that I had thyroid cancer. I am sure if they had listened to me in regards to my weight gain it wouldn't have become cancerous. I am 29 years out from my thyroidectomy and I'm on levothyroxine. I have had struggles ever since. I'm tired most days. I also haven't been able to lose all the weight. To top it all off I gained another 60 pounds from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome after menopause. I ended up in surgery for a full hysterectomy due to bleeding and polyps in my uterus. I met with a dietician and was able to lose 60 pounds with a special diet of turkey, chicken, fish, veggies, and fruit. I was so miserable that it destroyed my physical relationship with my husband. It wasn't the only thing that caused our relationship to fall apart. He was abusive and neglectful of me and our children. Yep, my life pretty well sucked big time. My husband had an affair to top it all off and walked out almost 3 years ago. He cheated because his rule was you owe me sex when I want it. I finally filed for a divorce last November. He is dragging it out and making my life a living hell. I just don't get why he can leave to figure out his life, but I'm not allowed to move on with mine. He doesn't want to be a husband and father, but he doesn't want to give up what he thinks he owns.
I wish I had come across your videos years ago! 4 years wasted being completelty disable and gaslit by MANY different specialists and endochrinologists. I felt so lost. I'm so glad I found your videos. At least now I have a much better understanding and sense of direction with my condition and healthcare.
90 % of your great videos are with thyroid gland please more info and videos of us that have no thyroid gland, what ever u have will help us thanks Doc!
You clearly didn't listen to what he said in the video about people with no thyroid., when he is referring to hypothyroidism he is also referring to ppl with no thyroid
I had mine removed 10 years ago and my T3 levels have been ok with only taking Levothyrox, and then Tcaps (due to a change of excipients in levothyrox in France, i had a really bad reaction to the new version like a few millions of people in France). I've never had to supplements in vitamins to help with T4 and T3 activation, but I think it's due to a plant based and very healthy balanced diet, and I didn't gain weight either. I blood test every 3-6 months and I am usually stable on my TSH T3 T4 levels. if TSH moves i adjust my levotyroxine intake. I had a hard time being on the right dosage at first cause my doctor would put me on 100mcg but if it was too low (meaning my TSH was too high) he would put me on 125mcg because levothyroxine only does 25 increase or decrease in dosage.. so I would end up being too high (meaning TSH was too low) I then cut 25mcg tablets in half so i would take 112mcg but again it was too high. so I ended up doing 100mcg for 2 days sometimes 3 and then one 112mcg and so on. and that stabilised my TSH. I came up with that system on my own because my family doctor didnt know better (he can prescribe and has a basic understanding of endocrinology but isn't an endocrinologist) and the few endocrinologists I've seen were completely useless, gasliting, patronising, and really not educated at ALL about new research and ways to treat thyroid's illnesses (they are often more knowledgeable about diabetes). So my takaway is to read a lot (and not believe everything you hear or read either, just make sure a lot of studies corroborates with each other, and ALWAYS keep in mind that everyone has a different metabolism and what applies and works with me might not with you. One thing you also need to remember, and it was not my doctor telling me but when i mentioned it he said that was true, is that when you gain weight, you need to increase your levothyroxine intake (it makes sense as most meds work that way too) so if your TSH was stable when you weighted 160 pounds for instance, but you gained 30 since, chances are that you aren't taking enough levothyroxine, so please go blood test and see if your dosage is enough (and that goes both ways, if you lose. weight then you probably have to reduce your dosage). Don't forget to eat as healthy as you can and if you can't do take supplements, try to walk or power walk at least 30mn a day, hydrate, and always take your levothyroxine in the morning 30mn before eating or drinking coffee and avoid grapefruit at least for 4h after taking your meds.
Thanks for this information Just tested my TSH yesterday was too high ,calcium very low 😢 am just stressed ,done Thyroidectomy in 2018 and am takinh Thyroxine 100mcg ....doubled today due to high TSH ...not sure how safe it is ,the Dr said i should take 200mcg for five days then go back to 75mcg ..... What supplements do u take to help with your memory ?
@@JovyDumay my surgery was in 2013 and I'm still same weight. I actually gained two kilos this past year but I think it's due to other hormonal changes. I'm 45 now. But 62kg for 168m. Still on same dosage (that I decided on myself and my doctor agrees to prescribe cause it's keeping my TSH in the norm).
I gained 20 pounds one month post op my Thyroidectomy. I was at a normal weight before then. I continued to gain weight over the course of the year and ended up gaining 70 pounds total one year post op. It’s been miserable but thankfully I have found your videos and I think they will be of help to me
I have cancer on my left thyroid and my right is already large and possibly infected from the tumor on my left so i decided to take the thyroid out completely. It will be done on the 20th of June. Thank you for all the info. This does help me navigate moving forward. I have heard many people feel very tired they said and what you said make a lot of sense that if the medication is incorrect then your body will respond according to the meds. I will indeed watch all your videos to guide me throughout this journey.
Hi Dr Childs, thank you so much for your video. I am in a remote Australia town and the closest thing to medical help with thyroid problems is a Gp or a 14hr round trip drive. I have my thyroid completely removed 10 years ago against my better judgment, I now think it was not necessary. As soon as it was removed I started gaining about 2 kg per week (4lbs), it was alarming as I wasn’t overweight and walking every day. This went on till I was just over 100kg (202pounds) after a starting weight of 75kg (165lbs). My doctor said my levels were exactly right but I was feeling terrible. I made the trip to the city to see an endroconologist and he told me the same and that I just needed to excercise more and eat less. I now find that if I eat more that 1000 calories a day my weight balloons. It is so hard to even get proper nutrition with such a low intake. I hope that your supplements are availed to Australia as I’m desperate. A spine infection has made me not be able to exercise as much in the last year and I can see my weight creeping up again. I eat less that my 6 year old granddaughter, I’m 68. Thank you for reading this if you have time.
I was gaining weight starting in my 40s. Male, went from 180 to 300lbs. Then diagnosed with thyroid cancer at 55. Was losing weight slowly before surgery due to working out. After went to 225lbs by 57. Now as of today at 64, been gaining for last 3 years now at 240. Been on 150mcg synthroid this whole time. Complaints to my doctor about worsening energy and gaining weight was told to exercise more. The started viewing your videos. Really hard to find endocrinologists here in Tampa area. Not sure what I need to do, get overseas t4 extract, add essential t2, I already supplement and steer clear of the oxide formulations.
I had a partial thyroidectomy , and the partial worked for a few years, then fizzled out. I got put on T4. Several years later I was shoveling snow and my pelvis went out of alignment. The chiropractor I saw would adjust me, but kept coming out; it wouldn’t stick. The chiropractor told me I was probably still hypothyroid, even on the synthroid. I was taking . I started researching and found Mary Shomons book which explained about the T3. This was decades ago. I was lucky to find an integrative physician about an hour from me who put me on the T3 in addition to T4. My pelvis went into alignment and never went out since. It’s been a real pain all these years to try and find functional medicine doctors or any doctor who understands and prescribes T3. Lucky for me I was willing to research and travel to find someone.
Gained 10 lbs, hairloss...had thyroid cancer 11 years ago. So glad i found you. I had both thyroids removed. I probably need t3 and supplements. I get tired easily too. Im 52 now. Thank you Dr.
I put my father in law, who has hypothyroid and on levo, on nascent iodine, food based selenium and methyl b12 and it totally helped his med work better. He lost 60 lbs and his Dr's never bothered to check his levels from the huge weight loss so he ended up being hyperthyroid. So now he's being weaned finally.
😭😭😭😭 I am crying uncontrollably.. I had my thyroid completely ablated in 2006 when I was 25 I’m 41 now. I’ve been doing on Synthroid to date. I’ve been suffering all these years and never knew why 😭😭😭 in less than 10 mins you have clearly explained the body process and and literally I felt like you were speaking to my situation. Whyyyy has not one Dr in all these years figured out that I may be taking the wrong medication etc. I eat very healthy yet I’m overweight and my body refuses to lose a pound and for the life of my I never could understand why. Now I know. Thank you sir, for this information. I wish their was some way to hit you as my Dr. God bless you!
@@crystalvisions818 I had go have emergency surgery but if it wSng so urgent I wouldn't have had my thyroid out, I would have worked to heal it rather than be chained to medication the rest of my life.
@@crystalvisions818 if I'd known then what I know now, or had a Functional Med Dr back then, I would NEVER have had mine ablated!! No med or supplements accurately replace our thyroid functions within our bodies! Thyroid function affects EVERY body & organ process. It's been a lifetime of struggle, and menopause compounded the misery of it. There have been only brief periods of comfortable living.
How are you feeling now? I hope much and you have been put on the proper t3 mess. I am also 41 and had my thyroid removed at 28. Worst mistake I every made in my life.
@@mybossisinheaven523 they cause shortness of breath to my mother. And nodule is big we at hospital scheduled next week for surgery. What do u think?😢😢
I had my thyroid removed 15 years ago after a sever case of Hashimotos. I was never told some of this info. Thank you. I will be watching more of your segments.
Dr Westin I have listened to your comments. I had my thyroid removed due to cancer. When I have blood tests they are normal. I have all the problems you have listed. Weight gain , dry skin , itching. My bones ache and I am always tired, my energy level isn’t what it was. I take 175 thyroxine every day. My doctor feels because the blood tests are normal I do not have a problem. Thank you. Angela Freeman UK.
Thank you! I've been looking for information related to this topic since I had mine removed 2 years ago and lately I have not been feeling good and no doctor I've been has explain me the problems my body goes through since I don't have my thyroid. I'm looking forward to see every video you have post about it. I really want to feel better and also learn how MY BODY now works.
@@sovanmeng.v4715 It’s the worst decision I’ve made. It’s been years, I have learned on my own watching videos on RUclips what are the changes in my body, how the pill works and everything. I live in Puerto Rico and has been very hard for me to find a doctor that explains the changes, they just do some labs to find the right dose of Synthroid i need and thats all.. for me it’s been a nightmare.
@@user-cc7lt5cs4u I hope you have a better experience that I had.. find a doctor that explains you everything that your body will go through. My symptoms never stoped, I still feel tired, I gained weight, etc. But everybody is different and has different experiences. Find a good doctor and don’t give up. My recommendation is to ALWAYS take the pill, don’t skip a day. At least I at the beginning dint toked the pill everyday and it was horrible, I had never experience a depression like that. I hope you get a better experience.
Thank goodness you are doing these for us please don't stop making videos. Tour videos give us vital information our doctors don't bother to tell us if have only found these things out from you. I'm about to have mine removed and have been on t4 that has not done a single thing for me. I'm glad for this information so I can go fully armed to my appointments your awesome keep going paula England
I’ve had a total thyroidectomy on January 2,2015 because of suspicious nodules on both sides of my thyroid. To make the hormonal issues worse, I’ve have a bilateral salpingo Oophorectomy on June 14,2023.
So glad I came across this video! I had my thyroid removed 3 years ago and am currently on 125mg of levo. My doctor says my tsh levels are fine but mentally and emotionally I am often all over the place. I've gained about 10-15 pounds since the surgery, which isnt a big issue for me however there are areas of my body I just don't feel healthy in. Lately ive been trying to rule out bipolar depression because it seemed to be the only logical explanation I could find as to why I feel bad so often until I came across this video. Knowing that I can actually take other things alongside the levo that may help me both mentally and emotionally definitely feels like a bit of hope. I'm so tired. Thank you Dr. Childs for this video 🙏🏾
I have all these symptoms. I had my ablation done many, many years ago and I’ve been taking levothyroxine since then. I just sent this video to my doctor. Thank you.
I have my thyroid completely removed 2018. They jeep adjusting my Levothyroxine but nothing else. I gained weight, always tired, feels like i have arthritis, and now having a hysterectomy it's worse. Your video was an eye opener. Thank you for sharing
My wife had a full removal in 2012. She didn’t have antibodies but surgical pathology said Graves’ disease. Today she just had a right side lobe that was functioning and an ectopic thyroid tissue mass by her hyoid removed. Everyone is telling her it won’t grow back again but they said that the first time.
You answered many of my questions. I see my surgeon in 2 days for after surgery appointment. But at that meeting I will ask her if she will okay my plan on getting disability pay. I suffered 10 yrs already of hypothyroidism, so I know levothyroxine don't fully work, plus the changing of dosage every month or two. Luckily, I got hyperthyroidism as well the last year and lost 60 lbs. I can manage gaining 20 lbs back but a lifetime of depression, fatigue, foggy head...nope, I ain't doin' it.
I had the surgery in 1995, almost 30 years ago at age 17 and I wish I would’ve known more because I wouldn’t have gotten it. It has been a long nightmare that got worse after having children and now with age. I gained 170 lbs 20 years ago during my pregnancy and no matter what I do I can’t lose weight. I’ve always had a relatively healthy diet and would workout 4/5 days a week for an hour a day since I was a teenager. Now, I’m in so much pain from bone on bone knee pain caused by chronic inflammation caused by insufficient thyroid levels it’s hard to exercise like I use to. I would advise anyone to try other alternatives and/or doctors before getting a surgery that can be just as bad as the condition it’s treating except it’s a long drawn out deterioration of health that breaks down the body over time. Good luck and I wish you the best!
Thank you I will talk to my doctor again but he usually just tells me to watch what I eat he doesn't understand that I do and I also go to the gym 3 times a week about 2 hours I feel better but my weight will not come off I would like to lose 50 pounds my weight gone up or stays the same but won't go down I'm taking Levothyroxine 100 Mcg tablet.
Thank you for the video! My thyroid t4 to t3 conversion was perfect before I had 2 thyrogen injections in February 2019. I have gained 7 pounds immediately after the thyrogen injections, and an additional 13 pounds after. And I’m now insulin resistant. I went on a stringent diet and gained weight regardless. Experienced extreme fatigue over the last 9 months. Switching from levothyroxine to Tirosint was helpful but I still take liothyronine for T3. Still suffer from fatigue, brain fog, and inability to lose weight.
hey Andrea, Sorry for youre loss. I'm Jim, from Belgium, important! I had a full thyroidectomie in 2011 and a radio-active cure. i sufferd from fatique, weight gaine and hypoparatyroidism, it almost killed me. several years later i found a doctor that prescribed T3 supplement, until august2021. it doesn't exist anymore in Belgium nor Europe. i try everything. sinds september 2021 i surched for other solutions and i found KETO-genetic diet. this was a relief for me, i also need calcium and alfa leo, supplements for the bone. i found out during keto that my kidneys, liver, bowl, and dygestion was insufficient workinig, so poor digestion, constipation, bloting. it is all gone now. i've lost 20pnd in 5months, i do cycling, walking, my brain is working again, altough i feel tired iff there is no sun. and those days whe have many in Belgium. and temperature changes a lot here.
@@jimloots8410 Thank you for this. I am going to have my thyroid taken out but I have been doing a carnivore diet (extreme keto; only meat) and I was wondering if keto or carnivore would help my situation
I had my thyroid fully removed up to papillary cancer. I currently take just Synthroid. I went from someone with more energy then I knew what to do with to someone who struggles everyday being extremely tired. What should I do to normalize my T3 levels and how should I follow up. My doctors have not been very helpful!
Biopsy came back as suspicious, seeing the doctor next week to discuss removal but I don’t know if it’s total or just half. This was extremely helpful thank you , new sub!
Thank you Dr Child's for this informative video. I had my thyroid removed 10 years ago at the age of 25 due to thyroid cancer. Since then i have been taking levothyroxine and never felt well. I finally found an endocrinologist who trialed me on T3 liothyronine along sidey levothyroxine and i finally feel almost back to normal after suffering for 9 years and not being listened to by specialists. Do you still recommend i can take supplements even tho I'm on a T3 as well?
Thank you for making me understand all about my thyroid. I had a complete removal of my thyroid 3 years ago I am going through all the symptoms that you have mentioned in your video ..please advise me on how to go about taking the right medication. At the moment I am taking eltroxin.....75mg ..
All the above applies to me. I’m on both 125mg T4 and 10mg of T3. I still have hypothyroid symptoms. Increases weight gain, fatigue, depression, hair loss etc :(
Agree 💯 I find your posts really helpful. Been dealing with hypo for more than 15 years (no thyroid). I do however think that those who've had a removal of Thyca, do need to be put in a different basket - at least for the few years after dx. Personally, I was purposely kept hypo to prevent a reoccurrence and only recently was "allowed" to lower the Synthroid and add Liothyronine. This has helped. However, the weight gain that ensued after TT and RAI was easily 20 lbs and menopause added an other big number - another 20lbs.. I will watch your video about weight loss next!
I had NO idea I could take iodine and other supplements and mine was removed 7 years ago! I have T4 and T3 medications, but this information is just amazing to know! Thank you
I had my thyroid completely removed 10 years ago and have always just been on Synthroid anywhere between 0.175 to .225. I had a benign tumor that was extremely vascular and growing quickly, they couldn't tell if it was cancerous so they rushed me in. I ended up in the trauma unit for 5 days after surgery, whole list of problems occurred hours after surgery. I do not suffer weight gain whatsoever and never have, its the opposite for me where i have issues keeping my weight. They have never sent me for a T3 test, its always a T4 blood test. I now am told I have high calcium and my doctor is concerned about it. He also tells me there is a chemical being produced from my brain because of the absence of a thyroid and it is producing too much of it. He says this chemical can effect my heart rhythm. Kinda freaking out now. What i have noticed throughout the years that i will suffer EXTREME chill to the point it feels like a seizure, i can feel it coming on out of nowhere and when it happens, im running for the hot hot shower and stay im there for at least 30 minutes until im comfortable to get out. This happens at least once every 3 months ish. Hope you can give me some insight.
I had my thyroid complete remove, I had seeing the best Dr. however I was confused about if I was hipper or Hypo thyroids thank you for the information.
Hi doc. I'm three years after my thyroidectomy .. i have got weight like a 20 kg . I'm taking medications but i still struggle with losing weight . I exercise every day , and i feel that my body is struggling . My heart beets are very fast , i feel that i can not breath and i'm tired all the time!!!!
It's been 18 years since thyroidectomy and RAI. I've begged my doctors for help. I've never been told anything you've just spoken of. I've only ever used synthroid. No talk of supplements, no talk of iodine, or T3. I feel absolutely lied to. 😠
I am 72 years old woman who had a thyroidectomy when I was 19. Hyperactive thyroid with goitre enlarged. I was told that 80% of the gland was removed. I improved greatly immediately. Lived normally with no medication or supplements to my mid 30s and lost energy badly and was put on thyroxine. I am on Levothyoxine now I am hypothyroid but very thin? Most doctors say no to T3. Should I be taking T3 as well? I find your talks very informative.
My endocrinologist is only on T4 medication and she has been on it for the past 36 years (since her full thyroidectomy) and she feels and looks really good. Is it possible some people do well just on T4 medication?
Thank God for this video!!! I am scheduled to have a my thyroid removed in the next few weeks and this information was vital. I feel like I'm working with Neanderthal doctors that only drink the Big Pharma Kool-aide. I'm absolutely terrified and suffer from severe anxiety as well. This diagnosis has nearly done me in just trying to get my head around it. There is no history of cancer on either side of my family. I'm discovering this is prolific in women and not being properly addressed. Not only do I get my thyroid removed I have lymph nodes that need to be removed as well. The scar will be huge and I have to carry a drain bag for awhile when I'm done. They are also pushing that I will need to take radioactive iodine pill/s after the surgery due to the cancer being metastatic. This will be the second surgery I have because they just removed an enlarged lymph node that left a huge scar already. I don't even know if I want to go through any of this!!! What if something happens and we can't get medication? The world isn't exactly stable. How, on earth, are we all supposed to function if that necessity goes down?
Very very good and educational video! Thank you! I had my thyroid and parathyroids removed back in 2011 after a thyroid storm that almost killed me. I was born with hypothyroidism and it was very hard to get my levels to a good place so when I ended up in that thyroid storm it swelled up so much it cut off my arteries and airway so I was rushed into surgery to remove my thyroid. Unfortunately the surgeon cut straight thru my airway and cut my vocal chords in half paralyzing them shut so when I woke up from surgery I couldn't breathe and they had to do a bedside tracheostomy on me. It was a nightmare and I'm still traumatized. My question tho is I'm 27 weeks pregnant with my first baby and my doctor wants me to take supplements, but I don't know which ones are safe while pregnant so any information you could give me would be so amazing ❤ thank you for everything you do to help people like me!
Best video on this subject that I've found! I had my thyroid removed over about 40 years ago. I'm now on Bovine thyroid from Nutri-Meds. Any recommendations?
I had radioactive removal of my thyroid. If I miss taking levi thyroxine more than 2 days I’m foggy and sluggish. I typically weighed 158-168. I’m Right now 192 lbs. I used to be a runner with a high metabolism so running 30-1 hour a day would get me toned and in shape. It has definitely been harder to lose weight. I lost 6 lbs in the last week but I’m running about 3 miles a day to see results rather 1 Mike. Question. In some crazy even where there was a shortage of medicine. What would be a alternative for meditation until I could get some medicine. I went on vacation and my bottle was lost at sea. It got me thinking. In a bad situation what would I need to do?
You CAN NOT skip medication!! There is NO alternative my god... You really need to start understanding what it means to even slightly go off balance by not taking the right dose daily.
I had a thyroidectomy due to cancer, and 2 rounds of radiation. My endo has mentioned me losing weight... But has NEVER checked my T3, only my T4, and had me on synthroid. I eat healthy, walk a lot, etc... Never enough. I'm a little in shock right now. I might need a different doctor...
Hi I am Kay from South Africa . I had a total thyrodecmy. It's like they took out my engine. I have gained so much of weight even though I don't eat much . Removing the my thyroid has affected the quality of my life . I have no energy, now have autoimmune disease. For those of you who still have your thyroid and can save yourself from having a thyrodecmy please do so cause once you have that ok there is no going back . Your life will never be the same . So if you don't have cancer of the gland don't remove it unless it's life threatening.
Hi Dr Childs I had my thyroid removed 11 years ago. I put on 20kg and struggle to loss weight. I was on Levothyroxine for 9 years it felt like a slow death. I changed 3 years ago to thyro-gold (NTD) and felt a huge difference. So much better. Only thing is my blood test are showing t4 :13.9 and TSH 0.01. How can I get my TSH normal please? Is this why I’m putting on weight?
I just had my thyroid and parathyroid glands removed and had read that I would likely gain weight after the surgery. I had always had a very hard time losing weight but decided to try the keto diet. I lost 30 lbs and it was the easiest diet I had ever tried. Even though it is said you can eat all you want I still ate only until I was satisfied, no more. I have felt so much better. Maybe this would work for you.
TSH doesn't make you overweight friend, TSH is responsible for the Release of T3/T4 from the thyroid, TSH basically Promotes the Release of Thyroxin(T4)...... A low TSH may not interfere with your weight, But Low T4 will make you fat... When your T4 levels are high, your body tries to reduce TSH because its no longer needed...in high amounts.....thats what happening to you
I’m due to have my thyroid removed 8/3. I’m canceling the surgery. The reason they want to take my thyroid is because my EP specialist (Cardiologist) has stated that the reason I have tachycardia is because of my thyroid despite the fact, I’m either hypo or hyper thyroid. My endocrinologist is great, and she has fought it the entire way, stating that taking my thyroid is not going to suddenly relieve the tachycardia. Granted, I do have a goiter and nachos and there are times where it is bothers him for me the feeling of compression in my throat but I don’t know if it’s to the point that I need to have it entirely removed and especially if it isn’t going to erase the tachycardia as the EP specialist claims I have been on the fence for a long time about having this surgery. Even the surgeon told me that it isn’t going to fix the tachycardia and if he removes it it will strictly be based on if it’s bothersome to me. I am very concerned about life after a thyroid as I struggle as it is with MS. I had an FNA. Pathology came back clean I do have what’s called a TIRAD 5 module but my endocrinologist still does not believe I should have it removed. She’s very concerned about the effects it will have on me, because I also have secondary progressive MS, which makes things difficult for me as it is. This was very informative and I am very grateful for this video. I wondered if there was any thoughts you had on my situation and I realize that it’s only an opinion so no worries. . Thank you so much for helping everyone with your great videos Doctor 🙏🏻♥️
I have my subtotal thyroidectomy in April 2021 also nodules were growing inside my both sides of thyroid . But now I'm feeling that I'm gaining weight and often feel too much tiredness and weakness.
Omg where have you been all my life! I had a total thyroidectomy back in November 2017 and I feel absolutely horrible. All I’m currently taking is levothyroxine 88 mg which is T4 no T3 at all. I have all the weird symptoms.. I’m chronically fatigued my body aches all day brain fog weight gain irritated all the time body temperature all over the place. I can’t concentrate I have headaches I just feel like I’m slowly fading away. I will definitely get on this with my not so helpful Endocrinologist I have and request some T3. They usually give patients in Atlanta Cytomel as a form of T3. Anyone familiar please share your experience. Thank you so much for this information Dr. Child’s
Not many people talk about partial thyroidectomy. I had one side removed from hyperthyroidism due to thyroid nodule which overproduced hormones. I lost about 30lbs quickly and extreme headaches and fatigue so debilitating and exhausting. I would be in bed at 7pm every night so i could work the next day.I had to lay a certain way in bed so i could breathe as the nodules were closing my windpipe which gave me some anxiety. It felt like I was being choked to death.😢 After fine needle biopsy ruled out cancer and had surgery. There was no follow up testing was done after surgery to monitor my thyroid levels but after going to a different doxtor and seeing holistic pharmacist that worked with this doctor I was put on levothyroxine. But now I find the older Im getting the more I have to lower my dose.
@kikakukeko Get your levels tested BEFORE the surgery date. Insist on it. Then make sure your doctor monitors your levels 6 weeks maximum time to test after surgery. I can't stress that enough. My levels dramatically dropped, I was so exhausted I couldn't walk up a flight of stairs without having to rest half way up. I was underweight and only 37 years old then but, within a month after surgery I gained 15 lbs and didn't change my eating habits. My body stored every calorie. I felt so horrible and my family doctor could care less (specialist did the surgery) Family doctor said he wouldn't treat subclinical levels- I didn't know what my levels were before and after...DEMAND they tell you. In the end, I was started on thyroid meds with my pharmacist advocating for me after getting my thyroid levels bloodwork to review. Almost 20 years later and I'm losing weight from being overweight for most of those years. I'm exercising daily, getting fresh air, cut back on morning coffee routine so doesn't interfere with small dose of thyroid meds. Stay hydrated with water flushing your system. Cut back on junk food/processed foods, cheese and most dairy and meat portions. Dont evening binge eat! You still need meat for optimal health, tried no meat and ran into low b12 and low iron issues. Within a week of introducing meat I felt way better just smaller portions. You should be eating way more vegetables and fruits than meat. I eat white jasmine rice, white bread versus grain breads and brown rice. I can't drink alcohol, physically it makes me have heartburn and brings on sinus allergies, so not worth it. It never bothered me a few years ago, which is strange. AVOID COFFEE WITHIN 1-2 hours after taking your meds, or try taking meds at night on an empty stomach with plain water. Hope this helps.
I had total thyroidectomy 18 years ago,I take levo 100 mcg and switched to 150 mcg. Now I haven't taken medicine for 5 months and I am affected so much by it physically, emotionally and mentally. People around me don't understand my condition.
I have had my thyroid removed about 30 years ago. I'm on Sythroid 0.2 for the longest time. I was losing my hair so now I'm on 1.75. I have had highs and lows forever. What's supplements would you recommend. My doctor never recommended anything. I have a test every year or so. I'm 66 and have a few medical problems. I recently heard about apple cider vinegar and a lemon. I boil the ingredients with cinnamon sticks and cinnamon powder, some ginger, and turmeric. Over the last year I have more energy and this solution detox my body. I do this for 3wks every month. But why am I losing my hair?
Thank you for your amazingly informative videos, I've just come across them . Would you be able to do a video for people who've had a hemithyroidectomy please? I had one over two years ago & my health has declined greatly & I'm desperate to know how to regain it .
@@drwestinchilds Thank you very much in advance. There doesn't seem to be much information on this subject on line & I'm sure there are hundreds of people in my situation.
I have been on thyroid medication for almost thirty years and developed large nodules on the thyroid and the doctor removed both the thyroid and the parathyroid glands. I had read that I would gain after surgery so I tried the keto diet but still only ate until I was full, no more and I lost thirty pounds with not a lot of effort. I had never been able to lose weight on a calorie restricted diet so this might be an option for you. It is worth a try.
My mom had her thyroid removed over 4 years ago due to hyperthyroidism and nodules on the thyroid. She was fine afterwards with hormone medicaton (100mcg daily) and for several years, however this year in Spring she started experiencing some symptoms, such as nausea, weakness/low energy (but not tiredness), sweating, weight loss. She switched medication, which made it even worse, so she went back on the original med, letrox, but 75mcg. In Summer of this year, her symptoms got worse, plus she started sweating excessively all day and night and lost even more weight (by now she lost about 25 lbs). She also has low appetite. So she started skipping days in the hormone medication. In September, she paused the medication twice for a bit longer, once for 8 days, once for 6 days. Now she's taking 75 mcg every other day or 2. If she takes it daily, symptoms get worse. When she pauses for 6-7 days, symptoms also get worse. Last blood test was May 30th, T3: 4.26 (not sure what unit that refers to) and T4: 13.7. We just did muscle testing today and T3 is at 50 ng/dl, and T4 at 13. Most symptoms speak more for hyper, but some, like weakness, hairloss, dry skin for hypo. Do you have any idea what we are missing? Thank you so much in advance for your insights. At this point, she has no energy to go to the doctor for a blood test, which is usually accompanied with several hours of waiting. She can't be in any cool room or draft due to the sweating. Her body does not produce heat. So far no doctor has been able to help her.
Had total thyroidectomy 3 years ago. Work so hard to to loose weight. Yes It did pays off and still continues to exercise and eat whole foods as I can. My worries is in events of war or recessions medications are scarce. We will not survive😢 Is there any natural replacements?
I have had issues with weight loss and severe fatigue. I am on armour and have found it hard to get any information from my endocrinologist on how to feel better in general…outside of the superficial “get enough rest,” healthy diet, etc. Suggestions?
My thyroid was removed this year June 4 due to cancer. I have lost over 35 pounds since surgery and told its normal. I’m always told everything is normal but yet I had surgery. I’m on Levothyroxine 100mg now. I also started following a plant base diet. I also decided to take my Levothyroxine at 5:00am and and 4 hours later take vitamins. I also decided not to eat glutten. Of course doctor says it doesn’t matter when to take medication. They tell me eat everything and take medicine either morning or late in the day. Are there any foods I should avoid? Any supplements I should take?
I've had hypothyroidism for years, due to RAI treatment. I've had many doctors, they all said, when taking levothyroxine or synthroid, you should take it in the morning, with no other medications or supplements. Also, not to eat walnuts, grapefruit juice or take dietary fiber, because they can make synthroid less effective. I think there are other things to avoid, but these are the only things I was ever told about. Also, if you take Biotin supplements, don't take them for a week before you get your blood tested for thyroid function. It interferes with the test. I hope this helps. Good luck to you both! ❤
I was born without my thyroid gland.. I didn’t start seeing or feeling my symptoms of weight gain until high school 😞 I take typical Levo to treat my hypothyroidism.. I feel like I not many drs or specialists havent explained nearly as much as you have! I struggle with soo much of the symptoms dealing with the condition 😞
@Jesse Bennett yes I’m the same! I feel like my workouts do nothing to help my weight, i don’t have bad food habits, mood swings and anxiety have gotten so much worse too! I dunno what to do and I’m in my early 30s and i don’t know how control it all.
Can I ask you about Ramadan fasting for people who had a thyroidectomy? No food or water for an average of 15h for a month. How that would effect their health and is it dangerous?
I’m supposed to have my thyroid removed due to suspected cancerous nodules. I’m terrified because I’m post menopausal which caused a 30 pound weight gain despite walking 35 miles a week and a plant based diet. I can not gain anymore, so I’m actually thinking of postponing surgery because I don’t want to risk more medical conditions related to obesity after I have it removed. This is great information and I’m subscribing and saving. I’m just so sad over the whole thing 😭
It can spread to other areas if not removed. You don’t want to have to remove cancer twice if left in and it spreads to lymph nodes or brain or lungs. You are probably gaining weight because of the thyroid not functioning right. My thyroid cancer caused my tpo to be at 900 and it’s supposed to be 9 or lower. I was 40lbs underweight. So cancer on your thyroid can affect a lot.
My thyroid was removed due to cancer, about 20 years ago. I’ve probably gained around 10 pounds or so, since then, which isn’t that bad. Some of my healthy friends have gained a lot more than that. The weight gain is not uncontrollable.
I’m on Thyroxine 100mg tablets for the rest of my life after having the thyroidectomy surgery. I have gained over 10kilos and having major fatigue issues. Doctor doesn’t suggest anything else apart from the tablet I’m already taking. What else can I take to boost and what sort of iodine stuff I should be taking ? I’m extremely depressed with my current situation and weight gain and fatigue has played a major part a
I had my thyroid removed in 2010 via radiation therapy (I had cancer markers and was a thyper/ Graves/ hashimotos thyroid patient) I was diagnosed with thyper thyroid when I was 10 (1999) at a time when thyroid disease was not widely tested for or thought of outside of Middle aged or adult women (most common) and men. I was one of the youngest people in the world with my diagnosis. I had my thyroid removed, again, in 2010. Since then I have gone through a lot. I almost died after going two years without my levo. And had a few scares since. Now, it only takes a few days to a week for me to get really sick of I don't have my thyroid meds. Loss of cognitive function, seizures, and pericardial effusion. Also after my thyroid removal (yes it was radiation but there is NO thyroid there) I never gained weight. I've been trying. I was so small when I was hyper, but even having no thyroid I've never gotten to 110lbs. That's my goal. I want to donate blood. I just don't understand how I can be not just hypo, but no thyroid and still can't gain weight even with normal thyroid levels. I eat, a lot, I work out (mostly at work, I'm a chef) but I just can't gain weight.
It depends on what you are aiming for but if you want to enhance T4 to t3 conversion then you'll want to use this one: www.restartmed.com/product/t3-conversion-booster/ You can also use iodine: www.restartmed.com/product/iodine-ultra-complex/
I had mines removed in November 2023 I'm on 112mcg ,I feel fine, except my hair is doing a little shedding, after surgery I resume all my other medicines anxiety, blood pressure ,cholesterol, and also hydrocortisone I have an adrenaile deficiency
I can't help but notice so many people close to me who have suffered greatly from all sorts of cancers (especially thyroid) and also happen to be young, have all had the flu shot or other vaccines a few months or less than a year prior to their diagnosis. Do you ask your patients ever when they first come to you if they have had any shots prior to their problems?
Once again great explanations I never realized that I should be taking iodine, since I don’t have thyroid, I thought it wasn’t needed, duh..... question with regard to my tsh level, it’s .001. I’ve been told that it’s irrelevant when you have no thyroid, is that true? Biggest issue for me is the weight gain/ hard to lose, and also going thru menopause was horrific. Is this from all the mess our hormones are in without a thyroid? Keep the videos coming, they are fantastic. Thanks so muc
Great information to know. I was scheduled for surgery on Friday 5/6 and hit cancel . My blood t3 t4 not to good. This surgery get me nervous every time I think about it. Do you have a video of the dangerous of things that can go wrong during surgery.
I just had my thyroid and parathyroid glands removed and was nervous before surgery but I was pleasantly surprised. I had a very sore throat the first day and couldn’t talk but day two much better and day four feeling pretty good. My doctor was excellent
I had a complete thyroid removeal, 25 yrs. Ago. I have struggled with weight gain, that whole time. I stopped drinking, i started intermittent fasting , and I gained weight 20 lbs. since that surgery. My dr. Only has me on levothyroxine. I’m 67 yrs. Old, and very active.
Lucky! For some of us the T4 medication works bc our bodies are able to absorb and convert the T4 properly. Everyone is different every body is different
I had Graves disease and was down to 120 lb and I was so shaky and sweaty and heart pains and heart palpitating they found a big huge nodules all over my thyroid.. so last year March I had a full thyroidectomy and I used to be a singer now I cannot sing a my voice cracks that's what one of the most upsetting to me and I'm 170lbs!! Before I became hyper my normal weight was around 1:40 when I got Graves disease eye drop down to 120 now I'm 170 lbs and I cannot believe it the doctors don't know what they're doing I never took levothyroxine I've been on Armour Thyroid this whole time I'm on 60 grams...still fat..tired..bones hurt...the whole 9... how the heck can I lose weight what can I possibly do??? I am the largest I have ever been..HELP
Me too, same problems. Heart failure was the reason why they finally pushed for RAI. I wished I would have fixed my graves naturally like I had done in the past. Now I’m pre-diabetic & diabetes doesn’t even run in my family. It’s because I can’t get the weight off, and I’ve never weighed 170 besides being 9 months pregnant. I’ve never felt worse & regret it. I’ve also paid tons of $$ out of pocket to see naturalists because western meds is not always the answer. I’m also estrogen dominant. The docs have put me on phentermine & I still couldn’t lose weight. ☹️😥
@@MR-luna303 I know I didn't want to deal with either do the surgery they try to push the radioactive iodine but I didn't want to do that either I finally did the surgery because it was an emergency.. and they knocked into my vocal cords and I'm a singer.. yes I'm a hundred and seventy pounds at 5 foot 2 and 1/2...and always in pain.. now they are saying that I have osteoarthritis in my spine and im only 42... I was thinking about going to Natural doctors and doing all that but I'm not going to spend all my money just to not get help like what I hear from everybody else so I just have to take things extremely serious and take matters into my own hands that's why I'm on this you tube page.. because this doctor here is the only one who makes any sort of sense and explained everything thoroughly.. but not enough people ever spoke about living without a thyroid so I felt alone for a long time up until right now
Hang in there. Don’t take no for an answer. I’ve even felt like refusing to leave the docs office until they fix me. Then I would’ve probably ended up in a stray jacket. 😂 I was so desperate that I had friends & family buying me higher doses of thyroid meds from Mexico to self medicate myself to adjust my dose myself. You have to stick up for yourself because no one else will. I’m 45 & 5’3. I did have a lot of pain until I got the doc to add T3/ cytomel
Neither I. I don't want my thyroid to be takin out. My doctor discussed about having thyroid remove and radiation. When I heard the consequences nah I refused the idea of having a surgery.
If you are referring to which ones to take, here are the ones that work if you don't have a thyroid: Thyroid Daily Essentials 1 packet each day 2 capsules of T3 Conversion Booster daily (important if you take T4 only medication!) 2 Capsules of Thyroid Adrenal Reset Complex daily 1-2 Capsules of Leptin Resistance RX daily You can find them all here: www.restartmed.com/shop/
@@drwestinchilds you are a blessing they're taking mine out this Thursday😔 I have gain over 15pounds already I'm so scared that I might even gain more after my surgery I really hope I don't. But Thank you! for all the good information and I will buy these products just incase
Hi Dr Westin Childs. I had my thyroid removed in 2010 and like so many, my dr would not put me on a T3. I finally found a dr that prescribed Naturethroid 2 years ago and I feel amazing. The only problem is trying to get it every month, I joke with my pharmacist that heroine is probably easier to get. My question is...should I be taking supplements even though I'm on a T3 now?
Thank you so much for your videos, they are so informative and really help debunk all the rubbish we get told by GPs who don't really know anything about the Thyroid. I wanted to ask about the last point you mentioned, meds for life, and that we can't live without them. What would happen if we forget our meds or let's say we have an accident and are in a coma and can't take our meds (and the Drs don't know to give it to us)? Or alternatively what happens if we take too much levo? That happened to me once, brain fog and all that (I am almost 50 and no thryoid plus perimenopause are a double whammy), I took my levo (and a high dose of it as I was still in suppression) twice because I wasn't sure anymore whether I had already taken it. I felt quite strange, jittery and dizzy the next day. I am guessing we really need to be careful with that? I also wanted to ask about Ozempic. Is there a confirmed link between Ozempic and ThyCa (I had papillary, currently low risk of recurrence)? And isn't there an argument to be made that the obesity related illnesses and health risks (heart attacks, stroke, dementia etc.) are actually more dangerous and will kill us faster than the risk of the ThyCa recurring?
Good evening, I just got my thyroids removed a few days ago, I was underactive (hypo) they put me back on levothyroxine 137MCG, what else should I be taking to not gain weight and to feel better?
Dr. Childs what are your thoughts on Cytomel (Liothyronine Sodium)? Thank Goodness for my fabulous NP who prescribed them to me a year after my thyroidectomy (due to cancer throughout) in 1997 at age 32 when my firstborn was 1-year old. Never had “serious” issues with thyroid symptoms. I am now 59, post menopause, and enjoy dance, yoga, and Pilates 5 days a week. Eat healthy, no fried foods or sugar and try to eat clean.
I was born without a thyroid, I'm 34 and haven't taken synthriod in over 16 years. I'm a bit chunky but never really noticed anything for not taking it. Haven't seen or felt anything negative. I have a full head of hair and work a full time job as a radiography technician. Honestly I have no regrets I have the glands though. I was told I'd have to get the glands removed as an adult or something like that. But I really don't think I'll do it.
HEY GUYS! Hopefully this helps those who have had their thyroid removed (from thyroidectomy) to better understand their situation!

Thank you so much for all of this information. I had my thyroid removed with radioactive iodine when I was in high school. I am now 58 years old. And this is the first I've heard of this. I'm not sure if you're taking new patients but I would love to make an appointment to come see you.

How well would natural thyroid work?
Thyroid out due to Cancer.
@@drwestinchilds Yes you do. Thank you for that. :o)
I’m so with you on this! Same and same and same!
I am exactly where you were with the brain fog, weight gain and I’m “normal” a I am for sure not feeling normal.

Glad you found them!
Hi thank you Iam struggling with weight gain and my doctor's as you said have no idea how to treat

Well that explains everything..13 yrs Total thyroidectomy for me. Thank you for information.
My pelvis
went into alignment and never went out since.
Both? You have more than one????
She means both lobes were removed.common misunderstanding.
Does He have a thyroid?
@kathleenmayorga6414 yes but he also had radiation on it when they initially diagnosed him with hyper
Do you think I should remove mine too? Would you suggest it!.. cause I don’t know what to do but I’m against such surgeries

Hi I got it removed for same reason how do u feel now pls let me know ?
Dr Westin I have listened to your comments. I had my thyroid removed due to cancer. When I have blood tests they are normal. I have all the problems you have listed. Weight gain , dry skin , itching. My bones ache and I am always tired, my energy level isn’t what it was. I take 175 thyroxine every day. My doctor feels because the blood tests are normal I do not have a problem. Thank you.
How are you doing now?

@@sovanmeng.v4715 It’s the worst decision I’ve made. It’s been years, I have learned on my own watching videos on RUclips what are the changes in my body, how the pill works and everything. I live in Puerto Rico and has been very hard for me to find a doctor that explains the changes, they just do some labs to find the right dose of Synthroid i need and thats all.. for me it’s been a nightmare.
@@user-cc7lt5cs4u I hope you have a better experience that I had.. find a doctor that explains you everything that your body will go through. My recommendation is to ALWAYS take the pill, don’t skip a day. At least I at the beginning dint toked the pill everyday and it was horrible, I had never experience a depression like that. I hope you get a better experience.

Thank you.
what did you doctor says after seeing the video
@@mariachua3780 nothing really. Probably didn’t watch it. Said she could refer me to a specialist and to have bloodwork done.
Thanks for sharing!
hey Andrea, Sorry for youre loss.

I had a complete removal of my thyroid 3 years ago
I am going through all the symptoms that you have mentioned in your video ..please advise me on how to go about taking the right medication.
I have Hashimoto's and now Graves disease. Cant find anything on have both autoimmune disorders.
Hope you can give me some insight.
high calcium could be parathyroid issue.

I insisted on getting T3 that I take twice a day. I have lost weight with intermittent fasting. Energy level pretty good
What T3 are you taking
I am 72 years old woman who had a thyroidectomy when I was 19. Hyperactive thyroid with goitre enlarged. I was told that 80% of the gland was removed. I improved greatly immediately. Lived normally with no medication or supplements to my mid 30s and lost energy badly and was put on thyroxine. I am on Levothyoxine now I am hypothyroid but very thin? Most doctors say no to T3. Should I be taking T3 as well? I find your talks very informative.
Thanks so much for making these videos.
No problem!
Can you make a video about the things a patient to consider before having radioactive iodine treatment
Can you make a video about us who were born without functioning thyroid?
It depends on how you are feeling :) No recommendations needed if you are feeling 100%.

TSH doesn't make you overweight friend,
TSH is responsible for the Release of T3/T4 from the thyroid, TSH basically Promotes the Release of Thyroxin(T4)......
It felt like I was being choked to death.😢
After fine needle biopsy ruled out cancer and had surgery. There was no follow up testing was done after surgery to monitor my thyroid levels but after going to a different doxtor and seeing holistic pharmacist that worked with this doctor I was put on levothyroxine.
But now I find the older Im getting the more I have to lower my dose.
i'm going to have mine to be partially removed. could you tell me more about the weight loss/gain? how to maintain it?
@kikakukeko Get your levels tested BEFORE the surgery date. Insist on it. Then make sure your doctor monitors your levels 6 weeks maximum time to test after surgery. I can't stress that enough. My levels dramatically dropped, I was so exhausted I couldn't walk up a flight of stairs without having to rest half way up. I was underweight and only 37 years old then but, within a month after surgery I gained 15 lbs and didn't change my eating habits. My body stored every calorie. I felt so horrible and my family doctor could care less (specialist did the surgery)
Family doctor said he wouldn't treat subclinical levels- I didn't know what my levels were before and after...DEMAND they tell you.
People around me don't understand my condition.

so what are your recommendations to lose weight for those of us that don't have a thyroid?
I have been on thyroid medication for almost thirty years and developed large nodules on the thyroid and the doctor removed both the thyroid and the parathyroid glands. I had read that I would gain after surgery so I tried the keto diet but still only ate until I was full, no more and I lost thirty pounds with not a lot of effort. I had never been able to lose weight on a calorie restricted diet so this might be an option for you. It is worth a try.
So glad I found you, keep up the good work.
Do you think yearly dental X Ray's are harmful ?
Had total thyroidectomy 3 years ago. Work so hard to to loose weight. Yes It did pays off and still continues to exercise and eat whole foods as I can. My worries is in events of war or recessions medications are scarce. We will not survive😢 Is there any natural replacements?

My thyroid was removed this year June 4 due to cancer. I have lost over 35 pounds since surgery and told its normal. I’m always told everything is normal but yet I had surgery. I’m on Levothyroxine 100mg now. I also started following a plant base diet. I also decided to take my Levothyroxine at 5:00am and and 4 hours later take vitamins. I also decided not to eat glutten. Of course doctor says it doesn’t matter when to take medication. They tell me eat everything and take medicine either morning or late in the day. Are there any foods I should avoid? Any supplements I should take?
Following. I had total thyroidectomy last Dec 29 2022 due to cancer. I'm New to this and I want to collect more information about it.
Desiccated thyroid works for my daughter who was born without thyroid gland
@@bmwtruefan what’s that? I never heard of it??
@Jesse Bennett yes I’m the same! I feel like my workouts do nothing to help my weight, i don’t have bad food habits, mood swings and anxiety have gotten so much worse too! I dunno what to do and I’m in my early 30s and i don’t know how control it all.
I was born without it as well and my weight journey has sucked
No thyroid gland gang I have a problem of not gaining weight and it sucks I can't eat I always feel full and so weak
Thank you so much 🙏
Can I ask you about Ramadan fasting for people who had a thyroidectomy?
❤did you have the surgery, and if so how are you doing
What happens to people who have only the right side of the thyroid is removed?
I have mine remove and I'm on levo and feeling not very well...what supplement should I take?
It depends on what you are aiming for but if you want to enhance T4 to t3 conversion then you'll want to use this one: www.restartmed.com/product/t3-conversion-booster/
You can also use iodine: www.restartmed.com/product/iodine-ultra-complex/
Thanks
I had mines removed in November 2023 I'm on 112mcg ,I feel fine, except my hair is doing a little shedding, after surgery I resume all my other medicines anxiety, blood pressure ,cholesterol, and also hydrocortisone I have an adrenaile deficiency
Tysm! I was born without one
Welcome!
The TSH is still relevant, especially if you are post-menopausal. Other receptors in your body (such as your bones) interact with TSH.
With such a “low” tsh what should I be watching for? Or what implications may it have?
Great information to know. I was scheduled for surgery on Friday 5/6 and hit cancel . My blood t3 t4 not to good. This surgery get me nervous every time I think about it. Do you have a video of the dangerous of things that can go wrong during surgery.
I just had my thyroid and parathyroid glands removed and was nervous before surgery but I was pleasantly surprised. I had a very sore throat the first day and couldn’t talk but day two much better and day four feeling pretty good. My doctor was excellent
@@derekandfarley how r u doing now?
Could you please tell something about T2?
Can you share the study showing that meds for T4 and T3 are needed to restore the thyroid function after a thyroidectomy?
I am having real sleeping problem and kind of anxiety breading sometimes in the morning. I have no thyroid and no parothroid glands
Hi there..can i ask you somthing?how your condition after your thyrodectomy?do you feel healthier or otherwise?
@ some anxiety, hair loss, low Vit D
My thyroid was removed in 1999 for graves disease. I have never seen a doctor since except for a broken elbow and have had no medication. Im 39.
Lucky! For some of us the T4 medication works bc our bodies are able to absorb and convert the T4 properly. Everyone is different every body is different
Well, wth is the T3 medication you keep saying we don't get. What is it???
Thank you so much doctor for the good information, i well have my thyroid removed this weds.
Research nascent iodine + selenium
@@MMpinkflowers ok I will...thank you!

I know I didn't want to deal with either do the surgery they try to push the radioactive iodine but I didn't want to do that either I finally did the surgery because it was an emergency.. and they knocked into my vocal cords and I'm a singer.. yes I'm a hundred and seventy pounds at 5 foot 2 and 1/2...and always in pain.. now they are saying that I have osteoarthritis in my spine and im only 42...
Are there any positive outcomes from taking it out? I almost don’t want to take it after watching this.
No not really. Your body can't turn things on and off the same. It's like running a car that requires 93 gas with 87. I'm 5 yrs out.
Neither I. I don't want my thyroid to be takin out. My doctor discussed about having thyroid remove and radiation. When I heard the consequences nah I refused the idea of having a surgery.
@@kabaganglapalapavlog2798 . What are the consequences?
How would you suggest someone like us takes your supplements? Thanks
If you are referring to which ones to take, here are the ones that work if you don't have a thyroid:
Thyroid Daily Essentials 1 packet each day
2 capsules of T3 Conversion Booster daily (important if you take T4 only medication!)
2 Capsules of Thyroid Adrenal Reset Complex daily
1-2 Capsules of Leptin Resistance RX daily
You can find them all here: www.restartmed.com/shop/
Yes, supplements still help whether you are on T4 or T3 only or some combination of the two.
